Episode 447: Meeting A Couple of Old Friends
A few hours have passed after leaving Veilstone City, so Sora gets challenged into a Pokémon battle by a young woman wearing an orange jumpsuit. Unknown to the couple, they were being watched by a boy and a girl. The girl has purplish black hair and blue eyes. The boy has deep purple hair and blue eyes. The girl wore a lavender dress, white dress shoes. The boy wore a dark green vest over a white shirt, blue shorts, and yellow shoes.
"That's him, isn't it, Natalia?" The boy asked.
"It is, Sebastian. I'd recognize that spiky hair anywhere," Natalia said.
"It looks like he's about to have a Pokémon battle, but who's that girl with him?" Sebastian asked.
"How about it? Let's make it a three-on-three Pokémon battle," the young woman said.
"I'm game," Sora said.
"A game you will lose," the young woman said. She took out a Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Rhyhorn!" Her Pokéball opened and out came a female Rhyhorn. Sora took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"Snover! Let's go!" Sora called out. Snover came out to battle.
"Rhyhorn! Use Fire Fang!" The young woman ordered. Rhyhorn charges at Snover with her mouth emitting fire.
"Dodge and use Powder Snow!" Sora ordered. Snover dodged Rhyhorn's Fire Fang and fired a Powder Snow, hitting the Spikes Pokémon.
"Shake it off and use Horn Attack!" The young woman ordered. Rhyhorn just took it and charges right at Snover with a Horn Attack.
"Use Razor Leaf!" Sora ordered. Snover fired a Razor Leaf, hitting Rhyhorn on the mark.
"Rhyhorn! Use Horn Attack!" The young woman ordered. Rhyhorn charges with another Horn Attack.
"Use Razor Leaf!" Sora ordered. Snover fired a Razor Leaf, hitting Rhyhorn on the mark. "Use Bullet Seed!" Snover fired a Bulet Seed, hitting Rhyhorn. The Spikes Pokémon has been taken down. She called back her Rhyhorn and took out another Pokéball and threw it.
"Go! Altaria!" The young woman called out. Altaria came out to battle. Sora called back Snover took out another Pokéball and threw it.
"Shieldon! Let's go!" Sora called out. Shieldon came out to battle.
"So, it's a Rock-type and Steel-type, huh? I have just the attack to use against that! Altaria! Use Steel Wing!" The young woman ordered. Altaria flew right at the Shield Pokémon with a Steel Wing.
"Shieldon! Use Protect!" Sora ordered. Shieldon creates a protective barrier around himself and the attack bounces off. "Use Rock Slide!" Shieldon fired a Rock Slide right at the Humming Pokémon. "Use Iron Head!" Shieldon jumped up to deliver an Iron Head.
"Use Steel Wing to block it!" The young woman ordered. Altaria uses Steel Wing to block Shieldon's Iron Head. "Use Dragon Claw!" Altaria came down at with its talons giving off a purple glow.
"Protect!" Sora ordered. Shieldon uses Protect to block Altaria's Dragon Claw. "Flash Cannon!" Shieldon fired a Flash Cannon, hitting Ataria. The Humming Pokémon starts to fall.
"Use Iron Head!" Sora ordered. Shieldon charged at Altaria and lands a heavy blow. Altaria is down for the count. Shieldon lets out a loud cry as he began to evolve. Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel were surprised and awestruck by Shieldon's sudden evolution. "You're evolving!" Shieldon has become a Pokémon which appears to be a cross between a ceratopsian such as chasmosaurus and a bulldozer. His dark gray, square head resembles a castle wall, complete with four cream-yellow, window-like spots with a black outline, three dark gray spikes on the top, and two larger gray spikes in the upper corners. His triangular nose extends from the middle of his shield-like head down over his lips and appears to be pierced by a gray, horizontal spike. Four spikes jut downward and four large, blunt tusks protrude upward from his dark gray lower jaw. His cream-yellow eyes are partially obscured by the nasal spike and spaced-out tusks. His thick, cream-yellow body is further protected by a gray ridge and dark gray plates on its back, jagged growths on his legs, and a plated tail. "Let's check this out." Sora took out his Rotom Phone and scanned his newly evolved Pokémon.
Bastiodon, the Shield Pokémon
The evolved form of Shieldon
Type: Rock/Steel
Bastiodon is a docile Pokémon by nature. When its young are in danger in threats of predators, groups of these Pokémon circle around their young, facing the enemy. The enemy's assault is repelled by its shield-like face.
"Cool, a Bastiodon," Sora said. Sora puts his Rotom Phone away. The young woman called back her Altaria back and she took out a Great Ball and threw it.
