Valka's dragons swoop down to engage the attackers, picking up soldiers and carrying them off while Drago stands in the line of fire, unflinching. The catapults continue to bring down the icy defenses of Dragon Mountain. Drago's men pour into the tunnels. "Whatever comes, keep hitting the mountain! We need to draw the alpha out," Drago commands.
Drago's armored dragon army takes wing, clashing with Valka's dragons in the skies.
"Ready the traps!" Drago calls.
Iron jaws are opened like bear traps, revealing screeching 'bait' dragons within. Valka's dragons swoop down to rescue them, only to be snapped up in the fearsome jaws. A second set of traps are cocked open, but instead of dragon cries, Zippleback gas seeps out, followed by an explosion. The twins rocket out of the trap, riding Barf and Belch.
"Surprise! Yeah!" Tuffnut shouts.
"What?!" Drago cried in confusion.
They're joined by Astrid and the rest of the gang, bursting out of the traps atop Meatlug and Hookfang. Eret comes flying out last, wailing aboard Stormfly. He struggles to hold on as she rejoins Astrid, who is riding Meatlug along with Fishlegs. He gives them a sheepish shrug.
"You really are full of surprises," Astrid told him as she leaped onto Stormfly, steadying them. "Let's go!"
Summer was flying with Dak on her while Winger came flying out with Cutter and Burple, and Aggro and Leyla came out and attacked the Dragon Hunters. Anna came flying out on Echo, shooting a sonic blast that sent dozens of them flying around.
"That's for our dragons!" Anna cried.
Together, they rocket across the sky...
"Dragon Riders, coming through!" Tuffnut cried as he dive-bombed the traps, setting them aflame.
The yokes and leather bindings restraining the bait dragons are incinerated, freeing them to fly away unharmed.
"CUT THEM DOWN!" Drago demanded.
Projectiles are launched, one of which knocks Ruffnut off her dragon. She plummets past Eret toward the rocky shore below.
"Eret, son of Eret!" Ruffnut cried when she was suddenly grabbed by both arms before hitting the rocks. The arms belonged to Snotlout on one side and Fishlegs on the other. Her sight becomes soft and romanticized as her epiphany dawns. Above them, more catapults fire, bringing down massive spires of ice directly over Astrid and Eret.
"Up, girl!" Leyla cried as she leaped onto Summer.
"To the left, Eret! That's it! Look out!" Astrid cried as they were about to be crushed by ice when... It's blown to pieces by Toothless's fireball. Hiccup, Elsa, Heather, and Gobber come bursting through the flames on their dragons.
Hiccup and Toothless arc across the sky triumphantly and set their sights on a downed dragon surrounded by soldiers. Toothless BLASTS one of Drago's net launchers, knocking it onto its side. Elsa used her powers to create a functioning bow and arrow that she then CHOPS the trigger line, FIRING the catapult and NETTING the throng of soldiers, freeing the dragon.
Drago's archers target Heather with their arrows when she sees them. "Take them out, girl!"
Windshear spun around, shielding herself and Heather from the arrows, allowing them to bounce off of her inpenetrable skin. Then she unveiled herself again to then shoot a blast of fire at the weapons, destroying them on impact.
"Heads up!" Gobber cried as he flew up from behind, knocking the archers out with Grump's tail.
Gobber chuckles as he flies off.
Drago hears Toothless's tell-tale banshee scream and turns to see him streaking across the sky with Hiccup. "Dragon Master."
Hiccup catches up to Astrid and Eret on Stormfly while Dak and Leyla fly over. "Welcome aboard, dragon rider!" He tells Eret.
"Thanks. I think." Eret said, holding on for dear life.
Leyla glares, both relieved and annoyed to see Hiccup. "Where have you been?" She asked, crossing her arms.
"Oh, y'know. Catching up with Mom." Hiccup said, gesturing upwards.
Everyone was confused until they looked up to see... Valka, in full warrior garb, rose from the towering ice spikes atop Cloudjumper. An earth-trembling roar follows as the Bewilderbeast rises behind Valka.
"Is that an Alpha?!" Anna was shocked to see an Alpha species.
"Whoa, that is definitely an Alpha," Winger confirmed.
