Super Science
Ch. 125: A Hero, A Scientist, and A Deadly Land
Day 1
When the light of the Warp Pad engulfed Izuku, he had completely forgotten to close his eyes. He never knew why he should do that, but when he did, he got his answer. Just out of the reach of light, he saw a swirl of clots and sounds that he couldn't describe! It was amazing and terrifying all at once! Is this what they called Eldritch horror? Either way, he could feel his brain start to mush over, so he forced himself to shut his eyes before he became a vegetable. After he closed his eyes, the eternal state of waiting to come out on the other side finally came, and Izuku felt himself fall and roll over Bakugou as he landed in the sand!
After getting up and dusting himself off, he shielded his eyes from the glare of the beaming sun above to take in his surroundings. But once he did, he wished he hadn't, as he saw nothing but a sea of sand all around him. But he knew these dune sands began to freak out.
"Oh no! " he said in a small, panicked voice as he ran around the area, exclaiming, "No, no, no! This can't be happening! This can't be real!" Trying to find a way out or even a warp pad, he finally concluded that he was trapped and half-yelled while grabbing his hair, "This is bad! So, so bad!"
Meanwhile, Bakugou was lying down in the sand, looking up at the clear blue sky like he was lost in a daze. His mind had temporarily gone away after Izuku confronted him, but hearing the teen's voice freak out, he finally got his sense back as he growled in a low tone, "Deku." He rose to his feet as he caught sight of the teen with his back turned and hair in his hands as he froze in place. There, Bakugou began to yell at him, "How dare you look down on me, you little-!"
Though before he could finish that statement, Izuku moved like a flash, jumped to his feet, spun around, rushed him, and promptly slapped him across the face hard enough to knock him back on his butt! Bakugou fell back in shock at the action more than the pain it gave him. He touched his stinging cheek in shock and looked up in confusion at the panting, red-eyed, and mouth-foaming teen who growled at him in a heavy voice, "You. Absolute. Idiot!" Bakgou flinched and scooted away at the seething boy, who marched up, grabbed him by the shi,t and hauled him up while yelling into his face, "Are you happy now!? Are you finally satisfied!?"
Bakugou shook out of his fear shock and shook his head before yelling back, "No! I'm gonna kill you before I feel anywhere close to that!"
Only for Izuku to throw him back to the ground before the blond could raise an exploding hand where he shouted, "Well, it's too late for that since you've already killed us as is!" Bakugou was confused by his words and actions, having never seen the teen act like this before. Seeing only a confused expression in response, Izuku exclaimed, "Don't you get it? Don't you know where we are!?" Izuku took a moment to pause and walk off before proclaiming into the air, "Katsuki. That broken warp pad has sent us to the middle of Pacifica!", with the last word echoing into the sea of sand.
"Pacifica, what's that?", Bakugou finally spoke.
Izuku whipped his head to him and slapped his face before making an exacerbated sigh where he said, like a disappointed parent to their observant child, "Bakugou, you are so smart and such a nerd, yet you can't keep up with current events!? Pacifica is an island that my company created to hold Ungoliant and Torch Wick after they got too big." Bakugku still gave a confused expression, so Izuku huffed a sigh and explained, "The giant spider and dragon that fought Overhaul." only for his explanation to get out of hand as he took a breath between his teeth and divulged, "But then the island got bigger, and we shipped off several hazardous animals and plants because we couldn't use them and had no reason to kill them, and it was also given to Anima for his ecological, environmental experiment, and then it just got out of hand! That's where we are! And we're going to die!", he yelled the last part with a serious tone.
Bakgou finally got back to his feet, pushed the encroaching teen away, and stated, "Why are you acting like such a freaking murderer?"
Izuku, nearly tripping, told him simply, "Did you not hear the part where this place is dangerous and full of criminals from around the world!? Not only that, we're smack dab in the middle of the Singing Dunes!"
