(A/N) A quick FYI, I am going to leave that poll I mentioned up until I at least finish LLL 3, and then I will decide with whatever the poll ends with regarding going ahead with Legends 3-7, or going with "Legends : Moments" after the completion of the story
Waverider: Temperal Zone:
Peter sighed as he walked into the kitchen area and saw that Nate was already up and eating some bacon.
"So there's this theory that the phrase "bring home the bacon" started in a town in Old England. Bacon was awarded to any man who can truthfully say he and his wife had not argued that past year." Nate informed him.
"Really?" Peter asked in surprise. "I just assumed it was some sort of metaphor for money." That was when he turned and froze when he looked up. "Amaya."
"Amaya? What about her?" Nate wonders.
"Well, for one, she is on the ceiling," Peter gestured above him.
Nate was confused when he looked up and saw that Amaya was summoning the powers of a spider on the ceiling. He
"I had a nightmare like this once," Peter admitted. "Of course, it was me who had six limbs, and not our former teammate."
"She's having a dream she's a spider," Nate said in shock. "We gotta wake her up before she crawls into the engine. Amaya!"
"Wait, you're not supposed to wake a sleepwalker, especially when they're stuck to the ceiling," Peter stated. "Trust me, my aunt made me do that a few dozen times. Not fun."
"Why not? Amaya!" Nate called.
Amaya woke up and ended up falling and landing on the table.
"That's why," Peter said.
"Are you okay?" Nate asked Amaya.
"I- I was I was having a nightmare," Amaya explained.
"And in the process, summoned the ashe of a spider," Peter mentioned to the ceiling. "That isn't going to be creepy."
"Pete! Not helpful!" Nate whispered.
"No, Nate, he's right," Amaya assured he was right. "What if I summoned a rhino and I crashed through the hull of the ship? Or a lion and I mauled someone?"
"Well, if the victim was Mr. Rory, I can imagine-" Gideon was saying when Nate stopped her.
"It's gonna be okay." Nate assured her. "We're gonna figure out what's going on with you and your totem."
"What do you think I've been trying to do for the past six months?" Amaya asked him. "It's a mystical totem."
"I believe we should start in the med bay," Peter stated, gesturing off to the med bay. "Away from the food."
"Code 99. This is Agent Gary Green. Seattle, Washington, 2042. I just witnessed a female meta of unknown origin. She killed everyone." Gary's voice filled the common area on a tablet.
"Hey. What's going on?" Ray asked as he and Felicia entered the room.
"We intercepted a distress call from one of Rip's Time Bureau agents," Lane explained as he gestured to the screen.
"Why? Actually, forget it. I don't care." Mick stated.
"It's the dweeby one, Gary," Lane added. "The one from the circus."
"Still don't care," Mick said. "Hopefully that little time dweeb learns his lesson."
"Agreed, but last time I checked, we help people who are in trouble." Sara reminded them.
"I don't." Mick scoffed as he took a drink.
"Well, we're heading out," Lane said. "Gideon? Set course."
Seattle, Washington, 2042:
The streets were empty and filled with trash. The streets were filled with vehicles, as well as drones flying around. The team snuck their way around to try and keep themselves hidden. They made their way underneath a subway just as a vehicle passed.
"Something feels off about this place," Lane said in concern as he kept a hand on his holster with his blaster. "Like... I got that bad feel again."
"Have to agree, where is everybody?" Ray wonders.
"Martial law." Mick recognized it. "It's a police state."
"How do you know?" Peter wonders.
"I can smell pigs." Mick scoffed.
"He's right," Sara said as they kept moving. "All the cars on the street are military."
That was when a vehicle came in. "More pigs! Get down! Get down!"
They watched the truck pass and saw the logo and name branded on the side. "That's A.R.G.U.S. covert paramilitary organization." Ray recognized.
"Yeah, well it seems they've forgotten how to be covert." Felicia scoffed.
"The signal we intercepted came from over there," Ray said as they followed the tracker. "Should be here somewhere." "Gary! Gary! Gary!"
That was when they heard bottles tussling and looked over to see Gary peeking out of the trash. "Ooh, no, no, no, no, no, no." He said in terror when he saw them. "She's gonna kill me."
"The meta from your distress call?" Lane asks.
"Agent Sharpe," Gary stated. "She hates you guys."
"Well, the feeling's mutual," Sara replied.
"Look, you said there was a female meta killing everyone." Ray reminded him. "What's going on?"
"No, this is classified Time Bureau business." Gary refused to share.
"That's fine." Lane shrugged. "Mick?"
Mick snarled as he approached Gary to intimidate him. "Open your mouth and say some words."
"Guess you're gonna have to decide who you're more afraid of, Agent Sharpe or Mick here," Sara told him.
"Uh... the Bureau got a ping on some unregulated time travel." Gary began to sing. "But when I got here, the person I was supposed to arrest-"
"Was a meta-human who had no problem murdering people?" Sara guessed.
"Her powers let her control water," Gary informed them.
