Episode 444: April, Maylene, and June
About a few days came and went since Lucas caught Gligar who was part of a Gligar swarm led by a Gliscor. Speaking of Gliscor, Sora exchanged his for Staravia as they continued on their way toward Veilstone City. And that was they bumped into Roxas, Xion, Lea, Ash, Leaf, Ethan, Kris, Lyra, Brenan, May, Chase, Elaine, Wes, Rui, Michael, the DigiDestined, Xipak, Celeste, Marill, Volt, and Maple have just arrived as well.
"Hey, Sora," Ash greeted.
"How lucky we are that you came along," May said.
"And at the same time, too," Lyra added.
"Marill, Marill!" Marill said. They noticed Riku, Naminé, and Kanako with them.
"Hey, you're that girl from before. Kanako, wasn't it?" Roxas asked.
"Isn't she the one who attacked you along with that Silver Moon guy and Ben's old student?" TK asked.
"There's no mistaking it," Ethan said.
"Um, I..." Kanako said.
"I know how it looks, but you can trust her. She switched sides. Riku can fill you guys in on the details later, okay?" Sora asked.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Sora 2 is right. You remember Ken was our enemy at first? He turned over a new leaf, didn't he?" Davis asked.
"You're right about that, Davis. And that wasn't easy," Yolei said as Cody nodded in agreement.
"Sora 2?" Kanako asked, puzzled.
"Him. They call him that just so they won't get themselves mixed up who they're talking about," Riku told his sister.
"I get it," Kanako said.
"Well, anyway my name is-" Davis was about to introduce himself.
"Davis Motomiya. I already know who you are," Kanako said.
"Huh? You do?" Davis asked.
"Yeah. You're the DIgiDestined. The same ones who fought the evil Digimon that threatened the real and Digital worlds. You're also Tai and Kari Kamiya. Matt Ishida, TK Takaishi, Izzy Izumi, Joe Kido, Sora Takenouchi, Mimi Tachikawa, Ken Ichijouji, Yolei Inoue, Cody Hida, Meiko Mochizuki, along with Amy," Kanako said.
"Since you know about us, do you know about...?" Izzy pasued.
"I do. There's Takato Matsuki, Henry and Suzie Wong, Rika Nonaka, Jeri Katou, Kazu Shioda, Kenta Kitagawa, Ryo Akiyama, Takuya Kanabara, Koji Minamoto, Zoe Izumi, JP Shiniyama, Tommy Himi, and Koichi Kimura," Kanako said.
"Wow, and she didn't even lose a breath," Tai said.
"If she knows about us, then Count Ernesh does, too," Izzy said.
"He does. He had his eyes on Ken for a while, but when you switched sides, he lost interest in you," Kanako said.
"Gee, I feel so honored," Ken deadpanned. Everyone all laughed at that.
"Okay, that's enough talk about dark pasts, and focus on right now," Lea said.
"Lea's right we each have a Gym battle to get to," Roxas said.
"Hey, isn't the Master here?" Kairi asked.
"Actually, no. She said she was meeting up with Ben to discuss something. She wouldn't tell us what," Kris said.
"You don't think she's keeping something from us, do you?" Elaine asked.
"Keeping what from us?" Dawn asked.
"She has been pretty secretive about something since Sinnoh, but whatever it is, I'm sure there's a good reason why she's keeping us in the dark about it," Ash said.
"Let's head for the Pokémon Center and take a break before heading for the Veilstone City Gym," Sora said.
"Right," the rest of the group agreed as they headed on down to Veilstone City.
Over in the Veilstone City Gym, Paul was at the Veilstone City Gym. He was a battling young girl with pale skin and short, pink hair. She wears a sleeveless purple and black top and plain, white pants. She also wears blue fingerless gloves on her hands. Her feet and arms are bare. She wears two bandages, one on her left arm, and one covering her nose. Battling against Paul's Murkrow is a Lucario.
"Murkrow! Sky Attack!" Paul ordered. Murkrow started to glow to build up energy.
"Aura Sphere! Full power!" The girl ordered. Lucario forms a ball of energy and hurls it at Murkrow and landed it a hit on the Darkness Pokémon and fell to the ground.
"Murkrow is unable to battle! Lucario wins! The victory goes to Maylene Gym Leader!" The referee announced. Maylene beamed.
