They've had their eyes on y/n for a long while now.
Yunho and Mingi are of course in a relationship with eachother but the two of them have had secret feelings for him that they've kept from eachother, being afraid of ruining their own relationship that they've had for years. They both love y/n as much as they love eachother but none of them have ever given any hints of being okay with polyamory, imagine loving someone for so long but never getting a chance to tell them because you already have someone who loves you.
They didn't want to break up of course it's just they have so much love in their hearts that sometimes even they can't handle it, when y/n is with them they can't help but get all lovey dovey with him, small little romantic touches are exchanged, compliments are said with more meaning then they seem at first. all go unnoticed under the three of their eyes but to the rest of ateez its clear to them.
They'll always try to push them to do more intimate things with y/n but they've always pushed back and said they were only friends with him and continue to hide the feelings the two of them share, it's sad for the boys to watch them just go on knowing that their are some things that they aren't talking to eachother about especially since mingi and yunho's problems are both something that they both agree on.
And even when they try to tell themselves that it's just a small phase and that they'll eventually just stop feeling that way about y/n that's when they keep finding reasons to love him more. deep down mingi just wants to have a loving relationship with the boys he loves most, and yunho wants to be able to tell mingi how he feels about y/n without fear. But they both have one thing in common that's keeping them from doing those things,
they both have the anxiety of them breaking up and never being the same as they were again.
y/n also has feelings for mingi and yunho but he's never told them out of worry that they'll think that he has some sort of perverted fantasy about being with them when he really just wants to go out with them, hold their hands and even fall asleep in the comfort and safety of yunho and mingi's arms.
Heaven for him is yunho and mingi and if he can't tell them how he feels, it'll only keep hurting more then it already does.
to him they're his family and home.
One afternoon yunho and mingi were getting ready for a little lunch date when as soon as they opened the door y/n was there "oh sorry, the boys called me over and im not sure why" he said standing in the frame of the door. yunho knows whats going on and looks to the rest of his members and they all try to act natural but it fails miserably and they all look extremely suspicious, but before yunho could tell y/n that the boys were probably just goofing around mingi speaks up "we were actually just heading out to lunch, you wanna come join us?" y/n turns light peach at mingi's question, not wanting to bother them "only if it's okay with you guys" y/n and mingi look at yunho they're eyes full of pleas. yunho thought about it for a minute wanting him to come with them but also not wanting mingi to feel upset if he gets touchy with y/n "yeah it's okay, ya ready?" "Yep" he responded eagerly,
"Hold on" san came over to them before they closed the door "what place are you guys going to?" "you know the place down the street right?, cause it's not that far" mingi responed to san, san now understanding where they're going "have fun you three!" san waved at them as he closed the door. an idea formed in his head that put a mischievous smile on his face "what is it this time?" hongjoong yawned probably from having stayed up too late last night "oh nothing, just that maybe we could check and see how well their little date is gonna go" "ya know what, that's the only plan you've had that I actually agree with" seonghwa walked over to them crossing his arms. this soon caught the attention of the others "honestly they're all so in love with eachother it almost angers me, like why can't they just date y/n already" wooyoung half shouted putting his arm on hongjoong's shoulder.
"so what?, we just go in the back of the cafe and watch them unknowingly flirt with eachother?" jongho questioned not looking away from his phone "don't you want to see our little mingi and yunho happy?" everyone thought about it for a moment not wanting to bust in on their date and ruin it from the three of them but also wanting the best for them. Seonghwa spoke up at last "alright then let's go, we don't wanna waste any more time" everyone scrambled to the car and drove off to yunho, mingi and y/n's date.
Ateez successfully arrived to the cafe before the trio could and sat in the back and ordered some coffees and pastrys(just because your spying on people doesn't mean you should take up space without ordering) and wait.
The trio arrive and sit down at a table a good distance from the members, chatting to eachother and choking on they're food when one of them makes them laugh and having a good time overall it was nice to see it. They're all so close and comfortable with eachother it warms the boys hearts seeing them in pure bliss. mingi can't help but just stare at y/n in awe of him loving how imperfectly perfect his was until he looks back at him "are you okay mingi?" he questioned his face colored pink and breaking eye contact with him "yep, totally fine" mingi responed looking away embarrassed by the situation he just put himself in, yunho laying back and watching this unfold he can't help but let out a small laugh because of how cute he thought the two of them were.
