Chapter 9: Clark's visit to Gotham

About an hour later Batman and Robin flew back to Gotham to the roof of the GCPD where two old friends reunited after two and a half years.

"I'll be Goddamned. A part of me knew you were alive." Gordon said.

"It's good to see you too, Jim. It's been too long." Batman said.

"After what you told me before that a hero could be anyone, even a man who puts his coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know the world hasn't ended…I never stopped wearing this badge." Gordon said.

"But?" Batman asked.

"Retirement has crossed my thoughts. There's still some loose ends to tie up." Gordon said.

"Then maybe I can help you tie them up." Batman said.

Gordon chuckled with Robin smiling behind Batman.

But the moment was interrupted by Waller.

"Well this is heartwarming. I would be moved if I wasn't a workaholic." Waller said.

"The hell you want?" Robin asked.

"I'm here on official government business. Plus if it weren't for me Batman would not be here." Waller said.

"Are you expecting us to thank you?" Gordon asked.

"Don't push me Gordon." Waller said.

"Everyone calm down. We're all on the same side." Batman said.

Waller smirks as John and Gordon look at Bruce with surprised expressions.

"Gordon Robin, would you mind giving Batman and us a minute?" Waller asked.

"Actually I do mind! This is my precinct! I'm the Commissioner! That son of a bitch Joker escaped from Arkham Asylum!" Gordon said angrily.

"I think you're forgetting my authority Gordon!" Waller said.

"Enough both of you! We're in a bigger matter than to fight amongst ourselves." Batman said.

Gordon and Robin didn't understand why Batman was defending Waller. Something was amiss…

"She's got leverage on you, doesn't he?" Robin asked Batman.

"She knows who we are Robin." Batman said Robin.

Now that drew worry to Gordon and Robin which they turned to Waller then to him.

"Well, so do I. And I still stand by it never matters who you are. Because you're still Batman. The savior of this city. And Waller? I swear to God if you take that away from Gotham again you will regret it!" Gordon explained.

Robin and Gordon left, leaving Waller alone with Batman.

"So you chased the Joker all the way to Gotham City. We see…him?" Waller asked.

"I did. But I'm curious that he'd save civilians from burning." Batman said.

"Don't let him fool you. Metropolis is still on him. And so is Lucius Fox." Waller said.

The Dark Knight felt uncomfortable with Waller bringing up Lucius…

"However, just recently my sources confirmed Lex Luthor was granted clearance to inspect the alien ship and General Zod's ship. I was hoping to secure both the body and the ship but with Luthor's hands I can't pry them from him." Doyle explained.

"What does Luthor want with the ship and Zod's corpse?" Batman asked.

"That's what I'll need you to look into. Not just as Batman but as Bruce Wayne as well. Now that word has gotten out that Bruce Wayne returning Luthor will want to meet you. That's the perfect advantage. Agent Avesta will accompany you on your mission." Waller explained.

Batman pauses in thought with him and Waller looking out to the city…

Finally we get Clark investigating the Batman after seeing him last night…

But Perry White still lashes at him to drop the Bat story and prefers him to cover the football game between Gotham and Metropolis.

So like in the actual still Clark is still going to Gotham to learn more about Batman.

And unlike in the movie a lot of people told him how he saved the city three times.

Of course he goes to the GCPD.

"Hi. I'm Clark Kent of the Daily Planet. I'm here to see Commissioner James Gordon." Clark said.

"Sorry Mr. Kent but the Commissioner is busy." Cop said.

"I won't take too much of his time. I just need to ask him a few questions about the Bat Vigilante." Clark said.

"The Bat? He's scum! Gordon thinks he's some kind of hero but why did he kill Harvey Dent? I don't care what Gordon says Dent would never harm anyone he's brought more light in Gotham in years. And now all this talk that Gordon says he committed murder and Batman internationally took the blame. Bane wanted to destroy the hope Dent built but it didn't work with this cover Gordon built for the Bat." Cop explained.

With this Cop still believing the lie that Batman killed Harvey Dent Clark's curiosity grew by the second…

"Tell me about Harvey Dent." Clark said to the Cop…