"Good work as usual, Lucario!" Maylene said.
"Lucario!" Lucario said. Paul was angered that he lost to her.
"I cannot believe this!" Paul snarled.
"Looks like you're all talk, Paul. Come back when you're man enough," Maylene said. Paul took his leave and he gave a punch on the wall so hard, his knuckle started to bleed. He didn't care how bad it was. He stormed right out. "What a sore loser." The referee went up to the Veilstone City Gym Leader.
"Don't you think you're getting overconfident, Maylene?" The referee asked.
"Overconcident? Don't be ridiculous. I'm just that good. Reggie's brother may talk big, but he's always been such a big ass. He is nothing like him and he never will be. Besides, it felt good to beat him," Maylene said.
Meanwhile, over to the Pokémon Center, a young man with purple hair and black eyes is helping out Nurse Joy. He had a light green aprin and a salmon shirt and light tan pants and brown shoes.
"You're such a lifesaver, Reggie. With one of my Chansey having a cold, I've been terribly shorthanded," Nurse Joy said.
"I'm just glad to help out anyway I can, Nurse Joy. I had nothing going on today ever since Mr. Bastion came by this morning to pick up his Farfetch'd after I taught it how to use Brave Bird," Reggie said.
"That's wonderful. He has always been busy with his work, it takes away any time he has to train his Pokémon," Nurse Joy said.
"Well, I used to be a Pokémon Trainer before I became a Pokémon Breeder," Reggie said.
"If I remember correctly, you competed in Sinnoh, Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn Pokémon Leagues before you challenged the Hoenn Battle Frontier, but..." Nurse Joy was cut off when she heard the door opened and the group entered the Pokémon Center. "Oh! Welcome! How can I assist you?"
"We're here to rest up before challenging the Veilstone City Gym. It's just the three of us who's taking the challenge," Sora said.
"I see. One of my Chaney will set up some available rooms for you," Nurse Joy said. Reggie came to the front. He saw Sora and Lucas in the Pokémon Center.
"Hey, I know you two. You were in the Hearthome Tag Battle Tournament. My brother was there as well," Reggie said.
"And you would be?" Sora asked.
"Right. I got to introduce myself. My name's Reggie, and I'm a Pokémon Breeder," Reggie said.
"Nice to meet you, Reggie, I'm-" Sora said before Reggie cuts him off.
"I know. You're Sora. And you're Lucas. I was watching you on TV. Sora, you were batling with that other Trainer with the Alolan Raichu," Reggie said.
"You saw all that? I shouldn't be surprised," Sora said.
"I'm Kairi, and this is Angel," Kairi introduced.
"Eevee," Angel said.
"My name's Roxas, and this is Xipak," Roxas introduced.
"Pika, Pika," Xipak said.
"I'm Xion, and this is Celeste," Xion introduced.
"Eevee," Celeste said.
"I'm Riku, and this is Eevee," Riku introduced.
"Eevee, vee," Eevee said.
"I'm Naminé, and this is Azurill," Naminé introduced.
"Azu, Azu," Azurill chirped.
"I'm Kanako."
"The name's Lea. Got is memorized?" Lea asked.
"I guess," Reggie said.
"My name's Ash."
"My name's Leaf."
"I'm Chase, and this is Volt."
"Pikachu," Volt said.
"I'm Elaine, and this is Maple."
"Eevee," Maple said.
"I'm Ethan."
"My name's Kris."
"I'm Lyra, and this is Marill."
"Marill, Marill," Marill said.
"My name's Brenden."
"I'm May."
"My name's Dawn."
"My name's Michael."
"I'm Wes."
"My name's Rui."
"I'm Tai."
"My name's Matt."
"My name's also Sora."
"My name's Izzy."
"I'm Mimi."
"I'm Joe."
"My name's Davis."
"I'm TK."
"My name's Kari."
"I'm Yolei."
"Hello, my name's Cody."
"My name's Ken."
"I'm Amy."
"And my name's Meiko, and this is little Mei," Meiko finished.
"Meowth," Little Mei said.
"Nice to meet you. How would you like to come to my house and we'll talk," Reggie said. Just then, Chimchar came out of his own Pokéball and looked around.