"The what?", Bakugou questions with a raised brow.
Izuku let out a growl of irritation and exclaimed, "It's a desert! You can forget killing me 'cause this place will do it for you!"
Bakugou had finally lost any patience he had and aggressively pushed the teen's shoulder while yelling, "The hell is your problem, DEKU!?"
Izuku pushed his shoulder back, which surprised him, and the teen scientist explained while listing off on his fingers, "It's a freaking desert, Bakugou! We have no food, no water, no protection, no nothing! We are at the mercy of the elements and sitting out like a couple of sore thumbs!"
"What are you worried about? This island can't be that big!", Bakugou yelled at him.
"The island is now bigger than India.", Izuku said with an unamused expression, making Bakugou's angry expression turn to sheer flabbergasted. Izuku began to pace around and rub his temples while saying to himself, "Okay, Izuku, okay, just calm down. Panicking is the enemy; it's the worst thing you can do right now. Just use your vast knowledge of this place, and you'll be fine.", saying this he accidentally turned to Bakugou, and upon seeing him his hopeful expression turned to hopelessness as he cried, "God help me, I'm so gonna die."
All of a sudden, a loud sound, like a song, began to echo over the dunes, partially surrounding the two boys in its melody. It was a long, repeating note that got louder and louder the longer they listened. The two boys looked around the dune but found no sign of whatever was making that hauntingly melodious tune.
"Hey, what's that sound?", Bakugou finally asked.
Izuku searched his mind for what this sound could be. When he did, his eyes went wide with fear, and he said in a small voice, "Oh no." Suddenly, he tackled Bakugou and yelled, "Get down!"
Taken by surprise by the action, Bakugou instantly fell to the sand, and Izuku held himself over his body as Bakugou struggled to keep sand from his mouth. After which, he tried to scream, "What the hell are you-!"
But Izuku put a hand over his mouth and hissed, "Sush!"
Pointing silently over the dunes, Bakugou looked out to see what he was pointing at. And saw a shimmering light dancing amongst the others. He couldn't make it out until it got much closer. That is when he saw something that had shimmering silver scales, two small black horns, a black-tipped beak over a long muzzle, large wings, and a winding tail! Its lower jaw was partly buried in the sand, flying over as its head snaked down, catching the rifts of hot air over the dunes on its wings.
Bakugou had never seen a creature like this before and could only say, "What the-? What in the fresh hell is that thing!?"
"It's a Wailing Bishop. It is one of the dragons endemic to this region. They skim the sand, looking for water moles.", Izuku explained before Bakugou gave him another inquisitive look where. Izuku explained further with an eye roll, "Moles that are filled with water keep up; it's in the name."
Suddenly, the Wailing Bishop seemed to catch something in the sand and snapped its jaws shut. It rested atop a dune and swallowed its meal. After eating, its eyes began to dilate in succession, its neck began to pulsate, and it started to make the sound of a dog about to vomit. The sight turned into full-blown, louder, and grosser sounds, and the bishop looked ready to vomit or was choking on it.
"Is it…choking on the sand it ate?", Bakugou asked.
"No.", was all Izuku said as he kept his eyes on the animal.
Suddenly, the bishop finally vomited, and a spray of wet black something erected itself like a stone! It spat this black stuff out three more times, creating a sculpture of black, shining stone that glimmered in the sand. The bishop took a deep breath and tested its throat by singing that same haunting yet beautiful song. Once satisfied, it spread its wings and flew off into the distance.
Once gone, the teens got up from the ground where Bakugou approached the spikes and pillars of black. The tallest one was taller than All Might but thicker than his whole head at the base. Observing them and seeing his reflection, he asks, "What the fuck is that?"
