Lucy walks in from the right. She shakes her fist at you, "Not a WORD about the Halloween debacle."
Stupidity is in the Air
"Sigh..." Lucy was glum, she was looking at a picture of one of her previous crushes, Rocky Spokes, while she struggled to write a poem. She had written quite a bit, but it all felt too melancholic, even for her. Lucy decided enough was enough, and she made her way to Grim's spot in the attic where he was sharpening his scythe on a grindstone. "Grim, I need your help."
Grim didn't look up from the grindstone, "Make it quick, it's Valentine's Day, and that means I'll visit a lot of lonely mortals."
"I need you to remove my heart." Lucy told him matter-of-factly.
Grim stopped his sharpening, and turned towards her, "...why? You ready to leave this mortal realm already?"
Lucy looked down at her feet, "Well... I had a crush on a boy named Rocky but his mother took him in the divorce. It's been over a year now since he left and it's making my heart a bit heavy, especially today."
Grim rubbed his jawbone, "I see...tell ya what, if it's makin' ya feel too heavy-hearted, how about I just mute yer emotions fer the day."
Lucy looked up at Grim, "You'd do that for me?"
Grim shrugged, "Why not? I've been meaning to get some practice into this! Mama-sey mama-sa mama-hoo-sa!"
A spark of green light flashed.
Lucy was still for a moment. "I feel...nothing. huh. Sadness and longing gone. Great work Grim."
"Jus' doin me job. Speaking of which..." Grim gave his scythe a few swings, "Ah-hahahahaa!" he laughed as he vanished in a puff of smoke.
"He seems excited. Good for him." Lucy deadpanned.
After which, the now emotionless girl headed back down to the second floor where she spotted Lincoln with his back turned to her.
"Hey Lincoln." Greeted Lucy in her usual monotone voice.
Lincoln turned around with a blank expression on his face, "Hey Lucy." he greeted in an equally monotone voice.
The two stood in silence for a moment, "...are you not scared?" Lucy asked.
Lincoln shrugged, "Huh...I'm not. Just hungry. Let's go eat breakfast with the rest of our family."
Lucy nodded, "Ok."
The two calmly walked downstairs and into the dining room where the rest of their family was calmly sitting with neutral faces aside from Lynn Sr, who brought in a bunch of red and pink colored pancakes.
"Oh. It's Valentine's Day." Rita announced in monotone.
Lynn Sr nodded, "Yes." he said, also in momotone.
All the Loud children nodded, "Yes." They all said in monotone.
They all began to eat the Valentines-themed breakfast.
"Is it tasty?" asked Lynn Sr.
"Yes." everyone answered in monotone.
Lucy stopped eating for a moment, "...something is very wrong." She remarked.
Lisa stopped eating too, "It appears our entire family unit has lost their emotions."
Lucy paused for a moment, "...really? That is...unexpected."
Lincoln stopped eating too, "Something seemed off. How did this happen?"
Leni swallowed before speaking, "Was it something we ate?"
Lucy shook her head, "No. I asked Grim to remove my heart and he removed my emotions instead."
Lola pointed at her with her fork, "Did you by chance ask him to remove all of ours as well?" she asked.
Lucy shook her head again, "No. This was not part of the plan."
"Lucy, why did you want to remove your emotions?" asked Rita.
"Why did you want to remove your heart? You need that." asked Lynn Sr.
"I didn't want to feel sad anymore." Lucy answered.
"What were you sad about this time?" Lynn asked.
"My crush Rocky being away."
"You could've just told me, I would've asked Rusty for his brother's email or phone number." Lincoln told her.
"I was too embarrassed to talk about it...huh, the embarrassment is gone."
"...I don't even want to make fun of you for being sad over that. Huh." Lynn remarked.
The table was quiet for a moment until Luan spoke up, "So, are you going to get Grim to fix this?" she asked.
Lucy pulled out her phone "I can try." she opened up her contacts and phoned Grim.
Grim answered the call, his skull appeared on Lucy's phone with a frown, "This better be important Lucy, I've got a long way to go to meet my record."
"Grim, your spell affected the entire family. Can you please come back now and fix this?"
Grim narrowed his sockets, "Are you mad? If I reversed the spell now, who knows what kind of irreversible side effects it could cause? You all need to let it run its course and it'll go away naturally!"
"What side effects? Have you done this before?"
"Well...once. I used it to make one of the furies calm down for a moment but when I tried reversing it, she was ten times as angry. And heightened emotions can lead to being another name on my list today."
"I see. Thank you Grim. Have a good day." Lucy ended the call.
"I didn't know Grim had a cell phone." Leni remarked.
