3 weeks have passed and Beast Boy was none the wiser about Bruce's vigilante activities. Beast Boy was surprised to learn that Bruce was backing Harvey Dent for mayor, but more so that he wasn't Two Face. It seemed he was never scarred here. He heard that there would be a fundraiser tonight for the campaign of Harvey Dent.
As for Beast Boy himself. He told Bruce about this hologram ring, Cyborg made. Bruce had Lucious to make a similar ring.
So now he looked like he would have, had he not turned green. That included blonde hair and blue eyes. Bruce also had a few papers forged, the story was he was adopted last year, was on a trip through Africa and that his parents were scientists. The last part wasn't a lie. He was also going by his real name, Garfield Logan.
Beast Boy had plans for the day though, he heard there was tons of crime in this city. It was one of the reasons Harvey was running for mayor.
And he was going to help by doing a bit of but kicking. He carried his ring in his pocket.
The people would probably freak out seeing him, heck he heard that the city was divided on Batman. It did not take long to find a crime to stop.
"Take my advice kid, give me your money and you live". A teenage girl had her arms pinned at the wall. "Good girl".
He was about to make a runner but he ended up charged by a green boar. Transforming back to his normal self, the man was shocked.
"I don't know where you came from or what kind of monster you are, just that I'll slice you up for ruining my day". He charged with the knife; Beast Boy put up his fists. He didn't need powers for this. The guy went for a stab, Beast evaded and quickly punched him in the jaw, knocking him unconscious and left him for the police.
He prevented a murder, and left him for the police, foiled 4 different muggings, and a grand theft auto.
After being out for a few more hours it was dark, he was flying back to Wayne Manor, "I'm late, Bruce is going to kill me".
He had to sneak around the back, there would be plenty around the front, he had to put on his hologram ring and put on a suit that Bruce got him for tonight. Personally, he would prefer to stay up here, but Bruce wanted people to know of him, said that people would ask questions if he never made an appearance.
He was rushing and when he got to the stairs, he could see Harvey was already giving a speech.
"Thank you! Thank you everyone! A humble District Attorney like myself is not used to such a ringing endorsement. Even one who cut Gotham's crime rate in half", he said over the microphone.
"For too long, this city has burned with corruption and greed under Mayor Hill's authority… But I promise you a vote for Harvey Dent is a vote to finally put your foot down. Together we can stamp out the fire and save our great city"!
As people gave their applause Beast Boy could see he seemed fine, no half burns on his body, determined to stop crime, that might mean this Harvey can be saved.
"If only Mr. Wayne, my campaign's largest backer, could have heard that applause he would—", Harvey stopped seeing Bruce in the crowd.
"Well, there he is! Fashionable and fashionably late as always. Say hi Bruce".
"Hi Bruce", he said jokingly getting a few chuckles. Beast Boy smirked; he can't tell how many times he himself used that one himself.
"Well, I tee 'em up and he knocks them down. That's how Mr. Wayne and I do business".
People began clapping again.
"Thank you, thank you again, everyone, for your unwavering support. Together we will change Gotham".
Again, people clapped and Beast Boy joined in, however he overdid it with whistling, getting a few people's attention including Harvey.
"Well, well, well, you must be Garfield Logan, Bruce Wayne's new ward, it's great to finally be seeing you in person. Would you like to say anything"?
Noticing eyes were on, it took him a few seconds. "Uhm, vote for Harvey". He got a little embarrassed as people clapped and Harvey laughed.
Harvey went walked down the stairs and over to Bruce, Beast Boy went downstairs himself afterwards, he felt a little out of place, was he meant to speak to people? Bruce said he was too young for a drink.
"Hey lad, you must be Bruce's new boy, Garfield Logan, I heard about you".
"It seems everyone has sir".
"No need with the formality, my name is Oswald Cobblepot".
Did he hear that name before? Probably not.
"Has Bruce spoken of me", he questioned.
"Not to me, but I'm new, I barely know anything about him".
"Our families were close growing up; he was there for me in hard times. We both had to grow up without parents. His shot in front of him, while my dad offed himself and my mum was committed to Arkham".
Beast Boy felt bad for this guy, he knew what it was like to have no parents. The closest he had since was the Doom Patrol and he couldn't tell if Steve actually cared for him.
"Would you like a drink", said Oswald holding out the bottle in his hand.