The two notice his laugh as yunho holds both of their hands and looks to y/n "im glad you came with us, you're amazing" he says in the most sincere way he can holding y/n's hand up to his face, y/n's face getting increasingly more red. "now kiss" wooyoung whispered pushing his fingers together to make it look like they kiss, mingi looks at yunho feeling insecure that he might be more interested in y/n then him, yunho looks back at mingi and realizes what he's doing and quickly lets go of y/n "as our friend of course, sorry" he shyed away from him a bit "it's okay" y/n and yunho smiled at eachother then looked back at mingi "you alright baby?" yunho gives mingi a peck on his cheek "I need attention too you know" mingi joked and playfully slapped his arm before yunho gave him another quick kiss on his lips, the both of them laughing after he pulled away "im glad im not a third wheel to you guys" y/n laughed with them.
Both mingi and yunho thought about his words for a second in the moment, they both wonder 'why are we both so comfortable with being romantic to y/n?' 'is he more then just a friend?' 'is he more then someone who just joins in on our dates?' but those were thoughts they wonder about later, when they have time to themselves.
"I swear to fuck take a HINT-" hongjoong was immediately shushed by the others when he rises his voice making the trio look back for a second not knowing they were the rest of ateez before continuing with their conversation. "looks like we've all finished eating, did you guys wanna go somewhere else?" y/n suggested switching his gaze back and forth between yunho and mingi.
"this might sound kinda dumb but, I was think we could drive up to this hill and like watch the sunset, if you guys want to" mingi responed his face getting pink and avoiding eye contact "yeah that sounds cool" "alright then i'll pay the check, you both can get in the car" yunho and mingi get in the car, y/n following behind after paying. "I guess that's our queue, let's roll" but before wooyoung could get up yeosang held him back "just give them 5 minutes, then we'll go" wooyoung sat back down crossing his arms like a grumpy toddler.
The trio pulled up to that hill mingi was talking about and sat down next to the edge, it was more then beautiful just the view of seoul with its bright city lights and the setting sun in the horizon "wow" was all y/n could say as he took in the view "I love it up here" yunho said while sitting next to him with mingi on y/n's other side. mingi reached for y/n's hand to which he took it while his other hand took yunho's. y/n has crashed yunho and mingi's dates in the past but today felt different for all them, all of the trios feelings that they have for eachother since mingi and yunho started dating feel stronger then ever.
"today was fun, but now I feel tired" y/n said dramatically falling back on the grass beneath him "i had a really great time too, even though it wasn't much" mingi added laying back as well "I guess just spending time with people can be more exciting then doing a million things" yunho responed being the last one to lay back and relax. meanwhile ateez have successfully snuck around silently watching and smiling as they see mingi and yunho look so at peace with everything around them. when the three look up at the sky they can see all of the stars start to come out along with the small crescent moon that was right above them, slowly covering the sky as the sun went down. they all wish this could last for eternity, but the most beautiful things always have an end to them.
As the two boys enter the dorm after their date they're met with their members sitting in the living room with san on one of the chairs stroking shiber on his lap "so, how was he?" san questioned with a smug look on his face "um he was nice??" mingi responed confused as to what he meant when he said that "come on, you two can just say you both like him" yunho and mingi both simultaneously feel their faces heat up "stop saying that san!, he's just a friend!" yunho shouted face redder then the actual color as he went to his room and mingi went to his.
"They're a match made in heaven" seonghwa swooned imaging what the trios future with eachother could be like.
After yunho finishes putting on some more comfortable clothes he lays on his bed, his mind filled with y/n he couldn't stop thinking about him and his love for him and mingi. which leads him back to those thoughts he had earlier in day but this time he knew the answers. and no matter how hard he tried to stuff it down, no matter what he would do to try to forget,
he knew that y/n was more then someone who their joined dates.
Mingi was finishing up and getting ready to sleep when he thought more about what happened today, all of those thoughts he had started to come back to him, how affectionate yunho was with y/n and the things he said about him. mingi's brain was spilt in two, maybe yunho might also love y/n just like mingi does. or in the worst case scenario yunho might break up with him because he loves y/n more.
The thought of yunho breaking up with him causes tears to form in his eyes and start to spill over cheeks, mingi prays that yunho won't break up their relationship as that thought still looms over him.