"That would be the Wailing Bishops calling card. Trading out their fire breathing for a superheat organ, they collect, store, and heat up the sand they swallow. Once melted, they spit out the molten glass that they use for a variety of reasons, but sometimes for catching and storing prey.", Izuku explained in full, leaving the blond teen in awe, shock, and horror at the fact that Izuku didn't tackle him when he did, he might be inside of this thing in front of him. For a moment, he couldn't almost see himself inside of the glass through his own reflection. A thought that sent shivers down his spine.
"Now that it's gone, let's get moving," Izuku said as he removed his coat, ripped it in half, and placed one half over his head.
"Uh, to where exactly?", Bakugou questions.
Throwing a piece of his coat at him, Izuku answers, "To the nearest Warp pad. I know for a fact that there are two. Once we get to a high enough place, I can figure out which one is closer. The only problem is that we have to get through the Singing Dunes alive."
"And how do we do that?", Bakugou continued to ask while wrapping and draping the coat over his head and body.
"Surrounding the Signing Dunes is the Crag Mountain Ridge. All we have to do is walk west, and we should hit it. From there, we'll climb to the top, and I'll do the calculation," Izuku explained, wrapping himself in his coat like Bakugou.
Bakugou had nothing else to ask or reply to, so he just stayed silent. But he hated how Izuku was taking charge. If he had even the faintest idea what was going on, he would have done that himself. For now, he would follow and listen, but he'd still beat to his own drum.
Just before they started their journey, Izuku stopped and looked at the sand with one hand out. Bakugou also stopped and watched whatever this weirdo was doing. After looking at the sand for several seconds, he plunged his hand into it and yanked out a creature resembling a mole but far rounder. Then, without even a flinch, Izuku bit and crushed the creature's head in his mouth before spitting it out.
Bakugou was horrified but became disgusted when he began to drink from it like a cup, a mix of blood and water spilling out. When Izuku finally noticed Bakugou staring at him, he wiped his mouth and apologetically handed over the headless body while saying, "Oh, sorry, want some?"
"What the actual fuck?", was all Bakugou could say.
"It's a water mole filled with water, and our only source of it is out here. Now drink up.", Izuku demanded while shoving the animal into his hands.
Bakugou begrudgingly took the thing and closed his eyes. He pretended it was a milk carton and drank it. He nearly gagged from it and felt the shiver run throughout his body. It was a weird flavor and texture he wasn't used to, but at least he would be hydrated. He drank a few more times before Izuku took the rest. He split the animal's body in half and gave one of them to Bakugou, who watched Izuku casually eat the body like it was jerky. Eventually, he ate the body himself, seeing it as his only source of nutrition.
From here, the two boys walked through the desert, with Izuku in the lead and Bakugou following behind. They walked and walked and walked for miles on end with very little rest. They had no shade and only subsisted on water moles Izuku managed to catch. The hours dragged on for what felt like days on end, and Bakugou was beginning to feel the effects. Both boys were already red by now, sweating and trying to keep up, but Bakugou looked even worse.
He was already panting and sweating even harder as he began to lag behind, what with his previous intense training taking a lot out of him.
Finally, he climbed to his knees, needing to catch his breath, and panted, "How much longer do we have to walk?"
Izuku stopped, looked back, and expressed concern at Bakugou's current state. Walking back to him, he observed, "You don't look too good. I'm guessing being in this type of environment is not good for you."
"At Least in Japan, I have access to water and shade. Normally, I like being sweaty and using my quirk. But my overproduction of sweat is working against me. I can feel myself dehydrating with every passing moment. Now answer my question.", Bakugou growled the last part at him.
Izuku rolled his eyes and turned them to the sun, measuring something with his hands as he told him, "If my calculations are correct, and they usually are, we should be at the mountain base in three days."
"Three days?!", Bakugou exclaimed in a yell.
"Yes. Three days. Do I need to explain how big this island is again?", Izuku shot back with irritation, getting beat by the sun's effects.
"Is there any way we can get there faster!?", Bakugou practically begged.
"Not unless you want to be carried off to the nest of a hungry dragon," Izuku said with a shrug.
