Everyone, I'm starting this thread to talk about the most important question for every male player of this incredible great. It is the question of utmost importance, and I believe we should find an answer for it soon, for without this answer we can't call ourselfs real men!
Let's discuss all the waifus of this game! Who's the best? Who's overrated? Which one would you marry if you had the chance? And most importantly of all, which one of them looks the most hot?

Feher is much better waifu.

She's also flat, which everyone knows is terrible.

Pyrrha flew through the air.

The launching platform threw her with enough strength that the forest beneath her looked like nothing more than a blur. If she wasn't as competent as she was, she would have been quite concerned about herself right now.

It certainly was an unusual way to test new students, though.

She wasn't sure how she felt about the landing strategy being the very first skill being tested.

As far as she was aware, the landing strategy was one of the least covered topics in schools back in Mistral. The eastern kingdom had far more huntsmen and huntresses than the Bullheads they could jump out of, so teaching people how to land safely was usually considered to be a wasted effort.

The people back home simply didn't put as much importance on it.

It seemed, however, that the staff at Beacon thought otherwise regarding this issue.

Was it perhaps because the geography of Vale was that much different than the geography of Mistral? She had never really thought about it before, but it sounded like it could actually be the case.

Maybe she should have asked one of the teachers about it once she made it.

She quickly shook her head.

No matter what the reason behind this test was, however, she wasn't too worried about failing it.

The landing strategy, although not her speciality, was still a skill she was highly proficient in.

She only needed to ensure that she would land near someone she wouldn't mind being a teammate with. Although the rule about becoming partners with the first person she made eye contact with was a bit annoying, she believed she could make it work.

There were already three people she wouldn't mind partnering with, after all.

Sure, she might have come off as a bit awkward the last time she met them, but it was something she could work with.

She had plenty of experience interacting with others through the forums. With that, she would have no trouble proving to those three that she was an approachable and normal person.

Her interpersonal skills were great!

The only thing she struggled with was a genuine in-person conversation. Surely, she would be able to get past that hurdle of hers, right? It wasn't like it was some impossible skill to learn.

With a determined look, she quickly nodded her head.

She could manage that.

It was only a matter of finding them, first.

While still in the air, she quickly scanned the initiation area to see if she could find the trio she was looking for.

The Emerald Forest was huge, and there were quite a few people participating in the test. There was no guarantee that she would be able to find anyone. However, she believed that she would still be able to find at least one of them.

Thankfully, her belief turned out to be well-founded. She managed to spot a certain chameleon faunus trying to grapple onto a tree with a metal-looking whip in the distance.

A grin appeared on her face.

She found them.

With a twist, she quickly changed her weapon from the sword form into a spear and threw it in the direction of the faunus girl. Afterwards, she took out her shield, raised it above her head, and began using her Semblance on it to lead her towards the spear she had just thrown.

The shield, pushed and guided by her polarity, essentially worked as a paraglider.

She only needed to hold onto it, follow the weapon she had just thrown, and she would be able to get to her potential partner without any issues.

A genuine smile made its way onto her face as she reminisced about exactly how she came up with this landing technique.

It was actually the Arena of the Great that helped her with creating it. In that game many of the characters couldn't use their movement abilities—if they even had any—without a direct target, so they often had to use some sort of marker before activating them.

That game mechanic was what inspired her to use her spear like that.

The ability to fly with her shield by using her Semblance wasn't the difficult part of this technique; she always knew she could do that. The issue for her has always been flying towards a specific direction at the same time.

Her control over the magnetism was very powerful and precise, but it was also very mentally taxing.

There was a reason why she only ever used it to subtly interrupt her opponent's attacks in all the tournaments she had competed in.

If she had tried to fly with her shield without a guiding point, she would have either spun around in circles or accidentally broken her arm by pulling her shield too fast in one direction.

With her weapon working as a marker, however, she didn't have to worry about any of that.

She could simply focus on using her semblance on both her items and make the shield slowly pull towards it while making sure it still hovered above the ground.

It was a perfectly fine technique that had dozens of practical applications.

Still, it was a bit awkward that one of her most useful abilities only existed because she decided to play video games. If her fans learnt of that, they would either take it as an endorsement of the game or laugh at her for wasting her time playing video games in her private life.

She really hoped that none of her new teammates would act like that.

They looked like decent people; it was going to be fine.

A quiet hum escaped her.

Although, now that she thought about it, with the teams being made out of four people, they would have a perfectly sized time for the ATG as well. They could try playing it together at some point.