"That's your mother?!" Leyla asked in shock.
"Well, now you know where I get my dramatic flair." Hiccup shrugged.
Drago gawked in awe as the great Bewilderbeast blasted an epic explosion of ice upon the attackers. "The alpha! Now we have a fight!"
Valka soars overhead on Cloudjumper, leading swarms of dragons to swoop down and attack Drago's army. A group of Zipplebacks set themselves ablaze and roll like fiery wagon wheels through the battlefield, scattering soldiers and destroying war machines. One of them gets caught under a Dragon Swatter, but Elsa and Luna double back for a rescue.
"Let's get them out of there, girl!" Elsa cheers. Luna dive-bombs the swatter and destroys it with a plasma bolt, freeing the dragon. "Whoo!"
Back to Valka on Cloudjumper, as they pry Drago's armored dragons off the flailing wild ones. A net suddenly envelops Cloudjumper. They crash heavily, but Valka cuts herself free, sliding to a stop just paces away from Drago.
"I've waited a long time for this!" Drago cocks his bull hook, ready to strike, but Valka deflects his hit and attacks him.
"You cannot take our dragons!" Valka proclaimed, striking Drago several times but missing as he blocked with his bull hook. "They are controlled by the alpha!"
"Then it's a good thing I brought a challenger." Drago turns to the flagship and YELLS savagely, whirling his bullhook overhead.
The heavy chains are released. The underwater creature, now freed, breaks the surface in an epic cascade of seawater. It rises toward the shoreline, revealing itself to be... A second Bewilderbeast- bigger, meaner, and covered in scars that indicate years of training and abuse. The chains fall away from iron cuffs fastened to its massive tusks.
Everyone was shocked when they saw the Bewilderbeast had an opponent to go against it.
"There's another one?!" Elsa asked in terror.
"This isn't good," Anna said in shock.
"I WAS WAY OFF! THAT IS A CLASS TEN!" Fishlegs cried in fear. "CLASS TEN!"
Drago's challenger lumbers onto the beach, focused on Valka's Bewilderbeast.
"No. No." Valka said in fear. "
Come on! Take down the alpha!" Drago commanded his Bewilderbeast.
Valka attacks Drago with her bullhook, trying to stop his commands, but Drago strikes back, knocking her forcefully onto her back. He pins her as she struggles, removing her mask and staff. He was about to finish her off when a sudden blast of mist knocked him to the ground. He looks up, fuming, to see Elsa helping Valka to her feet.
"Thank you, my dear," Valka said.
"Anytime," Elsa nodded as she looked to Drago in anger, then over to Luna. "Go help them, girl." Luna nodded as she took off and flew into the air. "
Drago's Bewilderbeast confronts Valka's in a threat display.
"Val, do you think you can stop them?" Elsa asks.
"I'll do my best! Come on, Cloudjumper!" Valka cuts the nets away and hops onto Cloudjumper, flying off toward the Bewilderbeasts as they charge each other, clashing tusks.
Drago lungs at Elsa, swiping his bullhook. Elsa quickly blocked the strike as she created a shield and sword out of her ice. She blocked his strike, swinging her sword to try and strike him back. But that ended with Drago taking it on his armored arm, only for it to mean nothing and for him to strike her again.
"You... you burned my kingdom to the ground!" Elsa screamed.
Drago chyckled when he heard that. "You are going to have to be more specific."
Elsa screamed as she pushed against him with her shield, leaping to create a staircase of ice that she used to get higher and leap down to tackle Drago. She used it to push him, the two imposing warriors CLASH WEAPONS, SLASHING and LANDING PUNCHES.
Valka flew between the Bewilderbeasts, waving her staff commandingly, but to no effect. Drago's Bewilderbeast went in to strike and caused Valka to fly out of the way.
As Drago hooks and yanks the sword out of Elsa's hands. Gobber flies by and HURLS his mace attachment.
"Elsa!" Elsa catches it and lands a direct hit on Drago.
But, with a devastating SWIPE, DRAGO's Bewilderbeast takes down Valka's, plunging in its tusks and burying its opponent's lifeless body under an avalanche.
"No!" Valka screamed.
