Hey, what's up you guys? GiLaw here with a new Danganronpa fic, Face The Consequence!

I've always found the idea of the blackened and their victims meeting each other in the afterlife, but I can't recall seeing too much fan content of it (please let me know if I've missed any). How would they cope- Would they easily forgive each other? Would they hold a bitter grudge? Would either member feel anything? It's a fascinating idea to me that I would just love to explore.

THIS STORY CONTAINS MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR ALL THREE DANGANRONPA GAMES! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I'm gonna start with probably the most iconic blackened and victim pairing: Leon and Sayaka! Now I've already kind of gone into this pairing in my other fanfic, An Alternate Timing, but I honestly find this pairing so interesting. I also still stand by that both characters deserve a lot more than the labels they get (particularly 11037 memes and snake labels...)

Anyways, enough talk, enjoy the fic!

Please note that I do not accept AI reviews.

Face Your Consequences

Chapter 1

Leon Kuwata and Sayaka Maizono

Pain, pain, pain, pain, pain…

Again and again and again and again…

That's the last thing Leon remembered before he lost that last hint of hope that someone might help him…

And then everything just stopped.

He collapsed in a heap, a bloodied bashed in heap, his clothes drenched in his own blood. His heart was still racing as fast as those balls.

Leon winced at the mere thought.

And then it suddenly hits him- he didn't feel the pain anymore.

He didn't really feel anything.

Leon sat up with a start, staring at his hands. Not only were they covered in blood, but his fingers looked… wrong. He didn't know how else to explain it, they were just… bent the wrong way, all crooked, some of them bent the wrong way.

Just that sight made him sick to his stomach. If these were just his fingers, he didn't want to even dare see what his face looked like.

In fact… where the hell was he?

Leon took a deep breath and stood up, amazed he could even move his legs, let alone stand- and all without feeling any pain. All he could see around him was this bleak, grey nothing.

Everything was so dark and hollow… kind of empty.

Was this despair?

Was this… anything at all?

Even fucking Hope's Peak gave him more than this.

As Leon continued what he could of his new surroundings (if you could even call them that), he noticed another girl in the distance, covered in enough blood that he couldn't make out her clothes. He initially stiffened at the sight and he didn't know why. She was covered in blood just like him, and he didn't recognize the girl either- all he could see from a distance was that she had short black hair- and he'd seen too many dark haired chicks in his time to think about who she was and where she came from.

So he scoffed and went on, before a glimpse of pink caught the corner of his eye… Another girl with long dark blue hair, dressed in blue and pink, her stomach covered in blood.

Leon's blood ran icy cold and then fiery hot.

"Sayaka…"

Sayaka's already stiff body stiffened even more. She glanced up with widened eyes shimmering with uncertainty. She immediately spotted Leon, and her little face sunk in horror. Leon wondered if it was because of the state he looked or because she saw him as… well… her murderer.

Whatever the reason, he didn't give a shit. He spun around and marched towards… well, he didn't know where he was going, he just wanted to get away from these bitches before-

"Leon…"

For some reason, Sayaka was hurrying after him. Not exactly running (after all, who'd run after their own killer?)

Maybe she got another one of those stupid motivational videos and thought she could try some shit on him again to get out of this place.

"Leon!"

"WHAT?" He stomped to a halt and whipped around to face her, almost baring his teeth… if he even had teeth anymore. Sayaka stumbled back, her eyes widened. Her hand immediately shot up to her mouth, her body sinking and shuddering.

Way to hit it home to him that he looked a fucking sight.

"Whadaya want?" Leon muttered, not even bothering to make eye contact with her.

Sayaka gulped and eventually spoke up, her voice barely above a whisper,

"Oh Leon, I… I'm so sorry."

Leon snorted and shifted away. "Sure you are."

"No, really I am!" Sayaka cried, her eyes becoming all glazed over with what Leon suspected were crocodile tears- any bitch who could play the victim card was well able to do it. He rolled his eyes and turned his back on her, keeping his arms firmly folded. He didn't even budge when Sayaka tried to poke him on what he guessed was still his shoulder.

"Leon, please. Please listen to me for just a minute! I had no idea this was gonna happen."

"What, ya thought the knife would be quicker?" Leon snapped, making Sayaka gasp and step back.

"P- please…" she whispered after a moment. "It's not like I wanted to kill you… I saw my friends, I panicked and I-"

"Oh sure!" Leon yelled. "You didn't want to kill me at all! Ya just sent me a letter, invited me over, kept a knife with ya! Oh, and you swapped rooms with Makoto!"

"Is Makoto okay?" Sayaka asked softly.

"Oh yeah! He's fine!" Leon declared, rolling his eyes again, his face as red hot as his hair. "Little bastard called me out on everything! Told the whole class how you left a little message behind so I wouldn't get away with it! And they all vote to watch me get dragged to a pitch by my neck where I get pummeled by damn baseballs!"