"Like Avatar?" Peter asked, getting an odd look from Felicia. "What?"
"A human squirt gun." Mick scoffed. "Big deal."
"No, you guys really have no idea how dangerous this woman is," Gary told them.
They watched some footage from the security detail on the Waverider that the Metahuman attacked. They saw as she killed the two guards and went for their prisoner.
"Dweeb's right." Mick admired. "That chick's dangerous. She just blew through those pigs like it was nothing."
"Mick, no falling for the genocidal maniac," Peter said playfully.
"Actually, I fought someone with water powers like this a few years ago," Ray told them. "It was not very pleasant.
"Well, why would a time-traveling meta-human come to 2042 to kill a bunch of A.R.G.U.S. agents?" Peter asks."
She didn't." Felicia could tell. "She came here to kill their prisoner."
"Well, it looks like she struck out," Lane said as they saw the prisoner escape.
"Something tells me our assassin doesn't give up so easily," Sara said.
"You got a plan, Captain?" Lane wonders.
"Why? We saved Four-eyes." Mick said. "Mission accomplished."
"And Four-Eyes' mission was to prevent the anachronism," Gary stated.
"You mean to stop the water witch before she kills whoever was in the back of that truck?" Felicia asks.
"Gideon, scan A.R.G.U.S.' logs," Sara asked their AI. "See if you can ID the prisoner."
"I can do better than that, Captain," Gideon reported. "I can project the prisoner's most likely destination."
Sara was impressed. "Even better."
Who they were looking for was back at her hideout as they were preparing to run. As they were packing, Ray, Lane, Sara, and Peter approached her from behind.
"Zari Tomaz?" Sara called, seeing she turned to confirm it was her.
"Come with us if you want to live," Peter said.
"Come on, let's get out of here," Mick said, gesturing for them to leave.
"Yeah, I don't know who you are or what you're doing, but you're gonna lead A.R.G.U.S. right here," Zari told them, pulling out a tablet.
"No, don't worry. We can protect you." Ray promised.
"Who's gonna protect you?" Zari asks.
That was when a drone flew in. "This is A.R.G.U.S. Sara Lance, Peter Parker, Raymond Palmer, and Mick Rory, you are listed in the Meta-human Registry as missing. You are hereby under arrest for violating the Anti-Meta-human Act."
"A drone?" Peter asked with a scoff. He shot out a web to try and stop it, but the drone revealed to have some sort of force field. "Well, that's all I've got."
"Anti-Meta-human?" Ray asks.
"Yeah, meta-humans have been illegal since 2021," Zari said as she stepped ahead, pulling out some sort of device she used to hack the drone. "Didn't you guys get the memo?"
"No. been away for a while." Peter joked.
"Well, nice to meet you," Zari said as she walked ahead, the drone now ignoring her. "I'm out."
"Wait, your life is still in danger!" Ray said, taking a step that caused the drone to shoot.
"Remain where you are."
"Ditto," Zari said as she left. "Bye."
"Detainment units have been notified."
"Hate to destroy futuristic technology, but..." Ray was saying when Lane drew his blaster and shot it down.
"Palpatine had tech like this once. I blew up the facility creating it." Lane scoffed.
That was when A.R.G.U.S. Agents came into the room, racing in with their guns raised.
"Stand down!"
"Go! Go!
"You are surrounded."
"Under the Meta-human Act of 2021, you are under arrest."
"On the ground! Hands behind your head! Final warning!"
Sara let out a weary sigh as she glanced around, noting the overwhelming odds stacked against them. With a defeated expression, she raised her hands in a gesture of surrender. "Do as they say," she urged, her voice steady yet strained.
Mick scoffed, disbelief etched across his face. "You gotta be kidding me," he muttered, the adrenaline of battle still coursing through his veins as he readied to strike.
"That's an order," Sara asserted, her tone brooking no argument. Reluctantly, Mick lowered his weapon, and one by one, Peter and Ray followed suit, glancing nervously at their leader.
Just then, an ominous whirring sound sliced through the tense atmosphere, reminiscent of a jet engine's roar reverberating ominously in the air. "Is that another drone?" Ray asked incredulously, his eyes darting skyward.
Before anyone could respond, an explosive crash shattered the glass ceiling above, sending shards raining down like glittering daggers. A figure descended gracefully, landing on one knee with the poise of a warrior. Long, flowing brown hair cascaded over her shoulders, dancing in the remnants of fallen glass. She was clad in an intricate harness, from which sleek wings extended like a majestic bird ready to take flight, draping her arms like a protective cloak. An electric energy filled the air as she rose, exuding a presence that demanded attention and respect.
"It's Durrand!"
The figure called Durrand used the thruster of her pack to shoot herself off the ground she then tackled the man. Sara then reached and grabbed the agent with the gun as she flipped him over her head. Peter then reacted as he crossed his arms, shooting two webs that allowed him to leap and smack the two of them into one another. The girl with the wings activated them again as she then swiped her wings to cause the agent to slip and hit the ground. Mick punched one of them and got back up and tried to get an opening to shoot them with his heat gun. Sara leaned over and tackled another one as the girl with the wings saw they were going to open fire and quickly shielded Sara as the guns opened fire. Ray got up and shot them with a blast to knock them out, causing Mick to groan.
