Highschool DxD: The Crown of Shadow

Chapter 1: Death and Rebirth

I don't know exactly what happened to me that had caused this transition. I was or am a nobody, stumbling through life until it led me here for what little of my life I got to live.

I am falling what feels like forever thousands and thousand of voices all talking at once. I cover my ears and close my eyes and scream out begging for them to stop.

Suddenly I feel like I am no longer falling and I hit something solid.

"Ouch that hurt."

Shaking my head as I rise to my feet. The darkness still surrounds me and I can not see anything. It is then a voice booms from every where and yet no where.

"Welcome Kyo. Ignored by the world and already forgotten, except for the little one you gave your life for. Would you like another chance to matter to make a difference in the lives of more people and be seen and recognised byt those you save and feared by those do things for ill?"

I sigh to myself knowing that what the voice is saying is probably true. Though I have read many comics and seen many movies and anime. The voice they usually hear doesn't tell everything that is going on. For now though I decide to play along.

"Of course I would but I know a lot about voices and what they give and in kindness isn't everything and there is always hidden agendas."

"Hahahaha, the only agenda here is for me to turn you from a nobody into a somebody. I need you to save humanity from the hell it has found itself in. It has been enslaved by Lucifer. The Angels and their fallen kin have been defeated and are in hiding. The Devils are divided many have returned to serving Lucifer while others tried to aid humanity from the shadows.

"How do you expect me to beat Satan himself? I am just a young man who has died I am just a human."

"You know that is not true. Not just a human but you are hero to five. That means you qualify for the task at hand. There is much more to you than your world can ever know and you will not full to corruption like some of the others.

"Great you never heard the saying power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Fine then I will help you. At least I will do my best."

"Thank you."

The Darkness shatters like glass as a little orb of light floats towards me and I reach out to grab it a voice goes off in my head.

"The Crown of The Shadow King acquired. A new king is born."

I am blinded by the light only for it recede. I found myself in a bedroom that was similar to my own room yet it was different. The door opens and I find a women who looks exactly like my mother staring at me with concern.

"Kyo dear are you ok?"

"Yes mum I am ok, just been a little jumpy lately I got spooked there. That game has me really spooked."

My mother waves her arm to dismiss my words and smiles. She steps forward and takes my hands in hers and the smiles.

"Your video game isn't the problem. It has been hard for you to connect to anything in this town except for the stray animals you bring back. Just be be the strong son I know you are and take each day at a time and one day someone other than me and your father will see and accept you."

I nod in response and smile even though it is not my world, my mother from this world is still as supportive as ever. I was glad that this aspect hadn't changed and that she is still my mother. I watch my mother turn and leave and I decide to follow knowing before I do anything I need to learn about the crown I just acquired.

I follow my mother down the stairs and we both go into the kitchen. Mother was making her home made soup and I went to the fridge and took out a drink.

"Could you go to the store for me and pick up the items on the list for me?"

"Sure I will go now."

I take the list from my mother and give it a quick glance. She goes to give me some money which I take and say thanks.

"Just be careful son ok? It is not a great idea to go round on your own the towns not safe these days."

"I will be careful and I will be straight there and back again."

I smile and walk towards the front door grabbing my coat on the way out and step outside. I take a deep breathe and the cold air tingles my nose and throat which was odd. I get strange sensation and I am told though I am not sure how, that it was the magic I was sensing.

I set off walking down the street at a leisurely pace, the shop at the end of the street being my goal. I take in the sights around me as I walk noticing how many are in doors and how very few of the locals seem to be out. I guessed at that moment the danger I would be facing in this world is something that tends to favour night time attacks. I continue walking but as I approach the shop I get a sense of dread come over me and then that unspoken words sear my mind."

"Enemies approach activate the crown and become The Shadow King?"

"Yes!"

After I confirm the desire my head feels heavy and stagger as I feel power swell up inside me and it was intoxicating. I stagger and step forward and look down at my own hands. I have become clad in black and silver my gauntleted hands end in talons sheathed in emerald lightning. I also notice I am much bigger and bulkier than before. As I stand and admire myself I hear a scream and when my head snaps in that direction a helmet appears over my head and seals itself. My minds sears and again I am asked.

"Activate your shadow step to save young woman from the fiends."

This time I don't respond with a my voice out loud and simply nod. I get the sensation of being sucked into the ground and everything around me becomes a blur, as I travel at a speed I cant fully process and before I know what is going on I emerge and stumble forward.

Upon seeing me the young woman shrieks even louder and her would be tormentors turn and stare at me their jaws dropping. Instinct kicks in and I grab one of them by the head. I hold back as I toss this thing away from myself and am rewarded with the unpleasant sound of a body hitting the ground with force.

I lash out with my other arm and the claws easily slip into the other fiends chest punching as I kick the third in the chest caving it in and sending the body flying down the street mangling it even more.

The fiend starts panicking muttering the shadow kings returned over and over as I loom over it.

"I have, let it be known I have returned and tell your master that I am back to thwart him once again now run!"

The woman flinches and the human looking monster flees for his life. I watch as he flees and I hear the muttering thank you over and over but she is shaking terribly. I couldn't help but smile behind my helmet, I have been thanked by a stranger.

"You have been through some thing traumatising I must suggest you go home and rest may I ask your name?"

"It is Maya."

"Thank you Maya. I need you to keep what you have seen a secret ok? If you mention that you have seen me it could cause you and those you love harm can you do that for me?"

Maya nods and I say thanks telling her to head home quickly. Maya was a grown woman and I spoke to her like a child. I shake my head at the silliness of it all as she turns waves good bye. Issue here is I am only noticing people looking out their windows. Time I left.

I use Shadow step again but this time I don't want to move fast but slow. I shrink back into the ground but this I am fully aware of where I am and I can sense everything around me . Elevated from the outcome of my first encounter I had almost forgotten about my mothers list of items. Which I will get as soon as I figure out how to take off my armour or depower myself. Once again I get searing pain in my head and I shake it off until I can find a safe spot. As I raise from the ground again I run around a corner and I nod and I power down my armour vanishes and become the normal me again.

"I better get those shopping items and get home."

With a smile on my face I run back around the corner and into the shop while several people in the street are now looking in every direction trying to catch a glimpse of my armoured form. I step into the shop with a huge smile on my face round one goes to me!