"Chimchar, why did you come out on your own like that?" Sora asked. Chimchar looked right at Reggie and smiled. Chimchar went up to Reggie and he smiles right back at him.
"Hi there, Chimchar. It's good to see you," Reggie said.
"You know my Chimchar?" Sora asked.
"This Chimchar used to be my brother's," Reggie said. The whole group went wide-eyed.
"Wait, your brother is Paul?" Sora asked.
"Yeah," Reggie said. He noticed the shock on their faces. "I can see that you're very shocked by this new bit of information." Reggie led the group to his house.
As soon as they arrived, an Electabuzz spotted them and fired a Thunderbolt on Pikachu, making him yelp. Pikachu turned to see the Electric Pokémon and charged at the Electric Pokémon with a Quick Attack, so it fought back with a Thunder Punch. Eevee came to Pikachu's aid byfiring a Shadow Ball, hitting Electabuzz on the mark. Electabuzz came after Eevee for getting in the way as Angel fired Swift at Electabuzz. Marill and Piplup fired Bubble Beam at it. Hearing the commotion, the group turned to the fight at hand.
"Electabuzz, cut that out!" Reggie yelled, making Electabuzz stop. Reggie started to scold Electabuzz. "I thought I told you not to cause any trouble around here." Electabuzz started to brood.
"That's definitely Paul's Electabuzz," Sora said.
"Sorry about that. I guess Paul's Electabuzz just like to cause problems for you," Reggie said.
"I'm not judging you," May said. They all get inside to have a talk. Chase starts things off.
"How exactly are you brothers? You seem to be very nice," Chase pointed out.
"Pika," Volt agreed.
"Well, the whole difference between us is that I actually care about my Pokémon. Some of the local people around here has taken exception to Paul's way of raising Pokémon and they come down on me about it," Reggie explained.
"You'll find that we take exception on that as well, Reggie," Kairi said.
"I noticed. But I gotta admit, that he was surprised to hear that he went up against a Pokémon League Champion right up to when you challenged the Oreburgh Gym Leader into a battle. And how Paul battled you and lost," Reggie said.
"Yeah. He was battling for power and he lost to me that way," Sora said.
"Paul even told me about how you took Chimchar under your wing after he abandoned him. I never did that with any of my Pokémon," Reggie said.
"I can understand that. Paul should know better by now," Riku stated.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"Riku," Naminé said.
"No, Riku's right. Paul should already know how to treat his Pokémon better, and it seems he's being too permissive about his brother's actions," Lea said.
"Hey, you're just going to get us kicked out of here," Sora said.
"No, I won't, you got nothing to worry about. I'm already too used to it," Reggie said. Ash then noticed the Gym Badges and Frontier Symbols on display. Only six out of seven Frontier Symbols were present. There were some from Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn.
"Hey, aren't those Paul's Gym Badges?" Ash asked.
"No, those are mine. You see, I was a Pokémon Trainer before I became a Pokémon Breeder. As you can see, I competed in the Indigo Plateau, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh Pokémon Leagues. I started off in Sinnoh first," Reggie said.
"That's the Balance Badge, so you battled my dad and beat him," May said.
"Your dad?" Reggie asked.
"That'll mean you never met her. May here is the daughter of the Petalburg City Gym Leader, Norman," Ethan said.
"Oh, so you're Norman's kid?" Reggie asked.
"Yeah, me and my little brother, Max," May said.
"I see. I actually had to fight hard for the Balance Badge, and your dad didn't make it easy for me," Reggie said.
"It's the same with me and Brendan here," Sora said.
"And since Paul took on the Hoenn Pokémon League, he had to challenge the Petalburg City Gym," Brendan said.
"Speaking of Gyms, how many Gym Badges did you earn from your journey in Sinnoh?" Reggie asked.
"Well, me and Roxas has two Gym Badges, and Sora here has three," Lucas said as he, Sora, and Roxas has shown Reggie their Gym Badges.
"That's a Relic Badge alright. You managed to get a battle from Fantina, didn't you?" Reggie asked.
"Yeah, and I had to fight hard for that one. And I'm going to give it everything I have," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"That's what I expect from a rival of Paul's. If you like, I can point you in the right direction for the Veilstone City Gym," Reggie said.
