Entry 1: Prologue

June 17, 1951

The world was in a spot of grief. Of recovery and of discovery. The powers of europe decimated from war and the New World unchallenged. A new type of war was about to begin but not one of proxy or tension. I was at the time stationed in berlin during the occupation. I was to meet with German physicists. Far from home. Berlin itself im sure was beautiful before the war but all that laid was reconstruction and remnants of destruction. Humanity was still healing and we were far from finished. The german team arrived in an allied facility built back in 49. It's purpose was publicly to research the effects of radiation. Privately was more of a research lab for the advancement of nuclear technology. The meeting was us getting in contact with the german teams in berlin. Soon we would be working together but for now a simple laying of ground works was all that was needed. My assistant Lara was with me during the trip. She held no soft spot for the Germans so begrudgingly made small talk with the team.

"The countryside i promise is more of an eye catcher than the city" Lara looked at me rolling her eyes. She as usual was not up for small talk. We'd been here for 2 months by this point and were eager to finish and take the first boat home.

"It was most definitely less busy than here" I responded. Professor Carmen Burkhart stood up and gathered his coat.

"The city once held more meaning and purpose than it does now. Now I look and all I see..." He drifted off looking outside the window.

"Was a failed experiment that killed many innocents" Lara stood up.

"And the United States and her allies will make sure something like this NEVER happens again".Carmen looks over at lara gathering her belongings.

"No country is immune to her radicalized citizens. I hope for the sake of humanity your country heeds the mistakes of mine" Lara glared at him.

"Germany did much more than make mistakes professor" She walked out before I could stand up.

"Apologies...some of her family passed in poland. Her brother in france" He nodded and walked over to me.

"And my wife and daughter in the camps...not every german was a nazi Doctor Deen" His team and I walked out.

Lara stood outside the building waiting for me. Her eyes blood shot red of tiredness and guilt. She deserved to rest. To grieve and to come to peace. To eventually move on and start anew.

"You heading home lara?" She shook her head.

"Headed to poland soon. Im to meet polish teams that plan to defect from the Soviets. Seems the allies want all hands on deck to combat the rise of the red curtain."

An allied truck rolled to a stop in front of us. I grabbed her luggage and helped her inside. She looked at me somberly I think.

"It was a pleasure to work with you Samuel if you are ever in europe I would like to see you again." She smiled at me. A smile that had seen war...that had seen death. Still she smiled.

"I'll be back in a few months. When the real work begins" She nodded.

"When the real work begins...À bientôt"

I closed the door. The truck pulled off. I was suppose to be back before winter began. Her and I were suppose to start a new in berlin...together. We shared laughs, restless nights, stressful days...but all with no war. Soon I thought I'd see her again and we would help usher a new wave of science in Berlin...and a new life together.

I never saw her again after that day.

And still I wonder. Why? Why her. God has yet to answer my questions. Throughout the day and nights. No matter the destination. Through rain or snow through cyclones or blizzards. Through Dreams and reality WHY CANT GOD ANSWER ME WHY HER!

The week after reports came in. Around 217 million people vanished. Seemingly out of nowhere from moscow to warsaw. Most of poland...of ukraine most of the Soviet Union, all of the eastern block countries...Just gone. Days following the announcement over 3 thousand bodies were found in the baltic sea. The ones recovered matched the those who had gone missing. The wars that came after...Part of me is glad she didn't live to see it.

The event was called The Great Displacement. The single most devastating day in Human History. Only 6 years after the most devastating War in human history. Because of my position I was transferred to a department by the allies. One of which many higher ups were even unaware of where I was heading. One of which even to this day im unaware of its origin. However since then unexplainable events have occurred throughout the world which have or threaten to take lives. If there is a way to find her again even if its to discover her I have no problem with dedicating my life to the foundation.