She wondered whether they would be willing to try it.

With her head filled with the thoughts about her potential future with the team she was striving to join, she patiently made her way down.

The first part of the initiation wasn't an issue for her at all.

She hoped it was going to stay like that once she got on the ground too.

(...)

Safely making her way onto the ground was laughably easy for Weiss. Even if she hadn't practised landing strategies before, she still would have easily been capable of landing safely thanks to her family Semblance.

The glyphs she used were a perfect tool for multiple occasions.

They allowed her to manipulate her movement, channel dust to create different types of attack, and bend the laws of reality itself on a small scale. If she ever mastered them as much as her sister did, she could also learn how to summon different beings to help with her tasks.

It was truly an ability like no other.

There were times when she wondered if she could use it for gaming as well.

Theoretically, it should have been possible. With things like time-altering glyphs and summoning, she should have been able to increase her gaming abilities to such a degree that no ordinary player would have been able to compete with her.

It would have been downright unfair if she ever were to use her semblance for gaming.

Which was why she didn't actually use her semblance for gaming at all, no matter how tempting it was.

She would do a lot of things for victory, but cheating wasn't one of them.

At the very least, she would resort to cheating when it came to things like gaming. She was more than willing to bend a rule or two in this initiation in order to ensure that she was on a team with both her friends.

As such, she was simply going to call her friends and coordinate with them that way.

There was no rule against using their Scrolls, after all.

With a guarded look, she quickly scanned the area around her.

It never hurt to be careful, though.

After seeing that she was in a rather secluded place, she cautiously took out her Scroll and called one of her friends. They hadn't planned this beforehand, so there was a chance they wouldn't pick up, but she still wanted to try.

Surely, her friends wouldn't mind answering a call from her.

They probably were thinking of the same thing!

She hoped they did think the same way as she did, at least.

At first nobody answered—the moment a couple rings had passed she began to worry she would not be able to contact her friends in the end—however, after a good few seconds the call finally went through.

"Y-Yeah?" Jaune bit out with a groan.

Weiss immediately brightened.

"Jaune, where are you?" She asked as quickly as she could; there was no time to waste. "Are you alright? You sound like you're hurt. The fall to Emerald Forest didn't hurt you that much, did it?"

Another groan echoed through her Scroll.

"I'm at the base of some big tree. I think it's directly to the east of the cliff we were launched from." The boy paused for a moment, as if to check something. "My back hurts a little from colliding with the tree, but I'm fine aside from that. What about you?"

Weiss looked around to ascertain where she was.

"If you're to the east of the cliff, then I think I'm to your north." She said. "I'll start heading south to meet you. If you want, you can try going north as well; also, make sure to leave some signs as you go. We can use them to find each other faster."

Jaune answered with a grunt.

"Alright, I'll be leaving a deep cut in every other bigger tree I find on my way."

Weiss nodded.

It wasn't going to be the easiest to spot with the whole forest being overrun by Grimm and used as a testing ground, but she could work with that.

"Okay, I'll try to use some of my Dust to create ice crystals along the way, as well."

The idea of using Dust for creating directional signs like that would have probably meant bankruptcy for most people taking this test. She didn't concern herself too deeply with it, however.

Whether she liked it or not, she had plenty of resources to spare.

"Got it." Jaune said briefly.

Weiss smiled.

Great, with both of them leaving clues behind them, they would know that they were near each other even if they somehow missed one another along the way. Now they would be able to find each other without issues.

Afterwards, they would only need to make sure that Ilia was on the same team, as well.

It was probably going to be a bit tricky, but they could manage that no problem; she was sure of it.

Weiss opened her mouth to continue the conversation with Jaune, but before she could say anything, loud growling echoed from the forest around her and interrupted her. It seemed that she would have to put her talk on hold for a moment.

The Grimm had found her.

"As much as I would like to continue our conversation, it looks like I'll have to end the call for now, Jaune." She said. "I've got some enemies to fight, and I'm going to need both my hands to deal with them."

Jaune let out a hum through the call.

"I'll leave you to it, then." The boy said. "Show them who's the best."

Weiss grinned.

"Don't worry, I will."

The Grimm—a group of basic Beowolfs—launched themselves at her.

With no time to waste, she quickly hid her Scroll, bore her weapon and dashed at the group of Grimm as well.

As she rushed forward—and was about to face the group of Grimm—Weiss couldn't help but smile a little from excitement.

The foes in front of her stood no chance against her, and she knew it was going to be a quick fight. It was the perfect occasion to show just how worthy she was of studying in this school.

