Chapter 21: Demure & Benkei vs Akuma & Gingka

Halcyus Lance: Thanks for the feedback. The reason why I don't use quotations for the dialogue in this particular story is simple actually. When I first started writing fanfics, I was still figuring out the format and by the time I started using "" I felt it was too late to go back and edit all of the chapters. Furthermore I want to keep it like that so readers can see my flaws and see the progression in writing skills. I'm aware not everyone will like it and that's fine. I don't expect anyone to read or like my story. In the end I'm writing the story because I enjoy it and discover my limit as a writer.

Everyone watched from the glass window as Tsubasa laid unconscious on the hospital bed - connected to an IV drip and being monitored.

How could this happen? Madoka asked herself.

Can't believe it happened again! Gingka shouted.

The rampage, he was totally out of control, the arena was destroyed. Masamune expressed.

I should've stopped him! The dark power, why didn't he tell us?! Gingka ranted.

ENOUGH! I know we all have our questions but thanks to Tsubasa, we're still in this tournament. Hikaru shouted.

Sorry Hikaru but you know what we mean, we have known for a while now but we didn't help him, argh! It makes me so frustrated. Gingka rambles.

Are you OK, Hikaru? Madoka asks her friend.

I'm alright, I would've been a lot worse if it weren't for Akuma- Hikaru gets interrupted by Masamune.

Where is that guy anyway? Masamune asks, noticing just now he was nowhere to be seen.

Everyone in the room shakes their head.

He was with us when we came in here. Kenta says..

That bastard can't even look out for his own teammate! Masamune angrily rants.

HEY! If it weren't for him, we wouldn't be here! Hikaru defends.

Shut it Hikaru! We all know why you're REALLY defending him. Masamune says.

What's that supposed to mean?! Hikaru demands an answer.

BOTH OF YOU, STOP IT! Madoka interrupts their argument.

Our teammate is injured and you two are acting like children! Madoka screams.

Sorry, Madoka. Hikaru & Masamune apologizes.

I'll look for Akuma. Hikaru suggests but before anyone could say anything she had already left.

Meanwhile Akuma was visiting his sick older sister Kira who was connected to several IV drips and many monitors connected as the doctors were attentive to her situation.

She's going to get through it. I know she will, she's a fighter like you. Sandra says.

I just want her to smile again. Akuma simply responds.

And she will, once your team wins the championship, she will be back on her feet in no time! Sandra positively says.

If they didn't struggle all the time, we wouldn't be in this situation. Akuma rudely comments.

Come on Akuma, that's not right, this is your own teammates, you're talking about - you can't win a world championship alone. Do I have to remind you what your sister wishes for you? Hm? Sandra says.

Akuma sighs.

Are you at least making friends with your teammates? Sandra asks.

Akuma refuses to look his guardian in the eye.

I know things haven't been easy for you but if you keep shutting yourself in, making new friends won't be easy. Sandra comments.

I don't need friends. Akuma growls.

What about Hikaru? The way you two are getting along, when can we expect babies? Sandra teases.

Akuma blushes.

We're not friends. Akuma denies.

Don't push her away. Don't let your past haunt you. You won't hurt her. Sandra tells Akuma.

Shut it, I don't wanna hear it!... Akuma rushes out of the room while Sandra looks on.

He's still afraid, I see. Sandra says as she looks at Kira.

As Akuma exits the door, Hikaru happens to be nearby and calls out to him but he doesn't hear her. As Hikaru looks into the room, Akuma rushed out, Sandra sees the blue haired girl and waves her to come in.

It's finally nice to meet you Hikaru. Sandra says.

Do I know you? Hikaru asks.

Oh sorry, I'm Sandra, Akuma's guardian. I believe you heard Akuma and I talk over the phone. Sandra introduces herself.

Oh? You're the voice I heard him talk to in Arabia! Hikaru replies.

Hikaru then notices the sick woman on the other side of the glass window.

Oh gosh, is she alright? Hikaru asks.

Slowly but surely, she's a fighter. Sandra replies.

Who is she? Hikaru asks.

That's Kira, my partner in crime, my best friend and Akuma's older sister. Sandra reveals.

Hikaru's eyes open wide as she finds out.

I guess Akuma hasn't told you? Sandra asks.

No. Hikaru says with sadness in her tone.

