Tarzan fell asleep after a hard day of trying to figure out what he was with Zugor and failing. Tarzan thought that it could only mean one thing. That he was nothing. Tarzan wished above anything to know what he was and then he heard a woman's voice saying "Tarzan. Tarzan". She then shook him a little and said "Wake up baby. Baby, you need to wake up".
Tarzan opened his eyes and said "Wha. Mom".
The woman said "Sweetheart, you need to wake up".
Tarzan fully saw the woman and saw that she had red hair and green eyes. She had pale skin and with no hair. Tarzan realised that she was like him and was amazed to finally see someone like him. Tarzan asked, "Who are you".
The woman answered "My name is Alice. I'm your mother".
Tarzan responded "No you're not. My mom is an".
Alice interrupted "Kala, she's your adopted mother. She took you in after I was gone".
Tarzan said "So, you really are my mom".
Alice said "Yeah, I'm your mum sweetheart". Tarzan and Alice hugged, and Alice said "I'm missed you so much baby. I love you so much".
Tarzan asked "Where have you been mom. Why did you leave me".
Alice answered "I never left baby. I would never leave you".
Tarzan asked, "Then where did you go".
Alice got up and held out her hand. She said, "Let me show you". Tarzan grabbed it and Alice lifted him and place him on her shoulders. Tarzan giggled at this, and Alice said, "It's a long journey, hold on tight".
Alice carried Tarzan out of the cave while Zugor was still asleep, and they began their journey together. Tarzan was amazed at how his mother walked and Alice carried him across rocks, fallen trees, passed sleeping leopards, and a 30 ft snake until they reached the treehouse. Tarzan asked, "Are we here mom".
Alice answered "We're here baby. Now it's just inside and I'll tell you everything".
Alice carried him up to the door and as they entered Tarzan was amazed at what he saw. He had never seen anything like this in his life and as Alice put him down and Tarzan entered. He came across a photo and said "Hey mom. This, this is you".
Alice said, "Yeah it is baby, and that's you".
Tarzan was amazed at seeing the photo of him as a baby and Tarzan asked, "Who is he".
Alice answered, "That's your dad".
Tarzan asked, "My dad".
Alice said "Yeah, we loved you so much". Tarzan placed it down and as he searched around, he found two skeletons and was horrified by it. Tarzan hurried behind his mother's legs, and she knelled to him and said "There's nothing to be afraid of baby. They are why we're here. That's me. That's me and your dad".
Tarzan was shocked by this and Tarzan asked, "If you're dead, how are you here".
Alice answered "Because you wanted to know who you were. I'm showing you baby. I'm showing you who you are. You Tarzan are a human".
Tarzan asked, "A human".
Alice picked Tarzan up and said "Yes. A human".
Tarzan asked "So, I'm not an ape".
Alice answered "No".
Tarzan accepted this and asked, "What happened".
Alice answered "Sabor".
Tarzan afraid said "The leopard".
Alice answered "Yes. It came in here while we were asleep and attacked. I only had time to cover you before it, it. Before it killed me and your dad".
Tarzan asked, "How did I survive".
Alice answered "With you covered Sabor couldn't find you. I saved you and even though you were crying, it couldn't find you. You were safe until Kala heard your cries and came here. She found you and saw that you were alone and needed a mother. So, she took you, took you and loved you, and kept you safe".
Tarzan said "I can't go back to her. I miss her but I can't go back. I nearly got her killed and a danger to the family. She said that she'd risk her own life for me".
Alice lowered Tarzan and said, "You know what, so did I". Tarzan was shocked by this and Alice said, "I risked my own life to save you".
Tarzan asked "Why. Why would you risk your own life to save mine".
Alice answered, "Because I'm your mum and your life means more to me than my own".
Tarzan said "I don't like that. I don't like people doing that for me".
Alice said, "You know why we do it". Tarzan shook his head and Alice answered "Because we love you. We carry you inside us and bring you into this world. You are our responsibility and it's a mother's duty to care, love, and protect you".
Tarzan asked, "Even at the risk of your own".
Alice answered "Yeah, we wouldn't be mothers otherwise. So, Kala did what she did because she loves you".
Tarzan asked "But why does she love me so much. I'm not really hers".
Alice answered "Because there is also another thing about mothers, Tarzan. They need their children as much as their children need them".
Tarzan asked, "Mom needs me".
Alice answered, "Yes, she needs you so much. And especially since she lost her own child".
Tarzan was shocked to hear this and asked "What. Mom. Had a baby".
