Here we are, finally on season 3. I really hope you're enjoying the story so far. Can't believe what's happened previously; little recap, Maya has killed her first person. Callie has killed 40 people. Josie had a stillborn. Amy getting raped. All in all, it kicked off. And here we go again, back to the series story. Let's get into it!
Disclaimer I don't own The Walking Dead just my ocs and plotlines.
Callie's POV
6 Months Pass
Herself, Rick, Daryl, T-Dog and Carl were waiting outside the house they were going to pick clean. It's been so long since they've had a decent meal. They haven't had any food for a couple of days now, which has been a reoccurring event since they left the Airbnb, it seemed like ever since place they've been too has been ransacked. There's got to be some left.
Rick kicks in the door and shoots at the closest walker and T-Dog rushes in following him and stabs a walker in the head with a pole and the walker crashes into the wall. Daryl and herself go in next, weapons raised, and Carl follows.
She gestures to Carl to follow her and they go straight ahead, checking the quiet rooms, their shoes causing the floor boards to creek.
Rick follows in behind them and raises his flashlight before going in a dark room, she guesses the pantry, while her and Carl raise their weapons and go into the kitchen.
She takes notice of the many empty cans and bottles discarded on the counters. That's not a good sign for them, they were hoping to find some food here.
Carl makes a small noise to get her attention and she notices the closed door.
She raises her machete and her hand holds the handle, she looks at Carl who raises his gun ready.
She opens the door and Carl slowly walks in and notices the walker on the other side of the room wearing a night dress. The walker turns and snarls and Carl aims his gun and fires and it drops dead, the blood splattering onto the curtains behind it.
She walks out with Carl behind her and returns to the kitchen where Rick was waiting. She nods her head clear. All of the downstairs was cleared.
Carl begins rummaging through the mess of the counter trying to scavenge anything worth keeping or eating when the back door opens and Glenn and Maggie walk in. Glenn nods at the two of them saying the back yard is clear.
Herself and Rick leave Carl in the kitchen, and head towards the main entrance of the house.
Rick looks out of the open doors and whistles.
Callie notices Daryl walking down the stairs plucking the feathers from an owl.
It's better than nothing.
Rick waits at the entry way while Maggie and Glenn begin moving the dead when T-Dog moves into the other room with Daryl.
Carol walks in holding blankets, with Beth behind her carrying a bag of their blankets. Summer and Connor following behind, carrying their own bags.
Damien, Richie, Harriett, Daisy, Tabby, Amy, Noa and a quiet Maya and Josie walk inside. All have their own gear to carry.
Maya and Josie haven't said much after the loss of the baby and the execution of that kid. Carol tried to keep their spirits up and her and Josie have acquired a more solid friendship due to the bond of losing a child. But worryingly enough, Maya didn't care about killing that kid, but no one wanted to say anything in case it triggers something.
They've acquired a few things over the winter, a new car to make space for people, so they're not all crammed sardines in their vehicles. Now they can sleep comfortably inside if need be.
And finally a heavily pregnant Lori walks in with Hershel behind her carrying two bags. They didn't want Lori carrying too much weight. The group is herded by Jeremy, holding a backpack and his shotgun, quickly giving the entry a once over before heading inside, and himself and Rick closed the doors.
She follows the group inside the room and they all sat down, breathing heavily from the heat and lack of food and water. Luckily they've been boiling water they've got from the river, but they're all getting tired from the lack of food, they haven't had a proper meal in a couple of days, and they need their energy now more than ever.
It was quiet until Carl walks in and places a can of... oh you've gotta be kidding me. A can of dog food on the floor and he digs into his bag and pulls out a can opener.
Everyone just watched him.
She was saddened at the fact that Carl was desperate enough for dog food.
As Carl was cutting into the can, Rick notices and walks over and grabs the can that was just opened.
The group stays silent, watching over the scene before them.
He inspects it for a second before throwing it across the room and even Daryl looks up from plucking the owl.
Rick was watching them all, taking note of their expressions. She didn't blame Rick for throwing away the can of dog food. He didn't want his son to eat dog food as a way to not starve.
The air was tense, Carol was giving Rick dirty looks, Maggie and Glenn just stayed silent.