Tell me, how much has Akuma said about himself? Sandra asks.

Not much, I know he likes the same music as I and he can play the piano otherwise I don't know much about him. Hikaru answers with sadness in her voice.

The piano you say? I see. Sandra simply says.

"You really like her, you bastard, hm." Sandra thinks to herself.

Um… if you don't mind me asking, what happened to her? Hikaru asks.

Let me ask you this? What is Akuma to you? Sandra asks back.

What?! Hikaru was taken back by the question.

I… I don't know. He's distant but he has helped me so much during the championships and I worry for him, when he disappeared without telling m- us, I was worried he might not come back. I… like him… more than a friend. Hikaru admitted.

He's lucky to have someone that loves him that much. Sandra chuckles.

L-L-Love?! I didn't say that! Hikaru blurts out as she couldn't hide her blush.

Don't worry, I won't say anything but it's written all over your face. It should be Akuma to tell you the story but since he's so stubborn to admit his true feelings, I guess he has to blame himself. Have he showed his scars? Sandra asks.

Hikaru nodded.

It's a long story. It all started 14 years ago. He was just 4 years old when he was kidnapped. An underground group of scientists was kidnapping kids from all over the world to create the ultimate blader. Kira wasn't home that day, luckily but she lost her parents as the thugs who kidnapped Akuma had no need for adults and cut them loose.

Kira came home to find her parents dead on the floor, blood spilled all over the floor. It was horrible. The local police couldn't find the culprits and quickly gave up on finding Akuma but Kira, she never lost hope.

She vowed to find him and enrolled in the police force but she had a feeling this was more just than the average thieves so she stuck up her nose where she shouldn't and attracted the attention of the FBI. She was so stubborn, she demanded to join even though she was far from qualified but my dad saw something in her and took her in, that's how we met.

We trained together, slept together, shared the highs and lows as she continued to search for the group that kidnapped Akuma. I never met someone so dedicated. One day she found a lead, she found a report that was similar to Akuma's and chased it.

From there, we learned the group known as "the Underground" wanted to create the ultimate blader through gruesome methods that nobody should ever attempt, especially kids. They believed in the idea of instilling practicing beyblade from a young age while being pushed to their limits would unlock the power they sought: the power to dominate the beyblade world.

FBI managed to track down their HQ and obviously Kira pushed to be on the mission and I couldn't let my best friend go without me. It was awful. The Underground had no mercy or limits they wouldn't go. Piles of dead kids, the awful smell of rotten blood, kids that weren't fed for weeks on end, you could see their bones sticking out. Kids were sleeping on the cold floor or infused with power enhancing drugs in liquid containers. As we tried to save them, most of them were brainwashed, all they did was launch their beys over and over again, trying to please their abusers - there were so many blisters on their hands, I didn't even know how they had the strength to continue.

But Akuma was nowhere to be found, I thought for sure he was long dead but Kira, she kept looking and deep underground, we found a heavily sealed door labeled "Project Bahamut." It was heavily locked as you needed several security codes to unlock it but that wasn't the worst of it.

When we pushed the guards for answers, even they were scared of what was behind the door. Nobody dared to utter what was behind the door. As we were searching for ways to open it, we occasionally heard loud rumbles and roars of what could only be described as a demon. After days of searching and interrogations, we managed to unlock it.

Kira was overjoyed when she saw her younger brother alive after so many years but we soon realized what "Project Bahamut" was. It was a huge cube sized room with only concrete walls and no windows. There were scratches on the walls and trails of blood leading out of the room, and a beyblade stadium in the middle.

Akuma, he was chained to the wall and I couldn't believe the scars on his body or how he survived but that wasn't the worst. I realized it too late. As Kira was releasing him from his chains, Akuma had only one thought on his mind: "Kill."

There was no hesitation, he tackled his sister, trying to tear her apart. It was like he didn't have a soul or a mind, he just attacked without any hesitation. Luckily we managed to subdue him before things went out of control.

Doctors had no explanations on how he survived all those years of torture if we could even call it that; however, they agreed on one thing - euthansia. They concluded his mind was long gone and he was a danger to society. He needed to be put down permanently.

Kira stubbornly refused, she believed he could be healed; after months of debate, it was agreed to put Akuma on a trial. It was simple: If Akuma showed any signs of humanity in one year, he was allowed to live, if not… well, death awaited him.