Bakugou clicked his tongue with a growl and snapped, "This is bullshit."
"The only thing that's bullshit is the fact you got us into this mess.", Izuku muttered to himself.
However, Bakugou heard him and inwardly got defensive and aggressive as he yelled, "Me?! I got us into this?! ME?!"
Fully done by this point, Izuku turned and yelled at him in frustration, "Yes, you! Who else would I be talking to? Do you see any other blonde numbskulls around here?!" Bakugou wanted to say something else. Still, Izuku cut him off as he continued to rant, "If it weren't for you and your fragile ego, followed up by your insistent need for questions like a child, I would have been able to pull us off that Warp Pad and none of this would've happened!", Izuku finished as Bakugou looked away, keeping the aggressive expression on his face.
Only for him to get his nerve back and begin to yell while standing up and popping some sparks in his hands, marching over to him as he said, "Why I outta-!"
Only for Izuku to shout, "STOP!" Bakugou stopped dead in his tracks, stiffly expressing shock. Izuku got low and told him in a hushed voice, "Don't. Take. Another. Step. Keep low and quiet."
"The fuck?! Don't tell me what to do, nerd!", Bakugou yelled at him, continuing to march over as Izuku slapped his hand over his mouth with a panicked expression.
When Bakugou was about to demand why Izuku was acting like this, he heard it first and said it second. In the air over the horizon, he saw the image of a Wailing Bishop flying towards them at top speed. Bakugou inwardly freaked out at seeing the dragon screeching its once-siren call while Izuku's eyes were on the ground. Without a word, the two began to run as fast as they could! They ran for several hundred yards as the dragon closed in, and Izuku kept looking back at the sand. Suddenly, the bishop shot a blast of molten glass between them from long range, and the two nearly diverged from being caught in it!
Izuku looked back at the sand once more and frantically searched around the dunes for something that could help, and when he did, he yelled, "Crap! Forget it! Run to that boulder!"
Looking to where he was pointing, Bakugou saw the large rock sticking out of the sand and used his quirk to propel him further, leaving Izuku behind! When Bakugou looked back at Izuku, he finally noticed what Izuku had been staring at in the sand. Something was moving under it like a fish through water! It was chasing Izuku at first, but now it was after him! Bakugou ignored it as the Wailing Bishop screamed again, getting ever closer!
Bakugou hit the boulder, wondering how in the world this was going to help them. Izuku came close behind, scrambling to the stone! Just when he got onto it, Izuku looked back in fear at the sand, and finally, Bakgou saw what was making Izuku so scared! At that very moment, a huge shape burst from the sand and flung itself upon them! All Bakugou saw was a mouth of teeth and nothing else as his body kicked into fight-and-flight mode!
Fortunately, he never had to see the end result, as the bishop dove down at the same time and snatched up the creature mid-attack before flying off with it in its talons! The two boys were frozen with fear, but once they realized they were safe, they relaxed and lay on the rock with their hearts still racing!
After they calmed down a bit, Izuku heaved out, "That…was too close."
"What was that?!", Bakugou exclaimed in confusion and fear.
Izuku caught his breath before explaining, "Sandworm. They sense vibrations through the earth or loud sounds. Luckily, that Wailing Bishop was there to snap it up instead of us. They usually hunt in groups. Seems like there is only one this time."
Bakugou looked out to where the worm was carried off and felt his blood run cold. With whatever of his mind was left before the insect took over, Bakugou stated, "I don't think it wanted the worm."
"Whaddya mean-oh god!", Izuku yelled as he saw it too.
At some point, the dragon decided it didn't want the Sandworm and dropped it from two hundred feet in the air, where it promptly exploded upon impact with the ground! Then the dragon decided it wanted the two boys and began to fly back to them.
"Now what?", Bakugou inquired.
"RUN!", Izuku shouted as the two of them ran for their lives from the boulder.