"What?" Sara asks.
"I wanted to shoot someone," Mick explained why he was frustrated.
Sara then looked at the girl with wings. "Thanks for the help. Who are you?"
The girl laughed under her mouth mask. "Did I change that much?" She then reached up and removed her goggles and mouth mask as she revealed her face, thinking that would be enough. "Hey, Pete."
"Do... am I supposed to know you?" Peter asks.
"I'm Teresa Durrand," Teresa stated, getting them shocked as they recognized the name. "I'm your sister."
Waverider:
Returning to the Waverider with Teresa was a shocking experience for the team as they saw that Teresa was a fully grown woman, which made sense considering she was about a year or two the last time they saw her, and here she was a fully grown woman.
"Wait... you are Peter's sister?" Lane tried to wrap his head around this. "Teresa?"
"Yeah," Teresa said as she looked around the ship. "It's been a long time since I've seen you guys, but I guess time works differently for everyone." She caressed the ship and chuckled. "Nice to see that this place hasn't changed."
"Changed?" Peter asks.
"I guess it hasn't happened in your time yet," Teresa said.
"So, how did you know about us being there?" Ray was curious to know.
"Well, I was actually looking for Zari," Teresa explained. "She's a friend."
"She is?" Peter asks.
"I've been smuggling Metahumans out of the city for the last ten years," Teresa explained to them. "I joined A.R.G.U.S. to help people, like my brother. But when I saw what A.R.G.U.S. was doing to people, to metahumans. I wouldn't stand it, and they branded me a traitor. I ran and stole some of their tech as they chased me out. Been fighting them off from harassing innocent civilians just trying to live daily lives ever since the ridiculous laws were put into place."
"And Durrand?" Sara was interested in the new last name she gave herself.
"Peter Parker is known as Spider-Man in 2042 since it became clear to people and after the government figured it out, they targeted our family. Mom and Dad are still in hiding, deep underground, it's been a moment since I've seen them, but I made an oath to protect people even at putting my own life on the line." Teresa explained everything to them. "I was trying to get Zari and her family out of the city to meet up with some people they were supposed to meet with, but..."
"A.R.G.U.S. found you first?" Felicia guessed.
"They tracked my jets, I had to go underground for a while. Zari and her family were left to fend for themselves," Teresa confirmed what they guessed. "I was on my way to save Zari when I heard a drone pick you guys up and was excited to see you all again."
"I don't really get A.R.G.U.S.," Ray said. "In 2016, they weren't-"
"Idiots." Mick scoffed.
"Well, I was gonna say they weren't trying to control the city with killer drones, but..." Ray shrugged.
Any authoritarian organization always goes bad... always." Sara stated, eyeing Gary who has been silent this whole time.
"Which means it's only a matter of time before Rip and his Time Bureau turn into the Time Empire," Lane agreed with Sara's point.
"In case you've forgotten, the Time Bureau only exists to clean up your time mess," Gary stated.
"The mess we caused to save the universe," Peter retorted.
"Well, that mess now includes an at-large time-assassin and a fugitive hacker!" Gary stated.
"Is that your way of thanking us for rescuing you?" Sara asked with a sigh. "Gideon, do we have a location on Zari yet?"
"Negative, Captain," Gideon said. "I'm afraid Ms. Tomaz has stepped up her efforts to remain undetected."
"Damn, I can see why," Peter said as he saw her crimes. "Burglary, larceny, grand larceny, identity theft, trespassing, digital trespassing, meta-human smuggling, conspiracy..."
"Making me feel bad about myself," Felicia said.
"Impressive," Mick said.
"Multiple religious infractions?" Peter asks.
"What do you mean?" Amaya wonders.
"Zari's Muslim." Lane saw the list. "And apparently religion is illegal in 2042."
"Rory, if you had this much heat on you, where would you go?" Sara wonders.
Mick had one idea.
They went to the bar where Mick would usually hang out and saw that the place had been given a retro makeover, which didn't please him at all.
"My bar. What have they done to my bar?" Mick asked in shock.
Ray walked in and was wearing an eyepatch and a goatee, "Too much, Ray, too much." Felicia told him.
"What? I look like I just robbed a bank." Ray said.
"Or a costume store." Peter scoffed.
"It always like this?" Teresa asks.
"Always," Lane said.
Mick pointed to the bar where they saw Zari. "There she is." He then approached her and sat next to her. "You run, scream, or sic one of those drones on us, I'll light you up." You got that, missy?"
"Are you guys stalking me?" Zari asks.
"Not me, but for some reason, my boss has a bee in her bonnet about protecting you from that, uh, water bitch." Mick said as he was handed a drink. "Not you, sweetheart."