"He doesn't, his scythe just has a phone on it." Lucy cleared up.
"So are we stuck with no emotions for the day?" Lana asked.
"Looks like it. Sorry everybody."
"Dudes, should we stay home today? Wouldn't this count as us all not feeling right?" Luna asked.
"I feel ok." Lana told her.
"I'm sure we'll be fine, and it'll be all better by tomorrow." Lincoln added.
There was a collective agreement around the table.
What could go wrong?
...
Leni presented new designs to her home economics teacher, "And this is a shirt. These are a pair of pants. This is a dress."
Her teacher was a bit surprised, "Huh...very...plain. Are you going on a conservative path?"
Leni shook her head, "I'm not on any path. I'm designing clothes."
...
Sam looked over at Luna during the Moon Goats practice, "Are...are you doing alright Luna?"
Luna nodded, "Yes."
Mazzy pointed at her, "Dude, you haven't done anything aside from tuning all the instruments."
"And they sound great!" Sully added.
Sam and Mazzy glared at Sully.
"What? I never had my piano set this good before!"
...
Benny was giving Luan a concerned look "Something is different about you, Luan! You haven't tried to prank me all day or even try to tell a joke!"
Luan blinked, "Oh yeah, I haven't. Um, why did the chicken cross the road?"
"To get to the other side? To run away from the cook? To prove he's no chicken?"
"Because the river was harder to cross."
"...what?"
...
Lynn doesn't get a segment.
...
Lucy cleared her throat, "This is a poem, I feel nothing, Death is a boon for me, this is the end."
Her teacher rolled her eyes, "Very good Lucy, you may sit down."
...
Lana and Lola were ominously quiet and far more well-behaved than usual. Their teacher kept pinching herself, "This has to be a dream."
...
Lisa's teacher, Mrs. Shrinivas, looked a bit on edge, "Lisa, you haven't answered a question, acted smug, or broken out into East Coast Rap all day! Is something wrong?"
Lisa nodded, "Yes, the Grim Reaper took my family's emotions away, including mine."
"...you kids keep coming up with weird games."
...
Lily sat still in the middle of the Daycare Academy, not reacting to anything around her. One of the aides was flipping through a psychiatrist book, "I don't get it, Dr. Shuttleworth! She doesn't seem sad or upset or anything!"
"Lily feels nothing." Lily told her.
Dr. Shuttleworth rubbed her chin, "This is most definitely a bout of depression! Dress up as Fenton Fox and see if it helps!"
"I hate that costume..."
...
Zach looked over a Valentine's card Rusty had, "Huh, you got one from Ms. Ferrell?"
Rusty smiled, "I know, right? I was surprised too!"
Stella sulked a bit, "I only got a few, and that's including from you guys."
Clyde patted her back, "That...might more be due to you still being new. You only joined the school district near the end of last year."
Lincoln had a massive pile of Valentine's cards, chocolate, and even a plate of homemade cookies. He didn't smile.
"You uh, not happy with all the attention ya got this year, Linc?" Liam asked him.
Lincoln shrugged, "I'm not able to. Grim did some magic thing and I have no emotions today."
"Oh, like that old show with the fair-"
Zach covered Liam's mouth, "We don't TALK about that show!"
Lincoln then recalled something, "Oh hey Rusty, Lucy wants to talk to your brother, can you send me his email?"
Rusty shrugged, "Sure, but she could've just looked him up on Mybook."
"I didn't know you had a brother, Rusty." Stella remarked.
"Our mom took him in the divorce. I was old enough to decide who I wanted to live with."
Stella blinked a few times, "Oh...uh, wow. That's a lot of new information...it explains a lot."
...
Soon enough, the day was coming to a close and the Louds were all sitting in the living room waiting for the spell to wear off.
Grim appeared in the house in a puff of purple smoke, "Ah...another Valentine's Day come and gone. How did ya'll fare today?"
Lucy shrugged, "Not too bad I guess. Let's never do this again."
The rest of the family spoke in unison saying "Never."
Grim recoiled a little, "Huh, that is creepy. Well, it should wear off in three, two..."
Like a light switch, the Louds collectively felt rushes of emotion coming back. There was a mix of relief, joy, laughter, but it all boiled down to them all being mad.
"Wait a minute! Grim put a spell on us all!"
Grim eased his way to the stairs with a nervous grin, "Now, now! I was only doin' what Lucy-"
"GET HIM!"
The family chased after Grim who flung himself into the attic and sealed the hatch. As the family relentlessly banged on yhe hatch, Grim looked towards you, the audience, "There's just no appreciation anymore."
Was never a big fan of Valentine's Day myself. Or the month of February in general. Hope you all enjoy yours.