The two teens began to run, hoping to find cover or any way to, but found nothing! The dragon had its eyes dead-locked onto them! Once the dragon began to catch u,p it started a barrage of attacks with its molten glass shot! It seems like a waste, especially since Bakugou drew most of its attention with his explosions and dodging them with ease. But it did give the dragon a needed buff. Every time it spat out the glass, its body became lighter and faster! Soon, all the dragon would have to do was catch up and pin them to the ground before finishing them off!
Bakugou saw what was happening, especially when the dragon nearly took a chop from his back as he lagged behind! Blasting himself out of range, he yelled, "Fuck, Deku! How do we fight it!?"
"We can't!" Izuku yelled until his eyes caught something. Changing his tune, he stated, "But I know who can! This way!"
The two teens made a sharp right just as the dragon was about to pounce. It had to stop short and try to turn, only to crash into the sand. The dragon got back up, took a running start, and jumped into the air, still in pursuit of the boys! Bakugou saw the dragon catch up again and wondered why this one area was so important to Izuku. How would this help? Luckily, he got his answer fast.
Just as they were running for their lives through another patch of desert, the bishop flew high into the air, preparing to dive upon them at high speed, but just as it was preparing to dive, something long and white sprung up from the desert sand at lightning speed and snapped the dragon up before pulling it back into the sand at lightning speed! The dragon screeched in pain and fear before the sounds it made died in the sand.
The two boys stopped running, seeing their chaser finally meet its end. As they were winding down from such an event when Bakugou exclaimed, "The shit was that?!"
Izuku breathed in deep to catch his breath and explained in one puff, "Dragon Snapper. They eat dragons or anything that flies."
Bakugou finally noticed the area around him and saw that the dunes were only slightly raised above the ground as if something was just beneath the sand. From this spot, one could see that snappers were in great abundance, but from the sky, they would all look the same. His sense of danger kicked in, and he inquired, "Should we be careful?"
Izuku, breathing heavily while holding himself on his knee, waved off his concern and explained, "The adults are harmless to anything on the ground. Plus, they only move to eat or mate. It's the babies you have to worry about."
"When do they have babies?", asked Bakugou.
Izuku took a moment to think and answered, "Dragon Snappers can reproduce sexually and asexually. They mate during early March and give live birth in late April."
Just As Izuku was casually walking off, Bakugou thought for a bit before informing him, "Deku. It's May."
Izuku stopped in his tracks and, with a wide-eyed expression, could only reply, "Oh no."
Just then, the sand arose in several dozen spots across the area, and a horde of baby dragon snapper screeched whistles and hissed at the two teens, looking at them like they were their next meal. They were milk-white like the parents with beady eyes, shot stubby limbs and tails. Their bodies are flat and have a general vibe. They look like one of those really big and flat frogs while also being just around that size. Their mouths did not shoot out like a chameleon's tongue, though they did open them wide, showing all teeth in their quintuple jaws.
"Run?", Bakugou asked.
"Run.", Izuku confirmed.
The two teens ran from the babies, but to their surprise, they were shockingly fast. They bounced like frogs and scampered across the sand like desert lizards! Even though the teens had long since left the adults, the babies continued to chase them! By now, they were more than exhausted from running all day, and the babies were quickly catching up. It almost looked like the end for them until a thought crossed Bakugou's mind.
He stopped fast and said, "Wait! Why am I running from these!" He then turned to face the oncoming army of baby dragon eaters and yelled while getting into an aggressive stance, "Bring it on, you little shits!"
The baby dragon snappers all lunged at the blonde tee, and they easily disposed of them one after the other with a devastating explosion directly to the face, killing them instantly. Bakugo dodged, weaved, jumped, rolled, and blasted his way out of attacks before countering and eliminating the babies one after the other. Izuku quickly stopped his run and looked back to watch the carnage unfold as Bakugou easily took care of their current predicament. Just when it seemed like things were looking up in their way. A single baby managed to sneak up on Bakugou from the sand and latched onto one of his arms. Biting down hard, Bakugou let out a yell of pain as the baby prepared to rip the limb off, only for the teen to blast it off with ease.