"I'm underage".
"It seems you're already acting too responsible for your age", said Cobblepot. Him responsible? Now that is something that would make even Raven laugh.
"I gotta go, enjoy the party", he said to Oswald who held out the bottle as his way of saying yes.
Bruce who was walking with Harvey to mingle with the voters, saw Garfield walking over to him, away from, "Oz"? Bruce hasn't seen him in years.
"Mr. Wayne, I'd like to introduce you to—"
Bruce took over himself, "Bob and Regina Zellerbach. Of course, I know these two", he said as he shook Bob's hand.
"Hello Bruce", said Regina as he took her hand.
"Regina here's the chairwomen of Wayne Enterprises and her husband—"
"Voted for Mayor Hill last time", said Bob taking over. "I'll admit it, Mr. Wayne, I don't know Mr. Dent from a pothole on Main Street, but I trust your family. If you believe in Dent, we believe in you. After all, who you support is a reflection on you".
"And we trust someone like you to lead this city to greatness", added Regina.
"Well thank you, but we're all here tonight because we want to make a difference. And that's what it's going to take, every single one of us. Not just me, not just Mr. Dent. Everyone".
Beast decided to back Bruce up. "Yeah, I mean, I can't vote but if I could, I'd vote for Harvey".
Harvey turned to him. "Thank you, Mr. Logan, I'll remember that".
"Garfield Logan, heard about you, everyone's been wanting to see you since Bruce took you in. How do you find it here", Bob asked him.
"Bruce has been great to me, although I hope he doesn't drag me to those boring meeting. Uhm, no offense Regina".
Bruce, Harvey, Bob and Regina chuckled, "I'll try not to", joked Regina.
"I guess I can understand why Bruce took you in, I'm sorry to hear about your parents, forgive me for saying this but I hear that Mark and Marie Logan were well respected scientists, but I never heard of them, I mean Bruce said he was good friends with them".
"They were never into being popular, they just wanted a small quiet life. Then there was the boating accident".
Bruce put his hand on Garfield's shoulder.
"You're a good man Bruce, to take him in, losing his parents, first you, then him", Harvey sympathized.
Regina turned her attention back to Bruce. "After all your parents did for this city… to be killed on a botched robbery in some alleyway… It was terrible. Truly terrible.
Garfield knew well about Bruce's parents, same thing happened here like it did in his world.
"A tragedy like that at such a young age, must have been crippling", said Bob.
"If only that… deranged man… had gotten the right treatment maybe… Well, I don't like to think about 'maybes'. And I'm sure you don't either", Regina said to Bruce.
"Well… thank you. I wish my parents could be here speaking to you too".
"And thank you Bruce, for investing in the health of this city's future", Harvey thanked.
"You have our support, Mr. Dent. Go get em", she told him.
Harvey and Bruce along with Garfield, walked away. "Not saying I doubted you… but that went far better than expected", said Harvey.
"It is a night of raining endorsements".
They stopped in their path and noticed a beautiful woman picking up a glass of champagne".
"Well, hello".
Beast Boy could already tell that he was interested.
"Harvey Dent, Gotham's next mayor and eager to know you".
"Vicki Vale, not interested and reporter for the Gotham Gazette".
"This is a private fundraiser Ms. Vale. No reporters allowed".
Beast Boy wasn't really listening, she wasn't blonde like the Vicki Vale from his world. Suddenly he began thinking of his old world. Were his friends looking for him? And is part of it to make sure he's okay, or full sure he's put behind bars?
He was brought out of his thinking by Bruce and Vicki's bantering. He didn't hear the first part of what they talked about, but he heard Vicki ask Bruce how he felt, saying something about enjoying the party and champaign.
"Well, I'm doing better now that you're here. I'll tell ya if all these stuffed shirts weren't around, I'd give you the private tour".
Beast Boy would give the flirting a B. Vicki was still smiling though so Beast Boy assumed she liked it.
"Mr. Wayne, you've… got something on your caller.
Beast Boy was quick to notice as well, what happened?
"Is that… blood? Yeah… It looks like…
Bruce managed to come up with a story. "Oh this? No. That's nothing. Just cut myself shaving". Beast Boy supposed that made sense.
"What your butler didn't help you this time"?
Beast snickered while Bruce gave Harvey an unamused look.