Sayaka winced, her facial expression melting for him. "That sounds so horrible. Oh Leon, I'm so sorry you had to go through all that. I didn't realize there was a vote… Or an execution…"

"Yeah, there was a whole damn trial," Leon muttered irritably. "Whole class got to play judge, jury and executioner on my ass. All led by Makoto." He suddenly turned back to Sayaka, his eyes gleaming with anger.

"What the hell were you even trying to accomplish? You care so much about your little Makoto, so you try to frame him? And then you get to watch him and everyone else die so you can skip on outta here to see those bandmates of yours- who, if you need a friendly reminder may not even be alive!"

Sayaka just stood there, her eyes shut, her body deathly still. With her blood on her blouse, it almost brought Leon back to the bathroom…

She took a deep steady breath. She gulped back a lump in her throat. She opened her eyes very slowly. And then she murmured very softly,

"I don't know…"

"Oh!" Leon almost swatted at her, that answer pissed him off so much. "Of course NOW you don't know!"

"It made sense in my head at the time!" she cried.

"I'm sure it did!" Leon sneered, jabbing a crooked finger in his bashed in temple. "Just saw an opportunity in me and thought you'd take the easy way out!"

What pissed him off most about this is that he used to like the girl until this all happened. Yes, he liked all girls, but Sayaka was different. She was cute, with an intriguing personality, and she shared his love of music. When she'd sent him that note… he'd genuinely thought something was going to happen there. Something good, something special… something that wouldn't result in them both dying.

Sayaka gave him false hope. And now look what happened to him.

"What about you?"

"Huh? Leon stared at the girl with a scowl on his face. Her expression had suddenly gone all stern, one of her hands clenched in a shaky fist.

"What?" he scoffed.

"Don't give me that!" Sayaka suddenly snapped. "Don't shout at me for trying to kill you when you broke into the bathroom to kill me-"

"It was self defense!"

"You broke my wrist!" Sayaka raised her right arm, revealing her bruised wrist, her hand hanging at an awkward angle. Leon recognized a hint of gold left behind from the golden katana he had used.

Leon took a deep shaky breath, followed by a series of deeper, more intense ones, glaring daggers at Sayaka, whose frown deepened. He hated to admit how well she was standing her ground here. Maybe she knew, just like he did, that he couldn't exactly hurt her anymore.

"So tell me," Sayaka said firmly, taking a brave step towards him, waving her crooked broken wrist almost tauntingly in his face. "How exactly was this self defence?"

She said it so softly, it was actually kind of intimidating. Leon took a step back, raising his own broken up hands to shield his eyes from the gruesome sight of her wrist.

"I- I… I didn't know if you were gonna- Would you stop waving that in front of me?" he shrieked, swatting at her hand to try and swipe it away.

"You thought I was gonna come back after you?" Sayaka asked, with a small, but somehow fierce frown on her face.

"N- No, I-" Dammit, this chick. "I didn't know if you were gonna play the victim and turn everyone else against me and turn me into the bad guy! You have no idea how many bitches have done that to me! Try to lure me in to sleep with them, ya make one false move with them and then next thing, you've got a whole lawsuit against ya!"

Sayaka's frown only deepened even more, and Leon could tell she wasn't buying his words for a second. She lowered her wrist, resting it in her other palm.

"I think you saw an opportunity."

"What?" Leon's head flicked out, his heart skipping a beat. "Whadaya mean?" he asked, cocking his head, trying to play the idiot. But he could tell that Sayaka still wasn't falling for it- that damn intuition of hers.

"You saw an opportunity, just like I did. Saw an opportunity in me, just like I did and thought you'd, as you put it 'take the easy way out."'

"What? I- I didn't-" Leon spluttered, his mouth gaping, his broken arms and fingers all sprawled out as he tried to excuse his way out of it. But it was slowly hitting him, just like all of those baseballs that Sayaka was right and he couldn't get away with it.

"FUCK!"

Sayaka just watched as he stomped his foot and let out that agitated roar of despair. She heaved a heavy sigh and shuffled slightly closer to him.

"We were both wrong. We both jumped at the opportunity… and gave Monokuma what he wanted," she murmured sadly. When Leon didn't respond and kept his back turned on her, the girl sighed again. Very slowly, she placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, trying not to wince at how rough and swollen it felt.

"I'm sorry," she stated one last time. And with that, she slid away and headed off.

She couldn't say she blamed him for his fury towards her. And she certainly wouldn't be surprised if he didn't trust her anymore.

But she just wished he could see how guilty she felt about starting all of this. She didn't even dislike the guy as much as she could tell he thought she did. She wished he could accept her apology. Because she really, really meant it.

If she had known this all would have happened, she never would have put together that stupid plan in the first place.

At least Makoto was okay. That gave her something at least…

Leon heard the girl snuffling near him. Very slowly, he glanced over his shoulder and saw Sayaka with her back to his, her head bent, her body shaking. He could tell she was trying not to cry.

"Pffft…" Bitch was probably just putting it on to get sympathy from him. He didn't care. He still stood by what he did.