Kira believed in her brother til the very end despite everyone telling her to give up on him. She proved everyone wrong but being abused for so long, Akuma had no idea how to interact with other people so he did what he was raised up to be: "a killer machine." Especially if anyone tried beyblading with him. The destruction he's capable off, it still gives me the creeps til this day. If you think about the crazy persona he has now, there's an even darker one waiting.

In time, we discovered music kept his inner demons at bay but the kids his age didn't understand what he'd gone through - he was shunned by everyone around him, even adults. All he had was his sister. Before Sandra could continue, Hikaru interrupted.

What about you? Hikaru asked.

I… I was one of them. When Kira insisted Akuma should live, I tried to convince my best friend to give up on her own blood, how stupid was I?! Truth to be told, when I saw Akuma attack her that day, I didn't see him as a human but a monster. I was so afraid of losing my best friend, I convinced myself he deserved to die.

We didn't talk to each other til I found out she got struck by an incurable disease. The doctors said the treatment didn't exist but like his sister, Akuma refused to let her go. Luck struck and after pulling through some contacts, we managed to find a cure but the price was high.

I thought I lost her once and I wasn't going to do it again. Before the disease got really bad, she made me promise to take care of Akuma so I did.

I took him in to atone for my mistakes and offered to pay but he was persistent that he was the one to do it. Once the world championship and the prize money was revealed, he took the chance.

I… I… I don't know what to say. Hikaru teared up.

You don't have to, I'm just glad he found someone he cares about besides Kira. Sandra says.

Now, I believe you have someone to find, and if Akuma says he doesn't love you, he's lying because he's afraid he will do something he will regret for the rest of his life, OK? Sandra states.

Right, thanks for telling me Sandra. Hikaru let Akuma's guardian know how much that meant to her.

I should be thanking you, he means a lot to me and to her… take good care of him for me? Sandra asks.

I will. Hikaru promises and leaves to find Akuma.

Hi Akuma, wait up! Hikaru shouted as Akuma stopped in the middle of the hallway.

What is it? Akuma bluntly asked.

Can we talk for a moment? Hikaru requested.

Fine. Akuma begrudgingly replied.

So what is it?

I, uhhh… Hikaru struggled to find the right words.

"Come on Hikaru, tell him how you feel!" Hikaru encouraged herself.

Hikaru took a deep breath.

Akuma, for the last couple of months we traveled together and we had our differences at first but then as we got to know each other, I began to have this strange feeling and it was so confusing til I realized it, Akuma… I love you. Hikaru confessed.

But Akuma just closed his eyes and sighed.

Hikaru, we shouldn't. Akuma simply responded and began walking away.

WAIT! If this is about your past, you don't have to be afraid. Sandra told me what happened. Hikaru blurted out.

What did you say? Akuma growled.

She told me why you're like this. Akuma, you don't have to hide, we're here for you, I'm here-

Suddenly Hikaru was pushed against the wall while Akuma put his forearm against her throat.

Don't… act… like… you know what I've been through! Akuma growled as his eyes changed to a red tint for a split moment and his voice got monstrous.

Akuma… you're… hurting… me. Hikaru puffed as she tried to get free from his strong grip.

Akuma suddenly realized what he'd done and immediately let go.

You shouldn't date a monster like me. Find someone else. Akuma quickly said before he ran away.

Akuma… Hikaru sniffed.

The next day

It's high news for Beyblade fans! As the big battle has finally arrived. The BWCS A-Block round three, third match begins now! Blader DJ hypes up the crowd as the audience makes it clear who they support.

Go get him Gingka!

Go get the win buddy! Win it for Japan!

You rock Gingka!

Thousands of fans made it clear who they wanted to win today.

In the team room, everyone gathered around but Akuma was in his own thoughts, reflecting on Hikaru's confession.

"Do I deserve her?" Akuma thinks.

"Deserve her? GET RID OF HER!" Young Akuma argues.

"Can I be with someone and not hurt them?" Akuma continues his train of thoughts.

"Stop being such a baby! They're weak! If they can't handle a little scrap fight, they shouldn't live!" Young Akuma shouts into his ear.

"Unleash us! Together we shall remake the world to our vision!" Young Akuma laughs.

