Chapter Three

It was the next day, and Kagome's anger at Gojo had yet to fully subside. She left her dorm room, only to cross paths with the white-haired teen. If she didn't know better, she could've assumed he was waiting around for her.

"Hey, Kagome!" Gojo peered out from around the corner, holding a hand up in a wave. Kagome didn't so much as spare him a single look as she made her way past him.

"Hmph!"

He didn't let her lack of a response dissuade him any, and he fell into pace with her. She walked fast, but it was easy to keep up with her with his longer strides. As she walked, he let his gaze linger on her.

Her hair was left free to fall down her back in her usually messy waves, a few strands falling to frame her heart-shaped face. Her shirt was white and sleeveless with strawberries all over it. The light pink skirt she wore matched well with it. The small heels on her shoes made her a bit taller, but not enough to make any genuine difference in their height difference.

"You're looking cute as usual," Gojo chimed, leaning a bit closer. Still, all he got in return was more silent treatment. "So… got any plans?"

She turned to glare at him. Irritation simmered in her eyes. "It's none of your business," she huffed, turning away again.

"Oh, come on," he tried again, leaning down a bit with a grin on his face. "I can make it worth your while, you know," he hummed in a light-hearted tone. "There's this great cafe I know you'll love- my treat."

"No thanks," she bit out in a much colder tone. "Go bug Suguru if you want a rise out of someone."

"I'm not trying to get a rise out of you," Gojo stated, circling around her fully and making her stop in her tracks just before she could run face-first into his broad chest. "I'm trying to say sorry for yesterday," he said, a pout on his face. "I want to make it up to you."

"It'll have to be another day, then," she remarked, not buying into his kicked-puppy pout. "I have plans already."

He felt a faint twinge of jealousy at her comment, but he made sure to keep it from his face and voice. "Oh, you do?" When she nodded he sighed, lifting a hand to rub at the back of his head. "With who?"

"Shoko," was all she said before she quickly stepped around him.

When he didn't move to follow her, she quickly fell out of his line of sight. He sighed a second time, shoulder slumping some.

"Man, this sucks."

"You know, it wouldn't have hurt if you took him up on the offer," Shoko commented as she looked at the girl seated across from her at the picnic table in the park. "I'm fine with a raincheck."

Kagome huffed and shook her head. "I didn't want to," she stated in a matter-of-fact tone. Her annoyance was still clear, and Shoko couldn't help but laugh under her breath. "He was such a jerk yesterday and for no reason!" she grumbled.

Shoko looked at her. "He trying to make it up to you," she said, trying to nudge Kagome in the right direction.

Kagome pursed her lips, folding her arms across her chest as she huffed. "He's an idiot if he thinks that'll get me to forgive him," she stated in a flat tone. Shoko laughed under her breath, nodding in agreement.

"Yeah he's an idiot, but he's an idiot who's hopelessly in love with you, you know," she stated. She didn't look at Kagome when the blue-eyed girl looked her way in utter surprise.

"What did you say?"

Shoko finally looked up at her. She shrugged, not feeling the slightest bit bad about spilling the truth behind her friend's helpless infatuation. "He's in love with you," she repeated. "He's shameless and dumb, but I guess love makes you do stupid things like getting jealous." Kagome remained silent as she let herself fully think about Shoko's comments. Shoko looked at her with a faint smile. "You can't really blame him. That boy's got it bad for you, you know."

"No, I don't know," Kagome huffed. The warm flush on her cheeks was very telling. Shoko leaned forward across the table some, intrigued by the flustered glow on her face.

"Is that right?" she asked. "Could it be that you might like him too?" she asked, leaning her cheek on her palm. "You're looking awfully flustered there, Kagome."

"..." The crimson on her face grew darker as she shook her head stubbornly. She couldn't tell Shoko, even if there was something to tell her…! Not when she was friends with the very boy they spoke about. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

Shoko sighed and leaned back in her chair. "You're so stubborn, you know," she remarked. To be fair, given Gojo's track record and personality, she couldn't blame her for not believing her claims. Still…- it was obvious that there was something more, considering her reaction to suddenly knowing why he acted so stupidly around her.

"Anyway…-" Kagome sighed, the sound calling Shoko's attention back to her face with a curious hum. "Even if you're right and he does feel… some type of way for me, it doesn't matter," she stated. "I'm not… It's…-"

It was clear that Kagome wasn't as confident in her looks as she should've been. It wasn't something entirely unknown. As far as Shoko knew, Kagome had always been a bit harsh on herself on plenty of things, so knowing she wasn't secure about her appearance as well didn't come as a surprise. Something about always comparing herself to someone else, or something stupid like that.

Shoko rested her chin on her palm as she looked Kagome over. "Sometimes you're too harsh on yourself, you know," she mused outloud. Kagome looked at her, surprise flittering across her face.

"Huh?"

Shoko nodded, unfazed by her confusion. "You've got a nice laugh, a cute smile, and pretty eyes," she said, listing off a few of the many qualities she knew Gojo liked about her without mentioning any of the… other features of her body he also happened to like. He was already on thin ice after the way he acted yesterday. "Not to mention you're kind, friendly, compassionate, and a great cook," she continued, listing off more things she'd overheard Gojo mention while he moped around, whining about her obliviousness as he pined for her so shamelessly. "You don't give yourself enough credit sometimes," Shoko stated. She knew that Kagome didn't see these things about herself, but that didn't mean others didn't.

The raven-haired girl was quiet as she absorbed the things Shoko had just freely listed. At her expression, Shoko smiled.

