Prologue

He didn't think he had ever been this angry before. He didn't think he had been this shocked before either. In fact, He didn't think he had ever experienced any emotion as severely as he was feeling them right now.
"You lied!" He heard himself roar against his will.
He didn't think his own brother would break the vow they made together when they were dragonets. A vow to never, under any circumstance, use their animus powers. The room was spinning at this point. All he could see was the blurry walls of their dessert hut and the shape of his brother standing there with a terrifyingly neutral expression.
"You lied to me!" He screamed again. He didn't know what his mouth was doing defying him like this.
"Brother, calm down and let me explain" He hated how calm and collected his brother was being.
"You promised! We made our vows together! How could you just turn around and break that?" The world was still spinning but at least he could control his mouth now.
"It was to help a friend! Am I not allowed to use the powers I was gifted to help save the life of a friend?" He knew that even if his head wasn't spinning, he still wouldn't be able to meet his brother's eyes.
"We both know the dangers of animus magic! Saving one life is not worth risking the hundreds of lives that would be lost if you went insane!" He was not even sure if he believed the stuff he was saying. It was more the fact that his brother had betrayed him.
"Stop overreacting. Your acting like it was some serious life commitment and not just some dumb stuff we said when we were 3." That stung. Did his brother really think that? Was he the fool for believing that we would stay true to what we said when we were barely old enough to fly? Either way, It was clear that his brother had drastically different perceptions of their dragonethood then he did.
His vision was mostly clear now. He could see all the smashed vases and furniture he broke in a rage. He wished his vision would go back to being hazy. He didn't want to look at the damage he caused, let alone his brother. The morning sun shone brightly behind Asterias as he stood in the doorway. The light backlighting his beige scales. It made it hard to read his expression now."He's the villain here, Right?" A tiny, well more like medium sized part of him was starting to doubt that.
Asterias just glared at him. He hated the feeling of being mad at his brother and he especially hated the feeling of his brother being mad at him.
"You are my brother. Not my mother. You can't decide what I can and can't do."
"I'm just worried about you. I want your soul to be safe." Did he? Yes he did. There was a part of him that said it was wrong to care about his brother's loyalty more than his safety.
"These are MY powers! I'm allowed to use them as I see fit. It's not up to you whether I get to use them or not based on things we said as kids." That made him see red. How dare he talk to his brother like that. They had been through everything together and now he wants to go and leave him behind. He wasn't having it.
"So you'd rather go have fun playing with your silly animus magic than to be with your brother?"
"I shouldn't have to choose! I should get to have these powers and live a normal life too!"
"Well you do have to pick. Swear off your animus magic or leave. Those are your options."
Asterias paused for a moment to think (The nerve!) and then looked up. They locked eyes for only a moment before he said "Goodbye, Moon."
His head instantly went back to spinning. He picked animus powers over his brother. He felt completely destroyed. Everything he thought he knew about his brother turned out to be false. This is what he deserves for assuming his brother would listen to him. No. This wasn't his fault. They BOTH vowed to never use their magic. HE broke the trust first. And now he's just gonna walk away. Before he could even think what he was doing, He burst out.
"I enchant this dragon to lose their animus magic, and to never be able to become and animus again"
Time seemed to freeze. The only thing that moved were the palm trees outside swaying in the wind, and His brother's eyes widening an impossible amount. And then everything moved. The shriek his brother made could probably be heard from the mud kingdom. And before he could even cover his ears he was already pinned to the ground.
The next minute was a flash of sound and pain. It was inteligible shriek followed by blood followed by inteligible shriek followed by blood. Eventually he stopped roaring and slashing him for a few seconds to catch his breath. He felt like if he wanted to say something, now would be the best time.
"I did what was best for you and the tribe. One day you'll thank me"
The look in his brother's eyes was anger he had never thought capable of in a dragon. He tried to gauge whether he would keep slashing him or leave him be but he just kept snarling down at him until he finally said.
"I will get my animus powers back. no matter how long it takes. I have as much time as I want."
That last sentence sent a shiver down his spine. Had his brother already made himself immortal? He looked into his brother's eyes but what he saw terrified him. He had the eyes of a murderer. Just then, he felt one of his paws lift off his chest. He got a sudden spark of hope as he thought he was going to let him go. That hope quickly turned to horror however when he placed his paw back down on his neck.
"A-asterias, Pleaseā¦"
The look in his brother's eyes told him that this was his end. The only thing he could do was watch as he put his other paw on his neck.
