"Emily is trapped with Pride, keeping her out of our hair today. And korra, I don't know where she is." Luz was concerned about what it meant that she'd never showed up in the room where the hallways converged. "We split up at the first staircase leading down here. I haven't seen her since."

luz looked over at her. "You split at the bottom of the stairs? How is that possible? When we passed that spot, one hallway was blocked. We were forced to go down the left tunnel."

she thought about this. Maybe she'd blocked it to prevent anyone from interfering in her standoff with Bue? Or maybe belos had done it. "Someone must have blocked it after we split.

They walked through a doorway and found themselves in a large, circular room. There was a man kneeling in the middle, drawing a transmutation circle on the floor. He looked up at their entrance.

He wore what looked like a hydra war uniform,and a Red Skull. He is known as Johann Schmidt otherwise known as the red skull.

"Oh! I wasn't expecting to have visitors. You're going to give me performance anxiety."

luz summoned her trollhunter armor. "Who the hell are you?" She demanded.

The man made a show of thinking for a minute. "Hm. You might know me as the man who created King Bradley. That is my most proud accomplishment."

"You created the king Bradley?" Rj questioned heatedly.

"Is that you, Rachel belos?" The man peered at them. "And i didn't expect to see you here! You don't know how much trouble you've saved me." He raised his hand in the air, and immediately several swordsmen dropped through a hole in the ceiling. He instructed them, "Why don't you keep them busy while I finish up, here."

The men charged the group, and they all dodged and dispersed themselves throughout the room. Luz swung at one, but his attack was blocked easily. "Who are these guys?"

"These men were once candidates for the role that King Bradley took. You could call them the leftovers." The red skull answered. He was still intent on drawing his circle.

luz didn't have a chance to respond as two of the swordsmen rushed her, and he focused all his attention on not getting skewered. She heard gunshots as hinawa defended herself, but these guys were fast enough that they even dodged her bullets easily.

These guys were good. He wasn't sure they were going to be able to beat them.

After several minutes of fighting, red skull stood and examined his work. He called his men over to him, and they stopped attacking and immediately ran to stand in their assigned places.

"Here it goes!" Red skull yelled joyfully and slammed his hand down to activate the circle. Blue alchemic energy filled the room.

"What have you done?" Luz yelled above the sounds of the alchemy crackling.

"You seem like a smart boy. Tell me, how many secrets arrives we have in multiverse?"

red skull ignored his outburst. "Let me make this nice and clear, Rachel. natasha will bleed to death in a few minutes. I am the only one here who can save her. So what will it be? Will you perform the human transmutation, or will you let her die.

rj grimaced. "Damn you."

red skull glanced at the pool of blood that was forming around natasha. "I'd make up my mind quickly if I were you. If you wait too long, even I won't be able to bring her back."

king and lucy looked on, horrified at the impossible situation natasha had been put in.

natasha glanced at rj and smiled weakly. "Colonel, please. Don't sacrifice everything, not for my sake."

red skull smirked. "But you will, won't you? Or will you live with her blood on your hands?"

rj was shaking, and it was clear that he wasn't sure of what he should do.

natasha continued to look at rj, and when she saw that she was thinking of saving her friend, her eyes hardened and her gaze became fierce.

rj froze, then looked at the ground, a defeated expression on his face.

red skull smiled. "Very good."

The group turned and sure enough, they heard the sound of footsteps echoing down from one of the tunnels. After a moment, someone emerged from the shadows.

Bradley looked at amity critically. "It's been quite some time, eh, miss blight?"

rj nodded grimly. "It certainly has, sir. I'd be lying if I said you're looking as good as ever."

Bradley stood up straight, but he had clearly sustained several major injuries, and his clothes were slightly damp.

Bradley glanced at rj, I thought for sure at least one of you would break and perform a human transmutation to save your one of your friends."

There may have been a time where we would have. But that time has passed. We have people by our side who will keep us from being reckless, and ensure we stay on the right path." Rj said.