Alice answered "Yes. She had one and her baby, her little boy was killed by Sabor. Her baby was killed just like us. So, she needed you as much as you needed her. And she still needs you, she's nothing without you Tarzan and you need to go home to her".
Tarzan said "all right mom. I'm going back home. I'm going back home to my mom".
Alice said "You do that Tarzan. When you awake you go back home".
Tarzan was shocked to hear this and asked, "I'm asleep".
Alice answered, "Yes baby, it was the only way for us to communicate".
Tarzan said, "Then this whole thing probably hasn't been real".
Alice said "No. You're still back in the cave with Zugor but everything I told you, everything about me and this place is real. I'm real baby and I really love you. So, before you wake up, can a mother have one last hug from her little boy".
Tarzan accepted and hugged Alice. Tarzan said, "I love you mom".
Alice responded "I love you to baby. I always have and always will". Alice then moved the hair out of Tarzan's eyes and said, "You'll find your own way baby. Just be yourself and you'll know what to do. Until we meet again my little boy". Alice then kissed Tarzan on the forehead and Tarzan awoke.
Tarzan saw that Zugor was still asleep and went over to him. Tarzan said "Zugor. Zugor".
Zugor awoke and asked "What. What is it. I was having a lovely sleep".
Tarzan said, "I know what I am".
Zugor responded "Good. What are you".
Tarzan answered, "I'm a human".
Zugor asked "A human. What's that".
Tarzan answered, "It's me".
Zugor said "Good. Now, you can be a human or whatever that is".
Tarzan said "I'm going back home. My mom needs me, and I need her".
Zugor said "That's good kid. Thanks for the nest. I guess being a human isn't so bad after all".
Tarzan said, "No. No it isn't. Goodbye Zugor".
Zugor responded "Goodbye Tarzan". Tarzan left the cave and Zugor said "Good. I thought he'd never leave. Time to go back to sleep in this lovely nest he made me". Zugor then went back to sleep.
Tarzan went back toward the direction of the family when he heard something running up behind him. He then turned to see Tantor running into him and them all falling over. Tarzan saw them and said "Terk. Tantor".
Terk and Tantor said "Tarzan".
Terk said "You're alive".
Terk and Tantor said "You're alive".
Terk said "We thought you were dead. And then Tantor".
Tantor said "Heard you yell, but when got to Dark Mountain, the Zugor". Terk roared and Tantor continued "And those big apes" Terk roared again and Tantor said "And then I was stuck in a hole and Terk got eaten. Uh, sort of".
Tarzan asked, "Wait a minute, those big apes are after you".
Terk said "They're probably right behind us".
Tarzan said "Then let's get out of here. We need to go home right now".
Tarzan dragged Terk and Tantor into running back to the family when Terk asked "What happened Tarzan. We all thought you were dead".
Tarzan answered "I managed to grab onto a vine and get to a small cliff face. I then climbed up and heard what mom said about dying for me and then heard some of the other family saying that I was a danger to them, so I ran away".
Terk said "You ran away. How could you. I was devastated thinking you were gone. Me, your mom and Tantor. Right Tantor".
Tantor said "Right".
Tarzan said "I'm sorry but I'm all better now. I know that my mom needs me, and I need her".
Kala came out with three baby gorillas and said "Tarzan. Tarzan is that you".
Tarzan saw her and exclaimed "Mom". Tarzan ran to her and leaped into Kala's arms.
Kala hugged him and said, "Oh, I thought I lost you".
Tarzan responded "I'm sorry I left, mom. I didn't want to hurt you".
Kala said "Hurt me. Tarzan, you saved me".
Tarzan said "I know mom. And you saved me. Thank you for being my mom".
Kala responded, "Thank you for being my son".
Tarzan said, "Hey mom. I now know that you need me as much as I need you".
Kala answered, "I do Tarzan. I do. What made you realise that".
Tarzan answered, "A dream".
Kala said "Well, it was a smart dream".
Tarzan answered, "She was".
Kala asked, "What was that sweetie".
Tarzan said "Never mind. Let's go home".
Kala said "Yes, let's".
Kala then led Tarzan, Terk, Tantor, and the three gorilla babies back to the family. Tarzan thought about telling his mom, Terk, or Tantor about being a human but knew it didn't matter because like the story about the tree he is part of the family, and they love him no matter what. Years later when Tarzan meets fellow humans and learns about them, he realised that since he only knows that he is a human he decides to keep that information to himself because he knows nothing else. Then when his mother takes him to the treehouse and shows him where he came from, he keeps the knowledge that he learnt about this place before and what Kala did for him to spare her from the pain because this is already hard enough.