Whoever was watching and grading them was bound to be impressed by what she was about to do.

This test was as good as passed already!

(...)

Ilia dangled from a tree.

The landing strategy she hastily came up with during the fall did save her from losing any aura. Unfortunately, it also left her hanging, as her whip—which she used to grab onto something so that she wouldn't instantly fall down—was now stuck in the branches of the tree.

It wasn't a difficult situation to escape.

She could simply let go of the whip or just break the top of the tree with her legs; she was strong enough to do that.

The moment she did that, though, she would be dealing with another problem.

Although, if she were to break the tree behind her, she would have ended up on the ground; she would still be without a weapon. It wouldn't have been bad on its own, but with the entire tree falling down with her, she was bound to attract attention.

She didn't fancy her chances of fighting packs of Grimm without a weapon.

The idea of simply leaving her weapon behind didn't exactly sit right with her either.

If she really were to leave her weapon like that, she would still be without a weapon, and she would still need to get it back. Sure, it would have been far safer to simply climb a tree and get it like that, but it would probably take a lot of time.

With little knowledge about how others were doing, she wasn't sure whether she could waste time or not.

There was a limited number of spots available for the potential students. She was sure that many people who were capable enough to be huntsmen in training wouldn't be able to pass in the end. The school had to find a way to eliminate some of the people taking part in the test somehow.

Were the people allowed to pass the test based on the first come, first served basis?

Was there perhaps a limited number of relics they could find instead?

Whatever the case, the time most likely wasn't on her side this time around; she needed to hurry.

Ilia let out a quiet sigh before reluctantly shifting in place and kicking the tree behind her with all her might.

A loud crack echoed through the forest, and not a moment later she was already falling down with the top part of the tree falling next to her. Her whip was still entangled in all of its branches.

The commotion would no doubt gather some attention, but she could deal with that.

She would simply have to hurry up with recovering her weapon.

As she hit the ground, Ilia immediately turned towards the canopy of branches that housed her whip.

Without wasting any time, she kicked some of the denser parts of the canopy away and began to hurriedly and methodically free her weapon from the tree's embrace. It wasn't the most difficult task, but the pressure of time made it a bit annoying.

"Why did this stupid tree have to be so dense?" She complained while sifting through the branches.

The bushes around her rustled from movement, and low growling started to echo around her.

The Grimm were approaching.

Ilia scoffed.

There was no time for fiddling around with the branches like that.

With gritted teeth, she grabbed her whip by its bladed part—of course her whip had a bladed part; it was a part sword—and pulled on it as strongly as she could.

The cuts she received from pulling her weapon like that had done some damage to her aura. Nevertheless, she managed to get her whip out of the tree, and now she had a weapon to deal with all the Grimm approaching her.

A confident grin appeared on her face.

Now that she had her weapon with her, those little Grimm weren't going to be a challenge for her at all.

As the first couple of Grimm entered her striking range, she swiftly launched her attack with a wide sweep of her whip and confidently struck the smaller group of the soulless monsters.

Her opponents fell to her attack without issues.

They might have a slight number advantage over her, but she was certain that she would be able to defeat them. It would only take a little bit of time and maybe some caution as well.

The Grimm rushed at her.

She stood her ground.

Although her weapon was also a sword, she still preferred to use it as a whip, and whips were far better at fighting in slightly bigger ranges than swords. If she had rushed at the Grimm, the battle would have turned into a sword fight for her.

As such, she would rather fight defensively, instead.

The fight wasn't a challenge for her; every time a Grimm charged at her, she would simply strike with her whip and defeat them before they could get close to her. In fact, fighting against the small swarm of Grimm was so easy that she barely even had to pay attention.

If it wasn't for the sheer number of enemies she was facing, she was sure that she would have dealt with all of them in a matter of moments.

Unfortunately, with the enemies, she was stuck in place dealing with them.

A loud thump suddenly resounded near her.

With her body tense, Ilia quickly turned to see what had made that sound.

It was a large Ursa, a giant black beast that was leagues ahead of the small fryes she was dealing with until now.

She wasn't sure she could take it on her own.

If the giant beast was on its own, she was certain that she would have been able to deal with it, no problem. The real problem was with fighting it as well as all the smaller Grimm around her at the same time.

It was a challenge she wasn't sure she could overcome.

With the Grimm all around her, running away didn't seem like the best idea, either.

Ilia gritted her teeth.

Alright, if that was what was required of her to become a proper huntress in training, then she was more than willing to give her best.