The tension was interrupted when T-Dog makes a pssst sound and we all knew the drill. It was time to go. We grabbed the bags that weren't even unpacked and went through the back entrance.
They quickly hopped into the cars and the last one to hop in was Maggie after grabbing an axe and they immediately took off.
Callie's eyes met Rick's in the mirror, him driving the car. They needed food and soon or they will start to starve. They need a place for Lori to have her baby safely, they needed all the supplies that they could get. But luck has not been on their side as of late.
A bit of time later
The cars pull to a stop in the middle of the road, she quickly hops out and Rick, who immediately goes to the front of the cars and looks out for walkers, Carl immediately running after him.
Maggie lays out a map and she joins her, as well as T-Dog, Hershel, Daryl and Glenn approach as well.
Jeremy was keeping an eye out on the sides, while Beth was at the back of the cars, looking out.
"Where are we at?" She asks and Maggie points at the map.
"Around here." She says confidently and she hums. They were going around in circles.
Rick joins them.
"We've got no place left to go." T-Dog mutters, exhausted.
Maggie hums, pointing at the map. "When this herd meets up with this one, we'll be cut off. We'll never make it south."
Daryl frowns. "What do you say, it's about 150 head?"
"That was last week, could be twice that by now." Glenn points out and it was a true statement.
They've been keeping an eye on the herds that they accidentally ran into before.
"This river could have delayed them." Hershel says positively. "If we move fast, we might have a shot to tear right through this."
She thinks about it for a moment. "It's a risk."
T-Dog nods. "Yeah, but if this group joins with that one, they could spill out this way."
Maggie bites her lip. "So we're blocked."
Rick takes a moment and looks at her. A plan in his eyes which she's grateful for. She had no sleep last night and is not of any help right now. "Only thing to do is double back at 27th and swing towards Greenville."
"Good plan." She mutters.
T-Dog frowns. "We picked through that already, it's like we spent the winter going in circles." He reminds the two leaders.
"Yeah, I know. I know." Rick eases him. "At Newnan we'll push west."
She hums. "We haven't been through the area."
They were on the same wave length, they knew what the other was going to say. This has been the regular occurrence during the winter.
Rick nods, "we can't keep going house to house." He looks back at a heavily pregnant Lori sitting in the car, and everyone knew what he was getting at. "We need to find some place to hold up for a few weeks."
T-Dog nods in agreement. "Alright. Is it cool if we get to the creek before we head out? It won't take long. We gotta fill up on water, we can boil it later."
Callie hums. "Knock yourself out."
The only one who wasn't around the hood of the car was Lori, and that was because she was too tired after the fast paced morning.
T-Dog walks over to Jeremy, who grabs a bag of bottles that they've been stocking up for all the water. When they were running out, they put them all in a bag until they could fill up.
She leaves Hershel and Rick to talk as she heads over to Daryl, who was sorting himself out.
"How long we out here for?" He asks and she shrugs.
"As long as it takes. If we need to leave, Beth and Carl know the signal." She informs him and he nods.
"Hopefully it won't be like last time." He mutters and she nods.
That last time was unexpected, a herd practically came out of nowhere and her and Daryl got separated from the group for a day, but luckily they had already discussed the next stop, so they had to go on foot and meet up with them.
To distract them, they blew up a gas station which sent the herd to a different direction, which thankfully bought them time to meet up with the group, and put quite a few miles between them.
She notices Hershel leave and Daryl gestures to her, and they go back to Rick.
"Hey, while the others wash their panties, let's go hunt. That owl didn't exactly hit the spot." Daryl mutters and she snorts.
"Still got cramps?" She jokes and he huffs.
"Stop."
Her, Rick and Daryl leave the others to go hunting, and they were walking on the tracks, their footsteps crunching on the stones when they came across a prison, with fences still standing tall, but there were walkers inside, milling around the courtyard, the field, she couldn't imagine how many were inside the actual buildings. It was surrounded.
"That's a shame." Daryl's gruff voices cuts through the silence as they stand there and look at it.
She notices that all the walkers inside were wearing prison clothes.
"They're wearing prison clothes." She voices and Rick smiles, for the first time in a long time.
"It's perfect."
