Red viewed all the matches. This was like the 3rd time and he still couldn't tell if Zim had grown in height. In the racing game he was in a dome cart, and the other two were simulations so only their avatar and in game character was visible. While Zim definitely looked taller that could have been a result of the game. Simulations were able to make the user appear taller or shorter or older or younger depending on the parameters of said simulation.
"Turn it off." Said Red as he grew tired of being disappointed.
"You think we should just send someone down to check on him?" Asked Purple who was standing next to his co-leader.
"No, this has to remain on the hush-hush, just in case." Said Red.
If what Sizz-Lorr said was true, and the wrong irken found out the results could be devastating. Imagine all irkens running to Earth to get taller… just the thought caused red to shiver.
"Well if Zim remains in the top three we'll see him at the winner circle." Purple said.
"Yes…" Red agreed. "…So for once we actually want him to be victorious!"
That last word red said in a more Zim-like tone.
"What do we do if he is you know…" Said Purple.
"Not sure yet, but if he is we definitely can't let it get out." Said Red.
"Of course not, but what would "we" do?" Purple asked again.
Red smiled slightly.
"OH, I don't know, but depending on the results…" He replied.
"…A nice long vacation on earth may be in order."
"He's not in his room, he's not answering his communicator." Said Gaz upon returning to the restaurant.
"Oh, please your brother probably just got all distracted as u…"
"No, Zim! Somethings up somethings been up since we got here and…"
Just then Gaz looked to try and call her brother again but something on the communicator caught her eye.
"Oh, there's a message." She said as she played it.
"Hey Gaz, sorry but I forgot to charge my communicator, so I'm leaving it in the hotel room. I got invited to dinner by a friend actually so… guess I'll see you later bye." Said Dib in a voice note.
"See, you were all worried for nothing." Said Zim.
Gaz breathed a sigh of relief.
"You're not at all shocked that Dib has a friend on this planet?" Asked Gaz as she sat down on the chair facing Zim.
"I'm more shocked the Dib-Monkey has any friends…" Zim said with a chuckle.
Gaz chuckled lightly too. Though she still couldn't shake the feeling…
…Something was off.
Dib sat at the restaurant. It wasn't far from his hotel room, but he hadn't eaten here. He waited as the person who invited him had yet to show up.
"Can I get you a glass of water sir?" Asked the waiter robot.
"Sure." Dib said.
As the robot filled his glass Dib looked around the restaurant. It was about half full. He wondered whether or not his vouchers would cover him here, or if his mysterious friend was footing the bill. As he looked at the menu… it was pretty pricey. While Dib was no expert he understood that the universal currency was monies and based on how much monies it was for soup, if he had to pay this himself, he may be in a bit of trouble.
Also, he didn't have his communicator with him, so if this was some sort of trap, well he doubted that whoever this was would do anything in a public place like this, but just in case he had… his gauntlets. These were more or less mirrored after his dad's robotic arms, though not nearly as destructive.
"Good day Dib." Said someone behind him. He turned around and saw…
"Wait, I know you…" He said. "…You're that coordinator that didn't want Zim in the tournament."
"Oh, that was just to annoy him and your sister." She replied as she took a seat across from him. "I knew he'd win his appeal."
"Oh… well I'm all for annoying Zim, but…"
"Let's order first. Then I'll answer your questions." She stated.
Despite seeing her face to face Dib couldn't tell who she was. She was still wearing her uniform.
How is she going to eat? He thought.
"So, are you the one who got me the VIB seating?" He asked after they were done ordering.
"I thought you'd enjoy the games better from a front-row seat." She replied.
Hmm, perhaps this is the one Skoodge warned me about. Dib thought to himself.
"So, what do you have against Zim and my sister?" He asked.
"Oh, Zim wouldn't know where to start with that one. Your sister just happens to be his partner." She replied.
"Oh… well what do you want with me?" He asked.
"To enjoy dinner with a friend." She replied.
"You keep saying that, but I don't even know who you are." He said.
"Of course you do…" She replied.
"I mean… we talk all the time."
Dib thought to himself… he didn't really talk with much people. Mostly just his sister and Zim, the swollen eyeball, a couple others… wait…
"It's you!?" He accused/asked.
"Yup." She answered. "And it is Saturday on earth."
Dib's mouth went wide open.
"You… You're an alien?" He asked.
"What gave me away?" She replied.
Dib slapped his face. "That's why you believed me on everything Zim-related."
"Disappointed?" She asked. "Is it really that terrible that I'm not human?"
"Well, I just thought someone back home finally believed me that's all." Dib told her.
"I did." She replied.
"No, I meant someone on earth." Dib said.
"So did I." She replied.
"What?" Asked Dib but just then their food arrived and he was more interested in seeing her face…
…It wasn't like she could eat with the mask on.
Gaz plopped on the bed. Dinner with Zim was good, but they both knew they had to get back early. Tomorrow their senses needed to be sharp, sharp as a crystal's big toe said Zim.
Gaz wondered whether or not that was offensive to the species, but didn't think too much on it as she turned in bed and tried to get some sleep. She looked at her brothers bed. It was empty.
Must still be out with his "friend" She thought.