"Go! Rapidash!" The young woman called out. Her Pokéball opened and a Kantonian Rapidash came out to battle. Sora called back Bastiodon and took out another Pokéball and threw it.
"Okay, Prinplup! You're going in!" Sora called out. The Pokéball opened and Prinplup came out to battle. "Prinplup! Hydro Pump!" Prinplup fired a Hydro Pump and sent it right at the Fire Horse Pokémon.
"Dodge and use High Horsepower!" The young woman ordered. Rapidash dodged Prinplup's Hydro Pump and charged with a High Horsepower.
"Try to dodge it!" Sora called out. Prinplup was about to dodge, but Rapidash came too fast to dodge in time.
"Use Solar Beam!" The young woman ordered. Rapidash began to build up solar energy.
"Bubble Beam!" Sora ordered. Prinplup fired Bubble Beam right at Rapidash, hitting the Fire Horse Pokémon. Rapidash dodged and fired Solar Beam, sending it right at the Penguin Pokémon. "Use Metal Claw!" Prinplup's flippers gave off a metallic glow and uses it to cut through Rapidash's Solar Beam. Prinplup then suts through Rapidash's Solar Beam and slashed the Fire Horse Pokémon. "Use Bubble Beam!" Prinplup fired a Bubble Beam, hitting it. Rapidash was beaten. "Way to go, Prinplup."
"Prinlup, Prin," Prinplup said.
The young woman called back her Rapidash back and walked off.
"I thought you were easy," the young woman said.
"That was great, Sora," Kairi said.
"Eevee," Eevee said.
"Thanks, Kairi. Let's keep going," Sora said.
"Hello, Sora," Natalia said as she and Sebastian approached the couple. Sora was surprised to see the both of them.
"Natalia, Sebastian?" Sora asked.
"It's been a long time, Sora," Sebastian said.
"I don't believe it. I haven't seen you since you moved," Sora said.
"Sora, do you know them?" Kairi asked.
"Yeah. This is Natalia and her younger twin brother Sebastian. Guys, meet Kairi, my girlfriend," Sora said.
"Girlfriend?! So the rumors of you having a girlfriend is true after all!" Natalia said.
"And she's a pretty girl," Sebastian said.
"Um, thanks," Kairi said, blushing at the compliment.
Eevee," Angel said.
"Pika," Pikachu said. The twins looked at the Pokémon couple.
"Look at that. A Pikachu and an Eevee. I'm guessing Pikachu is yours," Sebastian said.
"Yeah, Pikachu is the first Pokémon I have ever gotten. I caught a lot of Pokémon since I began my journey," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu said.
"Oh, such a cute Pokémon," Natalia cooed.
"Pika, Pika," Pikachu said.
"How do you know them, Sora?" Kairi asked.
"Well, believe it or not, their mom and my dad actually knew each other when they were kids. It's the same thing with me and these two," Sora said.
"Our mom had a crush on Sora's dad at the time, but she gave up on him since he married Sora's mom," Sebastian said.
"Is that right?" Kairi asked.
"Yeah. How about we make a stop and we can catch up," Sora said.
"Okay," Natalia said.
With that said, Sora, Kairi, Natalia, Sebastian, Pikachu, and Angel made a stop as Sora and Kairi have shared their story about how they met and how they became a couple. Also, how their adventures not only in Kanto, but also in the Johto and Hoenn regions, too. Natalia was a bit flustered, but she's happy for Sora.
"And it's amazing that you've been to Johto and Hoenn, and here you are in Sinnoh," Sebastian said.
"Even though we saw you on TV," Natalia said.
"How many Gym Badges do you have?" Sebastian asked.
"I got four," Sora said, showing his old friends his Sinnoh Gym Badges. "The Cobble Badge is my latest one."
"And I have four Contest Ribbons, so I need just one more to qualify for the Sinnoh Grand Festival," Kairi said.
"Anyway, enough about us, tell us about yourselves? What's new with you?" Sora asked. The twins sadly looked at each other and sighed. Sora and Kairi quickly picked it up. "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
"Well, I wish I can say we're without any tragedy, but..." Sebastian paused.
"Sebastian, no," Natalia pleaded.
"I think he should know. We can trust him," Sebastian said.
"Should know about what?" Sora asked. Natalia sighed.
"Sora, our mom is in a coma," Natalia admitted. This shocked Sora greatly.
"What? When? How?" Sora asked.
"It happened three years ago. You see, we were out in a drive like we do every weekend. We were heading for the park when our mother suddenly lost consciousness. We were lucky to be alive, same with our mom. The doctors told us that she's perfectly healthy, they couldn't understand what was wrong with her, so she's been in bed, and our uncle is watching over her even as we speak," Natalia explained.