"Yeah, I can take care of myself," Zari stated.
"Is that right?" Mick asks. "That's why you're in this bar? Looking to hire muscle?"
Ray then approached the others. "Look, you can trust us, okay? We're the good guys." He then removed the disguise. "Oh, don't be fooled by our disguises. Good guy!"
Zari then saw Teresa. "You?!" She asked as she saw her. "Where were you?"
"Being hunted," Teresa explained with a sigh. "I tried to get to your family, but A.R.G.U.S. was on me, and I knew it would be better to go into hiding than lead them to you."
"Well, that didn't..." Zari was snarky replying when she looked to the doorway. "It's her."
Everyone looked over to the doorway and saw the water that was standing in the main doorway.
"Let's get out of here," Mick said to Zari. "Come on." But they were heading out, and their water Metahuman basically teleported across the room and landed in front of them. "Oh, a pool party."
"Cute tricks," Sara said, grabbing a pool stick and snapping it, then beginning to fight her off.
Sara tried land a hit, but with her being made out of water, it didn't harm her as much. Teresa stepped in, using her jetpack thruster to cause the water Metahuman to boil and turn to her human form. Peter quickly shot out a web to cocoon her to keep her from escaping. But then she leaked out from the webbing and reformed into her human shape.
"Get her to the ship!" Sara tells Mick.
"You guys have a ship?" Zari asked as they led her out. "Is it a big ship?"
How about a diversion, Rory?" Sara asks.
Mick followed swiftly as he grabbed beer bottles and smacked them against the head of one of the tenants. "Who wants to fight?!"
That started an all-out brawl that kept the Water Metahuman from following after them. With her distracted, Sara leads Teresa and Mick out of the building.
"Okay, this is almost amazing," Zari said as they entered the Waverider and she looked around.
"What do you mean, "almost"?" Lane was offended. "Don't go insulting my ship."
"Ignore him, he's sensitive about his Captain and crew," Peter explained to Zari.
"Don't worry," Ray told her. "You'll be safe here."
"Who's the woman that's after you?" Sara asks.
"No idea," Zari said, looking over the ship.
"Any idea of why someone would want to kill you?" Felicia asks.
"Yeah, I can think of quite a few, actually," Zari muttered.
"Look, if we're gonna help you, you need to start being more straightforward," Sara said as Gary entered.
"What is she doing here?" Gary asks.
"Uh, water woman was trying to kill her, so we're, um, protecting her," Ray explained.
Gary rushed over and shielded Zari from seeing the controls. "No, this is technology you are not allowed to see. Civilians are not allowed to know about time travel."
That got the Legends to scoff and Zari to look shocked. "Wait, you guys are time travelers?"
"Nice one, Gary." Lane scoffed. "We should have let me stun him when we had the chance."
"Okay, that's on me," Gary said. "Uh, b-but still, our job is to prevent the anachronism, which means capturing the assassin, not the target."
"I can't believe... You guys are time-traveling superheroes?" Zari said.
"They are, I'm just associated with them," Teresa said.
"Yeah, we've actually saved the world twice," Ray said. "And the multiverse twice. Not that we're counting."
"Really? You saved the world." Zari clarified.
"Twice!" Ray said.
"Then why does it still suck?" Zari wonders.
"Uh, just for the record, dealing with that messed-up police state of yours, that's on our to-do list, so..." Lane told Zari.
"But after we capture the person trying to kill you," Peter stated.
"And we need your help to do it," Sara said.
"Oh, I get it." Zari was following. "Since you have no way of tracking this water psycho, you plan to use me as bait, right?"
"Right," Mick confirmed.
"Okay, I'll help you, on one condition," Zari said. "You help me break my brother out of the A.R.G.U.S. facility where they're holding him."
"Prison break," Mick commented. "I'm in."
"I'm on board," Teresa agreed.
"No, no. No, no, no, no, no, they're not helping you, because they're still helping me." Gary stated. "Guys, this mission has gone way off the rails as it is. Zari's brother is not the priority."
"If you really want my help, then that's my price," Zari said.
Everyone looked at one another and lightly nodded. They were not going to stand by while A.R.G.U.S. was arresting people just for being different.
"Guess we're breaking into an A.R.G.U.S. prison," Sara said.
Nate and Amaya were doing some sort of meditation test, trying to figure out what was wrong with her amulet, so they weren't available. Sneaking into the facility, Mick opened a doorway and aimed his gun at some guards, ready to fire.
"Rory, don't," Sara warned him.
"Just a little." Mick pleaded.
"Maybe later," Sara promised as they headed down the hallway. "Which way?"
"My brother's in the east wing annex," Zari said.
"The blueprints Gideon downloaded said the control panel's this way." Ray gestured down the hall.
"You guys open the cell." Sara told Peter, Felicia, and Teresa. "Let's go talk to your brother."
"Now," Mick said, seeing a guard.
Sara quickly lowered his gun and walked forward. "Hey! How's it going?"
