-Vale-
In the air transportation where the students to be are riding, Yang hugs her younger sister in excitement as she hears that she will be attending Beacon with her. "I am so glad my baby sister is going to Beacon with me! This is the most exciting day ever!" Yang exclaimed in happiness.
"Dah, Yang! Knock it off! I just got lucky when Ozpin saw me fighting the thugs that were robbing the dust store last night." Ruby complained. On the one hand, she is excited that she is going to Beacon two years earlier. But on the other hand, she doesn't feel like she is blending well with people that were two years older than her.
"Come on, sis! What's wrong with being among the crowd. Sooner or later, you might have the bee's knees when they noticed what you got." Yang tried to encourage her sister, but to no avail.
"But I don't want to be the "bee's knees!" I just to be a normal girl, with normal knees!" Ruby argued.
"So, what do you have for normal knees?" Yang asked, teasingly.
"The scythe I used...it's always my best friend." Ruby said as she folded her arms.
"Wow, we are so high up in the air bus! Am I right?!" Nora showed up next to the sisters, causing Ruby to fall back, but Yang catches her as they were taken by surprise. Ren was dragged from the arm by Nora as she wants to introduce themselves to them.
"Whoa, where did you come from?!" Yang exclaimed in surprise.
"Nora Valkyrie, nice to meet ya!" Nora said as she hugged the two sisters. Happy to make new friends. "Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot to mention, this is Ren." Nora introduced them to Ren.
"Nice to meet you two. Hm?" Ren bowed for a greeting, then looks at Ruby. Judging by her height and seemingly younger than the rest of the first-year students. That just got him curious enough to ask. "Are you a first-year?"
"Yes, why did you ask?" Ruby asked, confused.
"You seemed to be a little younger than the rest of us." Ren points out. Ruby was taken aback. Causing Yang to cooly speak on her sister's behalf. "Oh, that. She's 15. But wanna know something amazing about her?" Asked Yang.
"Yang, knock it off!" Ruby demanded, not wanting her sister to show off and embarrass her. But Yang isn't taking no for an answer as she continue to boast to raise her younger sister's confidence.
"She used a scythe! And Ozpin happened to see this and decided to enroll her two years earlier to Beacon! Isn't this great?!" Yang hugged her sister.
Ruby squinted her eyed in embarrassment. Words cannot describe how inferior she feels as she just wants a normal headstart.
"Impressive." Ren calmly stated with a nod. Ruby blushed at the compliment. "Uh...yeah. I just hate to show off or anything."
"It's understandable." Ren agreed. Then he hears giggling. Ren's eyes turned to see other girls whispering and looking at him. But Nora was not pleased to hear that, and neither was Ren because during his combat school days, he never liked this attention. Ren simply ignored the girls behind him and focused on himself and Nora, as they continued the conversation with Ruby and Yang.
"So, you can use a scythe that also acts as a sniper gun?! That's so cool!" Nora squealed as she jumps for joy. "You know what? I have a hammer, and it also acts as a grenade launcher!"
"A grenade launcher?! Cool, now you made me want to upgrade my weapon even more!" Ruby squealed. Then Yang nudges her as she smiles at the sight of the conversation.
"What?" Ruby asked. Yang laughed, "Nothing."
-Beacon Academy-
In the main tower, Professor Ozpin wad sitting on his desk as he speaks to Glynda. Glynda folded her arms as she wasn't sure about the idea Ozpin had told her about.
"I am not sure if it's a good idea, Ozpin." Glynda began as she went through the files. "Recruiting the first-year students? Wouldn't that be a risk for them to take?" She asked. Ozpin, while firm on the idea, it is a risk he must take to prepare the students.
"I do not like this either, Glynda. However, these students might be our hope. We must prepare them for the battle no one can escape from." Ozpin said, he hung his head low. Knowing the risk of recruiting. But he decided to wait until the Second Semester to recruit them.
"As much as I don't like the idea. Perhaps there won't be any time to waste. We'll start in the Second Semester once the students know their way around the Academy." Glynda concluded.
As Glynda left to the Ballroom to start the inauguration ceremony for the first-year students. Ozpin went through the files again. There he has the files of student recruits for a program that allows students for something big.
"If only there was some way I could..." He paused for a moment as he looked at the files, one of them was about Ruby Rose. One of the few candidates for recruitment. "No, it has to be done. I am not sure how much time there may be." He sighs. "For now, all I can do now is wait." He brought himself into deep thought as his eye closed.
Ruby and Yang continued their trip after meeting Nora and Ren. "So, the minute you fought a couple of robbers, that's when Ozpin took notice and enroll you." Ren looked at Ruby with curiosity.
"Oh, that's why Ozpin wanted you to come to this school!" Nora said. "Talk about golden luck!" She then quickly gives Ruby a tight hug. The young teen was taken aback from a new friend they just met. "U-um. Thanks." Then Nora's hug got too tight. "Can you...let go now?" Realizing Ruby can't breath due to the hug. And lets her go. "Sorry. I am just psyched to have new buddies. Ren and his cousin have been my only friends since we were little, and I have been training with them for all I can remember!"
