This is the best day of his life.

Actually

This is the best year of his life.

From getting his implants done to finally joining a regular school, interacting with kids his age, and even making a friendship with a kind red Heeler named Bingo. He still likes spending time with his other friends from the special school due to his condition, but establishing a relationship with Bingo felt special, a hopeful confirmation that everything is going well in this new chapter of his life

"See you later, Dougie," the joyful voice of Bingo waves at him goodbye with a smile inside the school's interior. During lunchtime, she told him everything she liked about bugs and her family. Despite not being familiar with bugs, he still listened to her and that radian energy that came out of her.

"See you later, Bingo," he answers with a waving hand before the two new friends walk to their respective classes. During lunchtime, he also talked to her about her mother and his love for Turtles, trying to put into practice what he learned in speech therapy. He still recognizes that his way of speaking is not as smooth as others' but knows that can be overcome by speaking more and more.

Luckily for him, it was barely halfway through the school day, and even more fortunate for him, it was the time of the class he had been waiting for the whole day.

"Music 1"

Contrary to popular belief. Dougie can…feel the music by vibrations coming to his feet. But now that he can hear, he has been on his little crusade to hear as many beats as possible, as many lyrics as possible, and as many melodies as possible.

Dougie finally reaches the room on the other side of the school. His small transmitters catch the sound of his classmates entering, moving chairs and sitting down inside the tall room, with three steps going up by a small margin, simulating an orchestra floor, on the back of the room where some instruments on a rack that were put out, a harp, two cellos, one base, couple violas, trumpets, trombones and a lot of flutes, oboes, and clarinets, but the one instrument Dougie is eager to try, is the violin.

Weeks ago, on the day his cochlear implant got active, one of the first things her mother did was to show him a video of her playing the violin in her free time, an improvised test to make sure the device was working, even if he tried his best, he couldn't forget the first time he heard the soft, hopeful sound of the violin, he even asked her to play the violin when he arrived home, something her mother gladly obliged transforming the living room into a personal concert for him.

Dougie finally found a chair near the teacher's desk near the whiteboard, a plan he and his mother had set up with the school to ensure he had all the support he needed in case he couldn't understand a word.

It didn't take long for the Teacher, a female white Borzoi with headphones hanging from her neck, to stand next to her desk in front of a large body of students sitting down. "Good morning, Class."

"Good morning, teacher," Dougie and the class shouts back.

"Im teacher Darline, and im going to introduce you guys to music this semester. Now, a few things about me…" Darline moves to the whiteboard and starts to write on it, "I have been teaching music since I was 20 years old. I participated in…

Doguie frowns, confused. He could see the teacher move her lips but couldn't hear…

Anything…

Scared and annoyed, Doguie puts his hand on both transmitters and starts tapping them; even with the soft taps of his hands, the transmitters do not work. In a desperate attempt to make them work, Doguie turns off and turns on the devices.

…" and finally, im here, been teaching in his school for two years now, and now im going for my third." Darline stops writing her facts about herself before moving to her desk and picking up a big pile of papers.

Somehow, turning off the device and turning it back on works for Dougie.

"Today, we are going to do some introductions. You guys are going to write down what's there, and then you guys will introduce themselves, you guys got 15 minutes before we start."

Following what she said, Darline started giving out papers with questions to her students until she finally gave one to Dougie. The Cavapoo took a close look at the paper and read it in his mind.

"Name"

"Three things about yourself"

"Favorite song"

"Favorite instrument"

"What would you like to learn in this class?"

After reading, Dougie doesn't waste time and writes down using his knee as support "Violin" in the question about his favorite instrument.

The 15 minutes slowly passed, with the mourns of the class reaching Doguie's transmitter, but he couldn't bring himself to complete the rest of the questions. The only thing going around his head is

What is going on with his implant?

"Maybe Mum and the doctor can help me after school."

PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII*

"Ough" Dougie leans forward on his chair, forming a fetal position. He doesn't hesitate to put both hands on his transmitter and turn both of them off.

Dougie recomposed himself, panting at the sharp, loud sound that his transplant made. "That shouldn't have happened." Doguie thought before looking around to see some classmates working on the paper and some of them looking at him weirdly. Dougie thought and thought until he said in his head, "I need to see my mum. I need to get out of here."

Dougie turns the paper around, revealing that the back side is empty, which is perfect for him to write a message for Darline.

"NEED TO SEE MY MUM"

"SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE HEARING AID!"

It's a short message, but it will work. Dougie gets up from his chair next to the teacher's desk and waves his hand to catch Darline's attention. He sees her lips moving and manages to translate, "What's going on?" and gives her the paper with the message. He secretly thanks his deafness, which makes him learn lip reading.

After reading, Darline looks up to Doguie, sharply looks at the door, and then at Dougie to slightly form a circle with her lips. She was telling him, "GO"

With Darline's permission, Dougie picks up his backpack and quickly walks out of the classroom. Already in the empty halls, Doguie walks fast and with long strides, with his mouth slightly open and his eyes bouncing everywhere.

The short memories of him being able to hear, of her mother playing the violin for him, of the sounds of nature, the school, his classmates, and Bingo's voice, who he barely met moments ago, are passing through his brain, holding onto them as he faces the possibility of not being able to hear any of it again.

He was panicking

He wanted to cry and curse whoever bestowed him with this.

But he has to wait

He arrived where his mother would be

The School Library

Dougie burst in the empty Library, the thought of being quiet there straight up is missing, and sprints to the receptionist area to finds his Mom there sitting down and using the computer,

Dougie put his hands on the tabletop to stop him from being so fast and signals his mother with a panicking face [HEARING AID, IS BROKEN, CANT, HEAR, ANYTHING]

Dougie watches as his mother raises her eyebrows and opens her mouth scared, before letting out an expression. Dougie reads her lip and translates in his brain, "WHAT!?" His mother turns her chair behind where a female teenage Dalmatian is busy sorting out books and speaks a few words to her, something the Dalmatian responds by nodding her head

Dougie's mom gets up, picks up her purse, and gets out of the reception area to meet Dougie [We are, going, to, the, Doctor, he, must, know, what, to, do]. His mother signals him, and they both walk together out of the Library to the principal's office to excuse Dougie and walk out of the school.

His mother is right

If there is somebody that can fix this

Is Doctor Acosta
