Many years after the Mockingjay Rebellion, Panem Museum's director Mercedes Vonheli receives a collection of "Master tapes" of the Hunger Games, and decided to write a history book about each Games as well as the culture and society of Panem. This story was published on AO3, and is rated T for violence and because it's The Hunger Games

24. The Jungle Arena

75 Years Chapter 24

Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games

With the First Quarter Quell approaching, interest in the Games was at an all-time high in the Capitol. Speculation was everywhere: The Tributes of the 24th Hunger Games, the Arena and the drama. The Tributes Reaped were a mix: the pretty District 1 Tributes, the powerful District 2 Tributes and the scared kids from the outer Districts.

The Tributes:

District 1: Esme Bianchi (18), Silver Heyer (18)

District 2: Boudicca Jensen (18), Slate Lavene (17)

District 3: Huyen Le Duc (17), Edward Rowe (15)

District 4: Ariel Cox (17), Seaweed Woodson (18)

District 5: Janelle Curie (14), Atom Maywell (13)

District 6: Felicia Levykin (15), Steelson Glenn (15)

District 7: Ebony Rostron (16), Jack West (16)

District 8: Indigo Havilland (17), Thread Crouch (15)

District 9: Quiona Stokes (16), Jamie Upton (14)

District 10: Eve Barraclough (12), Cutlet Ribery (12)

District 11: Berry 'O'Hara (13), Seville Demain (16)

The Arena:

The Arena for the 24th Hunger Games was a Jungle Arena, inspired by the jungles of Papua New Guinea. Amongst the dangers was Cassowary Mutts

The Games:

With the twenty-four Tributes in the Jungle Arena, the Mentors in the Control Room watched as the Tributes stood on the pedestals as the gong went off. The "Career Pack", this year consisting of Esme Bianchi of District 1, her District Partner Silver Heyer, the District 2 pair, Boudicca Jensen and Slate Lavene and District 4's Seaweed Woodson, made the Cornucopia their base, and quickly gathered their weapons. It wasn't long before first blood was drawn, when Esme, armed with throwing knives, speared through the back of a fleeing girl from District 10.

24th: Eve Barraclough, District 10. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Esme. Bloodbath

Janelle Curie, the District 5 girl, spotted a rucksack on the ground. As she ran towards the rucksack Slate Lavene spotted her. Drawing out his sword, he sneaked towards the girl and within seconds cleaved the girl apart

23rd: Janelle Curie, District 5. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Slate. Bloodbath

Meanwhile, Seaweed had found several spears, and hurled one at a small boy

22nd: Thread Crouch, District 8. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Seaweed. Bloodbath

Silver and Boudicca had ambushed a small girl from District 11. The District 1 male slashed the tendons in her ankles as Boudicca slashed the girl's throat

21st: Berry 'O'Hara, District 11. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Silver and Boudicca. Bloodbath

While Silver and Boudicca were torturing Berry, Seaweed had fired two more spears into two Tributes: a boy from District 9 and a boy from District 12

20th: Jamie Upton, District 9. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Seaweed. Bloodbath.

19th: Ashton Parry, District 12. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Seaweed. Bloodbath

Nearby, Felicia and Steelson were ambushed by Esme and Silver. Both District 1 Tributes inserted their weapons in the ambushed girl, killing her

18th: Felicia Levykin, District 6. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Esme and Silver. Bloodbath

Angry at the death of his District Partner, Steelson wrestled Silver to the ground. Armed with a small dagger he picked up earlier in the Bloodbath, he plunged it into Silver's chest and torso, stabbing the boy several times until he expired

17th: Silver Heyer, District 1. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Steelson. Bloodbath

The final kill of the Bloodbath was made by Boudicca, who threw a knife into the back of a fleeing boy from District 11

16th: Seville Demain, District 11. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Boudicca. Bloodbath.

As the Bloodbath ended the viewers in the Capitol stared in shock. One of the favourites, Silver, was already dead, killed by the boy from District 6. Day 2 passed by without any deaths, but on Day 3, as Slate was sleeping, having spent Night 2 on guard duty, Atom Maywell sneaked into the Alliance's Camp. Making sure that none of the other stronger Tributes were nearby he stabbed Slate in the throat, leaving the stronger boy to bleed out.

15th: Slate Lavene, District 2. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Atom. Day 3

Slate's death was the only death on Day 3. Days 4 and 5 passed by without deaths, but on Day 6, Seaweed found a bow and arrows. Testing it out, he fired three arrows, each one hitting a Tribute hiding amongst the bushes.