"You two must be really close. Are you guys...?" Yang was about to teasingly ask, Nora picked up before the blonde girl can finish. Waving her hands defensively. "What?! No! We're together...AS BUDDIES FOR LIFE! We're not together-together!" Nora said. Yang blinked. It's rather assuming for her whenever a guy and a girl are close, it was easy for her to think they are dating. But since Nora clarified that they are just friends, she'll just drop the subject. Ren blushed nervously as he hears Nora said the last part; together-together.
"Okay, if you say so." Yang said.
"Say, can we hang for some time? Cause Ren here can use something to get out of his reserved self for a little bit." Nora asked while teasingly looking at Ren. Ren's faced turned red. "N-Nora! I'm not that reserved." Ren then composed himself as he looks at the Xiao Long sisters. "But regardless, it would be nice if we can hang out." He agrees that he must make friendships to learn what it takes to become a huntsman. Nora would have no problem making friends since she has an outgoing personality. "Originally, we are to enroll into Haven Academy. But my aunt said that Beacon is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I must take for life experiences. So here we are." Ren adds.
"Sounds cool. Maybe we can talk about how to upgrade our weapons. Or maybe hang out to get some Boba tea." Said Ruby. Thinking of Boba tea has Nora's face melted in a happy mood. "Oh, Boba tea. With strawberry popping boba." Nora sighed. Ren shook her gently, which returned her back to reality. She shook her head after dazing.
"Yeah, sounds great." Nora nodded in agreement.
Suddenly, the news was broadcasted on the hologram screen near the windows of the airbus.
"Notorious crime boss – Roman Torchwick – has escaped from prison. And was last seen in the Vale City dust shop in an attepted robbery. And he is deemed armed and dangerous."
"Hey, that's the guys from last night." Ruby whispered to Yang. Recognizing the man who threatened the old dust shop owner the previous night.
"Anyone with any information was to call the VPD."
"Yikes. Way to stop a robbery, Sis. But try not to be reckless next time." Yang said with a mix of a praise, but also a warning. Ruby huffed in annoyance as she sees a similarity of herself in her big sister. "Look who's talking? You're one to start a fight in a night club months ago." Ruby snapped back.
"Geez, these guys started it." Yang sighed. Ruby remembered the night she beat up a crime boss she called "Junior." Which Ruby cannot help but laugh at the thought of that name.
"Seriously, that was you that night fighting Roman Torchwick? I want in to fight him next time!" Nora pumped her fist in excitement.
"Nora, no. You do realized we need a huntsman license before we can even think about fighting crime." Ren points out. Ruby felt a little shame hearing this. "But, it's actually good thing you took action for this, Ruby. Otherwise, those robbers would've hurt any people around. My father would say that the worst thing about taking action is not taking action at all." Ren said with a mix of reprimand and encouragement of Ruby's actions.
"Um...thanks, Ren." Ruby replied, sheepishly.
Then they heard gagging. They turned around to see Jaune struggling to hold as he feels the need to vomit. Pyrrha rans her hand on his back in concern for Jaune. "Just a little bit longer, Jaune. Are you feeling okay?" Blake was along with them.
"I've taken you are getting airsick. I think there is a room somewhere where he can rest up. It might hold his sickness for a few minutes before." Blake advised.
"Oh, good idea, Blake. Maybe there has to be somewhere for him to just..." But it was too late, Jaune vomitted. And the vomit landed on the floor. Much to the disgust of other students nearby.
"Aw, dude!"
"Gross!"
"What the heck!" Pyrrha and Blake led Jaune away as he still feels sick. "Sorry! Sorry!" Pyrrha apologized on his behalf.
Weiss is looking at the window. Not bothered to watch the scene going on. As she was just trying to keep her mind in the clear. Her thoughts about the blue-haired boy came back.
I wonder if I will meet that boy again. Ugh, why am I thinking about him?! I can't get distracted by this!
As Weiss continued to let her thoughts of a few scenarios of how things should go in Beacon. How she will prove to be more than an heiress of the SDC. Then she sees Pyrrha, Blake and Jaune passing by.
"Huh, isn't that Pyrrha Nikos? I know I have seen her in the articles. Never thought she'd be in Beacon." Weiss said to herself, having to recognize Pyrrha from the articles of her academic achievements.
Then the airbus finally came to a stop. All the first-year students get off and walked towards the school. Ruby and Yang see Ren and Nora off to meet at the ballroom.
"See you at the school!" Nora waved. Ren just nodded.
"I will!" Said Ruby. Yang just wrapped her arm around her sister. "See, Rubes? It's not so bad to make new friends."
"Let's not make a big deal out of this." Ruby finished before the two sisters head towards the school building.
Author's note: What could Ozpin be planning for Ruby and other first-year students he planned to recruit for something? If you want to find out, follow this fanfic. It might take a while for me to come up with another chapter. But happy reading!
