Many years after the Mockingjay Rebellion, Panem Museum's director Mercedes Vonheli receives a collection of "Master tapes" of the Hunger Games, and decided to write a history book about each Games as well as the culture and society of Panem. This story was published on AO3, and is rated T for violence and because it's The Hunger Games

26. The Cave Arena

75 Years Chapter 26

Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games

The First Quarter Quell ended up becoming a success, with the Capitol's bookmakers having their most successful year to date thanks to Eric. To ensure that the 26th Hunger Games was successful, the Arena would be a cave system. The 26th Hunger Games was notable as no eighteen-year-olds were Reaped or Volunteered.

The Games:

The Tributes, dubbed "Troglodytes" by Lucky Flickerman, who explained to the audience that it means cave-dweller in Greek, entered the large, spacious cavern. As the gong rang the Tributes rang towards the Cornucopia. The fight at the Cornucopia would see the dusty ground covered in the blood of eight Tributes. The first kill was made by Opal, who armed with a pickaxe, impaled a small girl picking up a large bag.

24th: Ciela Curie, District 5. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Opal. Bloodbath.

John, armed with a large broadsword, decapitated a small boy from District 3.

23rd: Perun Tym, District 3. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by John. Bloodbath.

Valkyrie, John's District Partner, threw throwing knives at a skinny girl.

22nd: Feltette Radcliffe, District 8. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Valkyrie. Bloodbath.

Cinnabar had killed a strong farmhand.

21st: Brandon Ramsdale, District 10. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Cinnabar. Bloodbath.

Another small Tribute fell to Valkyrie's knives.

20th: Lavender Schwartz, District 9. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Valkyrie. Bloodbath.

Opal had pierced a Tribute's throat with a pickaxe.

19th: Cabinet Easton, District 7. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Opal. Bloodbath.

Cinnabar had hacked down a pair of Tributes, blood and the dust coating their dark hair, grey eyes glazed.

18th: Gravel Hale, District 12. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Cinnabar. Bloodbath.

17th: Snowdrop Crook, District 12. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Cinnabar. Bloodbath.

The last kill of the Bloodbath would be made by John, who slit open a girl's neck.

16th: Artemis Lovell, District 6. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by John. Bloodbath.

With the Tributes now scattered, the Career Tributes, Opal, Cinnabar, Valkyrie and John, put on some night vision goggles, the only pairs that was in the bags inside the Cornucopia, an area the outlier Tributes tried to avoid. With the cave being pitch black, the outliers had no way of being able to see what's ahead. On Day 3 a tall boy fell off the ledge, a loud crunch echoed around the Arena as his neck was snapped.

15th: Johnny Withers, District 8. 26th Hunger Games. Broken neck. Day 3.

An hour later, Cinnabar rolled a boulder down a slope. The boulder crushed three Tributes, a pair from the same District and a girl who barely escaped the Bloodbath.

14th: Straw Gbangola, District 11. 26th Hunger Games. Crushed by boulder. Day 3

13th: Tabbock Nielson, District 11. 26th Hunger Games. Crushed by boulder. Day 3

12th: Orage Lubetkin, District 3. 26th Hunger Games. Crushed by boulder. Day 3.

The final death of Day 3 was that of another girl, who tripped and struck her head on a sharp rock.

11th: Jacqui Moore, District 7. 26th Hunger Games. Hit head on rock. Day 3.

The morning of Day 4 dawned with another fall death as the girl from District 4 lost her footing.

10th: Lake Dyrdyra, District 4. 26th Hunger Games. Broken neck. Day 4

Later that day, a boy starved to death.

9th: Tiger Osment, District 9. 26th Hunger Games. Starvation. Day 4.

The Final Eight had been decided: Opal Windsor and Cinnabar Trump of District 1, Valkyrie McGraw and John Shields of District 2, Jordan Calafiori of District 4, Aaron McFall of District 5, Oregon Weigman of District 6 and Elionwy Smithills of District 10.

Day 6 opened with the Districts 1 and 2 torturing a boy from District 4.

8th: Jordan Calafiori, District 4. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Opal, Cinnabar, Valkyrie and John. Day 6

After Jordan expired, Valkyrie found a sleeping girl. Drawing out her knife, she approached the girl. Elionwy grabbed her knife, and the two girls fought, the battle ending in a mutual kill.

7th: Valkyrie McGraw, District 2. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Elionwy. Day 6

6th: Elionwy Smithills, District 10. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Valkyrie. Day 6.

As the Cannons fired, Aaron noted that three Cannons had fired instead; the boy from District 6 had just been shoved off a ledge, dying the exact moment Elionwy died.

5th: Oregon Weigman, District 6. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Cinnabar. Day 6.

Spotting a large spear hanging from the roof, Aaron made his way to the rock. Meanwhile, a fight had broken out between John of District 2 and the District 1 Tributes, a fight that saw Cinnabar eliminating his competition.

4th: Opal Windsor, District 1. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by John. Day 6

3rd: John Shields, District 2. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Cinnabar. Day 6.

As Cinnabar cleaned the blood off his blade, he began to hunt for his final opponent. As he headed towards Aaron's direction, he saw a rock hurtle towards him, impaling him.

2nd: Cinnabar Trump, District 1. 26th Hunger Games. Killed by Aaron. Day 6.

Putting the pickaxe in his belt, Aaron felt a sense of relief as the trumpets rang out.

1st: Aaron McFall, District 5. 26th Hunger Games. VICTOR

Aftermath:

Aaron would become District 5's third Victor and would strike up a friendship with Helios Molyneux. Known for being quite sly, Aaron would Mentor several Tributes, some of which would be placed in the Final Four. One Tribute he mentored would be a girl named Finch O'Callaghan, who subsequently became his very last Tribute. Aaron himself would die in the Victors' Purge, executed by firing squad.