Yunho heads over to mingi's room and mingi wipes his tears away before he could see them "you wanna cuddle baby?" mingi nods his head sleepily as yunho guides him to the bed, he lays down first and lets mingi climb up into the crook of his neck "goodnight my pretty boy" yunho whispers to mingi putting his lips on his for a second before putting his head back on top of mingi's as the two drift off to sleep for the night.
As the days went by like usual the love triangle began to find themselves spending more and more time with eachother ever since that date that y/n joined.
But with mingi almost feeling, left behind. like yunho just left him while he has more attention on y/n. and it didn't help that he would sometimes give y/n a kiss on the cheek or forehead during or after the date. he hadn't told yunho for awhile now but over time it just became more and more unbearable. especially since the members invited him to stay the night which he accepted.
That day mingi decided that he would confront yunho about how close he was getting to y/n, when suddenly as he was walking toward the room yunho was in he heard him talking to san and yeosang. "come on yunho, im not interrogating you for nothing" san said raising his eye brow at him silence fell down on them for a few moments before yeosang spoke up. "you're gonna have to tell mingi you know" he spake in a worried tone having seen them hide both of their feelings for y/n for so long now. mingi's chest began to tighten he didn't want to assume what yunho had been hiding from him but deep down somewhere where even he didn't know, he knew what he was hiding. y/n saw mingi from behind up against the door of the room yunho was in, yeosang and san were in as he began to eavesdrop on they're conversation too mingi jolting at y/n suddenly appearing behind him but careful not to make any noise. yunho glances at the two boys in front of him with fear and disorder in his eyes "you guys don't understand, I don't want to risk breaking his heart, I love him too much" he responded tearfully holding himself as the anxiety of breaking up came back to trap his heart.
"Hey yunho it's okay, just calm down and try saying it to us first" san said in a relaxing tone in an attempt to get yunho out of his head and helped him take some deep breaths. yunho picked himself back up and faced yeosang and san "okay good now pretend you're talking to mingi" yeosang led on, yunho closed his eyes as he took another deep breath opening them back up as he glanced at san who smiled at him with his thumbs up.
Yunho began to fluster up but still managed to blurt out "I think I might be in love with y/n!". mingi's heart began to burn up with the pain he felt by yunho's words, mingi thought that he was right, yunho didn't love him anymore, yunho didn't want him anymore. his eyes filled with giant tears as he silently cried carefully covering his mouth so that they wouldn't hear him. y/n felt a wave of guilt and shame wash over him, he didn't want yunho to just love him, he just wanted the the three of them to be together but now he thought that he was the reason they're going to break apart, he couldn't but also began to cry with mingi. "okay!, now go out there and tell him yourself!" san said in a determined tone "umm, alright!" yunho responed still feeling nervous but with a little more confidence this time.
Yunho headed for the door ready to talk to mingi and finally tell him how he feels. but to his horror when he opened the door he saw sad, crying mingi and y/n looking at him wide eyed after realizing they had been caught.
"W-wait mingi I can explain really!" yunho tried to defend himself coming out of the door frame and mingi standing to face him properly "I don't think I can do this anymore too yunho, im sorry" mingi rushed back to his room locking it behind him as he sank to the floor and crying feeling overwhelmed with despair. y/n stared blankly at the floor before for just a moment "I didn't mean to do this, you both deserve to be happy without me!" he quickly got his shoes going out the door making his way home with tears still in his eyes thinking his love for them was ripping the both of them up and that he was the cause of this. yunho stood there frozen with shock 'why did they both have to be right there' he thought to himself as he began to feel the same sort of heart burning sensation mingi was feeling, 'how am I going to fix this' he stumbled on his bed holding his face in his hands trying to not become a sobbing mess.
San and yeosang sat down next on each side of him, both rubbing his back to help him calm down. "its gonna be okay, just go talk to him" "you heard what he said, he's not going to forgive me that easily" san put his hands on yunho's cheeks Turing his head to face him "you love them right?!" yunho nodded "well don't give up, go talk to them they'll understand" yunho wiped the tears out of his eyes "what if they both dont want to be polyamorous?" "oh trust me, I've been watching your gay ass shit show for years now, y'all are IN love" he took a second to look at yeosang who smiled at him patting his shoulder. "just tell them how you feel, okay?" yunho got up heading to the door giving the two of them a small smile.
