75 Years Chapter 8
Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games
Following on from the news about the possibility of "Different Arenas for different Games", approval was granted for construction of a Hunger Games Arena. It is expected the Arena will be ready for the 11th Hunger Games. Of course it still hasn't solved the problem of declining viewership of the Games.
The Tributes:
District 1: Europhia Whitmore (17), Fabrian Rees-Mogg (18)
District 2: Acantha Coller (18), Theseus Warman (16)
District 3: Matisha Young (15), Beta Zuckerburg (12)
District 4: Tethys Claxton (16), Coast Porter (16)

District 6: Darla Markham (17), Samson Wilson (16)
District 7: Lesley Stafford (13), Bede Griffin (14)
District 8: Cherry Gore (14), Twine Saliba (12)

District 10: Becky Cox (16), Chuck Ramsey (13)
District 11: Passioflora Wallis (13), Clovis Klass (14)
District 12: Maeve Hill (15), Piers Wheatley (16)
Like the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Hunger Games, the Eighth Hunger Games was marred by deaths of several Tributes before the Games start. Three days before the start of the Games, a tile on the roof of the old theatre the Tributes was staying in fell off, killing a boy from District 1
24th: Fabrian Rees-Mogg, District 1. Eighth Hunger Games. Killed by tile. Pre-Games
A day later, the roof collapsed, killing three more Tributes
23rd: Chuck Ramsey, District 10. Eighth Hunger Games. Killed by roof. Pre-Games
22nd: Europhia Whitmore, District 1. Eighth Hunger Games. Killed by roof. Pre-Games
21st: Acantha Coller, District 2. Eighth Hunger Games. Killed by roof. Pre-Games
The Games:
With twenty Tributes left alive, the Games began as scheduled. Theseus Warman, the last "stronger" Tribute still alive, ran to the Weapons Pile. Picking up an axe, he began cleaving apart Tributes that came close to the Weapons. His first victim was a boy from District 7, who was cleanly cleaved through the neck.
20th: Bede Griffin, District 7. Eighth Hunger Games. Killed by Theseus
A twelve-year-old Tribute from District 8 attempted to grab a knife, however, Theseus was quick to spot him. Grabbing the knife, Theseus sliced the boy's chest open, leaving the Tribute to bleed to death on the grassy field.
19th: Twine Saliba, District 8. Eighth Hunger Games. Killed by Theseus.
While Theseus was finishing Twine, the District 3 Tributes, Matisha Young and Beta Zuckerburg, managed to grab a sword each from the Weapons Pile. Meanwhile, Theseus had spotted a pair of fleeing District 12 Tributes, and with his axe, decapitated the girl, and gutted the boy
18th: Maeve Hill, District 12. Eighth Hunger Games. Killed by Theseus
17th: Piers Wheatley, District 12. Eighth Hunger Games. Killed by Theseus
With most of the Tributes scattered, Theseus returned to the Weapons pile. As he rested, he didn't notice Beta and Matisha was approaching him. Theseus felt a sword enter his abdomen, and woke up to see Beta standing over him. Grabbing his axe, Theseus shoved the boy to the ground. With Beta in danger, Matisha crept up behind Theseus and with a swift movement, lopped his head from his body
16th: Theseus Warman, District 2. Eighth Hunger Games. Killed by Matisha.
With the Weapons Pile now a free for all, Beta and Matisha fled. Overnight, three Tributes perished due to the dust from the collapsed roof.
15th: Lesley Stafford, District 7. Eighth Hunger Games. Suffocation
14th: Apis Weald, District 9. Eighth Hunger Games. Suffocation
13th: Becky Cox, District 10. Eighth Hunger Games. Suffocation
A hour later, two more Tributes passed away
12th: Darla Markham, District 6. Eighth Hunger Games. Starvation
11th: Ley McHale, District 5. Eighth Hunger Games. Starvation
As dawn was approaching, Beta passed away next to his District Partner
10th: Beta Zuckerburg, District 3. Eighth Hunger Games. Injuries
At noon on Day 2, a pair of District 4 Tributes died of starvation
9th: Tethys Claxton, District 4. Eighth Hunger Games. Starvation
8th: Coast Porter, District 4. Eighth Hunger Games. Starvation
By late afternoon, Matisha, knowing her chances of survival was slim, and on the brink of death from starvation, picked up a knife and drove it into her chest.
7th: Matisha Young, District 3. Eighth Hunger Games. Suicide
As the night of Day 2 approached, the temperatures in the Arena started to plummet. The surviving Tributes didn't want to risk leaving where they were. Samson Wilson, the District 6 male, decided to move into the warmer sections of the Arena for the night. Following his example, the District 11 Tributes got up and started to walk. However, as they did so, the girl collapsed, her body weakened by years of starvation and illness.
6th: Passioflora Wallis, District 11. Eighth Hunger Games. Starvation
As Clovis attempted to make it to somewhere warmer, he fell and broke his neck, dying from the impact.
5th: Clovis Klass, District 11. Eighth Hunger Games. Fall
Shivering, the District 8 girl huddled into a ball and closed her eyes. She would never wake up, dying of the cold as she slept
4th: Cherry Gore, District 8. Eighth Hunger Games. Exposure.
As the temperatures continued to plunge, the boy from District 5 tried to keep himself warm, however, his thin body didn't have enough heat or energy to keep him alive.
3rd: Zeus Thornford, District 5. Eighth Hunger Games. Starvation and Exposure.
As the Arena was freezing, Quinoa Murdoch felt her cold getting worse. Curling up, she soon fell asleep as her illness ended her life as the sun started to rise.
2nd: Quinoa Murdoch, District 9. Eighth Hunger Games. Pneumonia.
Waking up, Samson saw that there was no sounds. "Hello! Is anyone still alive?" he yelled as the silence overwhelmed him. Shocked, the realisation he had won hit him, and he fell on his knees, sobbing.
1st: Samson Wilson, District 6. Eighth Hunger Games. VICTOR.
Samson couldn't stop sobbing as he left the Arena.
Aftermath:
Samson's victory placed District 6 into an Exclusive Club. Known to be a very emotional Victor, Samson lived the remainder of his days working in the Foundary before dying in his sleep after the 67th Hunger Games. Over the years, when asked about his crying at the end of the 8th Hunger Games, he would respond that "He was mourning his brother". Samson's younger siblings, Daffyd and Emilia, would end up as Tributes in the 12th and 14th Hunger Games respectively. Samson married, but none of his children was Reaped into the Hunger Games, however, nine of his relatives would be Reaped into The Hunger Games. In total, thirteen of Samson Wilson's family would end up in the Hunger Games. Samson followed in the footsteps of fellow "Legacy Victor" Chive Carmichael, as both won the Hunger Games several years after an older sibling was Reaped. Ley McHale, Cherry Gore and Quinoa Murdoch were related to a Tribute that participated in the same Hunger Games as said older siblings. Like the Games before it, all copies of the 8th Hunger Games was wiped after the 10th Hunger Games. Below is a note by Dr. Gaul on the 8th Hunger Games:
Viewerships look quite bad, and the Arena under construction is behind schedule. But it is clear we can't keep using the City Arena all the time.
Trivia:
The Eighth Hunger Games was the third-shortest Hunger Games, lasting sixty four hours.
The Eighth Hunger Games was also the Games with the then fewest viewerships in history, only overtaken by the following Games.
In the original first version of The Vonheli Chronicles, Samson was Jessica's Mentor. Following the release of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and the reveal that Mentoring started with the Tenth Hunger Games, I opted for Imogen to be Jessica's Mentor.
