Hello to everyone reading this. I appreciate anyone who has read this as it took me and my good friend who helped me make this a while to get this done, but it was worth every second. With that, I hope you enjoy the story and look forward to the rest of the story. Enjoy! :D
Quick note: please check out the original game this fanfic is based off of "JPDE: Sonata of Fire" when you finish reading this. The people working on that game are seriously cool and this story wouldn't be happening without them.
JPDE: Concerto of Solaris
Chapter 1: A shift in tone
Prologue:
"Victory is in the simpler things that you've forgotten. Things that require a smaller, more honest soul." The words that the headmaster speaks is true, some things require a smaller, and more honest soul. For his plans, said soul might be what he needs to prevail against his enemy if they don't die because of the truths he holds back from the people he's supposed to trust, but for me it is exactly what I need for my goal. And unfortunately for this world, I have found the simplest souls there could be…
Before their fates were changed, Ryan and David were not that different from any other mortal. They went to school, played video games, hung out together with their other friends, and bonded over stories they liked. One of these stories being the world of JPDE. Indeed like any ordinary mortal, but for other individuals they were the perfect candidates for other endeavors…
Davids Perspective:
David was walking down the same street he had been from school hundreds of times before and as always was listening to music from his ear buds as he walked. His mind would always trail off during these walks, thinking of some new character, OC, or some story he had been obsessing over for weeks on end. David finally arrived home for the hundredth time. As David sets his things down, he goes to get something to eat from the kitchen. After eating his quick dinner he goes to his computer and loads up google docs. David stared at the blank page for several minutes.
"Why can't I think of anything?! I always have ideas when I'm walking home, but when I have the doc opened right in front of me I can't think of anything!"
David had been frustrated with this for several days on end. Every day at school he would get several story ideas, but every time he opened a doc to write these stories his mind would go blank. After several more minutes of staring at the screen, he calmly sighs and turns off the computer.
"Maybe tomorrow."
He turns to his computer and gets out of his seat, turning to one of his consoles, the PlayStation 3. He had recently acquired a PlayStation 3 a year back, finding it from someone who left it out in front of their house with a note which said "free" so of course he took it home like any other person would. However, he only recently got the controls and cables needed to play, and when the time came to pick out a game, only one stood out in his mind: Sonic The Hedgehog (2006). Yes it has been said by the Sonic community many times over that Sonic The Hedgehog (2006), otherwise known as Sonic 06, is the worst game in the franchise, this didn't matter to David at all as it featured his favorite character Silver The Hedgehog. David had already completed Sonic 06, but always liked to replay through Silver's campaign because it was his favorite out of the three. He boots up the PS3 and proceeds to play through Silver's story. After playing for a few hours he blinked and then found himself in the sky and proceeded to scream as he plummeted.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
As he fell, altitude sickness kicked in and he fell unconscious…
Ozpin was doing his usual business in his office when suddenly something, or rather someone, crashed through his ceiling. After the dust settled he was able to see what crashed through the ceiling. At the same time, Glynda Goodwitch walked in and saw the mess caused by the crash.
"Professor Ozpin are you alright?!" Glynda asked.
"Yes, Glynda, I'm alright." Ozpin said as he moved towards the unconscious person on the floor. Glynda walked over and stood next to him, observing the cause of the broken ceiling.
"It seems to me we have another child who came crashing down from the sky." Ozpin remarked.
"How is it possible two could show up in quick succession like this?" Glynda asked.
"I'm not sure, but either way we must find out who he is and what his intentions are when he wakes up. Maybe he is connected to Mr. Di Kabegis."
After a few hours David regained consciousness.
"Ugh…my head…what happened?" David said in a tired tone. He sat up and saw he was in some sort of infirmary. He turned to his right and saw a blonde woman writing something on a digital tablet of some kind.
"…Hello? Who are you?" David asked in a confused tone.
The woman would look up at David before speaking again.
"Good, you're awake. Tell me, what is your name?" She asked.
David takes a few seconds before responding.
"…my name is David."
The woman raises an eyebrow upon hearing his name.
"Could you repeat that for me?" She asked.
"David…David Genesis." He responded.
The woman nodded.
"Interesting." She said as she wrote something down on the tablet. "Very interesting."
As she was writing David asked her a question.
"Excuse me, could you tell me where I am?"
"You're in Beacon Academy's infirmary." The woman answered.
"Oh…okay…how did I get here exactly?" David asked as he used all his willpower to not have a panic attack.
"That is what we'd like to know." She responded.
"What do you mean?" David asked.
"You crashed through the ceiling of Professor Ozpin's office in the clock tower. What we would like to know is how you were able to do that, or at least how you got up there to begin with." The woman said.
