Chapter 27: Succubus
After the problem with the emperor was solved, everyone began leaving the audience chamber. It has certainly been an eventful day for all of them. However, as they leave, Yukitsuki notices something.
"Huh? Mother Emilia, where did Mother Hikaru go?" Yuki asks.
Emilia giggles, "Heh-heh, I'm pretty sure she wanted to have a little chat with her brother. Let's pay them no mind," she says, while Iris and Fuyumi sweat drop at the implication.
"Oh, did I miss all the fun already?" a new voice asks and they turn, with Yuki gaining a new smile.
"Aunt Yukio!" Yuki says.
Approaching them is the kitsune who practically rules the entertainment district of the capital, and one of Fuyumi's mistresses, Yukio. Despite several years having flown by, she still looks as young and radiant as ever. As a beastman, she lives a little longer than humans, though nowhere near as long as elves or dragons.
"Yukitsuki, I'm happy to see you again. You look so cute in that kimono. Almost like the Yuki-Onna of legend. Have you been well?" Yukio greats her niece with a warm hug.
"Yes, I've been fine, though my time in school has been more... exciting, so to speak," Yuki replies.
"Yes, Hikaru informed me of what happened. I'm sorry I wasn't there to help, but I'm glad you're alright. I'm also impressed. Two fiances in short succession and one mistress. Better be careful, Fuyumi, or else she might outdo you in the romance department," the fox woman jokes.
"Hopefully not too many," Fuyumi scratches her cheek.
"Well, I'm sure you've had a long day. Come, I'll have some refreshments prepared," Yukio says, leading the way.
Just then, they feel the place shake slightly, paired with a muffled 'boom' sound.
"Hmm, what was that?" Anelia asks.
"Oh, probably Hikaru speaking with the emperor. I'm sure she'll catch up to us later. Now, come along," Yukio says offhandedly.
A few in the group offer silent prayers for the emperor and pray his reign won't end too soon.

Speaking of which, a large crater is seen in the middle of a field in the back. In the center is the emperor himself, smoke flowing off his form.
"H-Hikaru, please, I've already seen the error of my ways. Can't we just move on peacefully?!" Kagero begs as he staggers to his feet.
Hikaru stalks towards him, battle armor on, and cracking her knuckles, "Oh, not quite yet. You put my precious daughter through such an unnecessary and stupid ordeal. You have to accept some punishment for that. What kind of doting parent would I be if I didn't make those who mess with my daughter pay?" she says this with a sweet-looking smile, but the dark aura around her body gives off a more ominous impression.
Kagero screams as Hikaru beats him to a bloody pulp. Off to the side, the former emperor and empress watch on just in case Hikaru takes things too far. The guards and servants offer silent prayers to the emperor. They may be his servants, but they're not stupid enough to get in the way of the dragon princess when she gets this angry, not unless they want to go to an early grave.