Akuma sees a vision of destroyed cities burning in flames and haunting screams as people lose their beloved ones while he, himself sits on the top of the throne, drowned in blood as everyone fears him.

Akuma shakes off the thought.

Akuma… Akuma… AKUMA! Madoka repeatedly shouts as Akuma snaps out of his trance.

Are you OK? Madoka asks her teammate.

I'm fine. Akuma coldly responds.

If you say so, it's time to gather around. Madoka says.

This is it guys, it's make it or break it. Gingka says.

You can do this Gingka! Kenta motivates.

We're all behind you so show them what the battle bladers champion can do! Madoka added.

Please, Gingka. Don't let it end here! Masamune begged.

This is going to be awesome! Yu shouted.

Here, Gingka, please take good care of Sagittario. Kenta asks as he hands over his partner.

I will, Kenta. Gingka promises.

Sorry, I couldn't repair Pegasus in time, I know how much he means to you. Madoka apologizes.

Don't sweat it, Madoka. All that matters is that we advance to the next round! Gingka accepts the mechanic's apology.

As Gingka and the rest of the team steps out to the stadium, they are applauded by the home crowd who seemed to be louder than usual.

I should really have brought some earplugs with me today! Masamune says.

Madoka notices Akuma holding his bandaged arm as he was still in pain.

Is your arm OK? Madoka asked.

It's fine. Akuma simply said.

Before Madoka could confront him, DJ spoke up.

With the score being tied with one win each, this is one! Give it up for our very own Gingka! DJ introduces the first battler and the crowd makes no secret who they support.

And here's his opponent, representing the hopes of Team Wildfang from Savannah, here comes the one and only Demure! DJ announces but stops as the whole audience becomes shocked as Demure and Benkei steps up to the plate together.

Huh?!

What gives? Kenta & Yu wonders what everyone in the arena thinks.

Woah, woah, woah, Bull! What are you doing out there? It's Demura and Gingka up next! DJ tries his best to recompose himself but remains shocked as the two Wildfang members ignore him.

We formally request a team battle. We challenge you to a team battle right here and now! What do you say, Gingka? Benkei requests a shocked Gingka.

Spin my lid! Wildfang requests a team battle. DJ repeats Benkei's words to make it extra clear for the crowd.

A team battle!? Masamune yelps.

What are they planning?! Madoka wonders.

Wait. That means… Hikaru immediately realized who Gingka's partner would be.

Akuma! Madoka and Masamune blurted out at the same time.

What are they thinking?! Kenta was baffled by the announcement.

Gingka & Akuma, together?

That's hell of a duo.

What is Wildfang thinking?! Several fans whispered among themselves.

What would they gain by fighting both Gingka & Akuma? Madoka tries to figure it out.

They're our best bladers, together they would be unstoppable! Masamune comments.

Yeah but both Pegasus and Bahamut are damaged… which means! Don't do it Gingka! It's a trap! Madoka shouted.

Huh?! Gingka responded.

Do you accept? What do you say? Benkei interrupts and demands an answer.

Gingka, don't accept it! We don't know enough about Demure, let alone how he and Benkei works together, it's too risky! Madoka warns.

Is the great Gingka chickening out? Nile mocks.

What?! Gingka was taken back by Nile's comment.

You heard me. First you chickening out against Kyouya, now this one, what a great champion. Nile sarcastically applauds.

Grgh! Fine! We accept! Gingka angrily accepts.

GINGKA! Madoka facepalms - disappointed by her leader's lack of awareness.

OH YEAH! It's on! Benkei eagerly responds.

Amazing! Gingka has accepted Bull's challenge. The third match will be Gingka and Akuma versus Demure & Bull! In a team battle y'all! DJ makes it official.

Dammit Gingka! Madoka sighs.

Are you OK with this Akuma? Masamune asks.

Let's just get it done. Akuma bluntly replied.

Akuma began walking towards the stadium and waved at Yu.

Oh right! Here, catch! Yu threw his Flame Libra and Akuma caught it with one hand.

This one is in the bag. Benkei confidently states.

You bet! Demure replies.

Let's get this party started! DJ says as everyone counts it down.

3,2,1! LET IT RIP!

Akuma made a rare mistake as the pain from his injured arm made him flinch resulting in an imperfect launch.

