The next day, the sun shone brightly over Amity Park. Sam ran full speed down to Danny's house with Tucker in tow. She was getting fed up with this fight the guys were having.
"Sam! Let me go!"
"NO! We're going to Danny's right now, and you two are gonna make up!" She shouted back at Tucker. "It's bad enough you can't be around him with me out of the room. You two would tear each other to pieces."
"Uh, actually… he would tear me to pieces." Tucker retorted as they approached Fenton Works.
"Just come in here with me and solve this problem you two have. It's your fault we're not talking right now anyway."
"But-"
Just then, Sam rang the bell. Jazz Fenton opened the door and smiled.
"Sam! I haven't seen you in forever!" She said as she hugged Sam tightly.
"Jazz!" Sam said, struggling to breathe. "It's been a while! How do you like the new threads I gave you?"
"Well, I hated the all-black at first, but now, I can't stop wearing it!"
Sam laughed. "You should've switched to my side years ago. Where's Danny?"
"He's upstairs." She glared at Tucker. "What is he doing here?"
Sam raised an eyebrow. "Uh… he's here to apologize to Danny. Aren't you, Tucker?" She elbowed him in the side.
"Yeah." Tucker winced in pain. "Fuck... that hurt."
"Come in." Jazz shut the door and watched Sam and Tucker go up the stairs to Danny's room. She knew it was about to go down. "Sam." She whispered.
"Yeah?" Sam turned to Jazz.
"Be careful. Danny doesn't want Tucker around, so be cautious to avoid the fury."
"I will." Sam continued to walk to Danny's room.
"It's bad enough we aren't spending our summer together because you two can't get along, and I'M getting caught in the middle of it!" Sam shouted to Danny, who just looked at her with a tired and confused look.
"What are you trying to say, Sam?" Danny yawned and stretched. It was summer, he wanted to sleep in, and he definitely didn't want Tucker in his house. Let alone his room.
"Tucker…" Sam turned to Tucker. "Didn't you have something to say to Danny?"
Tucker looked at Danny, still trying to recover from the blow to the ribs, and sighed. "Look, I'm sorry I was jealous of you."
"Get out, Tucker." Danny said, trying to remain calm. "Just stay calm, Daniel. Stay calm."
"Danny-"
Danny looked at Tucker and walked over to him. "Get. Out. Tucker." He exhaled sharply and got face to face with Tucker. "Please, get out. For the better part of my sanity." He kept his eyes on Tucker. "Stay calm, Daniel." He thought again.
Tucker was stunned. "I came to apologize."
Sam couldn't hide her emotions when she saw them. "Oh no. This is what Jazz warned me about."
"Stay… calm. Daniel." Danny thought one more time.
He kept his eyes on Tucker and cocked his head slightly. He and Tucker were now nose to nose. "Give me one reason why I should hear you out when you're the one who was behind my attack."
Sam shook her head in disbelief. "Attack? Danny, what are you talking about?"
"You didn't know, Sam?" A voice called behind her.
Jazz busted in. She locked the door behind her and stood looking at the fractured Team Phantom.
"Sam, I know this will sound crazy, but hear him out." Jazz advised Sam of what was to come before she walked in, but now it is going down.
"Six months ago, Sam, I no-showed a date we had set up. What was the reason I gave you?" Danny backed up.
"You had to fight Skulker."
"It was a lie. Tucker set up a trap that resulted in me getting jumped, well… hazed by the football team. He somehow managed to convince-"
Tucker cut him off. "I never did that! I don't know anything about this… this… assault!" He stuttered. "Danny, you're literally my best friend. I would never do that to you."
"You're my best friend, right? You're my best friend." Danny chuckled calmly. "You're my best friend until you realized I was getting more attention from everyone. You hated that everyone started giving me more attention than you. When Sam and I broke up, you looked as if everything you ever wanted was given to you in that moment, Tucker. Sam told me that we needed a break, which I…" Danny looked over to Sam and blushed slightly. "…had no issue with."
Sam blushed and smiled at Danny. Their relationship took several bumps in the road, but at the end of the day, Danny always knew how to make her happy and feel loved.
"You used the team to take me out of the picture permanently because you were jealous." Danny turned his attention back to the boy before him and narrowed his eyes. "I trusted you, man. Not only that, but you know some of my deepest secrets."
Tucker looked at Sam, then to Jazz, and back to the angry halfa in front of him. He knew he was screwed and couldn't do anything to save himself. "Who… told you this?" Was all he could ask nervously.
Danny smirked and locked eyes with a nervous Tucker. "The one person who hates me and was behind the attack. Or so I thought. Dash Baxter."