Part of her wanted to go look for him, but she had to get her sleep. Tomorrow was the final set of games and they were only just ahead of the Plookesians, so there was definitely no taking it easy.
knock* *knock*
Couldn't be Dib, he had a key.
"Who is it?" Asked Gaz.
"Message for Gazlene Membrane." Said a robotic voice.
Gaz once again received a ring-like device that played a holographic video once having identified that it was her and she was alone.
"Hello, just thought you would like to know you're brother is having a good time."
Gaz eyes shot open as she watched a recording of who Gaz was having dinner with. It was that coordinator who was tried to keep Zim from coming to the tournament. She growled as she watched them talk and generally seemed to be having a good time.
She threw the device at the wall, shattering it and thus stopping the recording.
"Dib!" She yelled as she stomped around the hotel room.
It all made sense now. Him getting special VIB seating, how the coordinator seemed to always know where he was… so this was his "friend."
Still though what was all this. What was the endgame here? Not like she was hurting Dib or something. Or was she?
Gaz had to find out as she opened the hotel room door…
And ran right into said brother.
*1 hour earlier*
She did it. Dib was watching her the whole time… and even he couldn't figure out how she did it.
She ate the whole meal with the mask still on. Even dessert. Everything without even shifting said mask.
"Well that was lovely, don't you think?" She asked him.
"Yeah… good food." He said.
"Better company." She said causing a slight stir in the young man.
During the meal, Dib had asked her a few questions. Some she claimed she didn't want to answer just yet, but she did tell him something very important. Apparently, she too had only recently come to Arcadikon. She claimed like Zim she lived on Earth but said she was doing some sort of study and had no interest in taking over the planet.
Dib wasn't sure if he could believe her or not. On the one hand this was the person he had confided in for about a year. On the other hand part of him wondered if she really was being his friend or just using him. It wouldn't be the first time a girl used him. Once Zetta seemed like she was flirting with him but in the end she was just trying to pick his brain. He remembered after she got that A in the science final, how quickly she was to go back to treating him like the weird kid.
"Well anyway, I should probably head back. I'm glad we still got to have our Saturday chat." The coordinator told him as she got up to leave.
"Wait, one more question?" He asked.
"Yes?"
"Why me?" He asked.
"Why you what?" She asked back.
"Out of all the humans on earth, why communicate with me?" He asked. "Is it part of your study?"
Even with the mask on Dib could hear a slight chuckle in before she answered.
"My study is work…" She said as she turned to leave. "…I would more classify our time together as…"
"…recreation."
*present time*
Gaz turned in bed. Dib had told her about the nice dinner he had with the alien currently trying to drive her crazy. Perhaps that was the whole point of this. Drive her crazy by treating her brother like he was royalty.
But she couldn't let that get to her. No, she had to get her sleep for tomorrow. After that they would be heading back to earth and whoever this coordinator would be gone forever…
"Oh, by the way, Gaz…" Said her brother from the next bed.
"I told you I needed sleep."
"Yeah, but I forgot to tell you…" He insisted. "…Apparently she's an alien doing some kind of study on Earth."
"ack" Dib gasped as he was yanked out of his bed.
"What did you say?" She asked in a mono yet threatening tone.
"Um… what did I say?" He nervously replied.
"Did you just say that the coordinator, who tried to keep me and Zim out of the tournament, drove me crazy with concern for you, and is your secret alien friend lives on Earth? Is that what you are telling me?" She asked her voice getting more and more dark and scary with each line said.
"Um… I was… but now I don't think I am telling you anymore." He said with a nervous smile at the end.
Gaz sighed as she calmed herself.
"You know what no, this is what she wants and I won't give it to her." Said Gaz as she went back to her bed.
"Good night." She said after turning away from him.
She had her suspicions but everything he just told her confirmed it. The coordinator was definitely doing all this to annoy her, throw her off her game, trying to make her and Zim lose.
However tomorrow the two of them were going to show up, alert and…
…completely demolish the other teams.
Tallest Red waited in anticipation. Today was the last day and if Zim made it to the top three then they would be able to confirm his height. They were in first place, so it was definitely pretty likely. However it was only the halfway mark, so there still was a decent chance that… well this was Zim so all the plans would fail in an epic fireball of chaos.
"They start yet?" Asked Purple as he joined his co-leader in the command deck.
"Nope, just giving the introductions and showing the leaderboard again." Red Replied.
"Okay then, taking all bets, all bets that Zim is on the podium." Said Purple causing many of the crew to place bets against Zim being in the top three.
Red thought to himself for a moment. He had won his last bet so perhaps taking another chance on the non-invader…
"I'll put 500 monies that Zim's team wins the entire thing!"
Dib sat in his VIB seat. The 4th game was about to begin. It was some sort of extraction-like shooter thing. The teams would have to work together to get the target while trying to prevent the other teams from acquiring it.
Dib had never seen one like this. 10 teams all going after one objective and needing to bring it back to their base while trying to hold off 9 other teams. It was actually kind of cool. There was one problem, it required actual tactics and Zim didn't have any of that. Sure he made plans but many failed due to lack of execution.
Either way, Dib said a quick prayer for his sister and Zim and then sat back…
…and enjoyed the show.
Thank you for all who made it to the end. Don't forget to leave a review.
May God bless you all.