Now you're cooking with gas! Benkei warns with a smirk on his face as everyone has picked their opponent. Bull vs Sagitarrio & Scorpio vs Libra. On the first contact, Bull and Sagittario's clash resulted in an explosion as Sagittario got sent flying back.

What amazing power! Masamune awed at Bull's strength.

Benkei isn't holding anything back at all! Madoka comments, shocked over the display of power.

Go Sagittario! Gingka orders.

Sagittario attacked Bull head on but it was clear it wasn't going to work with a stamina type bey as Sagittario got pushed back easily.

Is that the best you got Gingka!? Benkei mocks.

That's right, due to unforeseen circumstances, today Gingka & Akuma are using Flame Sagittario & Flame Libra from Kenta and Yu. But so far, it's not looking good for our duo. DJ comments.

Look out Gingka! Masamune warns.

Remember Gingka, Sagittario is a stamina type, not an attack type! Madoka reminds her leader.

Flame Sagittario C145S Stamina Type. Its three wings on its spin track gives it extra protection against low attacks but when it attacks, the same three wings allows it to do extra damage. Making it a balanced stamina type. Demure gathered.

But as Demure was so focused on the ongoing battle between Bull & Libra, he failed to notice the incoming Libra.

SCORPIO!

Let's just get this over with it. Akuma states.

Libra hits Scorpio with several light attacks, pushing the Scorpio back.

OH NO! Hang on Scorpio! Demure screams.

Akuma! Now's your chance! Give him all you've got! Masamune instructs.

Flame Libra, 125ES with a freely rotating sharp performance tip and fusion wheel. The centrifugal force created by the spin track lets it maintain its stamina for an extremely long time - making it the ultimate stamina type. Demure notes.

OK then!

Scorpio flees from Libra.

If I face Libra head on, I'll waste my energy, I should be aiming for… THESE GUYS! Demure glances over to the other going battle.

Sagittario was just about to dodge Bull's attack when Scorpio intercepted its path.

Huh?! Gingka gasped.

Suddenly Scorpio and Bull were circling around Sagittario, giving it no room to escape.

Nice one Demure! Benkei applauds his teammate.

Follow my lead! NOW Demure replies.

Scorpio and Bull attacked at the same time, sandwiching Sagittario.

Get out of there! Gingka commanded but it was too late.

"Here comes the other one." Demure glances over to the incoming Libra.

Listen up! Let go… Now Bull! Demure instructs.

OK! Benkei responds.

As Libra was about to strike Scorpio, it dodged and hit Sagittario, almost sending it over the stadium.

Too close. What are you doing Akuma! Gingka shouts.

Akuma ignores his teammate as he makes sure Scorpio and Bull are in his sight.

Libra! Sonic Wave! Akuma summons one of its special moves.

You go left, I go right! Demure commands.

Got it! Benkei replies.

What's going on here? Masamune wonders.

He forced Akuma to pick out an opponent while the other one is free to attack! Madoka points out.

"Ha! This is Demure's power. Falling for our trap was much easier than I expected" Nile thinks.

Go Bull! Benkei orders.

Dark Bull was charging towards Libra while the stamina type was occupied with Scorpio. Akuma realized their plan and was about to switch targets.

Special Move! Flame Claw! Gingka summoned.

Gingka, get out of the way! Akuma warned but it was too late as Sagittario got caught in the explosion.

What are you guys doing?! Masamune shouts.

Get your stuff together guys! Remember, this is a team battle. Madoka reminds the duo.

What do you think you're doing! Gingka yelled.

Then why didn't you tell me, you were about to attack?. Akuma scoffed.

I thought you knew! Gingka argues.

Scorpio!

Bull! Demure and Benkei took advantage of their opponents bickering to attack but luck prevailed as both beys managed to stay on.

OH YEAH! Dark Bull's attacks are unstoppable and you guys are doomed! Benkei laughs.

What was expected to be an even team battle is now one sided as Wildfang clearly knows what they're doing! Is team Japan going home? DJ asks the crowd.

Get it together! Masamune shouts.

Stop arguing and work as a team, remember our training in Greece! Madoka reminds them.

You had to walk into their trap, Gingka. Akuma pointed out.

Trap? What trap? Gingka is clearly confused.

