He looked at me and smiled bigger. I didn't like that. I went for my seraph blade. But he was stronger than me. I then saw it. It wasn't the guy I wasn't talking to last time. It was Johnathan.

"Johnathan!" I said, looking at him.

He then knows he was caught. He changed into the guy I know as my brother. Of course, he would be the one that sent guys to watch me.

"Hello, sister. It's been a while." He said.

I pushed away from him to get out of his grasp. He lets me go. But he has been cornered. I couldn't get around him without fighting him. There must be a better way without him getting away.

Maia will send it for backup if I don't give word or come back soon. So, I will just distract him the best I can.

"It has been a while. I thought you might have died by Valentine's hand." I told him.

"He isn't powerful enough to take me down. No one is." He said.

"I won't say that. Everyone can die. They are always something or someone more powerful than you." I told him.

Jace's POV*

I was waiting for Clary to get back. I was getting worried. But I know she is strong and everything. She can handle anything that is thrown at her.

I heard a knock on my door. I went to open it and saw Alec standing there. He had this worried look on his face. Now, I was scared for the worse.

"What is it, Alec?" I asked.

"It's Clary. She is in danger." He said.

He didn't have to tell me anymore. I grabbed my jacket and seraph blade. I was already heading out. Alec was right beside me. We meet everyone in the central area.

"What happened?" I asked.

"I just got a message from Maia. Johnathon has shown up, and he is with Clary." Simon told us.

"Do we know where they are?" Maryse asked.

"Probably still near or at the Hunter's Moon. Clary won't go far. She isn't stupid. She bought us time." Simon said.

"Then these go. She won't be able to distract him for so long. She needs our help." I said.

We all headed out. I hope Clary is right. She is strong and smart. But we don't know what Jonathan is capable of.

We got a block from the Hunter's Moon. We didn't want him to know we were there yet. I saw Jordan standing not that far away, an ally by the bar.

Clary's POV*

"I know that sister. Everyone has their weakness. The one thing that makes them valuable." He told me.

"What is yours? Because if you are like Valentine, then it's power. If we take that away. You are nothing. I know our mother is not it." I told him.

I was trying to push his buttons. I just want to get an opening to get out of this. He still has me trapped. I don't like it.

"One day, you will know. Or maybe you already know." He told me.

"Let's stop going around the brush. What do you want? You sent people to watch me and follow me." I told him.

"Yes. I want to make sure you are safe and protected. Everything I do is for you." He told me.

"How is this all for me? You killed and hurt people. Also, all the questions. I thought you knew everything." I said.

"I do, and I don't. For the people that I hurt. They were going to hurt you and me." He told me.

I looked at him strangely. He is trying to protect me. For people who he thinks are going to hurt me. I am not surprised. But why all the questions. What is he trying to figure out?

"Then why did you have that one guy question him?" I asked.

"I need to know what he has done to you. Maybe they both can take him down. Also, have that family we always wanted one day." He told me.

"The only way we will ever be a family is if you turn yourself in. For Valentine, we will get in the right of way. So, what is your choice?" I told him.

"Looks like we will have to finish this talk another time. We have a company that was not welcomed." He told me.

I saw Izzy, Jace, Simon, Alec, Jordan, and a few downworlders coming away. He was surrounded. I then looked at him, smiling. I grabbed my seraph blade and hit him in the shoulder. He turned around and shoved me into boxes on the other side.

Jonathan turned and looked at me. He had a sorrowful look on his face. He then dashed. It was just like a flash of lightning, and he was gone, not before taking down a few downworlders. Jace then ran over to me.

"Are you okay?" He asked me.

"I am fine. Make sure the others are okay." I said.

Simon came over to me. He put on an iratze rune. He gave me his hand and helped me up. I went to check on the downworlders that needed help. I was happy that no one was killed. Just hurt. We all just headed back to the Intuition. My head was everywhere. I now have so many questions and not all the answers.

"Let's head back home." Alec suggested.

I gave the pack a small smile to let them know I was okay. They all left. They were going to tell Luke what happened. So, I will be getting a call later. Jace put an arm around me for protection. We then headed back to the Institute.

We got back to the Institute. Of course, Maryse and Lydia. We know we were in trouble. Maryse gave us a worried look.

"My office now." Lydia said.

I really didn't know what she had to say. The Clave probably got back to them. I probably won't like or agree with what they had to say. But we still did as she said. She couldn't hold it in when we got inside the office.