"That'll be great," Sora said.
After getting the directions from Reggie, the group has made it to the Veilstone City Gym, and stepped in. They saw Maylene doing some training before she noticed she has visitors.
"Let me guess. You're here to challenge the Gym Leader?" Maylene asked.
"Yeah, we were told that Maylene is the Gym Leader here," Sora said.
"You were told correctly. I'm Maylene. Which one among you will be challenging me?" Maylene asked.
"That'll be me, my brother, and our friend, Lucas. Each of us will be challenging you to a Gym battle one at a time," Sora said.
"And we thought of having him have the first battle," Lucas said. Sora looked at Lucas.
"Yeah. And the two of us can wait our turn," Roxas said.
"Pika," Xipak said.
"Then, I accept your challenge. We can begin whenever you're ready," Maylene said.
Not too long afterwards, Sora and Maylene got into position for their Gym battle. The referee stepped in to begin the battle.
"The battle between the challenger, Sora from Pallet Town and the Gym Leader, Maylene is about to begin! Each Trainer will be using three Pokémon! And the challenger is the only one who shall be permitted to substitute Pokémon! The battle shall be over once either Trainer's side is unable to continue battling! Now, choose your first Pokémon and begin!" The referee announced. Maylene took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Meditite!" Maylene called out as Her Meditite entered the battlefield. Sora grinned.
"Psychic-type moves won't affect Bronzor so much! So, here's my move! Bronzor! Go!" Sora called out as he took out a Pokéball and threw it. Bronzor came out to the battlefield as well. "Start with Gyro Ball!"
Bronzor came right at Meditite to land a blow, but Maylene was expecting this.
"Meditite! Detect!" Maylene ordered. Meditite uses Detect to dodge Bronzor's attack. Sora knew it would have been too easy for Bronzor to land a blow. "Now, use Thunder Punch!" Meditite came at Bronzor to land a hit.
"Use Confusion!" Sora ordered. Bronzor used Confusion to hold Meditite. "Now Gyro Ball!" Bronzor used Gyro Ball which hit Meditite. The Meditite Pokémon took a bad hit from the attack.
"Not bad, Sora, but is it good enough?" Maylene asked. "Meditite! Use Meditate!" Meditite starts to meditate and became surrounded by a white aura.
"Bronzor! Use Flash Cannon!" Sora ordered. Bronzor fires Flash Cannon right at Meditite.
"Detect!" Maylene ordered. Meditite uses it to dodge Bronzor's Flash Cannon. "Use Meditate again!" Meditite meditates some more to build up its strength.
"Confusion!" Sora ordered. Bronzor tried to hold Meditite.
"Detect!" Maylene ordered. Meditite uses it to dodge Confusion. "Now use Thunder Punch!" Meditite came right at Bronzor to land a Thunder Punch.
"Dodge it!" Sora called out. Bronzor tried to avoid Meditite's Thunder Punch, but it came out too strong and fast to dodge. Bronzor fell on the ground but levitated again.
"Bronzor is still holding on after taking that Thunder Punch. How much longer does Meditite keep giving Bronzor some hits?" Davis asked.
"I would say not long considering his plan with Psychic-type Pokémon has started to sink," Tai said.
"Thunder Punch on more time!" Maylene ordered. Meditite came at Bronzor to land another Thunder Punch onto the Bronze Pokémon.
"Gyro Ball!" Sora ordered. Bronzor came at Meditite again and its spinning attack managed to hit Meditite successfully, thanks to Bronzor's higher speed, sending it flying in the air and landing on its back. Meditite had been taken down.
"Meditite is unable to battle! Bronzor wins!" The referee announced.
"Way to go, Bronzor!" Sora praised. Bronzor turned and nodded.
"Wow, that was amazing!" Maylene said. She calls Meditite back. "Thank you, Meditite. You fought hard." She took out her next Pokéball and threw it. "Your turn, Machoke!" Maylene's Pokéball opened and her Machoke came on out to battle. Sora took out Bronzor's Pokéball and used it to call it back and took out his next Pokéball.
"Your turn now, Staravia!" Sora called out as the Starling Pokémon came out to battle.
"So now it's a Flying-type. That's some good planning you did, Sora. But you played right into my hands" Maylene said.