"Hey kidding, kidding".
Alfred suddenly appeared behind the playboy.
"Do excuse me, Master Bruce, but- Another… guest… has arrived".
Bruce quickly dismissed it. "I'm sure they'll find the bar".
"You may want to greet this one personally, sir", Alfred said bringing Bruce's attention to the new arrivals. It was Carmine Falcone and 3 men with him, his goons no doubt.
"Carmine Falcone? Vicky was suspicious. "Is the Dent Campaign soliciting votes from Gotham's biggest crime family"?
Harley quickly got defensive. "Falcone's never been convicted of anything except being a businessman who loves this city".
"Excuse us, Ms. Vale", Harvey said walking away. Bruce gave her a small smile and shrugged his shoulders before following after.
Beast Boy saw Harvey in front of a table and Bruce following. "And what kind of business do you think he's in? Bruce finished walking and now stood beside Harvey.
"The one that controls enough votes to get me into City Hall", he replied with blunt honesty. "This is the necessary evil of politics, Bruce". Harvey now held a cup in his hand. "It's in the service for a better Gotham, for all of us. Look at least he hear him before you kick him out. Falcone requested to speak with you directly. Maybe he can change your mind".
Bruce still didn't like this. "Jesus Harvey, inviting a known criminal to your fundraiser? Doesn't exactly look good for your squeaky-clean image", he warned as Harvey took a drink.
"Let me worry about that. A word of warning Bruce", he said taking another drink from his cup. "Play nice".
Falcone was talking to his men. "You know, I've been in the market for a new house… Decent walk up, sky-high ceilings, plenty of rooms for my cars… I think I'll take it", he said now looking at the billionaire. Turning his back he continued, though the décor offends my eyes. Oh, man… all flash, no class".
Bruce spoke. "Let's talk privately, shall we"?
Falcone gave a small laugh, "I like this guy. Ready to do business before we even introduce ourselves. But we'll get to that".
"Carmine Falcone". He was holding out his hand. "Thank you for welcoming me into your home".
Beast Boy as well as the guests including Vicky paid notice to the two.
"You're a respectable man, I hear", said Falcone.
"Bruce Wayne", said man said as he reached to shake hands with the mob boss.
"I know who you are. The guy who's gonna sell me his house".
Beast Boy heard guests utter the name Falcone and was wondering if Bruce stuck his head in a hornet's nest by shaking hands.
"Gentlemen, perhaps we'll be more comfortable in the parlor", suggested Alfred. "Follow me, if you will".
Standing for a second Bruce followed after, then Falcone, then Harvey.
Beast Boy saw Harvey being stopped at the door, but after a few seconds went it.
"Wondering what they're talking about"? He turned to see Vicky beside him.
He gave a reply. "It's probably politics and nothing else".
Vicky still had a suspicious look, but put on a kind smile. "So, you must be the ward of Bruce Wayne, how does that feel"?
Beast Boy seemed hesitant to answer. "It's off the record, I already assured Mr. Wayne that nothing would be written down tonight".
"Well Bruce has been good to me so far, making sure I'm well looked after, eating my vegetables, you know that sort of thing".
"How kind of him, the man always thinks of other people besides himself. Of course, you only been here recently, I suppose you don't know the man well enough yet".
He gave a shrug. "I guess, but look at what he's doing, funding Harvey's campaign, building a new mental health place, he wants to make Gotham a better place".
"I suppose, but shaking hands with a man like Falcone, it makes you wonder if there's a side he's hiding".
"Bruce is probably just being safe; he wouldn't want to offend a man like Falcone if he really is that dangerous".
"I suppose, but given his name, he should set a better example".
Guests were beginning to head out the door, Vicky seeing as the party was ending, knew that was her cue to leave. "It seems people are leaving; I should probably head too. If you ever need someone to talk to, just let me know".
Beast Boy watched her leave along with the others. Alfred was now heading towards the door where Bruce, Harvey and Falcone were in.
Walking inside to be blocked by one of Falcone's goons, looking in Bruce's direction. "Master Bruce. Your guests are leaving. I recommend seeing them out. You wouldn't want to be rude".
"Hey I appreciate the hospitality, mister Wayne. But I, uh. I don't think I'll put an offer on the house. A nice guy like you should have a nice place to live. I'll be seeing ya Bruce, while this city's still standing".
