Phoebe Halliwell, youngest of three sisters, sat at the table in her family home, finger's touching a spirit board she and her sister, Piper, were playing with. "What was your question again?" She called out to Piper, who was in the kitchen.

"Will Prue have sex with someone besides herself this year?"

"That's disgusting. Please say yes." She addressed her comment to the spirits and the pointer moved to the letter 'A' by itself. "Piper." It then moves to the 'T'. "Piper, get in here!"

"What?" Piper responded, returning to the table with a bowl of popcorn as their oldest sister Prue entered the room.

"What did you guys do now?" She asked, still annoyed over an earlier argument with Phoebe.

"Me? I didn't do anything." Piper answered, setting the bowl on the table.

"The pointer on the spirit board. It moved on its own." Phoebe told them, both girls stared at her. "I'm serious. It spelled 'A' 'T'." She insisted.

"Well, did you push it?" Piper asked.

"No." Phoebe shook her head insistently.

"You used to always push the pointer." Prue accused her.

"My fingers were barely touching it." Phoebe protested "Look." She put her fingers on the pointer, but nothing happened. Prue and Piper turned away and the pointer moved to the bottom of the board, then back to the letter T.

"Ah, it moved again!" Prue turned back to look.

"It's still on the letter 'T'." Prue pointed out, thinking Phoebe was just playing games with her.

"I swear it moved." Prue just shook her head and left the room. The pointer moved again, this time Piper saw it too. "There." Phoebe stood up. "Look. You saw that right?"

"I think so, yeah."

"I told you I wasn't touching it." The pointer moved again.

"Prue, can you come in here for a sec?" Piper called, alarmed as the pointer moved by itself. Prue came back at her sister's call.

"Now what?" As Phoebe wrote the letters down on an envelope.

"I think it's trying to tell us something."' She held up the envelope. "Attic." Just as there was a loud clap of thunder and the power went out. Piper grabbed a sweater and hurried towards the door with Prue following her.

"Don't you think you're overreacting? We're perfectly safe here." Prue assured her.

"Don't say that. In horror movies, the person who says that is always the next to die."

"It is pouring rain. There's a psycho on the lose. Jeremy's not even home." Referring to an earlier news report that Piper's boyfriend, Jeremy, a reporter, had made regarding young women being killed in San Francisco, where they lived.

"Well I'll-I'll-I'll wait in the cab until he gets home."

"That'll be cheap." Prue responded sarcastically.

"Prue, I saw that pointer move."

"No, look, what you saw was Phoebe's fingers pushing the pointer. There's nothing in the attic, she's playing a joke on us."

"We don't know that. We've been back in this house for months and we've never been able to get that attic door open." She crossed the foyer and picked up the phone. "Great, now the phone doesn't work." She complained. "I can't call a cab."

"Look, come with me to the basement. I need to check the circuit breaker and you can hold the flashlight."

"You just don't want to be alone."

"Do you?"

"Point." Piper followed her to the basement as upstairs Phoebe tried the handle on the attic door and found it locked, she started back down the stairs only to hear a creak and turned back to see the attic door swinging open.

"That's not at all creepy." She muttered and walked inside. A light shone on a trunk and she walked over to it. She opened it and saw a large, worn book which she picked up and blew the dust off before opening it. "The Book of Shadows." She read and turned the page and continued reading. "Hear now the words of the witches, the secrets we hid in the night, the oldest of Gods are invoked here, the great work of Magic is sought. In this night and in this hour, I call upon the ancient power, bring your powers to we sisters three, we Warrens, we want the power, give us the power."

"What are you doing?" Prue asked, having come to check on what she was up to, Phoebe looked up.

"Uh ... reading an incantation. It was in this Book of Shadows, I found it in that trunk."

"How did you get in here?" Piper asked.

"The door opened." Phoebe explained.

"Wait a minute, an incantation? What kind of incantation?" Piper asked warily.

"It says something about there being three essentials of Magic. Uh, timing, feeling and phases of the moon. If we were ever gonna do this, now - midnight on a full moon - is the most powerful time."

"This? Do what?" Piper moved into the attic.

"Receive our powers apparently."

"What powers? Wait, our powers? You included me in this?" Piper exclaimed, upset.

"No, she included all of us." Prue told her, reading from the book. "Bring your powers to we sisters three. We Hallliwells. It's a book of witchcraft."

"Let me see that." Piper grabbed the book, reading it for herself.

As the three sisters tried to figure out the strange book, a couple hundred miles away, in the city of Sunnydale, home of the Hellmouth, an unknown Warren descendant tossed and turned with nightmares about vampires and zombies, blissfully unaware that his life was about to change yet again