Bradley sighed. "And here I was under the impression that you were all pathetic creatures who could never learn a lesson properly. But apparently, there are those like you who can learn, who can change. That's one more reason why I can't stand you witches,aliens or humans. It infuriates me when I can't predict how you'll behave."

red skull grimaced. "So it would seem. But it matters not. You may have hindered our plan, but you have not stopped it. You're only delaying the inevitable."

rj clenched her fist. "We'll see about that. I wonder how your precious leader will handle my powers."

red skull squirmed. "No, I won't let you interfere with him!"

kawaki's voice was cut off, and he and red skull fell to the ground, blood gushing out of a deep cut Kawaki had in his side.

The heroes looked up at the hole in the ceiling and could hear something moving above them.

apollo frowned. "This is bad."

Charlie nodded grimly. "He's right. Something's coming. Something awful."

lucy pulled Kawaki away from the center, while rj and the others tried to keep an eye on both Bradley and the ceiling.

A mass of shadows began to descend slowly into the room, and landed next to red skull, who was dusting herself off. The shadows fell to the ground, revealing Pride."

rj glanced at Pride and Bradley grimly,Seeing his chance, Bradley grabbed two of the discarded swords of the dead warriors and rushed forward, catching the group by surprise. Thinking quickly, rj created a spell circle. She was able to scorch the left side of Bradley's face, but he did not stop, and kicked rj in the chest, sending her sliding across the room. He then impaled both of rj's palms with his swords, pinning him in place. Rj yelled in pain.

king cried out in alarm. "Rj!"

But there was nothing he or any of them could do, as Pride used his shadows to force them all to retreat.

red skull bent down to pick up the tray, which still had the black dust in it. "Very good. A job well done, Bradley.

pride's shadows swarmed around rj and Pride unexpectedly stabs him through his back to use him as a raw human sacrifice in the process. A Transmutation Circle under them then activates;

Pride looked down at rj disdainfully. "Well, Rachel belos, looks like you're our fifth."

Bradley smiled grimly. "That's right, the last one."

With the enemy focused on Kawaki healed his wounds and others were watching the proceedings in horror.

Pride frowned. "I was really hoping that we wouldn't have to resort to this, but there is no choice. We have run out of time now."

Bradley looked down at rj. "Whether you like it or not, we're going to force you to open the portal. Prepare yourself."

"No, I won't do it!" Rj said.

"As I said, it doesn't matter if you want to. Pride has the power to assimilate the abilities of others and red skull possesses knowledge of human transmutation. Together, they have the necessary formula."

Several of Pride's shadows wrapped themselves around rj, and Pride looked at Bradley.

"she's safely pinned. Move back, Wrath. Now." Pride ordered.

Bradley obeyed and withdrew his swords. Once he was out of the circle, he glanced back.

"I wonder, what will be taken from you in exchange, Mustang?"

pride clapped her hands and pressed them to the ground so that they were touching where the circles connected, and activated them.

Alchemical energy began to surge, and rj screamed.

Looking horrified, Lincoln rushed forward, clearly trying to stop whatever they were doing.

Lincoln cried. "No, stop it!"

Charlie shrieked. "Don't! You'll get caught up in it, too!"

Apollo stepped forward, a dark expression on his face. "King Bradley. I have a score to settle with you. You were the one who help the monsters presided over the massacre of my people, the destruction of my village. And now, you're about to do the very same thing to the multiverse."

He held out his hand. "You are a despicable monster, and you shall suffer the wrath of God."

Bradley raised an eyebrow. "God, you say? How interesting. I remember one of your religious leaders said something similar to me during the war, right before I killed him."

Apollo's frown deepened.

"Tell me, where was your God when your village was torn apart? Why is he content to sit by and let your people suffer, while the ones who benefited from the war live comfortable lives? Just how long does your God plan to wait before striking me down? There may be higher powers that govern the laws of the universe, but the idea that there's a benevolent deity watching over this world who gives a damn about all life is just absurd."

The others looked at the standoff between Bradley and Apollo warily, feeling the tension rising.

"Open your eyes. God is nothing more than a man-made construct created to inspire fear and promote order. If you want to see me struck down for all the atrocities I've committed, use your own hand to do so, not God's."

Apollo let out an angry roar and launched himself forward, beginning his fight with the homunculus.

While the two of them clashed, lucy gestured at the others.

The group followed her, hoping for the best as the fight behind them intensified.
