"Once again, thanks for having me." A dark-haired man said, entering the Templar's domain. "Not many places a Psion isn't met with suspicion."
"We've all been there. Don't worry, this is a sanctuary for all of us." Geist said, beckoning the man inside. They managed to make their temporary base in a small fortress in a Northern forest from what looked like ages ago. It suited them just fine. "Your name?"
"Call me Geiger." The man said, eyes shifting around as he followed Geist inside. However, he was soon stopped by another man.
Old and haggard, many years of strife etched clearly into a scarred face.
But the thing that was stopping him were his eyes.
Glowing, unseeing yet with a glare that froze him in his tracks.
"I see you noticed my Closest; Zhang." Geist said, snapping him out of it.
"Why's he looking at me like that?" Geiger asked.
"Very funny." Zhang said, voice very much fitting his appearance.
"Uhm, he's blind… accident at the start of the war." Geist whispered at Geiger.
"My ears work just fine, Geist." Zhang answered. "Who's this?"
"Straight to the point, as per usual." Geist said with a smile. "A potential new disciple. He calls himself Geiger."
"Because you're radioactive?" Zhang asked. "Or because you're vigilant?"
"I-I never gave it that much…"
"Come now, Zhang. Be nice. We welcome all, remember?" Geist said, some exasperation seeping into his voice. Zhang just sighed.
"Welcome aboard…. Geiger." He said, nodding his head, though it was clear he still didn't like saying that name. With that, Geist ushered him away from Zhang.
"Give him some time. Soon enough, you'll get along swimmingly."
"I'm sure of it."
After a tour, Geiger excused himself from Geist, saying he'd like to explore the forest on his own somewhat.
"Do come back before dark. There are some… things lurking."
"I'll keep it in mind." Geiger said, before heading out.
Soon, he was far enough into the trees that he was sure no one followed him, as he took out a phone.
"This is Geiger…. Yeah, I'm in… No trouble. It's as you said, Geist will trust anyone with… Nah, I don't think he'll be an issue." He said, taking out a gun from his clothes. "Trust me, this will be a piece of…" A twig snapped, as Geiger turned around.
Nothing.
"I'll get back to you." He said, hanging up, before hiding his gun and sighing. "Just random forest noises…"
Someone struck him from behind, knocking him down and the wind out of him.
"What the…?"
"You really taught you could fucking lie to mind readers?" A voice came from behind, as Geiger turned around to see Zhang approaching him. Scrambling, he took his gun. Zhang was unphased and managed to take it before he could even aim. Now he stared down the barrel.
"G-geist won't stand for th-...!" Before he could even finish his sentence, he was shot point blank in the head.
"Geist doesn't have to know." Zhang whispered, lowering the gun. He took a deep breath. "This is my burden to bear…" With that he grabbed the body's ankle and started dragging it away.
He was washing his hands back home.
"You shouldn't be doing that for so long." Came from behind, Geist. "You're rubbing them raw."
"Not like I can tell." Zhang muttered, before getting up and flicking them dry. "How did things with Geiger go?"
"He never showed up again. Probably decided we were… dangerous" Geist said, letting his usual confident mask slip a bit. "I want to be welcoming to all Psions, but sometimes…" He sighed.
"You're soft." Zhang said, though with a smile."But that's precisely what you need to be." His eyes flicked down. "Even for people that don't deserve it."
Geist just sighed, placing a hand on Zhang's cheek and leaning their foreheads against each other.
"You deserve my softness just as much as anyone else." Again Zhang's eyes flicked away. Avoiding eye contact even if it didn't make a difference.
"If you say so. Just… Please stay soft."
"Don't worry, I will." With that, Geist left him, as Zhang started to rub his hands again.
"I'll make sure you'll never have to lose it." He whispered.