"By the way," she said, watching Kagome's expression closely. "Before you ask, those are a few of the things he likes about you."

The blush on Kagome's face burned a deeper scarlet. Shoko stood up, reaching for her hand and pulling the miko up as well so they could make their way down the street.

"So, give him a break," she said. "He doesn't know how to say it to your face."

As Kagome made her way back to her dorm hours later, she couldn't get Shoko's words out of her head. It seemed borderline impossible to wrap her head around. After all…-

She wasn't that special, was she?

Her own insecurities prevented her from buying too much into Shoko's claim. After all, even if Gojo had said all those things, it could've all been a mix-up, and he'd been talking about some other girl.

Her pace slowed until she came to a full height. She had her head bowed, her bangs just barely managing to shield her face from the outside world. She was so engrossed in her own thoughts that she almost missed the presence of someone coming up behind her. A hand fell to land on her shoulder, and she glanced up.

"That's a complicated expression there," Geto mused upon spotting the look on Kagome's face. "Are you okay?" he asked. "You were just standing here for almost five minutes now," he stated. "I was gonna wait and see if you zoned back in, but it didn't look like it."

Kagome wanted to ask Geto and see just how true Shoko's claims had been, but something prevented her from doing so. Her grip tightened on her bag as she nodded, lowering her gaze to the floor between them. "Oh, yeah," she murmured softly. "Just thinking, is all."

Geto tilted his head to the side in apparent curiosity. "Thinking about what?" he asked.

Kagome shook her head, pulling a smile onto her face. It didn't seem genuine, but it was enough to tell him that it was something she didn't want to talk about. "It's nothing," she said. "Don't worry about it."

He knew better than to push, so, despite the worry he felt, he decided to humor her and back down. Another person rounding the corner caught his eye, and a faint smile rose on his face.

"Oh, hey, Satoru."

Immediately, Kagome stiffened up. Her legs wouldn't move, even though she wanted nothing more than to vanish into her room. Geto stepped away from her, offering her a faint wave.

"See you later, Kagome."

She could do nothing more than nod while her one escape left her standing there. It was clear that Geto wasn't who Gojo had come to find when he didn't bother to go with him.

"Oh, I didn't know if you'd be back yet," Gojo said as he closed the gap between them. He didn't miss Kagome's standoffish attitude, and, at once, he was confused. The faint flush of red on her face brought out the light blues of her eyes even more, making her look so cute. It wasn't long before he remembered why he'd come this way to her room. He lifted his hand and offered what he held out for her to take. A flicker of confusion flashed across her face as she looked at the white box. "Here, for you."

Confused and taken aback, Kagome reached to take what he held out towards her. "What… is it?" she asked after a moment of silence on her end.

"A cake," he answered. "Strawberry. You're favorite, right?"

Kagome felt her heart beat a bit faster when it seemed he remembered such a simple detail about her. She nodded, her face flushing a deeper hue. "Yeah, it is…-"

Gojo smiled at her reaction. "I'm sorry about yesterday," he said. "Really, I mean it."

A small smile appeared on her face as she nodded. When it looked like he was going to leave, she acted without thinking. "Wait!" she exclaimed. He paused and looked at her. This time it was his turn to be confused. "W-Why don't we share it?" she asked. "I-If you want to, that is."

For a moment, Gojo thought he might've misheard her. Those words echoed in his head. The next second, he took full advantage of her offer. "If that's what you want, then yeah."

000

That was how they ended up seated across from each other at the table in her dorm room. Her heart was pounding loudly in her chest as she carefully cut the cake and served it, gently tucking her legs under her as she sat back down.

If it was this loud to her, she couldn't help but be a bit worried that he could hear it, too. She felt nervous, even more so than usual around him. She felt his gaze on her, and she attempted to pay it no mind.

She plucked a strawberry from the top of her slice and ate it. Her eyes lit up at the sweet taste, unable to suppress her joy. "The strawberries are so sweet!" she exclaimed. "Aren't they, Satoru-?" The words fell from her lips as she looked up at his face, momentarily forgetting how to even breathe.

He sat with his head resting on his palm. The dark sunglasses he usually wore were folded and placed on the table's surface by his other hand. His eyes, that stunning shade of blue that seemed unique to only him, were focused on her. An emotion she wasn't sure how to gauge was reflected in them as he watched her. At her question, he smiled.

"Are they?" he asked. When she nodded, still not trusting herself to speak at that moment, he plucked the plumpest one from his own slice and promptly held it out for her. Her face flushed a warm hue at the action. "Say aah~"

With enough encouragement, Kaogme eventually relented. She bit into the strawberry, a bit of the juice dripping down her chin. Before she could wipe it off, he had already swiped his thumb across her lower lip. There were no words exchanged as he licked the juice from his thumb.

"You're right," Gojo mused. "They are sweet."

Kagome felt even more heat seep into her cheeks at his actions. She didn't know what to do or say in response, her heart pounding loudly in her chest as he acted as if nothing was out of the ordinary.

Inwardly, she blamed Shoko for the way she was reacting right now. If not for her claims earlier, then she wouldn't be overthinking every little thing. After all, when did Gojo not tease her? He took every chance to, it seemed.

Auroua-chan: Finally got this chapter finished! So, Shoko told Kagome straight-out that Gojo liked her. Not that she believed her. Speaking of, it seems as though she forgave him for earlier, at least.

Kagome thinks she's overthinking and mistaking Gojo's teasing as flirting, when it is, in fact, flirting. Seriously, it's no wonder he's going insane trying to win her over.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