"I'm ready for anything you got! Throw everything you got at me! Staravia! Use Acrobatics!" Sora ordered. Staravia comes at the Superpower Pokémon while zigzagging during the flight.
"Don't say I didn't warn you. Block it by using Brick Break!" Maylene ordered. Machoke swings its arm at the Starling Pokémon and blocks Staravia's Acrobatics.
"She used Brick Break to block?!" Chase exclaimed.
"That's exactly what she did!" Kairi said. "But that's okay, because he can do it!"
"Vee!" Angel said.
"Machoke! Use Rock Slide!" Maylene ordered. Machoke sends out Rock Slide to pelt Staravia.
"Dodge with Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Staravia uses his Quick Attack to dodge the rocks. "Now use Aerial Ace!" Staravia used Aerial Ace which struck Machoke, causing super effective damage.
"With Aerial Ace, Machoke is unable to dodge, which is a good strategy," Izzy said.
"However, Machoke still has energy," Ken said.
"And now I get what she meant when she said Sora played into her hands. Her Machoke can use Rock Slide, and that's super effective against Flying-types," Wes said.
"Machoke! Seismic Toss!" Maylene ordered. Machoke comes at Staravia.
"Dodge and Wing Attack!" Sora ordered. Staravia dodged before hitting Machoke with Wing Attack. "Now use Acrobatics!" Staravia came flying at Machoke with Acrobatics and landed a hit while knocking out Machoke who didn't have time to dodge.
"Machoke is unable to battle! Staravia wins!" The referee announced.
"This isn't what I was expected," Maylene said before calling Machoke back. "Thank you, Machoke. You deserve a good long rest." She took out her third Pokéball. "Here is my third and last Pokémon." She threw her Pokéball. "Lucario! Go!" Her Pokéball opened and her Lucario emerged from inside, ready to battle.
"So, she has a Lucario. That means, a Fighting and Steel-type to make things harder. That won't stop us. You still up, Staravia?" Sora asked.
"Star," Staravia replied.
"Good. Now use Acrobatics!" Sora ordered. Staravia comes at Lucario to land an Acrobatics onto it.
"Dodge!" Maylene called out as Lucario easily avoids Staravia. "Now, use Aura Sphere!" Lucario unleashes Aura Sphere and it struck Staravia hard.
"Use Aerial Ace!" Sora ordered. Staravia comes at Lucario again.
"Use Force Palm!" Maylene ordered as Lucario uses Force Palm onto Staravia and he fell on his back, beaten.
"Staravia is unable to battle! Lucario wins!" The referee announced.
"Looks like Maylene's starting to make a comeback," Cody said.
"Let's see how long that lasts," Kari said. Sora calls back his Staravia and he took out his next Pokéball and threw it.
"Bronzor! Back to action!" Sora called out his Bronzor back to battle. "Use Gyro Ball!"
Bronzor came spinning at Lucario.
"Force Palm!" Maylene ordered. Lucario came at Bronzor with Force Palm and lands a hit onto the Bronze Pokémon.
"Bronzor! Confusion and then Flash Cannon!" Sora ordered. Bronzor used Confusion to hold Lucario before hitting it with Flash Cannon, not effective but did damage.
"Confusion was a great strategy!" Chase said.
"Let's go, Bronzor, let's go!" Kairi and her Pokémon cheered.
"Bronzor! Gyro Ball!" Sora ordered. Bronzor came spinning towards Lucario to land a hit.
"Aura Sphere!" Maylene ordered. Lucario launches its attack which hits and knocks out Bronzor who fell to the ground beaten.
"Bronzor is unable to battle! Lucario wins!" The referee announced.
"Now, both have one Pokémon left to use," Roxas said.
"I'm going to guess this is going to go either way," Izzy said.
"We better watch and see," Mimi said. Sora calls back Bronzor and looked right at his Pokéball.
"Okay, this will be your very first battle so far, so let's see how well you'll do in this," Sora said. "Go! Mothim!" He threw it and Mothim came on out to battle.
"You came fully prepared for this. You're quite a strategist," Maylene said.
"Thanks, Maylene. Mothim is very ready to go at it with your Lucario. And I'll do that right now. Mothim! Use Psybeam!" Sora ordered. Mothim fired Psybeam right at Lucario.