Did you forget what Madoka was trying to say? They wanted a team battle because they knew they wouldn't stand a chance against either of us, one on one but you had to let them cloud your judgment. Akuma rants.

"So.. you finally clued in huh? Demure and Bull probably wouldn't win against Gingka and Akuma on their own but Demure can read the opponent's moves before they happen with phenomenal kinetic vision. So if Demure acts as the control tower and Bull's power is pushed to its limits, what do you think will happen?" Nile thinks.

It's your own fault for carelessly agreeing to a team battle! Nile mocks.

Wha.. Gingka was at a loss for words.

"Tsk… Do I have to do everything on my own?" Akuma thinks.

"You see? You don't need them, not her, show them your true power." Young Akuma tricks Akuma.

Hehehe…. HAHAHAHA! Akuma wickedly laughs.

Akuma, NO! Hikaru shouted through the glass window.

Trap you say? Are you sure about that? HAHA! Akuma manically asks the opposition team.

Suddenly Libra charged towards Scorpio but thanks to Demure's vision, he barely dodged, but Dark Bull wasn't as lucky. The impact from Libra's attack as it made contact with the Bull caused a massive explosion.

"How is this possible? Libra is a stamina type, it shouldn't have this much attack power?!" Demure was baffled by the change in power.

What's going on Madoka?! Masamune asked the mechanic.

Madoka opened her laptop, quickly analyzing Libra's stats and the results were staggering.

Look! Madoka flashed her laptop in front of Masamune, showing the massive difference in stats before and after Akuma switched to his wicked persona; even someone as Masamune grasped the absurdity.

What's going on?! Masamune yelled.

I don't know but I don't think it's going to last. Madoka worryingly says.

What do you mean? Masamune asks.

This level of power is beyond a bey like Libra. If I think it is going to happen, this battle will not last long. Madoka states.

Madoka shows a simulation of Akuma'a influence on Libra; if dragging long enough, Libra would implode on itself due to the overwhelming overload of power.

Masamune's eyes widened at the data.

Akuma! Stop this! Masamune shouts but his words didn't reach the manically crazy ace.

Akuma laughs on as Libra was single handedly dominating the match.

Libra had triggered Sonic Buster, turning the majority of the stadium into one big sand trap. Even with Scorpio's ability to ride on sand. The odds of Wildfang looked dire as Libra looked too powerful.

Gingka could only watch on as he couldn't let the thoughts of falling into the trap.

"It was my fault?" Gingka thinks as memories of promising his friends and teammates he would bring them victory.

"Are we going to lose because of my decision?" Gingka could feel his heartbeat beat faster and faster.

GINGKA! Masamune shouts, snapping Gingka out of his trance.

Please! Don't let this be the end! I don't want my mistake to be the reason we lose the championship! Masamune begs his leader.

Masamune… he's right, we can't lose here. Dashan, Kyouya, Excalibur, my friends… Mei-Mei… I won't forgive myself if our journey ends here! Sagittario! Gingka shouts.

Sagittario used its special move, Flame Claw to attack Libra. While it barely made a dent, it was enough to get Akuma's attention and stop Libra's bullying.

Huh? What are you doing? Akuma glares at Gingka.

Don't you want to win? Akuma growls.

Yes but not like this Akuma. We gotta work like a team! Gingka orders.

Pft! Now you wanna win all of sudden?! You're pathetic… all of you are pathetic, I could easily win this championship on my own if it weren't for these stupid rules! Akuma wickedly rants.

LIBRA! Akuma commanded as Libra went berserk, blasting sonic waves in all directions, not caring who or where it hit.

What's going on here folks?! Is GanGan Galaxy really having an argument in the middle of an important battle y'all?! DJ questioned.

If you want this win, why not take this! HAHAHA! Akuma laughs as Libra starts attacking Sagittario.

AH! What is he doing? Kenta shouts.

Yeah, what the hell man?! Don't destroy my Libra! Yu rants.

Hikaru watched as Akuma was losing it and she knew she had to do something.

Hikaru, where are you going?! Ryo asks as Hikaru rushes out of the booth.

Libra was endlessly spamming attacks, attacking its own partner as Sagittario was struggling to dodge.

Weak! Akuma scowls as Libra fires a sonic wave.

When the smoke cleared, every battler had been sent flying away from the stadium and all passed out.