In a room of the palace away from the carnage, Yukio sits with the family as they speak on recent events. Yukio had made trips to Anatolia in the past, but her work keeps her busy, so she can't come around all the time.
"Well, I'm not surprised you had a few issues at the academy at first, Yuki, but that wa to be expected. However, showcasing your strengths and talents while forcing those who looked down on you to see their own failings certainly helped. It was the same for your mother. There will always be those in noble society who look down on those of common blood and revel in their own noble blood. They all seem to forget that their ancestors were commoners in the past. Commoners who proved themselves with their talent and skills. That is how victory is truly paved in front of you. With your own efforts, not your bloodline," Yukio says.
"Thank you, Aunt Yukio. At least I've made a few friends there, and was able to meet Hiei and Hana," Yuki looks at her fiances, warmth in her eyes.
"Yes, well, try to keep the public displays of affection to a minimum, hmm. There will be time for that later. So, Veronica, I was surprised to hear about your exploits and origins. Though, you helped save my darling niece, and I am grateful for that. Should you ever find yourself in the entertainment district and require aid, or are looking to partake with some of the finest samples there, just look for me and I'll happily lend you my assistance," Yukio says.
"Appreciated, Lady Yukio. My demon species survive off of such... samples," Veronica says.
"Your species?" Hiei asks.
"There are different demon species, just as there are different beastmen species. I am a demon succubus," Veronica clarifies.
"A succubus?!" Hiei shrieks, her face turning red.
"What, did your mind go into the gutter, Hei?" Veronica smirks.
"N-N-Nothing of the sort!" Hiei looks away.
"Hahaha, you're much too easy, Hiei. While my kind rely on the sexual energy of our partners to survive, we're not as bad as the stories suggest. Yes, some do kill their partners after one night, but those were the hungry idiots who couldn't control themselves. I've learned how to control my urges. This way, i can have wonderful sex without draining the life force from my partners, not unless I want to. I might make them forget the experience though. Anyway, Lady Yukio, a very generous offer, but as I've now tied myself to Yuki, I'll have to pass. Don't want anyone to accuse me of being unfaithful," Veronica turns down the offer.
"Very well. Fuyumi is actually the same way. Despite me offering her those same services, she's refused. Besides, she has me all to herself and her lovers anyway," Yukio says, winking at her lover.
"Um, can we NOT talk about my love life like this in front of my daughter please?" Fuyumi gets embarrassed.
Just then, the doors open and Hikaru walks in, wearing a bright smile on her face.
"Feel better now?" Iris asks.
"Oh yes, very much so. My idiot brother won't cause us anymore problems. Now, we can finally enjoy our vacation. In fact, I even managed to coer-I mean persuade my brother into doing something more, as an apology for this little mishap," Hikaru says.
"You were about to say 'coerce' weren't you?" Emilia cocks an eyebrow, but Hikaru just looks away with a whistle.
"What are you talking about?" Yuki asks.
"We'll be holding a little festival here in the capital. You haven't been back in a long while, Yuki, and I wanted you to enjoy the best my home has to offer. More importantly, this festival also acts as an announcement to the people about your engagement to Hiei and Hanazuki. It will be great!" Hikaru says.
"Huh?' Yuki, Hana, and Hiei utter together.
"I guess it would at least keep others from pursuing you with ulterior motives," Iris notes.
"Ser Iris! But broadcasting our engagement to the rest of the nation so soon?! I'm not sure I'm ready for that kind of attention just yet," Hiei worries.
"It's bound to happen eventually. Might as well get it out of the way now so there are no problems later down the road," Hana doesn't mind.
"I want to go to the festival with you and Hana, Hiei. I think it will be fun," Yuki agree with Hana.
Seeing as she's been out-voted, Hiei hangs her head in defeat. Perhaps one day, they'll get her to loosen up a bit more. As the continue the discussion, however, Yuki feels something within her chest. Glancing around, she notices Veronica looking a bit different. Almost like she's unwell, but is trying to hide it.

Later that evening, Veronica is returning to her room, moving a bit slower than normal. Wiping more sweat off her brow, she enters her room which she has all to herself. She sits on her bed and takes a few breaths.
"Damn it, why did this have to happen now with everything going on?" Veronica mutters, clutching her chest.
"Veronica, it's me, Yuki. I'm coming in," Veronica gets spooked when she hears Yuki's voice outside her door.
Before she can stop her, Yuki enters the room, "I was hoping to speak to you alone for a while," Yuki says as she closes the door,
"But what about the guards? There were some nearby, right?" Veronica says.
"I sent them away. I am a princess here, after all," Yuki shrugs her shoulders. Right. Veronica forgot about that. "Anyway, something is bothering you, isn't there, Veronica. I could feel something within me, and I believe it's my soul connection to you. I'm right, aren't I,"
Veronica wasn't expecting the gift she gave to Yuki to be used against her like this. With that soul connection between them, they could feel each other's presence and could get hints when something was wrong with one or the other.
Seeing as her secret is blown, Veronica sighs in defeat, "Yes. Remember what I told you that because of our connection, my mana drains out of me. Well, it's gotten pretty low over the past few days,"
Yuki realizes her mistake. Veronica said that she needs physical contact with Yuki on a regular basis to keep her strength up.