"Bakugou!", Izuku yelled in panic as he ran up to the boy.
But Bakugou held his hand out, telling Izuku to stop. As he fell to his knees, Bakugou clutched his arm. Then, with one motion, he ripped off the sleeve from one of his shirts and wrapped his arm tightly in it, preventing the bleeding from getting any worse.
"Didn't think I had survival skills, did ya?", Bakugou proudly proclaimed before putting on a sour expression and snapping, "And don't call me Bakugou."
"I'll call you whatever I damn well please.", Izuku rumbled back at him while leering down.
Bakugo glared back at him, stood up, and said, "That professor guy has really rubbed off on you."
"For all the best reasons," Izuku said proudly. He then looked up at the sky, saw the sun begin to set over the horizon, and told the blonde teen, "It's getting dark. Let's set up camp at the base of those three dunes to hide ourselves. We'll collect firewood and cook our meals."
"Meals? You don't mean-?", Bakugou began to ask with disgust while looking at the scattered bodies around them.
"You drank six water moles, raw.", Izuku pointed out.
"Fair.", Bakugo begrudgingly agreed.
It was hard for the two of them to find any wood in a desert, but once they had enough, they set it up around the three dunes with a couple of the baby dragon snapper bodies. Bakugo wanted to use his quirk to light the fire, but Izuku stopped him, saying that he would just blow the wood to pieces. So, while izuku got the fire started, Bakugou began to prepare and cook the animals. So, they had a roaring fire to warm themselves on a cold night and a fresh, hot meal that wasn't raw or alive.
The two of them ate the meat one after another, digging into it like it was their last. Luckily, it was still very moist, so they also drank a lot of water from it.
While they were eating And resting after a long day of running and trekking through the desert, Bakugo's eyes wandered around the desert until he saw something in the near distance. Looking closely, he realized that they were a group of camel-like creatures. The teen knew next to nothing about camels but knew that they could be used as transport through the desert.
So we pointed them out to Izuku and asked, "Can we use those things to travel?"
Izuku looked to where he was pointing and saw the Camelot creatures only to tell him with a disappointed tone, "A caravan of Dune Humped Herders? Afraid not. They're pretty aggressive."
Bakugo's side was disappointed and stressed. He rubbed the back of his head and asked the young scientist, "Is it really going to take us three days?"
Izuku finished chewing the rest of his meal and threw away a bone, admitting, "Unless a miracle falls into our path, which I'm praying for."
Bakugo scoffed a dry laugh at this statement and then followed up, "You gonna make a shrine out of bones and sand for the gods?"
"No. I converted to Christianity.", Izuku admitted while interlacing the fingers on his hands, closing his eyes, and bowing his head in prayer.
"That made up religion.", Bakugo questions.
Izuku didn't reply for a long time as he silently prayed. Once he was done, he opened his eyes and replied, "It's not made up, I can assure you."
Bakugo scoffed again before asking with a condescending tone, "What-did you meet an angel?"
"I opened a portal to hell, pulled a demon out, met a half-demon, and met an angel, so yes." Izuku listened as he left Bakugou with a baffled expression. He took a shred of his coat and arranged it like a pillow. He laid his head on it while informing the teen, "Now rest up. We have a long day of travel tomorrow, and luckily, we're ahead of schedule."
Bakugo followed suit. He added a few more sticks to the fire, then arranged his half of the coat and fell to sleep.
"Bakugou. Bakugou. Katski!" Izuku yelled at Bakugou, trying to wake him.
Bakugo stirred from a dead sleep as Izuku slapped his face. Half awake and groggy, he babbled, "Huh-what? What's going on?"
Izuku raised his head, turned it to one side, and said in a low tone while pointing, "Look!"