It was self defence.

That was why he went back to grab his toolkit and break apart a doorknob that didn't even need to be broken and busted into the bathroom to kill the girl who couldn't fight back with her broken wrist…

Self defence.

It was self defence!

Behind him, Sayaka spluttered, real tears starting to trickle down her face.

He couldn't hide behind that excuse anymore. Fuck.

Leon sucked in a big deep hot breath and marched over to the girl. He noticed her body stiffen as she sensed him behind him. She quickly wiped her eyes dry and turned around to face him.

"I'm…" Leon's gaze dropped down to his feet. He reached up to rub the back of his head. "I'm… sorry too."

It came out in a half hearted mumble. Sayaka blinked back the last of her tears and tilted her head at him.

"Pardon?"

"Ugh…" Leon couldn't tell if she genuinely didn't catch it or if she was just asking him to repeat it on purpose. He raised his eyes up to the black nothing in the air and then said louder but more bedruginly,

"I'm sorry too!"

Sayaka's eyes widened a little. Her body straightened ever so slightly.

"Really?"

"Yes! Really!" Leon muttered, running his fingers through his hair. He still couldn't bear to simply look up and make eye contact with her. He just hoped her so-called "really good intuition" would pick up that he really meant what he was saying, even if it hurt to say it.

"You were right- we were both wrong. I shouldn't have gone back in and killed you. I saw the escape opportunity, just like you did. And…" He swallowed back a lump in his throat and finally braved eye contact with her. Much to his surprise, Sayaka's face wasn't upset or angry. She was leaning forward, her eyes narrowed like she was really truly listening to him.

Leon gulped again, taking another deep shakier breath. "I'm sorry for what I did. If we weren't in this situation, I wouldn't have done it. I, uhh… actually think you're kinda cute…"

He immediately tore his gaze away. Why did he have to say that last thing? What was he trying to achieve from saying that last thing? Stupid, stupid, stupid…

"Leon?"

Leon gulped back another, larger lump in his throat and braved a glance up at the girl standing before him. Sayaka had stepped closer to him, her bad hand raised towards him… Leon had no idea how she was managing to hold it in place like that, but he sure as hell wasn't going to question it. He lowered his eyebrows and glanced up at Sayaka's face. She was neither smiling or frowning- in fact, there was a very sincere look on her face.

"I accept your apology," she assured him, bringing her hand closer to him.

"Huh? O- oh… okay." Leon suddenly realized he hadn't given her his hand back and brought it over to meet hers. He thought he saw Sayaka smile a little as she closed her fingers around his limp broken ones and gave him a reassuring handshake. "I, uhh… forgive you too."

He winced to himself, wondering if he was sounding like he was forcing himself to say it just for the sake of it. But he saw Sayaka's smile grow for definite, almost growing into her signature sweet smile.

Almost…

Still shaking hands, Leon peeped a glance behind him, over to the bloodstained girl with her short dark hair.

"Who's that over there?" he asked, trying to strike a new conversation.

"That's Junko."

"What?" Leon stared at Sayaka, his eyes widened in disbelief. "Junko Enoshima? The fashionista?" He glanced back round his shoulder again and upon a closer look, he finally saw those spear holes… some of which he could see all the way through, even from this distance.

"So her hair was fake all along?!"

"Actually…" Sayaka took a deep breath and tugged on his jacket to get him closer to her. She leaned into his ear and whispered… By the time she was finished, Leon had a dumbstruck expression on his face.

"Ohhh… Those guys in Hope's Peak are screwed."

Sayaka winced, letting out a small shaky gasp. "Makoto…"

"I- I mean… I- if he can sus us out, I'm sure it won't be long till he… y'know…" At this point, Leon didn't know what to say. All he could do was stare down at Sayaka whose gaze had drooped.

"Hopefully," she eventually murmured. She hadn't let go of his jacket.

Leon heaved a heavy sigh. He went to glance back at "Junko", but stopped when he felt Sayaka tug on his jacket, urging him not to. She probably figured that talking to that crazy girl wasn't going to end well, even in this place… wherever they were. Nevertheless, Leon decided for once to trust her intuition.

"I'm sure Makoto will be fine," he eventually muttered.

To which Sayaka looked up at him, her eyes flickering with the tiniest hint of hope. "Yeah…"

Deep down, both of them knew that so much had been broken together, and if it was going to take forever to get fixed… if it was ever gonna get fixed at all. Leon's body was more than proof of that.

But forgiveness and a little bit of hope seemed like a good place to start.

There you go! I hope you enjoyed that! I didn't want to make it too shippy, as I felt both members here would be quite bitter towards each other- especially Leon after what he had to go through in his trial and execution. Anyone would hold a grudge after that.

But if you do want to see my concept of the LeoSaya pairing explored more, check out my other fic, An Alternate Timeline! I haven't forgotten about that story, and I do have some more plans for that! And please review and let me know which blackened and victim pairings you'd like me to do next because I have a fair idea who I plan to do!

See ya! ;D