He knocked on the door of seonghwa's room, which mingi had ran into. "can I come in?, I really need to talk to you" he heard mingi's footsteps come toward the door, he unlocked the door and quickly jumped back on the bed. yunho steps inside the room and sees mingi curled up in a blanket his eyes puffed and watery, he looks away when he notices yunho starring at him. yunho sits himself down right next to mingi and puts a hand on his back "what is it?" mingi let out tears still streaming down his cheeks "i've messed up, alot on my wording that was a really shit way to say how I feel and im sorry" he started looking down away from mingi who was now looking back at him trying to decipher what he REALLY meant "do you wanna know how I really feel?" yunho glanced at him with flushed cheeks, mingi put his hand on yunho's shoulder "go on" yunho turned to properly face him intertwining his hands with mingi's. "I wanna be in a relationship with you and y/n" he began looking at mingi who was still listening "and I swear that everyday I'll spend with you and him, I'll never pick a favorite and love you guys the same" he looked back at mingi again seeing new tears taking shape in eyes, yunho was about to go back on his words and say that he'll only love him but he then started laughing?.
Why is he laughing?? yunho thought mingi rubbing the tears out of his eyes "oh my god, ah im so dumb all this time I thought you only loved y/n and not me" mingi took a second to breathe covering his mouth with one of his hands the other one still holding yunho's. "wait do you feel the same way!?" yunho was shocked learning that mingi would be okay with adding y/n to the relationship. mingi raised his head back up to look at yunho "of course, i've been wanting to date you and y/n for a while now too" he responded squeezing yunho's hand, they both embraced eachother tightly laughing with one another. yunho was seeing stars and feeling butterflies all over himself he thought that this was something he couldn't have in life (thanks to toxic monogamy) but they both didn't have to worry anymore. oh expect about how y/n was doing.
"Should we go to y/n and tell him how much we love him" "yes, definitely" they both got their shit and headed for the door "where are you guys going now?" hongjoong shouted from the back of the living room "no time to explain we gotta tell our boyfriend we love him" they swiftly head out the door hearing the members rejoice with happiness that they now would finally be able to attend a wedding someday.
The duo ran over to y/n's door knocking eager to see him. as he opened the door they noticed how puffed up his eyes were and the big sweater he wore clinging to the ends if his sleeves with his hands. "what are you two-" yunho and mingi both threw y/n into an hug making them stumble back into y/n's house and closing the door. the two pull away from y/n their arms still around him looking at y/n worryingly "are you okay?" mingi asks him wiping the tears falling down his face and y/n melting into his touch "im so sorry" he began to cry more tears, yunho and mingi both guided y/n to one of the couches in his living room and sat him down between them "you don't have to be sorry about anything y/n" yunho held his waist and put his head on top of his "we've talked about it, it's all good now" mingi took y/n's hand in his and pecked his cheek, y/n blushed softly feeling less depressed now that his crushes were here. "what did you two talk about?" y/n said looking up at them wondering what made get back together so quickly. the boys straightened themselves each now holding y/n's hands with the two of getting pink in their cheeks again.
"What, what is it?" y/n questioned genuinely not knowing why they were so nervous. mingi took a deep breath be answering "y/n, can we be in a relationship with you?" they both stared at him with pleading eyes. "we already talked about it so you don't need to worry" yunho put his free hand on y/n's cheek caressing it softly. "really?" he responded feeling tears take shape as he leaned into yunho's touch. "duh you're so cool, why wouldn't we love you?" mingi said hugging y/n's side yunho joining in "he's right, we really do love you" they both kiss him on his cheeks as y/n starts to happy cry while giggling from the affection of the two on his sides as they began to attack his face with more kisses.
then his tears stopped when yunho and mingi's lips were just barely inches apart from his, they all froze in that position for a moment none of them knowing what to do. "can we kiss you?" the duo asked in sync, y/n nodded as he put each of his hands on one of their cheeks. they all put their lips together as any feelings of doubt, fear and anxiety had began to disappear before them. none of them had ever three way kissed before but it was a new happy feeling that they all welcomed in with open hearts. the three pulled away with warm smiles on their faces as they each looked lovingly at eachother.
"Now that we're dating, im starting to think that all the things I said on those dates weren't so straight" y/n said his face going pink with embarrassment "no one in the poly cule is straight honey" yunho laughed as the other two joined in.
This was it, this is what they wanted for what seemed like millennia and it was finally there's. and as laughter filled the room they shared, they all knew,
That they didn't have to worry anymore about what anyone had to say.