"Your uncle? Does your dad know about this?" Kairi asked.
"Well, the thing is, our dad died for unknown reasons a long time ago. We never did find out why it happened to him," Natalia said.
"It's true. It happened when they were little," Sora said, remembering the tragedy. Kairi felt sorry for the both of them since it reminded her of when she first learned about Sora's father.
"I didn't know about what happened to your mom, I'm sorry if I asked," Sora apologized.
"Don't apologize, Sora. You couldn't have known," Natalia said.
"Yeah, it's not like we were trying to keep it a secret," Sebastian said.
"Since you know I'm a Trainer, what about you two? Are you Pokémon Trainers, too?" Sora asked.
"Yeah, we are," Sebastian said.
"In fact, I was thinking that we could have a tag battle to show you how good we are after watching your battle from earlier," Natalia said.
"You sure about that?" Kairi asked.
"We're sure. After all, we might as well have a battle and see what you two can do together," Sebastian said. Sora turned to his girlfriend.
"So, you up for a tag battle, Kairi?" Sora asked.
"I'm game, Sora. But let's make it interesting," Kairi said.
"Interesting, how?" Natalia asked.
"Let's make it that each one of us uses three Pokémon each. Switching Pokémon is allowed, and like an official tournament, we battle until the Pokémon is unable to battle. And the team that knocks out the opposing team's Pokémon the most wins," Kairi said.
"I'm down with that," Sebastian said.
"Me too. We can get started," Sora said. The couple and the twins got into position for their match. "Okay, you two. You can make the first move."
"Alright," Sebastian said, taking out a Dive Ball and threw it. "Go for it, Floatzel!" The Dive Ball opened and out came an orange Pokémon resembling an anthropomorphic otter or weasel with longer arms than legs. It has four fingers on each hand and three toes on each foot. Its feet are small in comparison to the rest of the body. It has two pointed blue fins on its arms; two aligned, backward-swept, pointed fins on its head; and two tails, which can spin like a propeller in a similar way to Buizel's. It has cream colorations on its forehead, eyelids, muzzle, belly, and the tips of its forelimbs and tails. It also has two cream, slightly protruding, oval-shaped spot on its back. There is an orange teardrop shape near the bottom of its belly, and a pattern of two black triangles on the edges of its muzzle. It has small, sharp canine teeth, the top two of which can be seen when its mouth is closed. Natalia took out a Pokéball and threw it.
"I choose you, Vespiquen!" Natalia called out. Her Vespiquen came out to battle.
"Let's have a look at this one," Sora said, taking out his Rotom Phone and scanned it.
Floatzel, the Sea Weasel Pokémon
The evolved form of Buizel
Type: Water
With the flotation sacs on its body, it inflates the sacs that not only prevents it from drownimg, but it rescues people who are in distress. When it dives to hunt for prey, it deflates its sacs.
"Buizel's evolved form, huh?" Sora asked, putting his Rotom Phone away. He turned to his partner. "You ready to go, Pikachu?"
"Pika," Pikachu said.
"Go for it," Sora said. Pikachu stepped in. Kairi nodded as she turned to Angel.
"If Pikachu's going in, then so is Angel," Kairi said.
"Eevee, vee!" Angel said, stepping in.
"Let's get this party started! Floatzel! Start things up with a Razor Wind!" Sebastian ordered. Floatzel swings its two tails and fired crescent-shaped energy waves at Pikachu and Angel, landing a hit on the both of them.
"Vespiquen! Use Attack Order!" Natalie ordered. Vespiquen releases multiple grubs from her body towards Angel.
"Angel! Use Swift to block that!" Kairi ordered. Angel fired Swift to block Vespiquen's Attack Order.
"Floatzel! Use Water Pulse on Eevee!" Sebastian ordered. Floatzel sends a Water Pulse at Angel.
"Pikachu! Use Iron Tail to send it back!" Sora ordered. Pikachu swings his tail and sends it right into the air. "Okay, Pikachu! Thunderbolt on Vespiquen!" Pikachu fired Thunderbolt at Vespiquen.
"Defense Order!" Natalia ordered. Vespiquen has her grubs form a defensive shield, making Pikachu's Thunderbolt bounce off. "Now, use Attack Order on Pikachu!" Vespiquen sends Attack Order right at Pikachu.
"Dodge with Quick Attack!" Sora ordered. Pikachu dodges Vespiquen's Attack Order and lands a hit with Quick Attack.
"Floatzel! Use Aqua Jet on Eevee!" Sebastian ordered. Floatzel uses an Aqua Jet right at Angel.
