Almost at the speed of light, Brittany manages to run down to the reception to rent three pairs of ice skates and buy some snacks, run back up, get dressed, pack the snacks and make a few sandwiches, and pack everything so it will be a surprise by the time Santana is knocking at her door again, accompanied by her son this time.
As she hears the door, she grabs the two backpacks she has, and goes to open the door. For a split second she smiles adoringly as she takes the image in. Santana is wearing thermal black leggings, white snow boots, and a thick white wool sweater, with her hair tied up in two braids. Alonso, on the other hand, is wearing grey sweatpants (Brittany hopes he has something thermal inside them as well, since it's like -15ยบ C outside today), black boots and his usual black coat; the one Santana always struggles to make him put on. Britt herself is wearing her fuchsia snowboard pants, black boots and a black and pink coat, her hair flowing freely over her shoulders.
After a few seconds of just watching, she just about throws one of the backpacks to Santana, and moves her right hand up to high five Alonso.
"Sonso, my man!" She greets him with a bright smile. "You ready for an adventure?" She asks and starts walking with him towards the elevator.
Santana just stands there flabbergasted, holding the backpack between her hands.
"Why, hello to you, too..." She muses under her breath with a huff before she starts walking behind her two favourite people in the world.
For the whole ride, Santana limits her whole existance to observe. Brittany really has a talent to deal with Alonso. He is a great boy, but their bond is not like Santana's with him. For a moment she even feels a little hurt, but she does not let herself go there because she knows for fact that Sonso adores her. They are just mother and son, it's normal to have differences, or, in their case, too many similarities.
This could be her family. This is her family. Brittany has made her way into it effortlessly and now it's hard for her to imagine a life without the blonde. But being an adult sucks.
When they get outside, Alonso is running around happily, laughing, as Brittany follows him, running too, and Santana follows them, walking, but she can't help the hearty laugh that leaves her lungs. At that, Brittany stops and looks at her adoringly. She loves the sound of Santana's laugh.
"You really are worse than him." Santana mutters as she catches up with them.
"Alonso, we need to wait for your mama, okay?" Brittany says and it works like magic: Sonso stops dead in his tracks. Santana honestly hasn't figured out yet how she does it. "And it's enough running for now, we have a long walk ahead and I don't want you tired too early." She adds, and the boy nods.
"Okay, Britty." He singsongs as he grabs Brittany's hand and interwines his small fingers with hers.
Both Santana and Brittany feel like they could die right about now.
"I think he loves you more than I do." Santana mutters jokingly, nudging Brittany's ribs softly.
"I definitely love him more than I love you." Brittany answers with a perfectly practised poker face.
For a moment Santana pouts. It's not even intentional but her lower lip puffs out as the corners of her mouth tear downwards and her eyes lose their brightness for a second. Brittany, at the sight, stops walking, moves her free hand up to Santana's neck and pulls her closer until she is close enough to give her a scorching kiss that leaves Santana breathless.
"Don't look at me like that." Brittany mutters against Santana's lips, her breath slightly ragged. "I was just joking." She adds before she resumes her walk.
Again, Santana is left there dumbfounded, with a stupidly-in-love smile on her face.
The rest of the hike goes uneventfully, with one stop to rest and drink some water, but a couple hours later they arrive to the most beautiful place Santana has seen yet.
It's a lake. A frozen lake, surrounded by snowy trees, and the snow on the ground is pristine, nobody has walked through it yet, so it's reflecting the sunlight beautifully. She can't help but gasp at the sight.
"Is this the place?" Alonso asks, and with Brittany's nod, he starts running around again.
"Wait, wait, come back." Brittany asks him as she takes her own backpack and puts it to the ground. She opens it and starts pulling ice skates out of it, to Alonso's surprise. And especially Santana's.
"Who doesn't love ice skating?" Brittany asks nervously, as everyone is quiet for a couple seconds.
Then Santana pumps into action. She leaves her backpack on the ground, grabs the medium sized skates from Brittany's hand and starts running towards the lake.
"The nugget doesn't know how to skate!" She yells as Alonso is trying to follow her, but the thick layer of snow is proving to be hard to navigate for his tiny legs. Santana visibly reduces her pace as she sees him struggling, giving him the chance to catch her.
As he does, they both fall to the ground, Alonso on top of Santana.
"Mama! Now you teach me to skate." He grunts as he laughs because Santana is tickling him. "We's gotta show Britty what we can do!" He adds trying to free himself from his mother's grip.
This time it's Brittany who watches them adoringly. Santana is such a great mother. Brittany knows only by watching them, that she would die for him. And for Britt it's clear that Sonso, even at his young age, would die for his mother, too.
Brittany gets close to them and sits down on the snow. At this, as a well timed coreography, Santana releases Alonso from her grip, and he stumbles through the snow to throw himself onto Brittany. She falls backwards laughing as he tries to climb up her body, but what she wasn't expecting was the addition of Santana's weight to the equation. She can't help but laugh harder.
"Okay, okay, okay! You guys win!" She yells breathlessly as her laugh slowly dies down, and both Alonso and Santana get off of her.
Soon all of them have their ice skates well secured on their feet and are sliding across the lake effortlessly.
Well no, not effortlessly. Brittany might look like she has done this her whole life, but Santana's skills seem to be a little rusty, especially now that she has an eight year boy perched on her leg holding on to her for dear life.
Brittany decides to go on their aid, grabbing Alonso's hands.
"You remember your skiing lessons?" She asks as she glides backwards slowly, still holding Sonso's hands firmly. "This is the same. Slide one foot before the other." She tells him, and he does it. It's a little wobbly, but he is moving just the way he is supposed to. "There you go, you got it! That's my boy!"
Brittany sees from the corner of your eye that Santana is doing better now that she can move freely, and Sonso is gaining more and more confidence as well. Soon she has released him and the three of them are goofily skating around the small lake.
Tentatively, Santana gets close to Brittany and grabs her hand.
"Thank you." She mutters bashfully as she stops moving, bringing Brittany to a halt too. She then wraps her arms around Brittany's neck and kisses her firmly.
"Yuk!" They hear Sonso yell and when they break the kiss they see he is looking at them with his chest puffed, arms crossed over it, and his eyebrows deeply burrowed in a frown. His resemblance to his mother is almost unreal. "Britty, if you kiss mama all the time, does that make you my mommy?" He asks.
And then chaos.
Santana slips onto the ice, which Brittany can't understand how happened since they were not moving; Brittany loses all colour on her face, and Alonso looks at her expectantly.
"No. I mean...not exactly. I mean..." Brittany stutters and looks down towards Santana for a little help, but the brunette is all spread out on the ice and seems to be fighting with herself to get up.
Finally Brittany decides to take her out of her misery and helps her up, grabbing her by her coat.
"I'm sorry. Tell him something, will ya'?" Brittany mutters nervously under her breath.
Santana looks like she's seen seven ghosts, but suddenly glides towards Alonso.
"Dear, Brittany is not your mommy..." She starts. "Unless...you want her to be?" She adds and looks at Brittany hopefully. "I love Britt and she loves me, which makes us...a couple, I guess. She, being your mama's partner, makes her whatever you want her to be." She finishes.
Brittany is swooning. Hard.
"Britty, we are the bestest friends!" Alonso declares, looking a little bit confused from what his mother told him. Both women smile softly and Brittany skates close to him to high five him.
"That we are, buddy." She says before turning towards Santana. "So we are a couple, huh?" She asks playfully.
"Oh, shut up." Santana groans, pushing Brittany softly, and soon the three of them are gliding and sliding over the ice again.
