Clarity

Ally's POV

Death.

The one word that haunted me all day today. The word echoed throughout my mind like an endless tunnel that was dark and horrifying. I was recently drawing a heart on my piece of paper while Kellyanne was copying notes down from Mrs. Ameen. She swiftly pushed a note towards my direction.

I gave her a confused look but her eyes were just screaming 'read it already!'

I opened the note and read it silently to myself.

What is up with you? I thought you loved science with Mrs. Ameen?- Kelly

I sighed and began my writing, I quickly tossed her the note and she rolled her eyes at my stupid discreet move. After she finished writing she slid it back over to my side. Honestly I didn't like this back and forth thing anymore.

We will talk about it later make sure you throw the note away from outside the class you know how Mrs. Ameen finds notes in the trash easily.-Kelly

I balled up the piece of paper and shoved it into my binder without hesitation.

Suddenly the bell rang. I quickly collected my things and made my way to the door. I walked to my locker, Kellyanne closely behind. I opened my locker and she suddenly slammed it shut.

"What the hell is up with you?" She snapped.

I rolled my eyes and opened my locker once again, I shoved my textbooks into my leather bag and slammed it shut. "Look Kelly I'm not in a bad mood it's just a lot of things happened this morning and I would like some alone time." I said smoothly. I honestly didn't want her to worry about this morning or know that I had some major feelings for one of the Moon clan.

I turned on my heels but she grabbed my shoulder forcing me to turn back. "Ally I know it's the end of the day but you shouldn't be too excited to get home." Kelly said positioning her hands on her hips. "Kells, I've got to go I'll call you later tonight." I walked away trying my hardest to not look back. I wanted to tell Kellyanne everything but I couldn't.

I needed space, space to think about what I really wanted in life, I wasn't going to leave it up to my friends to have the pressure of deciding the decision for me. I quickly pulled out the keys to Austin's Jeep and unlocked the car hopping inside.

I started the car quickly, I wanted to get to the hospital as fast as I could. Hopefully Austin would be okay by now...

-Line Break-

"He's in room 203 just down the hall." The lady behind the counter said politely. I nodded and walked down the hall, I could feel my breathing get heavier by the minute. With each step I realized I was getting much closer to finding out if Austin was alive or not.

I took a deep breath as I found the room.

My hand touched the door knob and I slightly twisted it as it began to open.

I suddenly stepped back at the scene, Dylan was in a chair, guitar in his hands as Austin's monitor was beeping. Austin's eyes were closed and he looked peaceful but the color around his eyes seemed darker than this morning and it frightened me a bit.

Dylan looked up but he didn't look at me he looked in the direction of Austin.

"It wasn't supposed to happen like this." Dylan finally spoke after a moment of silence. I closed the door but leaned against the wall. "I know it was you who drugged your brother so don't expect me to go easy just because you think I still have some crazy crush on you that will never exist." I scorned.

I saw some tears stain his red varsity jacket. "You have it all wrong Allison."

"Tell me what I have wrong Dylan? You obviously drugged your own brother, I can hear the guilt in your voice what kind of oblivious idiot do you take me for these days?" I snapped angrily and trust me I was angry. I knew it was Dylan from the moment Noah told me he had the prescription bottle in the first place.

He suddenly stood up positioning his guitar in the corner and came towards me. I stepped back and he awkwardly ran his fingers through his hair, "You've got it wrong Ally, I refilled his prescription bottles perfectly."

"I still don't see how I'm wrong." I declared.

"Wait I'm not finished, the day I got them refilled I left them in the car, the next morning I returned the bottle back to Noah's house leaving them on the end table by the door. When I got home later that night I found Austin's pill bottles on the end of the driveway yet the bottle was empty."

"So you must have thought it was the prescription that Austin used before you got the new bottle refilled." I said as realization hit me hard. "Exactly, but what's weird is that the bottle I gave to Noah had his name and the right date on it so that's why I thought it was the right one in the first place and the other one was a used old prescription bottle." Dylan explained.

I clicked my tongue as I took time to think this through.

If Dylan didn't have the right prescription bottle the next day, what happened to the actual bottle of pills and most of all who would have access to Dylan's car in the first place?

We both looked at each other and gasped, "It must have been someone who knew about Austin's antidepressants!" I spoke as Dylan snapped his fingers. "You're right, I remember when Austin and I were younger he took those pills and if he got too depressed he would take more and more because it was addicting at the time. He only tried it once though and he never did it again after that." Dylan explained

My eyes opened wide.

"I know who it was."