"You guys went against the rules and went on a mission without the approval of the Clave. Do you understand the damage you have done?" Lydia was saying.

I really couldn't put up with her anymore. She doesn't get or know. She is just a force for the Clave. I then stepped forward and said,

"Lydia, just stop right there. You and the Clave act like you know what you guys are doing. But truthfully, you don't. We didn't cause no today. I think we found out more than you guys would ever have. There was no rule-breaking. Because I was meeting a person. The Clave can't control who I meet."

"Really? No rule-breaking. Then why were downworlders helping Shadowhunter?" She asked.

"You mean my family. Because those downworlders you bring up are Luke's porch. People who were there for me. That's why they were there if you really needed to know. Before you even ask. Izzy, Simon, Jace, and Alec were doing the same thing. So, if you don't mind. I think we are done here." I said.

I then headed to the door. I had nothing else to say to Lydia. I was done hearing what she had to say. But before I did leave, I looked at Lydia and said,

"The guy I met was my brother. Looks like he can become anyone whenever he wants. So, I would be careful. I just wanted to let you know he isn't after what my father wants. So, looks like the Clave has two different threats."

I then headed back to my room. I was ready to head back to school. That's the sad part. I rather be closer to the Clave. Then be here. I then heard a knock at my door. I went over and waited.

"It's just us." Simon said.

I opened the door to see Simon, Izzy, Alec, and Jace. I stepped aside for them to come in. They came in and shut the door behind us. I know that they were here to tell me what happened afterward.

"You do know how amazing you are. Lydia didn't know what to say." Izzy told me.

"I'm dating a badass," Jace commented.

"So, do I want to know what happened afterward?" I asked them.

"Well, our mother wants to talk to you in private. Lydia just stood there. We were asked to leave after that. We came here after that." Alec told me.

What does Maryse want to talk to me privately about? I have two different thoughts. But it has to be about either my father or brother. Or what happened between Lydia and me. But I am going to talk about heading back to school. I think it's time.

"I guess I should have seen this coming. You wanted to talk, Maryse?" I asked as I entered the office.

"Yes, Clary. Do not worry; you are not in trouble. What you said to Lydia was all true, and I stand behind you a hundred percent." She told me.

I was definitely caught off guard by that. I really thought she was going to yell at me or something. But looks like I am wrong. I shut the door and went to sit down. I then asked,

"What is it that you needed to talk to me about?"

"I wanted to first see how you are. I know it is not easy for you. Mostly, with your brother and father being near. But I want you to know that you are not alone. Everyone here is behind you. Know it was not ever easy in the past. But here, no one will look at you differently. You are one of us." She told me.

She does not know how much that means to me. For as long as I learned about everything, everyone in the Shadowhunter world judged me based on who my father was. But now, knowing I do not have to be alone and in this alone really makes me feel amazing.

"Truthfully, Maryse, you don't know how much that means to me. I felt like I had been so alone for so long until now. Jace, Izzy, and Alec made it clear I am not. Now, knowing you have my back means a lot." I told her.

"You don't have to be alone anymore. So, how is everything going with them coming after you?" She asked me.

"Well, not good at all. I do not know if anyone told you, but Izzy's and mine room was broken into and destroyed like they were looking for something. We still do not know who it was. But I have a feeling that someone is helping my father or brother. Because I know what they were looking for." I told her.

"Yes. I was told by Alec. He did tell me that you figured out what they were looking for. But he could not tell me because he couldn't lose your trust. So, I was wondering if you could trust me with that?" She asked.

"I'm sorry Maryse. But the fewer people that know what I have, the better. It's nothing against you. But I would rather keep this between only Simon, Jace, Izzy, Alec, my mother, and I. But it is safe and everything." I told her.

"I can understand. If I can put it together, I can understand why. So, don't worry. But if you think someone is helping them from the school. Do you think they have insiders?" She said.

"Yes. Or my brother changed his looks and is there. It is what I'm fearing." I told her truthfully.

"You don't have to fear anymore. We won't let anything happen to you. Even if he is there or someone is helping them." She told me.

"Thanks, Maryse. I really needed to hear most of this. Is there anything else you want to know?" I asked.

"No. But my door is always open for you no matter where you are." She told me.

"I will. I promise. Thank you." I said.

I then headed out. I think I really needed this moment with her. I now know I wasn't ever alone. But now I don't feel like I am anymore.
