Losing A Mate

Gunray had fixed himself a drink, as he is complating on his decision.

Letting the liquid touch his lips.

I can see why Phoenix likes it so much.

He sat his drink back down, letting out a sigh as he did so, rubbing the back of his neck.

I wonder how she will take the news, I know she will be destate at first, but I know she will find the strength to move on. I have to do this, or I won'r be the same Neimoidian as I once was.

"Phoenix."

He could hear footsteps heading in his direction, his mate appearing in front of him.

"Yes, Gunray?"

She noticed the sadness reflecting from his ruby eyes.

"Gunray, what's wrong?" Phoenix asked him, as she came closer to him.

"Phoenix..." her beloved viceroy was finding it hard to string his words together. "I don't know how to say this, I really don't want to do this to you, but I have no choice."

Phoenix was worried about him, she had picked up the hesitation in his voice.

"My gtip on reality is slipping."

"How can you tell?"

"My memory isn't what it used to be, as each year passes, I can feel a part of myself fading away."

"What do you want me to do?" she already knew, what he was asking her to do, even though she wasn't ready to let him go, not just yet, she wanted him to stay with her.

"Do you still have your scimitar?"

"Yes."

"I want you to plunge it into me, before old age can has a chance to fully claim me." Gunray had pointed to a particular part of his body, to his chest.

Phoenix rummaged through her pocket, digging her wood carving tool out of it.

Before Phoenix could do the deed, Gunray kneel down in front of her, closing his eyes, calming every nerve in his body, as he prepare himself for the pain to come.

The next thing he knew, he heard the scimirar that was poised at him, clanging to the ground, making him open his eyes.

"I can't do this." she told him, her entire being beginning to shake.

He looked at her with calming eyes, he inched closer to his mate, embracing her in his arms. "Why not."

"I'm nott ready to lose you." she told him, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Shh." Gunray tried the best he could to comfort his mate, wiping away her tears. "Do you remember, what I told you when you had your nightmare, all those years ago?" he asked her, as he lean his head down, his forehead touching the top of her head.

Phoenix nodded her head, "If Death took you away again, you will never leave me." she began to kiss his lips and cheek, her head bowed a little, her forehead touching the base of his thriat. "Will I ever see you again?" she asked him, after placing a gentle kiss at that location, savoring the taste of his flesh.

"You will, I promise you that much."

"Gunray..."

"Hmm..."

"Forgive me."

Phoenix placed one hand on her beloved viceroy's chest, tenderlystroking the long scar that decorate his flesh, gripping too tightly onto the handle of her scimitar, plunging the blade into him.

The last thing eother of them hear as the blade was pulled out of his body was a grunt of pain, escaping his lips.

Before Gunray had a chance to fall backwards, Phoenix clung onto him.