14th: Atom Maywell, District 5. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Seaweed. Day 6.

Later that day, Esme and Boudicca told Seaweed and Ariel that they will be going on a hunt for the District 6 boy. On Day 7 the Outlier Tributes called a truce until the Final Four. Day 7 passed by with barely any deaths but on Day 8, Esme and Boudicca encountered Steelson wandering the thick jungle. Esme barrelled into the boy and pinned him onto the ground as Boudicca swung her axe at him. Within seconds, the axe embedded itself into Steelson's side, the blood draining the leaves red. A second swing of the axe in the same side was enough to kill the boy.

13th: Steelson Glenn, District 6. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Esme and Boudicca. Day 8.

Leaving Steelson's decimated corpse, the two girls left. Later that day, Ariel picked up a bow and some arrows and shot the projectiles at a shape among the trees. Annabelle gasped as the arrow pierced her skull.

12th: Annabelle Mordaunt, District 12. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Ariel. Day 8.

The final kill of Day 8 was made by Seaweed, who shot a girl from District 7 in the heart as she attempted to escape the vines.

11th: Ebony Rostron, District 7. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Seaweed. Day 8

Day 9 dawned with two girls being killed by Esme as she hunted for Tributes.

10th: Indigo Havilland, District 8. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Esme. Day 9

9th: Quiona Stokes, District 9. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Esme. Day 9.

The Final Eight had been decided: Esme Bianchi from District 1, Boudicca Jensen from District 2, Huyen Le Duc from District 3, Edward Rowe from District 3, Ariel Cox from District 4, Seaweed Woodson from District 4, Jack West from District 7 and Cutlet Ribery from District 10. The rest of Day 9 and Day 10 went by without deaths, but on Day 11, Cutlet found himself ambushed by Esme, Boudicca, Ariel and Seaweed. A few minutes of slashing and shooting later, and Cutlet lay dead on the ground.

8th: Cutlet Ribery, District 10. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Esme, Boudicca, Ariel and Seaweed. Day 11

As the four Tributes withdrew, Esme and Boudicca drew their weapons. In the violence that followed, Boudicca would be covered in blood as the other three Tributes lay dead.

7th: Esme Bianchi, District 1. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Boudicca. Day 11

6th: Ariel Cox, District 4. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Boudicca. Day 11

5th: Seaweed Woodson, District 4. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Boudicca. Day 11

The rest of Day 11 passed by without incident as Boudicca started to search for the remaining Tributes. On the night of Day 11, Jack had managed to locate Huyen and Edward's camp and spent the night with them. However, as Day 12 dawned Boudicca managed to find the trio of Tributes, but as she was about to finish the trio off, a flock of Cassowary Mutts emerged. Boudicca, Huyen and Edward leapt up, and as Jack woke up, he found himself surrounded by the Mutts, who subsequently tore him to pieces.

4th: Jack West, District 7. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Cassowary Mutts. Day 12

As the remaining three Tributes fled Boudicca drew out a knife and stabbed Edward in the back as he crumpled the Cassowary Mutts slit his throat open. At this point Huyen ran a different direction to Boudicca and the Mutts, hoping to reach the Cornucopia.

3rd: Edward Rowe, District 3. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Boudicca and Cassowary Mutts. Day 12

Feeling her strength start to drain, Boudicca started to feel tiredness as the Cassowary Mutts, no longer on Huyen's trail, emerged from the trees. One of the birds lifted a talon up and within seconds, Boudicca fell, a gash in her throat.

2nd: Boudicca Jensen, District 2. 24th Hunger Games. Killed by Cassowary Mutts. Day 12

Laying on top of the Cornucopia, Huyen panted as she heard trumpets. Drained of her energy, she closed her eyes as she was lifted into the Hovercraft.

1st: Huyen Le Duc, District 3. 24th Hunger Games. VICTOR

Aftermath:

Huyen's victory would be celebrated in District 3. Known for her intelligence, Huyen would mark District 3's "Golden Era", a period where a District 3 Tribute reached the Last Eight. By the end of the decade, Huyen would bring home two Tributes, one of which she would Co-Mentor. Huyen would die during the Victors' Purge, committing suicide by Nightlock. Her Arena would be destroyed following The Mockingjay Revolution and is today marked by a memorial.

District has more than one Victor

Believe it or not, the Tributes were first named on a guide I did on DeviantART in the segment on Interview Outfits. That was when I came up with the boy from District 6's name.
