They walk through the station to the Singles train before boarding the train after the doors open. Standing in the first car with them Izuku sees eight other depot agents. "Good afternoon everyone, let's make sure the challenger has a good time with the battles today," Dad says before leading the group into the third car with the others heading to their assigned cars.
They sit down in the seats while waiting for the challenger. Izuku pulls out his notebook on Riolu and he starts looking over ways to improve his fighting abilities and to cover weaknesses. " If I teach him Rock Smash, and the Technical Machine for Aerial Ace and Facade. Then he will have some coverage to lower defense and better moves for covering more types…" "So are you using Riolu for the battle?" Dad asks while looking at Izuku with curiosity in his eyes. "No Riolu doesn't have enough experience yet for this kind of challenge I'm going to be using Jangmo-o he has more power and a few new moves I want to try out to make sure he's got control over them," he says while smiling up at his Dad.
Then over the intercom a voice calls, " The challenger has defeated the second trainer." Izuku stands up and heads over to his side of the field while his Dad walks to the side of the field to be the referee. The door opens and for Izuku to be surprised to see Phoenix walks into the train car and just stares at Izuku in shock. " What are you doing here!?" Phoenix yells in shock while pointing at Izuku. "He's covering for the depot agent you were scheduled to battle today," Dad says in a calm tone while looking critically at Phoenix. Izuku realizes that his Dad is worried and quickly says, "Oh Phoenix this is my dad Ingo Kandó, one of the Subway Bosses." Phoenix jaw drops before he runs up to Izuku and yells in Izuku's face while waving his arms frantically, "You didn't think to tell me or Hilbert that you have famous parents!" "Um," Is all he got to say before his Dad asks while standing next to him and staring down Phoenix, "You know this young man Izuku?"
Turning to his Dad Izuku says, " Yeah he was one of the starting trainers at Professor Juniper's lab when I was at that station, we had a verrry great battle." "Well I'm glad you made some friends but we need to get this train back on track," Dad says while straightening his hat while looking at Phoenix expectantly. Phoenix realizes he's in Izuku's face before quickly jumping back saying, " Sorry about that Izuku your Dad right let's get this battle started." Phoenix walks over to the other side of the battlefield taking out a Pokéball.
"Burn bright Pansear," Phoenix yells while sending out the red monkey Pokémon. "All aboard Jangmo-o," Izuku calls while sending out the little dragon. "Who's that Pokémon?" Phoenix questions never seeing the dragon Pokémon in Unova before, pulling out his Pokédex. After Dad lets Phoenix read the Pokédex then he says, " Let the battle begin." "Pansear use scratch!" Phoenix yells. Pansear runs forward with its paw raised. "Jangmo-o use leer then full speed ahead with tackle," Izuku calls.
Jangmo-o lets out a roar before glaring at Pansear causing it to falter before rushing forward tackling it across the field. "Ok Pansear use Incenerate to blast that dragon, then use Yawn!" Phoenix yells while looking on in excitement. Izuku realizes Jangmo-o can't dodge so cries out, " Jangmo-o use protect then dragon tail!" Jangmo-o uses protect just in time to stop from being hit by the flames only to be to slow to dodge the yawn attack, but able to hit Pansear with his glowing tail. Pansear gets up slowly while Jangmo-o yawns before Izuku yells, " Jangmo-o use scary face then headbutt before it's to late." "Pansear use leer to counter then disarming voice to finish this battle," Phoenix cries out. Jangmo-o and Pansear glares at each other with it doing nothing before Jangmo-o yawns tiredly before rushing forward before tripping as he lays there tiredly. Then Pansear sees it chance uses Disarming voice the pink sound waves hitting Jangmo-o head on knocking Jangmo-o back. After a moment it's revealed that Jangmo-o is knocked out. Izuku looks on in shock for a second before returning the little dragon to its Pokéball.
"Jangmo-o is unable to battle the challenger wins," Ingo says while looking proudly at Izuku with how well he did in battle, he's hoping he will do just as well at taking a loss. " Bravo!! This was a good battle your a strong trainer who rode the tracks to victory. That battle was fun I hope you keep battling at this station!" "Definitely that was fun we both were giving it our all, and our Pokémon were as well.
We will need to battle again sometime soon," Challenger Phoenix says while looking at Izuku with excited smile with Pansear already in its Pokéball. "Well then challenger Phoenix if your ready you can go to the next car and challenge the trainer there when your ready," Ingo says while looking at Izuku who seems really happy even though he lost. "Oh, of course we'll see you later Izuku and it was very nice to meet you Mr. Kandó. Well I better get going," challenger Phoenix says before walking through the next door. "Bravo Izuku you handled that battle splendidly little passenger. Why don't we go tell Emmet about your battle," Ingo says while looking down at his son. "Your not mad about me losing?" Izuku asks Ingo quietly. He looks at Izuku in shock before quickly hugging him and says, " I'm not disappointed at all everyone losses at some point including my brother and I. It's what we do after we lose that counts." "Ok let's go tell Papa how I did in battle and ways I can improve so I can keep on track to getting stronger," Izuku says. They sit down and wait for the train to get back to the station before exiting to see Emmet standing there waiting for them. "So how did he do?" Emmet asks while looking at Izuku. "He did wonderful even though he lost," Ingo says. "What our little passenger lost I guess the challenger was tougher than we thought, I hope he challenges the double lines next, I want a great battle," Emmet replies with a big smile. The rest of the evening after they get home, they talk about the battle and ways to help Izuku's Pokémon get stronger before they let Izuku know that he can go back on his journey tomorrow.