"There's no maintenance scheduled here till tomorrow." The guard said.
"Really? We got a call that, uh, something was broken." Sara quickly lied.
"Yeah? What?"
"Your nose," Sara stated, punching him in the face.
Zari rushed over and checked the computer. "Says here my brother's being held in cell 4587."
"You guys got a location on the other security console?" Sara asked.
Teresa stunned the remaining guard as he fell over. "Yep, all clear."
"I could not be more proud of you," Peter told Teresa.
"All right, which cell do we need to open?" Teresa asked, using her backdoor network to get into the "system.
"It's room 4587."
"Okay, I'm on it," Teresa said.
"Wait a minute." Peter looked over to the computer screen and saw the footage of A.R.G.U.S. experiments. "You mean everybody locked up in here is a meta?"
"Yeah." Teresa was sorry to say. "A.R.G.U.S. is conducting experiments on them.
"Guys, open the cell now."
"I can do a lot better than that," Peter said as he walked over and unlocked all of the cells.
Sara was caught in the chaos of Metahumans escaping as they rushed towards the exits. Peter, Felicia, and Teresa rushed over towards Sara and the others.
"I thought you were just gonna open her brother's cell," Sara said.
"You didn't see what we saw on the monitors," Peter stated. "A.R.G.U.S. is experimenting on these prisoners."
"We couldn't just let it happen," Felicia stated.
"Hey, where's Zari?" Teresa wonders.
Searching down the halls, they found Zari with some sort of necklace.
"What the hell is going on?" Sara asks. "I thought this was just about grabbing your brother."
"Yeah, about that... sorry," Zari said.
"Sorry for what?" Sara asks.
"There is no brother. There is no prison break. It's a heist." Mick came to realize.
"You used us." Sara snarled. "We bent over backward to help you."
"Huh, so that's how it feels," Felicia said to herself.
"As lies go, this was a pretty white one," Zari said. "This used to be my brother's. Now it's mine."
Touching the necklace, it started to glow red, blinding everyone as she rushed off while they couldn't see.
"We gotta get out of here!" Peter said, pushing everyone to the exit.
"Oh, man!" They cried, seeing there were armed guards.
"Knock yourself out," Sara told Mick.
"'Bout time!" Mick cried, shooting flames to block the guards.
"Uh, Nate, buddy? We need you to bring the Waverider to us now." Ray called into the comms.
Exiting outside of the facility, they found Zari placing the necklace around her neck.
"That's enough, Zari!" Sara told her. "You're not going anywhere without us."
"Is that right?" Zari asks.
Then she quickly shot off with wind swirling around her before taking off into the sky.
"That's a cool getaway." Mick complimented.
"Don't worry," Ray said as he took off flying. "I'll follow her."
"I'm with him," Teresa said, flying off to follow Zari.
"Where's Pretty?" Mick wonders.
"Nate, how are we doing with that rescue mission?" Lane wonders.
I'm givin' her all she's got, Cap'n! The ship can't take much more of this!" Nate cried.
"Actually, Dr. Heywood, the engines are still idling."
"Then why does it feel like my face is peeling off?" Nate wonders.
"Nate, are you high or something?" Peter wonders.
"You have no idea," Nate stated.
"Gideon, take command of the ship." Peter sighed as he walked off. "I'll find us a rendezvous point."
"Let's get out of here." Mick sighed.
Entering the Waverider, everyone was angered by the mission. They went out of their way to help someone, and they used them.
"Where's Amaya anyway?" Peter wonders.
"In the medbay," Gideon reported. "I believe Ms. Giwe seems to be experiencing a, well, unusual side effect. And as for Mr. Heywood, he's in..."
"We got bigger fish to fry," Sara said. "Ray, you and Teresa have eyes on Zari?"
Yep, we're on her tail." Teresa said.
"Not literally," Ray stated. "I'm following her posterior from a respectable distance."
"I can't believe she played us like that," Felicia said.
"The whole sob story about her brother, just an excuse to get her hands on some magical necklace." Lane scoffed.
"When we find that chick, I am gonna kill her," Sara promised.
"I like her," Mick admitted.
"You would," Peter chuckled.
Gary rushed ahead to stop Sara. "Uh, when you say kill her, what you really mean is-"
"Kill her. And slowly." Sara repeated.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, we have to restore the timeline, which means getting Ms. Tomaz back to the A.R.G.U.S. black site where she belongs and tracking down your time assassin. Oh, and cleaning up the prison debacle!" Gary recapped their mess.
"Don't worry, Gary. We got this." Sara promised as they kept walking.
"Jeez Louise, this disaster keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger." Gary recapped.
Peter walked up to Sara as they looked at the A.R.G.U.S. blueprints they memorized before heading out and sighed. She shut off the screen as Peter entered.
"What are you doing?" Peter wonders.
"Well, I hate to say it, but Gary's right." Sara sighed. "We gotta put Zari back in the bottle."
"Look, she's not exactly my favorite person either right now. But you didn't see how it was back there." Peter told her with a sigh. "The way A.R.G.U.S. was treating those people?"