The room was filled with a tense silence. Danny just dropped the biggest bombshell, leaving everyone completely stunned. To Sam, Jazz, and even Tucker, Dash was the one person, if anything, that Danny was scared of. Danny never did anything to him, but yet, he would always find himself in Dash's path of destruction. Sam was shocked, even though she knew that somewhere in him, Dash had a heart. Jazz, on the other hand, was furious. She became very protective of Danny since she graduated from Casper High, and even more so since their parents were rarely home now. However, to learn that one of her brother's closest friends would go so low as to set him up to be hazed…
It made her angry to no end.
"I-" Tucker tried to come up with something. "Danny, that's not-"
"So… you mean to tell me that YOU…" Sam grabbed Tucker by the collar and pulled him over to her. "YOU set the love of my life up to be attacked by the whole FOOTBALL TEAM?!" She slapped Tucker hard across the face with her free hand, causing him to hit the ground beneath him. "As of this moment, we are not FRIENDS." She then turned her attention to Danny.
"Sam, please don't be angry at me. I did nothing wrong." Danny threw his hands up in defense and looked into Sam's eyes. That nonchalant, calm, neutral Danny was gone and the anxious Danny returned.
"Danny, you know I could never stay mad at you. I love you too much, even though we are just friends now. I just want to know why you didn't tell anyone they attacked you." Sam calmed herself.
"I thought no one would've believed me." Danny lowered his head.
Sam rolled her eyes and continued to calm down. "Danny, you're the popular kid at our school now. Everyone loves you as Danny Fenton, just like they love you when you're Danny Phantom. I… I love you. If no one else will, I'll always listen to you. Okay?"
Danny smiled, but he knew he had another secret to tell Sam. "Sam… there's something else I want to tell you. Jazz, can you get him out of here?" He glared at Tucker. If looks could kill, Tucker would be dead.
"No problem." Jazz replied as she picked Tucker up by the ear and dragged him out of Danny's room and shut the door.
"Now, what did you want to tell me?"
"Sam… Dash came to me yesterday after I fought the Box Ghost and apologized for the attack. He said that Tucker essentially forced the team to do it and not say anything or Dash would be blamed for it. Not only that…"
Her eyes narrowed. "What, Danny? Did he punch you again? I swear if he did, I'm gonna-"
"Sam, chill. He didn't hit me. He… he hugged me."
Sam was quiet.
"And he said that he likes me."
The room was silent. Sam and Danny stared at each other, unable to tear their eyes from each other. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened her eyes, that familiar look of regret that Danny knew returned.
"Why didn't you tell me Tucker was plotting on you? All this time, I thought you-"
"No, Sam. stop right there. I know what you're about to say. I never stopped thinking about you during our break after the first fight with Tucker. I always felt bad because we were separated. I guess I'm trying to say that… well, I missed you, Sam."
"I missed you more, Danny. Did I ever tell you that I have been keeping something from you for a while?"
Now it was Danny's turn to be confused. "No…"
Sam reached into the bag she had brought with her and pulled out a box and handed it to Danny. "There are two things in this box. Open it."
Danny opened the box to find a ring and a picture. On the inside of the box, it said, "You've been my rock for many years and I will always value you. Let this ring and photo serve as reminders that through it all, I love you, too." The picture was of Danny and Sam's first kiss during his final fight with Plasmius, three years ago. He couldn't be happier to have someone as loyal and dedicated to him as Sam is.
"I don't know what I would do without you by my side." Danny smiled as he pulled Sam close to him. "How'd I get so lucky?"
Sam chuckled and looked at Danny in his twinkling blue eyes. "I dunno. We just found each other and have been together ever since."
"Sam?"
"Yeah?"
Their faces got closer.
Danny's and Sam's hearts pounded heavily. This was the first time since Valentine's Day that they've been this close. "Hopefully," Danny thought, "I won't blow this."
"Don't blow this, Manson." Sam thought to herself as she touched Danny's face. "Your skin is always perfect."
"So is yours."
As the distance between them started to close, there was a knock at the door. This couldn't be good.
"FU- Man, what is gonna take for us to get back to normal? At the very least?" Danny walked over to the door and opened it. When he did, all he could see was a fist fly into his face and he went straight to the ground.
"Danny!" Sam ran over to Danny and helped him up. "What the-"
Tucker stepped into the room. "You deserved it."
"Tucker, are you serious? Not only did you set him up to be attacked, but you just sucker punched him!" Sam's eyes were lit in fury. "I'm really sick of you."
Tucker laughed and stood over Sam. "That's not what you said when I-"
Danny cranked his foot up and kicked Tucker right where it hurt. "And that's what you deserved. Now, this is the last time I'm asking you." He rose up and told Sam to run and get Jazz.
"Get. Out." Danny shook the blow off and stood over Tucker, who was still in pain after the low blow.
"Or what?" Tucker spat in defiance as he forced himself to stand up.
"I'll show you."