At the very least, nobody would be able to say that she gave up without trying.

The Ursa growled at her.

Ilia shifted in place.

Before they could come to blows, the Ursa collapsed to the ground as it was hit by a spinning metal shield falling down on it from above.

The very next moment, the owner of that shield followed suit and landed on the giant beast as well.

Ilia watched in awe as the person who saved her picked up her shield and looked towards her with a wide smile.

"Hello there!" The red-haired girl—Pyrrha Nikos, if she remembered correctly—greeted. "Do you need any help here? I wouldn't mind helping my future partner a little during their initiation."

Ilia let out a chuckle.

Well, it looked like her team was already decided.

She hoped her friends wouldn't mind teaming up with the red-haired celebrity.

(...)

The initiation was going quite well in Jaune's opinion.

He had managed to survive being thrown down the cliff larger than any mountain he had ever seen. He had the chance to fight a couple packs of Grimm, and he was even able to partner up with Weiss.

It has truly been a great initiation so far.

Although, he still thought that what his friend did in order to ensure they would be on the same team was a little too close to cheating than it ought to be.

"I told you, everything's going to be fine, Jaune." Weiss said, as they passed by another batch of trees. "Not only was I extremely careful in calling you, but there wasn't even a rule preventing us from using Scrolls to begin with."

Jaune grunted.

"It still feels a bit too risky, though."

Weiss rolled her eyes.

"A huntsman should always use every advantage at their disposal, no matter how underhanded it may seem." The girl said. "Do you think Grimm would care about fairness just because you didn't call for support on one of your missions?"

Jaune looked at his friend for a moment.

A sigh escaped him.

No matter how underhanded it felt, he had to give it to her. If he really became a huntsman in the future, he wouldn't hesitate to call for help, either. There was no advantage to maintaining his honour when his opponents were soulless beasts.

He really shouldn't let things like that hold him down in the future.

"Alright, I see your point." He said.

Weiss's expression brightened at once.

Jaune couldn't help but smile in response as well.

It looked like his opinion on the matter mattered quite a bit to his friend, even though she clearly already had a solid opinion on the matter. Though—when he thought about it for a little bit longer—it might have had something to do with it helping him become a better huntsman.

"Are you going to call Ilia, too?" He asked.

In all honesty, he was quite surprised his friend didn't contact their third team member already.

It would have only made sense, considering that she called him so quickly.

"I will do it in a moment." Weiss said. "I called you to ensure that any two of the three of us would be partners. In that way, we would be able to form a team with all of us, no matter what. Now that we're together, we can wait with calling Ilia until we manage to find our relic."

Jaune hummed.

"In that case, I think you might want to call her soon, Weiss." He said before pointing at something that caught his attention. "It seems that we might have found the relics already."

Weiss looked at where he pointed.

There stood a ring of about a dozen marble pedestals placed next to each other in equal intervals. Each of the pedestals presented a chess piece, and none of the pieces had been taken yet.

It was painfully obvious that those were the supposed relics.

His friend turned towards him.

She pouted.

"I saw that as well."

Jaune chuckled.

"Of course, you did."

Weiss let out a loud huff.

"I'm calling Ilia." The heiress said. "In the meantime, stand guard and grab one of the relics. We don't want to be eliminated because we were too busy talking next to the relics, do we?"

Jaune nodded.

It wasn't like there was anything else he could do. They were in the middle of the forest, and the only objects of interest were the relics themselves. Anything approaching them would be either Grimm or their competition, too.

He would have to be really bored if he were to decide against doing his friend's request right now.

With a small shrug, he slowly made his way to the marble pedestals.

As he walked there, he noted that there was a lot of rubble around him, and the pedestals themselves looked as if they were part of something larger before. It was most likely a small temple before whatever happened to it destroyed it.

In the end, it wasn't important to him, though; his goal was the relics.

There were two copies of each type of piece; many of them were also placed on the same pedestals.

If he were to guess, he would bet that the teams would be made from the two pairs that picked up the same pieces. It would only make sense considering that they hadn't been told of any other way to form teams beforehand.

In that case, he might as well take two copies of the same piece at once.

He would simply give one of the copies to Ilia once they find them; that would guarantee that they would be on the team together.

Without any hesitation, he picked both white rooks. The type of the piece probably didn't matter—at least he couldn't think of a reason why they would matter—and those seemed to be the easiest to carry around.

The two pieces now in hand, he turned around and started to walk back towards his friend.

