Chapter Three: - Sanha Sacrifices Her Shoes For Us

A/N :- This book is currently being cross posted on Wattpad :D !

At that moment, I wanted to die.

I don't care what or who that was. We didn't need a reminder to do the obvious and run.

We tripped over the barrier and ran ahead into the dense thicket. I spared a glance at the thing running at us. It was shaggy and had a lot of muscles, kind of like my fitness obsessed cousin brother, Aryaman. When the weird creature passed by a tree, light fell on it, showing its tall, pointy horns and…was that a bull head?

We stopped at a crossroad. The bull stopped behind us, a few hundred feet away, pawing the ground and bowing his head.

"The Minotaur." I gasped. But how? Sure I had seen a lot of stuff in life, but this felt…too surreal.

Or was this how things were meant to be?

"Wait for him to attack!" Shreya's voice trembled, "And split up to the different paths!" The Minotaur charged. I snapped out of my trance hyper aware of my heart pounding, my nerves on fire, and the skeletons beneath my feet. The Minotaur was so fast–

Wait. Skeletons?

A pale, bony, skeletal hand grabbed the Minotaur's leg, stopping its momentum before it crashed into us.

"Run!" I guess you do need a reminder to do the obvious and run. Shreya's voice was clear. She and Sanha darted to the left. Me and Alyssa went right.

The Minotaur roared and crushed the skeletal hand, running after me and Alyssa. Did we look tastier to him? Or maybe he didn't like that little trick I pulled.

The forest thickened, twigs snagging our skin. We were getting exhausted and the forest didn't seem to turn thin soon.

I needed to pull another trick like that. But I couldn't. How did I do it the first time?!

I glanced at my left. The trees disappeared between us, and Sanha and Shreya were running at our pace.

Sanha's gaze met mine. She lifted her leg and grabbed her shoe, throwing it at the confused Minotaur.

She threw the other one, and this time, it made him falter. I think she wanted to aim for his legs and make him stumble, but it hit his face.

The Minotaur roared, giving us a head start. I could hear the strangled breaths of Alyssa beside me, and the whispers of Hanuman Chalisa from Sanha. I myself didn't have the energy to tell her that would drain her energy.

The forest thinned, and we ran faster than ever. A huge pine tree blocked our way to a slope. The Minotaur roared and charged, but Sanha and my little victory against the Minotaur had energised us. We ran in the opposite direction on time, and the Minotaur slammed his head against the pine. We slid down the slope. The Minotaur grumbled and entered the woods again.

We fell down on the grass. Alyssa beside me, had scratches and bruises all over. She grabbed a rock and flung it at the Minotaur, but he stalked off into the woods. I guessed she was mad she didn't strangle him.

Silence fell for a while. The night sky twinkled. We all were close to passing out, but I managed a hysterical laugh.

"I think I'm going crazy."

And then I fainted.