Hiccup and the others watch in horror as dragons everywhere land and bow their heads in acknowledgement of the new alpha - DRAGO'S ALPHA. The only ones who seemed to be unaffected by this were Winger, Aggro, Burple, Summer, and Cutter. They were more confused by the other dragons' actions and were more shocked at the sight before them.
"Oh, no..." Anna knew what was about to happen.
"We've won." Drago points his bullhook toward Valka and Cloudjumper. "Now finish her!"
Elsa whirls around, spotting Valka and Cloudjumper in the alpha's sights. Drago's Bewilderbeast inhales... and blasts! Valka steers Cloudjumper out of the way, but ice hits his tail, causing them to spiral out of control toward the icy spires. Elsa stops going after Drago and rushes to save Valka. She whistled for Luna as she flew downward and swooped near the ground so Elsa could leap on her back and then fly off to save Valka.
With his tail impaired, Cloudjumper struggles against a throng of oncoming dragons. Valka is knocked off but manages to cling to her dragon's neck. As she loses her grip and falls... Elsa leaps from Luna and catches Valka. She shoots a blast of ice to make a slide they use to make their way down, and they slide to a safe landing. Drago's Bewilderbeast presses closer, sniffing them out.
Hiccup spotted Drago on the battlefield, commanding the Bewilderbeast to finish the job. "STOP! Stop!"
Hiccup lands Toothless a few paces from Drago and brazenly removes his helmet. Drago eyes him, incredulous, then begins to chuckle. "This... is the great dragon master? The son of Stoick the Vast? What shame he must feel."
"Watch it," Toothless snarls, ready to blast, but Hiccup calms him with a hand gesture.
"All of this loss, and for what? To become unstoppable? To rule the world? "
Drago smirks and turns away from Hiccup.
" Dragons are kind, amazing creatures that can bring people together.
"Or tear them apart." Drago LAUGHS mockingly, then removes his FALSE ARM, revealing a stump at his shoulder. Hiccup is taken aback. "You see, I know what it is to live in fear. To see my village burned, my family taken. " He reattaches the prosthesis, circling Hiccup menacingly. "But even as a boy, left with nothing, I vowed to rise above the fear of dragons and liberate the people of this world.
"Then why a dragon army?" Hiccup questioned.
"Well," Drago shrugged, "you need dragons to conquer other dragons."
"Or maybe you need dragons to conquer people." Hiccup took another step forward, his eyes as cold as ice. "To control those who follow you, and to get rid of those who won't."
"Clever boy," Drago said, his comment made under his breath yet intentionally loud enough for Hiccup to hear. But he didn't seem fazed, just yet, by anything Hiccup was saying.
"The world wants peace," Hiccup said, his attention refocused on Drago. "and we have the answer back on Berk. Just, let me show you-"
"NO!" Drago interjected. "Let ME show YOU." Drago shrieked madly, waving his staff around as he began summoning the Bewilderbeast.
Toothless circles Hiccup, protectively. "Hiccup?"
"Not yet, Toothless." Hiccup still wanted to try and
The Bewilderbeast was still sharing blows with Elsa as she rolled out of the way, summoning her energy to create a barrier that sheidled her and Valka. It hears Drago's distant wails and approaches obediently.
Elsa was confused by what was going on when she looked around. "What...?" Then, she follows its stare to the distant battlefield below. She spots Hiccup and Toothless a few paces from Drago. "Hiccup!"
Elsa quickly rushed her way down, shooting ice and smacking any Dragon Hunter that came near her as she rushed downward. She rushes off. Valka follows, racing past Gobber as he finally joins them, winded from having run up the mountain.
"Come on, Gobber!" Elsa cried.
Gobber sighed as he was winded. "Okay, change of plans." He hurries back down the mountain after them. "Come on!"
Drago was jabbing his bullhook into the ground commandingly. The Bewilderbeast flinches and stops, submissive. "No dragon can resist the alpha's command. So he who controls the alpha, controls them all."
Drago points to Toothless. The Bewilderbeast stares and hisses, forcing Toothless to cower under a hypnotic ultrasonic broadcast. Toothless struggles against the alpha's command, writhing and grinding his head against the ground.
"Toothless? You okay, bud? What's going on?" Hiccup tried to talk to his dragon.