"Aura Sphere!" Maylene ordered. Lucario forms an Aura Sphere in its hands and sends it right at Mothim. It cuts through Mothim's Psybeam and it struck Mothim on the mark, luckily the damage wasn't effective for Mothim.
"Mothim! Use Bug Buzz!" Sora ordered. Mothim used Bug Buzz which managed to hit Lucario.
"Use Metal Claw!" Maylene ordered, knowing that Bone Club won't damage Mothim, Lucario came at Mothim and swipes its claws at the Moth Pokémon.
"Quiver Dance!" Sora ordered. Mothim's body begins to glow white and he then starts dancing around Lucario, leaving behind afterimages of himself. "Now use Bug Buzz!" Mothim used Bug Buzz which hit the Aura Pokémon with more power.
"Aura Sphere!" Maylene ordered. Lucario forms Aura Sphere and sends it out towards Mothim and lands a hit onto Mothim. "Now use Metal Claw!" Lucario heads towards the moth Pokémon with Metal Claw.
"Dodge and use Psybeam!" Sora ordered. Mothim avoids Lucario's Metal Claw and lands his Psybeam onto Lucario. "Now use Air Slash!" Mothim fired Air Slash at Lucario and lands a hit onto it.
"Use Aura Sphere!" Maylene ordered and Lucario prepared Aura Sphere.
"Use Quiver Dance and then attack with Air Slash!" Sora instructed and Mothim used Quiver to increase the special attack, special defense and speed again before firing Air Slash which sliced through Lucario's Aura Sphere attack after being launched by Lucario while hitting the Aura Pokémon, too.
"Sora 2 told Mothim to use Quiver to add an extra special attack to Air Slash and then overpower Lucario's Aura Sphere," Yolei said.
"Now Sora's Mothim is faster than before, too." Xion added.
"Bug Buzz!" Sora ordered. Mothim used Bug Buzz to hit Lucario.
"Use Metal Claw!" Maylene ordered and Lucario came with Metal Claw.
"Dodge it!" Sora ordered. Mothim dodged easily thanks to the extra speed. "Use Psybeam!" Sora called out as Mothim used Psybeam which hit and Lucario suddenly felt dizzy.
"Lucario!" Maylene couldn't help but gasp.
"Lucario is now confused," May said.
"That will give the advantage to Mothim," Brendan said.
"Use Bug Buzz!" Sora ordered and Mothim used Bug Buzz to hit Lucario. "And now use Air Slash!" Mothim sent two crossed blades made of wind which hit Lucario again.
"Lucario!" Maylene called out. "Try to use Aura Sphere again!" Lucario attempts to use Aura Sphere, but it ended up hurting itself because of its confusion. "Oh no!"
"Mothim! Use Bug Buzz!" Sora called out. Mothim sent his attack at Lucario, hitting it again. "Now use Psybeam!" Mothim fires Psybeam right at Lucario. The Aura Pokémon gets back up on its feet while recovering from the confusion. Everyone was anxious to see if Lucario could still keep going. Lucario stood there for a few moments before Lucario eventually fell back on the ground, beaten.
"Lucario is unable to battle! Mothim wins! The victory goes to the challenger, Sora from Pallet Town!" The referee announced. The group cheered for Sora, knowing he has won the battle against Maylene. Speaking of which, Maylene called back her Lucario and smiled.
"You put up an excellent battle as always," Maylene said. She approached Sora as he held out his arm for Mothim.
"That was an awesome job, Mothim," Sora said.
"Yes, it was," Maylene agreed as she approached Sora. "You have demonstrated that you have a clear connection with your Pokémon and that is what led you to your victory. So, as proof of your victory here in the Veilstone City Gym, it pleases me to present you with the Cobble Badge." Maylene held out a badge that is reminiscent of bricks or a tatami mat. Sora accepts it and places it in his Badge case.
"That makes four, so now you're halfway done," Leaf said.
"Yeah, but Lucas and Roxas still have theirs to have," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"And I think it should be Lucas to have the next one," Roxas said.
"Pika," Xipak said.
"Then, we will have the match tomorrow," Maylene said.
"Cool. I'll train for it," Lucas said.
"Well, if you put up quite a battle like your friend here, then I'm looking forward to it," Maylene said.