"Well, I'm not really sure. I don't really remember how I got up there." David responded.
The woman wrote something down on the tablet again. David tries to get up from the medical bed, but the woman quickly stops him.
"I wouldn't suggest getting up yet. You sustained a lot of fractures in your crash. Your aura is currently healing you right now, but I would suggest waiting a bit before trying to walk again. Anyways, someone would like to see you now."
A tall man with grey hair and glasses walked in.
"Well it's good to see you're alright, Mr…"
"Genesis. David Genesis." David told him.
Ozpin nodded.
"I am Professor Ozpin, headmaster of this Academy, and this is Glynda Goodwitch, the headmistress of the academy."
Glynda pushed her glasses up before writing something on her tablet.
"Now then, Mr. Genesis…do you have any memory of what happened before you crashed into my office?" Ozpin asked.
"If I'm being honest with you, I have no idea how I got here. One minute I was playing a game in my house and the next I'm falling to presumably death before I blacked out." David answered.
Both Glynda and Ozpin look at each other, thinking about what David just told them. Ozpin turned back to David again.
"This is going to be an odd question, but do you know anything about Beacon or Remnant as a whole?"
David took a moment to think about his question, not exactly sure how to respond. To David it was strange for Ozpin to ask something like that, so he decided to keep the truth hidden.
"…I have no idea who you are or what this place is." David answered.
Ozpin and Glynda take a moment to talk amongst themselves, making sure David was unable to hear them. After a few minutes of discussion Ozpin and Glynda turn back to David.
"After speaking with the headmistress, I am going to give you an offer I didn't think I'd be making three times." Ozpin said. "Mr. Genesis, since you have no knowledge of this world or any information on how things work here, I think it would be best if you were to attend my school."
David was stunned as soon as he heard the offer.
"Really?" David asked, trying to hide his shock.
"Really." Ozpin confirmed. "The choice is yours."
Out of all the people he could have chosen, Professor Ozpin himself offered him the opportunity to attend Beacon Academy. David takes a few minutes to think about this choice. He finally made up his mind and responded.
"Alright…I'll do it."
Ozpin smiles.
"Excellent. It will take me a few hours to get your living situation in order, and I don't think you're much of a fighter from what I've gathered?"
David nods in agreement.
"Then I will have to get someone to teach you. Glynda, would you be willing to teach him?"
Glynda nodded.
"Yes, but he will need someone to spar with."
"Well I already have one in mind, but let's focus on the now."
He turned back to David.
"Mr. Genesis, after you recover I will have someone escort you to your dorm."
David nodded.
"Alright. Thank you professor."
Ozpin nodded.
"Well I must be off now. I hope to see you again soon Mr. genesis. Rest up now."
He walked away and out of the infirmary, Glynda following close behind him. David is left alone with his thoughts. Right now his mind is very mixed on the whole situation, but he's mostly filled with questions. Why is he here? How did he get here? Why was it Remnant he got thrown into? Was Monty Oum secretly an interdimensional traveler? As he was thinking of these things his eyes grew heavy. He laid his head on the pillow. Before he fell asleep, two questions hung prominently in his mind. The first question being, what did Ozpin mean when he said giving the offer to join Beacon three times? As far as David knew, the only other one he gave out was to Ruby Rose. The second question being…was anyone else from his world here?
Ryan's perspective:
Ryan was on a walk in the afternoon when all of a sudden everything warped around him. Where there were once the buildings and sidewalk of his neighborhood were now trees and nature surrounding him. He was taken off guard and backed up into a tree which he also moved away from in quick succession.
"W-What the hell happened?! Where am I?!"
Ryan thought to himself as he tried to regain his bearings. It was a warm, sunny day wherever he was and he could hear the birds tweeting up in the trees. He was still completely taken off guard and it almost felt like all the air was knocked out of him. How could he have been in his neighborhood and then suddenly just appeared in a forest? He put his hand over his chest as he slowed his breath down.
"Breathe in…breathe out…breathe in…breathe out…"
Ryan told himself over and over until he was in a calm enough state to hopefully start making some rational decisions. He looked in all directions and saw there was no clear path to take and it didn't appear anyone else was near him. With no other option, he began to walk around the forest, calling out for anyone that might hear him. "Hello?! Is anyone there?!"
Ryan was still slightly calm when he started his walk, but after about half an hour he started getting desperate. He didn't know how he got here and he just wanted to know what happened. He continued walking until he found an old and abandoned structure. He leaned back against the wall of the structure, trying to collect his thoughts when he looked at his arms and noticed that he had some black scales along them as well as some pointy spikes along the underside of his forearms.
"What the-?"