"He's... he's controlling..." Toothless was fighting the command, shaking his head in protest. "I can't..."
The Bewilderbeast insists, with a mesmerizing glare and a low, throaty grumble... until Toothless finally succumbs to its control. He raises his head, his stare vacant and robotic, as his pupils turn to slits. Drago then points to Hiccup. The Bewilderbeast responds, hissing again at Toothless.
"Witness true strength." Draco proclaimed. "The strength of will over others. In the face of it, you are nothing."
Toothless slowly turns to face Hiccup. Advancing towards his rider and friend.
"Uh, what did he just tell you?" Hiccup questioned, watching Toothless march toward him.
"Luna!" Elsa called out to her dragon.
Luna heard her call, but when she took her attention away, she was tackled by a net. Anna rushed in quickly, using Echo to keep them away as she landed and tried to cut Luna out of the bonds.
Bounding across the ice, she pushed herself to make it to Hiccup in time.
"Toothless, what's the matter with you?" Hiccup called. "What're you doing?"
Hiccup is backed against fallen ice, with Toothless advancing mindlessly, and nowhere to run. Toothless opens his yawning mouth. Gas seeps from his throat.
"Knock it off! Stop! Snap out of it!" Hiccup demanded/pleaded with him.
Elsa barrels through ice formations and over war machines, racing against time.
"Toothless! No! Toothless! Don't!"
"Hiccup!" Elsa cried, rushing over.
Hiccup sees Elsa about to run into the fray. "Elsa!"
Toothless blasted.
Elsa leaps in front of it, shoving Hiccup out of the way and tried to use her powers to stop him, but ended up taking the blast in the process. She's thrown against the ice with great impact. That was when the rest of the riders also heard the blast and looked down and were shocked.
"Elsa?" Anna asked in shock.
"Oh, no..." Heather said in sorrow.
Drago glances back, seeing Elsa lying lifeless in the aftermath, pleased by the sudden turn of events. He shuffles off, satisfied. Stunned, Hiccup comes to and sees Elsa in the rubble. He rushes past the still-entranced Toothless, straining to scatter the ice boulders on top of Elsa's body.
"Elsa!" Hiccup rushed to his sister.
Valka arrives, winded and aghast. She helps Hiccup turn Elsa's body over. Valka presses her ear to Elsa's heart, confirming that she couldn't hear anything and felt her cheek, only to feel it was cold with a mere glance to Hiccup. He tears up, overwhelmed by grief and sorrow at his sister's loss.
"No... you can't..."
Heather, Anna, Gobber, Astrid, Eret, Dak, Leyla, and the Gang arrive, slack-jawed. Satisfied, the Bewilderbeast turns away, releasing Toothless from the trance-like state. Toothless blinks, coming to and confused. He approaches the group, sniffing Elsa's hand.
"No..."
Hiccup shoves him. "No! Get away from him!"
Toothless whimpered, not even bothering to try and talk as he walked away.
"It's not his fault. You know that." Valka told Hiccup.
On the battlefield, the alpha BELLOWS, calling all of the dragons to gather. Meatlug, Stormfly, Hookfang, and the others all follow the command as the Gang calls after them. The only ones who didn't leave were Winger, Burple, Aggro, Summer, and Cutter, who looked up in confusion.
"What's going on?" Aggro asks.
"Hey, where is everyone going?" Summer asks.
"Good dragons under the control of bad people do bad things." Valka sighed.
Drago notices Toothless tumble down a snow-bank, once again slit-eyed and entranced, but unable to fly to the alpha without a rider. Drago pins him down, eyeing the saddle, pedals, and prosthetic tail.
Hiccup was in tears as Toothless rose into view, with Drago in the saddle. "GATHER THE MEN AND MEET AT BERK!"
His soldiers cheer in the thousands.
"Toothless!" Hiccup tries to go after Toothless, but Anna holds him back. "No, don't!"
Drago jabs his bull hook and points toward the horizon. The alpha bellows, commanding an exodus as it leads the way. "Move out!"
Hiccup watches, powerless as all the dragons take wing and follow.
All of their attention was off of Elsa, they missed a small mist of breath leave her body, fogging up around her face...
Before a large gasp followed, with Elsa's eyes opening wide.
