Chapter 38: Sleeping Beauty
Jazz was currently in the living room of Fenton Works reading a psychology book. Danny was out patrolling the town with his friends and her parents were having their annual date night.
She closed her book and checked the time. It was almost 7:30pm. Danny would be back soon so she'd need to start dinner soon. The redhead walked to the fridge and grabbed some vegetables to start on a salad. The front door opened and slammed shut. Guess Danny was home now.
"Jazz are you in the kitchen?"
"Yes!"
Several footsteps were heard and Jazz turned to greet Danny and his friends as well. "Are you guys staying for dinner?"
Tucker eyed the veggies in the sink. "Depends on what you're having."
"Whatever just feels right. I was planning on making salad and maybe a pasta."
The teens nodded and spread out around the high tech kitchen. Tucker tapped on the fridge to see inside. "I'll never get over how cool your parents' inventions are! The kitchen alone is beyond what even Sam's family has."
Danny rubbed the back of his head. "I wouldn't go that far. They're just simple engineers researching clean energy."
Sam grabbed some flour from one of the cupboards. "Danny there's nothing simple about your parents."
Jazz snorted. That was the understatement of the century. "How was your patrol tonight? Make a citizens arrest tonight?"
"No, but Sam scared the pants off Wes and Dash when they were making out at the park."
"It's not my fault they have zero self awareness skills!"
Tucker was trying and failing to open a package of chicken. "You purposely used quiet footsteps and put fake fangs in your mouth!"
The goth girl rolled her eyes. "I can't just keep scaring you all the time. It gets boring after awhile."
The Fenton siblings laughed at the antics of the other teens. Jazz slowly tuned out her brother and his friends. She sighed in content, her life was perfect.
"It's not true!"
"Huh?" Jazz looked around. She was laying on the couch in the living room of Fenton Works, a psychology book laid forgotten on the floor. She checked the clock on the wall. It was only 7:30pm. "I must've fallen asleep."
The front door open and slammed shut. Sitting up and turning around Jazz was met with her younger brother and his two best friends. "Did that psychology book finally put you to sleep Jazz? Its not like you to fall asleep while reading."
"I'm fine, I probably studied too much and crashed."
"Are you sure?"
"We can prepare dinner for you if you want?"
"Just lay back down and let us handle everything."
The trio all had the same concerned look on their face. The older girl gave a weak smile. "Only if you let me help."
No one disagreed so the teens all went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. "What should we make for dinner?"
Danny hummed in thought. "How about pizza?"
"Regular share size or personal mini."
"Best to do mini."
They each set out to make their own pizzas, most of the were round... except for Tucker's. "Uh Tuck why'd you make your dough into the shape of a triangle?"
"I'm making as big of a slice a pizza I can."
"Weird but okay."
Jazz walked over to the oven and set it to the proper temperature for preheating. "So what did you guys do today?"
"Danny almost got kidnapped by one of Batman's rogues since he and Dick Grayson look alike."
The red haired girl seemed puzzled. "Why would Batman's villains be in Amity Park?"
It was the trio's turn to be confused. "What's Amity Park? We live in Gotham."
"YOU'RE ALL LYING!"
Possible Trigger Warning
"What?" Jazz blinked and looked out the window. She was in her parent's high tech RV. "I could've sworn I was just in the kitchen..."
"You were out like a light, Jazzypants. Did you not sleep well last night?" She looked up at the once familiar voice. Hearing it filled her heart with sadness.
"I'm fine dad, just a strange dream that's all." Her smile didn't quite reach her eyes and neither did the gaze the older man was trying to meet. She looked back outside to watch the passing cityscape. "Where are we going?"
Another familiar voice called from the driver's seat. "Don't you remember sweetie? Your brother was touring with his friend in Haley's Circus and tonight's his special night."
"Right, I remember now." That was a lie. She remembered nothing about the trip they were on. Her head was starting to hurt from trying to remember. This never happened! What was wrong with her!? Something in the distance caught the teen's eye. "What is that?"
It began as a blur until it became clear enough to be seen as a sleek black car. It was heading straight for them.
Jazz jumped out of her seat. "MOM LOOK OUT FOR THA-" It was too late. The car rammed straight into theirs. The redhead could've sworn that she heard maniacal laughter among all the other noise. She saw the unmoving bodies of her parents at the front of the RV.
Half her dad's body was through the windshield, despite his seatbelt still on. While her mom's entire body just looked wrong. Her head lulled to the side unnaturally, her arms appeared to be dislocated and shards of glass could be seen sticking out of her skin. The car had hit her and with the speed it had been going had definitely killed the woman on impact.
"BOTH MY PARENTS ARE DEAD!"
"Mommy!" Jazz screamed as she sat up. Nothing was making sense anymore. She started crying.
Maddie Fenton burst into the room with her husband hot on her heels. "What's wrong sweetie?"
"Did you have a bad dream?"
The small girl continued crying, unable to say anything. What was going on? Why did it feel like she kept experiencing different things? Her lungs and face hurt from the amount of crying.
Jack sat on the small bed. "It was that bad huh. Why don't we go get a midnight snack to take your mind off it?"
Jazz slowly nodded, still unable to speak. Her room looked more childish than she remembered. How old was she again? Her hands looked so small.
Jack attempted to pick his daughter up but recoiled as soon as he touched her. "Jazzy your hot to the touch!"
She'd felt warm the entire time but thought nothing of it. Was she really that hot? Jazz grabbed her chest in pain. Why did her chest hurt so much? "It hurts..."
Maddie tried to feel her daughter's forehead when she noticed the little girl's eyes. Why were they golden?
Jazz reached out for her parents. "What's happening to me?" Something was burning, she could smell smoke. Looking down the red head saw it was her bed. Small flames licked at her equally small body but she felt none of it. Another pang of pain made Jazz grip her chest. The flames ingulfed her completely. "Help me!"
The pain became too much to bare for her small frame and she let out one last blood curdling scream before collapsing.
"MY SISTER IS DEAD!"
Jazz fell off the bed she had been laying in. Where was she!? Was this another dream!?
"MY ENTIRE FAMILY IS GONE AND THEY AREN'T COMING BACK!"
The red haired teen clutched her head in pain. No this was real and that was the voice of her younger brother.
"Princess you're finally awake!" A ghost dressed as a servant bowed at her before helping the teen back onto the bed. "Are you alright?"
"I'm -I'm alright, thank you."
"I'll let her highness know your awake!"
Jazz grabbed the ghost before they could leave. "Before you go. Can you tell me why I'm in the Ghost Zone and why you called me princess?"