Ryan tried taking them off, but it hurt to try. Whatever these scales and spikes were, they were a part of him now which didn't help to make him any calmer.
"What is happening?!"
Ryan said frustrated. He looked down at the rest of his body and saw his clothes were also different, now wearing a casual red shirt, blue jeans, and boots. Unfortunately for him, he didn't know that all the negativity he was feeling was attracting some unwanted attention. The sound of steps against the forest ground could be heard coming towards Ryan. He turned in the direction of the sound and in the shadows cast by the trees he could see red glowing eyes looking at him. He immediately felt a sense of fear and dread which only increased as the figure came out into the sunlight. There a few feet away stood a Grimm, a Beowolf to be more specific. Now Ryan's already apparent fear and stress skyrocketed. A Grimm?! A real Grimm from RWBY?! What was happening?! Ryan started to move away slowly in another direction, but then another Beowolf started to walk towards him from the forest as well. He looked to another direction where more Beowolves were moving in on him. He backed up against the old structure, his heart racing with panic and fear. As the Beowolves moved in for the kill Ryan wanted nothing more, but to run away and hide. He squeezed his eyes shut before running forward in a last ditch effort to try and get away. To his surprise he found himself running back into the woods as he opened his eyes again. He also felt himself running on four legs to his surprise which was weird since it looked like he was still standing at the same height as he would be standing up straight. He slowly came to a stop in front of a pond. Upon looking at his reflection, he saw a Night Fury (from the How To Train Your Dragon franchise) staring back at him. He backed up from the pond in shock. He looked back at the rest of the body and saw the slick, black body of the Night Fury. He felt the front of his face and felt the round and wide shape of a Night Fury's head.
"Could this day get any weirder?!"
Ryan said, although to anyone else it would have just sounded like dragon roars. He laid down with a huff, trying to rest and get his mind off this whole situation. He tried to turn back into a human or whatever he was which was then he realized he didn't know how. Maybe he was still afraid of the unknown of this forest, after all it had Grimm roaming around so why should he be calm? His thoughts were interrupted by a rumble in his stomach. Now this situation has gotten worse. He was in the woods, there was Grimm, he was a freaking dragon, and now he was hungry with no sign of civilization in sight. He got up and looked around, wondering what to do. He looked at his wings and tried moving them. It felt really weird to move his new appendages, but it also felt slightly natural. He tried flapping them, but it only served to move him around slightly on the ground. He huffed and folded his wings against his body. He looked up at a tree and tried climbing it which was actually much easier than he thought it would be thanks to his claws. He eventually made his way to the top of the tree and there didn't appear to be any civilization for miles around which only broke Ryan's spirits further. He carefully made his way back down to the ground and started wondering what he would do for food. That's when he noticed the pond had fish. Of course in the How To Train Your Dragon movies and in a lot of other media dragons loved to eat fish, but Ryan had never really been a fish food lover. Unfortunately he didn't really have many options for food other than the fish so with a sigh and some reluctance he tried to catch a fish to eat. He tried swiping at the fish with his claws which gave him no success. So then he had to do what he had hoped he didn't have to and started to try and fish with his mouth. He still had no success with fishing, but on the bright side he got a nice drink of water. After a few more tries he gave up out of frustration and just laid down on his side. Well if he wasn't going to eat he might as well think and try to piece together his situation. He was on a walk in his neighborhood before in the blink of an eye appearing in a forest which had Grimm in it. There are two possible explanations, one more crazy and one more grounded. The more grounded explanation is that he's just lost his mind, but the crazier idea is something he really doesn't want to be the case: he was possibly sent into another universe. Yeah it's definitely crazy, especially for Ryan, but what other explanation could there be for what was happening to him right now other than he's dreaming or he lost it? His stomach growled once again and took him out of his thoughts. He got up again and moved his head above the pond. He knew he had to think strategically if he was going to eat, so instead of just snapping his jaws open and closed under the water he instead opened his jaws and waited. After a minute or two he noticed a fish swimming through his jaws and he quickly shut his mouth, trapping the fish in his mouth. The thrashing of the fish almost made him throw up so he quickly started chewing the fish up. The taste wasn't the best, but his stomach definitely felt a bit better. Over the next hour Ryan continued to fish with varying amounts of success, but by the time he decided to stop his hunger had been quenched. He let out a sigh of relief, feeling a little bit of stress being lifted from his shoulders. He looked around his surroundings again, seeing nothing but a seemingly endless forest as far as his eyes could see. He didn't really have anywhere else to go, and this pond still had plenty of fish for him to eat so he decided it would be best for him to stay around here until he figured something out. So he just laid down on his side and started to ponder on all the same questions he had going through his mind.