"She played us, Jax. We're lucky that it's not us in that prison instead." Sara stated.
"She had a water witch travel through time to hunt her down." Peter reminded Sara. "We've done some stupid stuff to accomplish our goals before. I mean, did Zari really act any differently than you would've in that situation? I'm just saying, do we really want to be the people who put her back in a meta prison, like what Jax said was going on in the FRAMEWORK? Is that who we are?"
That was when Nate came running inside the office, covering his eyes with his hand. "I can see through my hand."
Sara walked over and moved his hand to see his eyes. "Are you on drugs?"
"Your face," Nate whispered, reaching out to touch her. "I wanna squish your face."
"Okay, Nate." Peter rushed over to stop him. "Gideon, what's up with our historian?"
"As I was trying to tell you, Mr. Heywood is under the influence of a hallucinogenic compound," Gideon explained, getting only more questions.
"To help Amaya with her totem problem," Nate explained. "Okay? It's totally safe. People in her village do it all the ti-" He then gasped and spun around, only to see nothing. "It's safe, I think."
"As for Ms. Giwe, Mr. Lane helped her to the medical bay," Gideon said.
"Get him to his quarters now! Give him some water and... maybe his fidget spinner." Sara shrugged as they walked in separate directions.
"Told you, buddy, let's go," Peter said, leading Nate off to his room.
Zari was standing over the ruins of what looked to be some sort of residential camp. Ray and Teresa flew down and approached her in a friendly stance.
"Look, I don't want to fight, but we gotta go," Ray warned her.
"He's right. We can't stay here." Teresa said. "It's not safe."
"I don't understand," Zari said in sorrow. "They're not here. Nobody's here. They were supposed to meet me here. This was supposed to be our Jannah."
"Jannah? " Ray questioned.
"It means "sanctuary" in Arabic," Zari explained as she held the amulet. "My brother had powers because he wielded this. He fought against A.R.G.U.S.'s injustices, so he was hunted. We all were. The night we were leaving, waiting for her to come for us, A.R.G.U.S. raided our house." She explained, looking at Teresa. "Killed my brother and took the only part that's left of him."
"And that's how you got caught," Ray followed. "Trying to steal it the first time?"
"Yeah, I couldn't let A.R.G.U.S. keep it," Zari explained. "With my brother gone, I needed its power to help me protect my parents, but..."
"Maybe they got away." Ray looked on the bright side.
" Where? Can't you see there's nowhere left to go? This was our last hope." Zari stated in sorrow.
"Zari, I'm sorry about everything that's happened to your family, but we really have to go before..." Teresa heard water flowing and turned to see the water form into the shape of the woman. "Oh, boy..."
"Sara, the water woman just showed up, and she looks pretty grumpy," Ray warned the team. "Like "kill anyone that gets in her way" grumpy."
"Send us your coordinates," Sara said. "We're on our way."
That was when an alert went off, getting everyone to rush into the main room.
"What's going on now?" Felicia asks.
"Unidentified ship approaching, Captain" Gideon warns them.
"A.R.G.U.S.?" Sara asks.
"No, Captain," Gideon said as a ginormous Time Ship floated above the Waverider. "It's the Time Bureau."
"I don't understand. How does the Time Bureau know where we were?" Lane asks.
Then it took them only a second to realize what happened as they faced Gary. "Gary!"
"I'm sorry. I know you said you could handle it, but you guys can't handle anything! I should go." Gary quickly opened a portal to run to the other ship.
That was when Ava appeared on their screens. "Sara Lance. I see that you and your team have managed to get yourselves in over your heads again."
"Chill, lady." Mick scoffed.
"We were just trying to help." Lane snarled, ready to draw his blaster. "Can I kill her yet?"
"I'm warming up to the idea," Peter sighed.
"By starting a prison riot at the A.R.G.U.S. facility?" Ava asks. "When are you going to learn that the Legends should not be interfering with Bureau affairs?"
"Maybe when you stop screwing things up," Sara stated.
"Uh, perhaps it's best not to antagonize someone with the scary ship, looming over our starboard," Felicia said.
"Nah, I've done worse to far scarier than this woman," Lane stated.
"I don't care what Gary says. We don't need backup." Sara said.
"Sara! I need backup! Sara! Where are you guys?" Ray called while Tersa was opening fire on the water lady.
"I'm running low on rounds, and this girl won't stop!" Teresa warns them
"Interesting," Ava said. "It sounds like one of your team members has stumbled sideways into finding our assassin."
"Yeah, stumbling into situations is our style." Lane quipped.
"Just give us his coordinates," Ava said. "We would be happy to save him for you."
"You know these guys are just gonna hand Zari back to those A.R.G.U.S. bastards, who are gonna do God knows what to her," Peter warned the team.
"And if you don't comply, we would also be happy to scatter you all into space," Ava warned, opening fire on their ship, sending them all shaking around, and sparks to fly.