"What do you mean you still have to pick up Pyrrha's weapon?!" Weiss's exasperated shout echoed around him. "What did she use to fight the Grimm then, her shield? I hope you didn't force your partner to fight weaponless, Ilia!"

Jaune raised his eyebrow as he looked at his friend.

Weiss growled.

"You better retrieve her weapons fast and start walking south." The heiress said with a loud huff. "We already have the relics. Don't worry, the winning team won't be separated at Beacon."

Well, it looked like Ilia had found a fourth member for their team already.

He had no idea what the whole weapon talk was about, but it probably wasn't a big deal.

"Yeah, see you soon." Weiss let out a tired sigh. "We will be waiting for you two. If you're lost at any point, just call us; I'm sure we can figure something out together without any issues."

The call ended with the Schnee heiress disconnecting from it and putting away her Scroll.

"I take it that our fourth team member is going to be Pyrrha Nikos, right?" Jaune asked, seeing as the call had already ended.

Weiss nodded her head.

"Yes, she managed to find Ilia right after she landed."

Jaune hummed.

"She seemed nice."

A wide smile appeared on his friend's face.

"She did appear quite kind, yes." Weiss paused for a moment. "Pyrrha is also incredibly talented and competitive. I'm certain she will fit with the three of us quite well; our team is going to be the greatest team at Beacon."

Jaune chuckled.

"I thought there wasn't even a question whether our team would be the best or not." He said.

Weiss's expression was overtaken by a smug grin.

"Of course, there wasn't any doubt about that." She said. "The three of us alone would have made any sort of team the best team it could possibly be. We are the winning team, after all."

Jaune could only look at his friend with a fond expression on his face.

That unquestionable confidence of hers was really one of her best qualities. It was so definite that it could almost be spread to others; he certainly felt far more confident whenever he was with her.

There were times he wondered whether she was doing that on purpose.

"WHOO-HOO!" A loud scream from above interrupted his musing.

"AHHHH!" Another scream immediately followed the first one.

Weiss and he immediately looked up.

Two familiar girls were rapidly falling from the sky. One of them appeared to be excited about the fall, while the other one looked seconds away from panicking. They were Nora Valkyrie and Ruby Rose, and they were falling fast.

Jaune sent a brief, enquiring look to his friend.

Weiss quickly nodded her head.

With a silent agreement shared between them, both of them extended their arms and caught the familiar girls.

"That was awesome!" Nora exclaimed as she landed in Jaune's arms. "Let's do it again! I'm sure that the Birdy won't mind giving us a second ride. What do you say, partner? Are you up for it?!"

Ruby groaned.

"L-Let's maybe not do it too quickly, okay?"

Jaune and Weiss could only look at the girl they were holding in barely hidden amusement.

These two must have certainly had an interesting initiation so far.

"I see you two have partnered up with each other, then." Weiss remarked, as she put down the girl she was holding. "I don't know how you did that, but you somehow managed to land right next to all the relics. Why were you even in the air in the first place?"

Ruby mumbled something under her breath in response, but they couldn't hear it; the girl looked exhausted.

"We were fighting a Nevermore!" Nora said proudly. "It was giant and ferocious, but it couldn't hold onto us for long, so it had to drop us. The fact we were dropped here, right next to the relics, was pure coincidence."

Weiss looked at the pair of girls in surprise.

"You've defeated a Nevermore high in the air on your own?!"

Jaune turned to look at the two girls in awe. It wasn't easy to defeat a Nevermore in a team of two people. It was even harder to do that in the air, where the bird had all the advantages.

If those two had really managed that, then he really would have to look at them in a completely new light.

Ruby winced a little from his admiring look.

"W-Well," The younger girl started. "We didn't exactly beat it."

"Scree!" A loud noise echoed above them.

All of them turned around to see a giant black bird soaring towards them.

"Scatter, now!" Weiss shouted.

"On it!" Ruby instantly shouted back as she turned into a flurry of rose petals and dashed away from the giant bird; she also managed to pick up one of the relics while on the way.

The Nevermore dived in the middle of them, stabbing its claws deep into the ground and shaking the earth around them.

All four of them looked at it with caution and slight hesitation.

Jaune couldn't help but grimace.

It looked like the real challenge began right now.

And cut!

I really wanted to write the whole initiation, as well as, team choosing in a single chapter. However, as I wrote this, I realized that if I did that it would have turned out to be unreasonable long.

Sure, I could cut a few scenes, in this chapter alone, but it would mean less character interactions, which this whole fic is mainly about.

So, it's split in half.

I hope you don't mind it too much.

See ya later!
