"Things are so simple when you're a baby. Be happy that you are this little still Liam."

Cora sat on her bed playing with her little brother's tiny feet. Liam cooed at Cora, and she thought she saw him smile.

"Now you smile at me. I've been trying to get you to smile at me for like three weeks."

Eddie lightly knocked on Cora's door while passing down the hallway.

"Hi honey. How are you two doing in here?"

Cora was still lying on her stomach playing with Liam's tiny feet.

"We're good in here mama. Why do babies smell so good?"

Eddie entered Cora's bedroom and took a seat on her computer chair.

"I don't really know. But he did have a bath half an hour ago."

Cora shook her head and gave a small laugh. Eddie smiled.

"Oh."

Reaching a hand over, Eddie smoothed some hair out of Cora's face.

"That small laugh you do, you sound so much like your dad. It's uncanny."

Cora smiled and stopped playing with Liam's feet.

"I do? I didn't notice."

Eddie continued.

"You do that little embarrassed laugh too when you say what."

Cora raised her eyebrow at Eddie.

"I do not."

Jamie was now in the doorway.

"Yes, you do. You sound just like me."

Liam was flailing his arms and legs on the bed and gave a smile to Jamie.

"Hey bud. What's with you sticking your tongue out?"

Liam flailed his arms again and smiled at Jamie. Cora gave a small pout.

"Hey. How come he gets super excited around you, but I get half a smile from him?"

Jamie gave Cora a sympathetic look.

"He is still learning about tones in our voices. He recognizes your voice. He can track things and movement with his eyes. He knows he's loved. You look tired ladybug. You've only been home from the hospital a few days. Why don't you get a little rest."

Cora nodded and played with Liam's feet one last time.

"Ok baby bro. Go with mama and daddy. I'm going to take a nap."

Eddie scooped Liam into her arms, and he began to fuss.

"Ok little man, you sound like you're getting hungry. Let's get you fed."

Cora tried to stifle a yawn and pushed the covers back, crawling under them. Jamie hung back, making sure she was settled.

"You ok baby girl?"

Cora nodded her head and pulled the covers over her and lie back against the pillow.

"Yeah. But I'm still sore."

Jamie nodded and brushed a kiss against Cora's forehead.

"That's normal honey. You just got over having Pneumonia. Your muscles are going to be sore, it may hurt to breathe sometimes. But it'll fade with time."

Cora nodded and her eyes began to close. She was sleepy. Jamie quietly stepped out of the room and closed Cora's door. Going down the hall, he checked on Maisie, who was sitting on her bed drawing. He knocked on her door. She looked up and smiled at Jamie.

"Hi daddy."

Stepping into her bedroom, Jamie looked a the picture Maisie was drawing.

"That's a pretty picture honey. I like the yellow dog you drew. Is that the backyard?"

Maisie nodded her head.

"Yes, and this is our dog, Luna. Daddy, you said we could get a dog. We don't have one yet. Can we please get a dog before I'm too old to have one?"

Jamie chuckled and kissed the top of Maisie's head.

"You'll never be too old to have a dog honey. Mommy and I are working on it."

Maisie nodded and put the cap back on her yellow marker, placing it on the bed next to her.

"But you promised daddy."

Jamie nodded and sat down on the bed next to Maisie.

"I know I did honey. It's taking some time to figure things out. Your big sister Cora was in the hospital. She's only been home a few days. Staying in the hospital costs a lot of money."

Maisie hopped off her bed and went over to her dresser, opening up a drawer and pulling out a small piggy bank. Climbing back onto the bed, she turned her piggy bank over and opened the bottom, spilling the contents inside all over the bed.

"Here daddy. Money to help pay the hospital."

Jamie gave Maisie a sympathetic smile.

"Oh peanut, you don't have to do that. You keep your money. Mommy and daddy have it taken care of. Do you want to put your picture up on the fridge?"

Maisie nodded her head.

"Uh huh."

Scooping up all her money, she carefully placed it back inside her piggy bank, closing it back up. She looked back at Jamie as she hopped off the bed one more time.

"Ok daddy, close your eyes and no peeking."

Jamie smirked slightly and humored Maisie, closing his eyes.

"I promise not to look peanut."

He kept his eyes closed and then he felt little hands on top of his.

"Ok daddy, you can open your eyes now."

Jamie smiled and let Maisie take his hands away from his eyes. She took his left hand, and he let her pull him up from the edge of her bed.

"Come on daddy. Let's have family movie night."

Jamie always did love having family movie night with the family. It brought them closer together.

"Ok peanut. Let's get all your sister's and both your brother's together and decide which movie to watch together."

Maisie gave Jamie a look.

"Daddy… Liam and Sadie are too little to watch a movie. All they do is eat, sleep and go to the bathroom."

Jamie smiled and took Maisie's hand.

"We all get to spend time together. That's what family is about. Right?"

Maisie nodded.

"Let's watch a movie!"

Jamie nodded and walked down the hallway towards Keena's bedroom.

"In a minute honey. Let's see what Keena's doing."

Jamie poked his head into Keena's room and saw her jumping on the bed, very close to the edge.

"Daddy! Look how high I can jump!"

Feeling his heart jump into his throat, Jamie was quick to get to Keena before she could fall off the bed. He caught her in his arms. She had a bewildered look on her face, then she began to cry.

"Daddy!"

Jamie did his best to will his heart to stop hammering in his chest.

"You're ok honey. You're ok. No more jumping on the bed. You could really hurt yourself."

Keena wiped the tears from her eyes with her left arm.

"Ok daddy…"

Jamie put her down and now Patrick was in the doorway.

"Why are you crying Keena?"

Keena looked at Patrick and frowned.

"I fell off the bed."

Patrick's eyes widened.

"Are you ok?"

Keena nodded and sniffled.

"I'm ok. We're going to have family movie night."

Patrick looked at his sister and then at Jamie.

"Sweet! Dad, can I pick the movie? Please?"

Jamie nodded.

"You can. Make sure to pick one that isn't too long this time please Pat. Your younger sisters were all asleep before the last movie you picked ended."

Patrick shook his head.

"If I remember right dad, so were you and mom. Cora and I were the only one's watching the movie."

Jamie nodded his head.

"Sometimes your mom and I get tired."

Patrick made a face.

"From the two of you making out on the couch? Sure."

Jamie frowned and covered Keena's ear. Maisie had already gone downstairs.

"Hey bud, I thought we had this conversation. Have you been talking to Cora again? Some things are just no appropriate for you to be saying, ok?"

Patrick gave Jamie an unimpressed look.

"If you haven't noticed dad, I'm almost 13. I'm not a baby anymore. Mom already had the talk with me last week."

Jamie was slightly taken aback by Patrick's words.

"Well, I guess your mom beat me to it. We were supposed to have the talk between the three of us."

It sometimes baffled Jamie how quickly Patrick was growing up and maturing. He was mature for his age. The kids were growing up fast. He had to accept that.