"Did you just shoot at us!?" Sara asks.
"Oh, now I am pissed!" Lane cried, drawing his blaster. "Let me at them!"
"Chill, space cowboy," Peter said. "But I share your anger."
"I am not screwing around," Ava demanded. "Give us those coordinates. The next one will not be a warning, Ms. Lance."
"I knew we shouldn't have trusted that time dweeb." Mick scoffed.
"Fine." Sara finally gave in to protect her crew. "I'll uplink their coordinates to you now."
"You gotta be kidding me." Peter sighed.
Sara walked over to the Captain's chair and sighed. "Ready?"
"Ready to receive," Gary said.
But that was when Sara spun around and blasted off into the Temperal Zone to escape.
Teresa opened fire several more times, watching as her rounds only entered the water lady and floated before falling out of her like they were nothing. Ray then gave her a hand, raising his gauntlet and shooting, sending her into a puddle.
"That was easier than I thought it'd be," Ray said.
Teresa groaned and smacked her head. "WHY!?"
That was when the water lady came up behind them and wrapped her arms around their heads, causing them to begin to suffocate on her water. Zari quickly tried to use her powers, shooting a blast of wind to send the water woman flying.
"Is this what you're looking for?" Zari asks.
"So you do have it." She said, getting back up. "But are you capable of using it in a fight?"
"What are you offering for the totem?" Zari asked, beginning to circle the water lady as the others recovered.
"I can give you what you really want, Zari." She promises. "What you want more than that little trinket. I can give you revenge. Revenge on A.R.G.U.S. They targeted you and your family. Turned you all into fugitives and criminals. They should die."
"In exchange for your help, I give you this?"
"You can't control this power. It wasn't meant for you. I can free you from this burden and help you get justice for your family."
Sara flew through the Temeral Zone the fast as the Waverider could go while the rest of the crew rushed over to take their seats.
"Maybe picking a fight with the Time Bureau wasn't the best strategy," Felicia said as she ran over and took her seat.
"Yep, well, they fired on us first." Peter retorted.
"Look at you, really growing, aren't ya?" Felicia asks.
"I'm on the side of not imprisoning the innocent," Peter stated.
"And if they continue to fire on us, we will sustain critical damage in less than five minutes," Gideon warned them. They were then hit again. "Four minutes."
Zari considered her options and finally made up her mind. "Well? I-I guess I have to say... Sorry."
Zari used the amulet again, sending her flying but she created a shield with her water to stop it from hitting her.
"Come on, Ray." Teresa gagged as she helped him up. "She's too much for us."
"She's right," Zari said as they all stood up. "We gotta move."
Ray gagged the water up and spat it. "And she tastes terrible!"
Amaya was awakened as she rushed into the control room and saw what was going on. "What's happening?"
"Time pukes are shooting at us." Mick caught her up.
"At least you seem to be feeling better, Ms. Ziwe," Gideon replied.
"Yeah, Nathaniel's plan, while ill-advised, was beneficial," Amaya said.
"Quiet! The marshmallows are talking." Nate screamed as he ran into the room.
"I should have locked the door," Peter sighed.
"Get to the jump ship!" Sara tells them. "Get a fix on Ray's position while Felicia and I keep our Time Bureau friends busy." Nate went to follow after them when Sara stopped him. "Not you, space ranger. Sit!"
Nate complied as he and Felicia sat aside from one another. "Whoa," Nate said in awe. "I really love this show."
"Gideon, status," Sara said.
"The jump ship has been deployed," Gideon said. "I don't believe our pursuers noticed."
That was when they were shot at again. "Oh, dear! I'm afraid our rear deflectors have been completely lost, Captain."
"Sara, please. We still have enough time to arrange a compromise with the Time Bureau. I am too pretty to be blown to smithereens." Felicia begged a little, becoming afraid of their plan.
"Sorry, Felicia, I don't compromise," Sara stated.
"Can you try and at least speak up?" Felicia asks Nate.
"I like broccoli!" Nate cried.
Felicia sighed. 'Why did I expect anything more?"
"Gideon, divert everything to our forward shields," Sara said as she began to do something. "You guys might want to hold on." She spun the Waverider around at full speed, sending it flying right at the Time Beuru ship. "Gideon, hail the Time Bureau."
Ava came onto the screen, confused about what they were doing with them coming full speed towards their ship. "What are you doing?"
"Being true to who we are." Sara was indeed following what Peter said. "My team doesn't roll over on their own."
"Zari Tomaz is not one of your own," Ava said.
"Either way, we're not gonna let you, A.R.G.U.S., or anyone else put her behind bars for who she is." Sara proclaimed, going full throttle with the Waverider.
"So you'd rather kill your team and mine?" Ava asks.
"Collision in ten seconds, Captain," Gideon warns her.
"Last chance, Ms. Lance!" Ava warned but saw that they weren't moving. "Sara, this is madness! Change your course!"
"I'm good."
"Impact in three, two, one."