After spotting the prison, they immediately went back to the group and explained what they found, and the amount of hope on everyone's faces was enough. They had a place to stay for the night.
Rick was cutting into the fence with pliers, while the others were forming a circle around Lori. They were all back to back, forming an opposite huddle off a football game.
Glenn kills a walker approaching.
"Watch the backside!" Rick orders them, clearly worried about the group's safety in this vulnerable position.
"Got it." Lori responds.
Jeremy holds open one side, while Rick the other, Damien sliding through the gap to take point while the others in the group squeeze through, they had to widen the hole for Lori, so she could comfortably get through.
"Hurry! Hurry!" Rick hisses at T-Dog who finally squeezes through, the last remaining outside the fence.
Once he was through, Glenn and Daryl quickly close the wire up. The walkway looked tiny from the distance, but there was at least six feet between the outer fence, and the inside fence. Which was a safe passage for them to get to the gates of the prison, without having to kill all the walkers. The walkers were throwing themselves at the fence to get to them but couldn't.
Once it was closed up, they run to the gateway, a large tower looming over them.
They could make this work.
As if Rick could read her mind. "It's perfect. If we can shut that gate..." he pauses and points to the gate at the top of the field that goes to the courtyard, which was guarded by a dozen walkers, and another tower looming over. "...prevent more from filling the yard, we can pick off these walkers. We'll take the field by tonight."
"So how do we shut the gate?" Hershel asks the dreaded question.
Glenn steps up. "I'll do it. You guys cover me."
Maggie immediately shakes her head. "No, it's a suicide run."
Glenn looks at her. "I'm the fastest." He reminds her.
Rick shakes his head. "No. You, Maggie, Beth and Harriet draw as many as you can over there." He points at the smallest walkway, which goes directly to a tower. "Pop them through the fence. Daryl, Connor, go back to the other tower. Carol, you've become a pretty good shot, take your time, we don't have a lot of ammo to waste. Hershel, you, Amy and Carl take this tower."
"Alright." He says and follows Hershel and Amy up to the tower.
"Maya stay with Lori, you're a good shot." He tells the little girl who nods.
"Damien, Richie, Jeremy, Josie, Daisy, Summer, go to where we came, and draw them there. It'll create a path." She tells them and they nod.
Everybody quickly gets into position.
"I'll run for the gate."
"No, I will." She speaks up and he looks at her and nods.
"We will." He says and she nods in agreement with a little smirk.
Glenn, T-Dog, Maggie, Beth and Harriett draw the walkers by screaming.
"Come on!
"Hey, come here!" Beth yells.
Lori grabs the gate and looks at her and Rick. She had her gun out ready, as well as Rick. She quickly opens it and her and Rick run inside.
She lifts her gun and shoots a walker dead.
The amount of walkers dropping down, gunshots and shouting, she only could concentrate. Shooting at walkers that were approaching her and Rick.
A bullet hits just in front of her and Rick and they skidded to a stop. They both look to the tower where it came from and at Carol, Connor and Daryl.
"Sorry." Carol shouts down as she reloads. Callie chuckles at her.
They approach the gate and she kicks a walker back, and it tumbles to the floor as Rick grabs the gate and quickly closes it, latching it shut.
They turn and see the walkers behind them were pretty close. She shoots at another walker, the blood splattering on her.
Rick shoots another before opening the door to the tower, and he shoots two walkers and she follows after him, shutting the door, which engulfs them in darkness.
He comes across a rifle in the tower from one of the walkers.
"Lucky grab." She comments and she could tell he was grinning even though it was dark. They run up the tower steps and walk out onto the catwalk, she had to blink to get her eyes adjusted quickly.
"Light it up!" Daryl yells.
She cracks a smile and aims her gun, killing the first walker and everyone else follows suit. Gunshots were ringing out and walkers were dropping like flies.
She casts a look at Rick and smiles for the first time in... Christ she didn't even know in how long, and Rick returns it, chuckling.
They have a place to stay. Luck is on their side.
Annndddd I'll leave it there. It's a long boring chapter but it's the build up. But the luck on their side comment, we all know what's going to go down in the next couple of chapters, so it's kind of a saddened thought. Anyways, hope you enjoyed the chapter!