Bakugo opened his eyes against the sun's glare and saw a large flock of what appeared to be the largest emus he had ever seen! They were sandy blond with heads and necks completely bare of feathers. The other thing Bakugou could say in return was, "Birds?"
"Not just any birds, Sand Racers. We can use them to get to the mountain in a fraction of the time!", Izuku explained with zeal.
"How?", Bakugou asked while finally waking up.
"Follow my lead.", Izuku told him with a grin.
Izuku then lay on the ground and began to shuffle and shimmy through the sand. Slowly and steadily, he moved, with Bakugou following after him. Once they got within a few feet of the birds, they practically lay flat on the sand, and one of the birds moved closer.
Suddenly, Izuku sprang up and grabbed the bird by its neck! They flopped and kicked and jumped around, but Izuku held fast! Then, in one quick motion, he swung himself on the bird's back and controlled it by jerking its head around. At this, the others began to scatter all around in a panic.
"Grab one!", Izuku yelled over the mass of footsteps.
"What do I grab?!", Bakugou yelled back, not hearing him.
"No! Grab ONE! Anyone! Hurry, before the flock runs off!", Izuku yelled over the noise with urgency as his Sand Racer ran off.
Bakugo looked around, but every time he saw a bird to catch, they'd run off or get blocked by another! Before the flock left, he went for it, jumped into the swarm, and grabbed the first one he could! He succeeded and put himself on its back, allowing it to run off with the rest as Bakugou held it by the neck.
From here, the two boys rode the Dune Racers with ease, sprinting across the desert sands. The whole flock moved like a wave, running over dunes and open sweeps while avoiding anything that didn't look good. At one point, the boys relaxed into the bumpy ride as their birds took the front and ran alongside one another. Izuku even began to pet the one he was riding.
Within hours, the Dune racers ran clear across the desert and straight to a river that cut off the sands and led them to a mountain range. There was no mediation between these two geological and environmental structures.
The teens were the first to arrive, and upon seeing the river, Bakugou asked, "Is that?" After clearing his eyes from the sand and glare, he confirmed and began running in thirst while exclaiming, "Water!"
"Wait!", Izuku shouted while grabbing him.
"What now!?", Bakugou yelled while ripping away from him.
"We don't know if it's safe.", Izuku told him, getting a look of realization from the blonde, only for their troubles to be washed aside as the Dune Runners began to drink from it. "Okay, it's safe.", Izuku confirmed as both boys put their faces into the water and drank as their lives depended on it.
After downing water for several minutes, both boys flop onto the ground and breathe in relief.
"I never thought I'd be so happy to see water!", Bakugou exclaimed as he splashed a bit on his sweating face.
"Same!" Izuku agreed, submerging a hand in it and letting the cool sensation wash over him.
After the boys had taken the time to relax, cool off, and wash up, Izuku took note of everything around them. First, it was only 9:00, so the Dune Runners cut their time by nothing. Second, no matter how many times he comes to the island, seeing environments get cut off like a child's drawing will not be mind-boggling to him. Third, the mountain they were at was only the third shortest surrounding the desert. Which means it was tall enough to see everything around without having to waste time climbing. From his view, every mountain was in the shadows of itself. Started as a normally rocky mountain before immediately turning into a winter peak. No doubt it would be cold, and since it was so early, Izuku hoped they could scale the mountain to reach the top and begin to make their way down before nightfall to beat out the frigid cold. If not, they were no more prepared for this than they were with the desert.
With a tired sigh, Izuku said, "Welp, we've finished the first leg of our journey. We just have to climb this mountain to the top."
Bakugo also looks up at the mountain and feels the impossibility of the task ahead. Success has always been cited as climbing a mountain, and now he is doing it literally. But this isn't anything new for him. He's been fighting uphill for his whole life, and now is yet another time to prove it. He just hopes he can do it with Deku.
