It was the night after they solved the case of the stolen coin/ suicide. Nick couldn't get his mind off the love story he and Bishop read. He also couldn't get his mind off Bishop either, what cruel tricks was his mind playing on him. He knew that she hadn't had a good Valentine's Day since Jake and he knew that he wanted her so he figured he'd try to kill two birds with one stone
After they had left the office he went to the nearest drug store, getting a box of chocolates, some flowers, and a tiny teddy bear mainly for the sappy-ness of it.
"Got a special lady waiting at home?" The older woman working as a cashier asked Nick as he set the items at the counter
"Yeah..she's..very special" He smiled slightly as he thought of Ellie. All the times he wanted to punch someone out for her. The time he spent in the hospital because of the Russian brat who tried to kill him and her. All the times his heart sank as she got hurt. The lengths he'd go for her.
"Well I hope it goes well" The cashier smiled as Nick paid and took his items with him to Ellie's house
When he got there stood at her door for a moment before knocking on her door and quickly hiding the objects in his hands behind his back and waiting.
Ellie got up from her couch when she heard a knock at the door, confused on who and why someone would be knocking on her door at 9 at night. Raising her brows slightly when she saw Nick
"Hey, Nick..what are you doing here?" She asked, tilting her head slightly as she pursed her lips
"Well I uh..I had a question" He nodded
"One you couldn't call me for?" She asked again
"That's no way to treat a friend but no one I couldn't call you for so you
done interrogating me?"
She sighed "sorry..and yes, go ahead ask your question" she gave a nod
'Here it comes Nick, ask the question' he thought to himself in his head
"Will you…be.. my valentine?" He pulled the items from behind his back, fumbling slightly before holding them out to her with a tiny, nervous smile
She was speechless for a second, blinking as she was processing his question and the gifts. She was surprised to say the least
"Ellie?..you ok" He asked with slight concern in his voice
She shook her head slightly "I'm fine..just wasn't expecting this..especially out of you.."
"So…what's the verdict, Elle?" He bit his lips in anticipation
She gave a smile "Yes Nick..I will be your valentine.." She took the flowers and chocolates from him, leaving him with the bear for now. She set the flowers and chocolates on her entryway table before planting a soft kiss against his lips.
The kiss left him stunned as she pulled away, going to put the flowers in some water. That was better than anything he could have imagined.
"You coming Nick!?" She called from her kitchen
"Y-yeah!" He snapped out of it and made his way inside, closing her door behind him
Ellie sat the water filled vase of flowers on her small dining room table with a smile. While she was still surprised Nick wanted her to be his valentine she wasn't anything less than delighted, happy, almost ecstatic.
When Nick came inside he see the bear down and made his way over to her "Well I gotta say I wasn't expecting that" He smiled
"You started it" She responded with a smile as she stepped back from the table to admire the flowers "How did you know snap dragons were my favorites?"
"I just had a feeling" He shrugged with a tiny smile, glancing at her then at the flowers
She couldn't help but smile at his words, they weren't even dating and he knew her well enough to correctly guess her favorite flowers. She felt butterflies in her stomach which she had never felt with jake. She couldn't take her thoughts away from Nick at this moment. She planted another kiss on his lips, but this one said more than the first one. It said what they both had been subconsciously saying for years.
I love you