Before they made contact with the Time Ship, Ava, and Gary jumped and escaped at the last possible second.
"Are we dead? Did- did we die?" Nate asks.
"The Time Bureau vessel jumped away," Gideon said.
"Gideon, make sure they're not following us," Sara told their AI. "You all right, Cat?"
"I think I still have all nine lives still intact," Felicia sighed. "Even though I think one jumped ship."
"You know what will make you feel better?" Nate asked as he stood up. "A cup of tea!" He then stood up pat Felicia and rushed off. "One cup of Lyoga root tea for the kitty-cat coming up, 'cause you're my best friend!"
"What made you change your mind?" Teresa asked as they rushed to escape.
"Thought about what my brother would want me to do," Zari said as they ran into a clearing just for the water witch to appear. "Weren't your friends supposed to be coming to rescue us?"
"Good point," Ray said.
"You had your chance." She told Zari, preparing to finish them off. "I was willing to offer you a compromise. But now I have to kill you."
"I'm afraid we can't let you do that!" Peter cried, swinging in and shooting repulsor blasts from the Iron Spider as he landed in front of the three, putting himself between them and the water witch. Everyone else marched out of the bushes and aimed their weapons.
"If anyone's gonna kill Haircut, it's me, lady," Mick promises, raising his firegun.
"Aw, thanks, Mick," Ray said.
"Pleasure," Mick replied.
"You think you could stop me?" She wonders.
That was when Amaya took the lead as she stepped forward, touching her amulet and allowing its powers to command her. She used her skills to then block a strike from the water witch as she marched forward.
"How?"
Amaya then used an elephant to send her flying and smack her into the rubble. "Stay down. I can do this all day."
"I would kill you." She said, pulling out some sort of stone. "But I'd just be killing myself." And with that, she vanished into the night.
"That was weird," Peter said.
"All right, Gideon." Sara sighed as she saw they were all safe. "How are we doing?"
"Our time jump from Jannah remained undetected, Captain. I think we can safely say our Time Bureau problem is... Oh, bollocks." Gideon sighed. "Perhaps I spoke too soon."
"What is it?" Sara asks.
"Incoming transmission from Agent Sharpe," Gideon said.
Sara sighed. "Put her on." She then saw Ava appear on their screens. "Oh, hey, Ava. How was your day?"
"You do realize that that little stunt of yours could've destroyed us both," Ava said.
"You tried to kill us first." Sara reminded her. "Fair is fair."
"No, I tried to warn you first. But you don't take warnings, do you?"
"Now you're starting to get it."
"Well, this isn't a warning. It's a promise. If I ever track you down again, you and your band of idiots will be exiled to the dawn of time. Whatever leniency Hunter gave you is over." And with that, she shut off the connection.
"What a bitch." Gideon scoffed.
"You took the words right out of my mouth, Gideon," Sara said as she walked off. "Plot a course to 2042."
2042:
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, Peter strolled alongside Teresa on the dimly lit pathway toward her home. When they finally arrived at her house—a modest structure that appeared almost battered but had a certain charm—Teresa felt a swell of pride. It stood as a stark reminder of the world they lived in: a hellscape wrought by chaos and ruin in the year 2042.
"Thanks for walking me home," Teresa said, glancing up at Peter with a grateful smile.
"It's no trouble at all," Peter replied, his voice warm as he returned her smile, his eyes sparkling with admiration.
Furrowing her brow, Teresa looked at him curiously. "What's that look for?"
Peter took a moment before responding, collecting his thoughts. "I was just thinking… you're truly remarkable. I can envision you becoming something incredible, even if we manage to change the course of this grim future."
A soft smile spread across Teresa's face, her eyes reflecting a flicker of hope. "That's been my aspiration since the very beginning."
Peter's excitement bubbled to the surface. "Hey, why don't you join our team? We're known for embracing misfits and unique individuals."
Teresa hesitated, her internal conflict apparent. "I would absolutely love to. The idea of traveling through time and space sounds exhilarating. But… the future is in dire need of a hero. The past has Spider-Man and the Legends to rely on; the future needs me."
He nodded, a smile still gracing his lips, understanding the weight of her words. "What do they even call you, anyway?"
At that question, Teresa sighed dramatically, her cheeks flushing slightly. "They… call me… Ms. Penguin."
Peter barely stifled a laugh, his expression shifting from surprise to amusement. He took a deep breath, trying to compose himself, but a chuckle escaped. "I'm sorry, what?"
Teresa rolled her eyes, clearly embarrassed. "Yeah, it's pretty terrible. Just stop laughing, okay?"
Peter continued to chuckle as he turned to walk away, the name echoing in his mind. "Ms. Penguin!"
"You call yourself Spider-Man!" she shot back, irritation mingling with amusement in her voice as her brother's laughter faded into the distance.
As Peter reached the door to leave, he couldn't contain his laughter any longer, the sound carrying through the evening air. "Ms. Penguin!" he shouted, still laughing, the playful exchange lingering in his mind as he made his way to the Waverider.