"Dodge and use Headbutt!" Kairi ordered. Angel dodged Floatzel's Aqua Jet and lands a Headbutt onto Floatzel's back.
"Use Ice Fang!" Sebastian ordered. Floatzel came at Angel with an Ice Fang.
"Quick Attack to dodge!" Kairi ordered. Angel dodged. "Use Swift!" Angel fired Swift at Floatzel and Vespiquen.
"Pikachu! Use Thunderbolt!" Sora ordered. Pikachu fired a Thunderbolt, shocking both Vespiquen and Floatzel. Both Pokémon were knocked out. The twins called back their fallen Pokémon.
"Sora's even better for real than on TV," Sebastian said.
"Yeah, but it's not over yet," Natalia said, taking out another Pokéball and threw it. "Go! Kadabra!" Her Pokéball opened and a female Kadabra came out to battle. Sebastian took out a regular Pokéball and threw it.
"Magneton! You're going in!" Sebastian called out. A Magneton came on out to battle.
"Okay, Pikachu, come on back," Sora said.
"You too, Angel," Kairi said. Pikachu and Angel returned to Sora and Kairi's side. Kairi took out a Pokéball and threw it. "Drifloon! Go!" Kairi's Drifloon came out to battle. Sora took out a Pokéball and also threw it.
"Gabite! You're going in!" Sora called out. His Pokéball opened and Gabite came out to battle. "Gabite can cover for Drifloon's weakness against Electric-type attacks."
"I know I can always count on you, Sora," Kairi said.
"You think my Magneton only knows Electric-type moves? Think again! Magneton! Use Gyro Ball on Gabite!" Magneton spins around and heads right towards Gabite.
"Use Dig!" Sora ordered. Gabite dug underground to avoid Magneton's attack.
"Kadabra! Use Shadow Ball on Drifloon!" Natalia ordered. Kadabra fired a Shadow Ball.
"Dodge and use Ominous Wind!" Kairi ordered. Drifloon dodged Kadabra's Shadow Ball and blew an Ominous Wind right at the Psi Pokémon.
"Magneton! Use Shock Wave on Drifloon!" Sebastian ordered. Magneton was about to use Shock Wave on the Balloon Pokémon when Gabite erupts from the earth and struck the Magnet Pokémon after coming out. "Magneton!"
"Way to go! Use Dragon Rush!" Sora ordered. Gabite rushes at Magneton with a Dragon Rush.
"Kadabra! Use Psycho Cut on Gabite!" Natalia ordered. Kadabra swings her spoon and sends out a crescent-shaped blade of psychic energy, hitting the Cave Pokémon. "Psycho Cut again!" Kadabra sends out another Psycho Cut right at Gabite.
"Use Dragon Claw to cancel it out!" Sora ordered. Gabite slashed Kadabra's Psycho Cut with Dragon Claw.
"Drifloon! Use Shadow Ball on Kadabra!" Kairi ordered. Drifloon fired a Shadow Ball right at Kadabra, dealing some heavy damage.
"Megneton! Gyro Ball on Drifloon!" Sebastian ordered. Magneton spins around and lands a hit on the Balloon Pokémon. "Shock Wave!" Magneton fired a Shock Wave, hitting Drifloon, dealing some heavy damage. Drifloon then started to evolve as well. Drifloon has now become a Drifblim.
"You're a Drifblim, now. Drifblim! Use Ominous Wind!" Kairi ordered. Driblim unleashed Ominous Wind, blowing Magneton and Kadabra in the mix.
"Gabite! Use Dragon Claw on Magneton!" Sora ordered.
"Drifblim! Shadow Ball on Kadabra!" Kairi ordered.
Gabite slashed at Magneton with Dragon Claw as Drifblim fired Shadow Ball at Kadabra, landing a hit.
"Megneton! Shock Wave on Gabite!" Drifblim!" Sebastian ordered. Magneton fired a Shock Wave at the Blimp Pokémon.
"Gabite! In front of Drifblim!" Sora called out. Gabite got in front of Drifblim, taking the hit. Gabite's resistance to electrical attacks came in handy for the couple's favor. "Okay, Gabite! Dragon Pulse on Magneton!" Gabite fired a Dragon Pulse, hitting the Magnet Pokémon.
"Drifblim! Use Phantom Force!" Kairi ordered. Drifblim sinks into a shadowy void.
"Gabite! Dig!" Sora ordered. Gabite dug underground.
"Be on your toes, Kadabra," Natalia said.
"Keep your eyes opened for Gabite, too. They can come out at any moment," Sebastian said. And they do exactly that. Not too long, Drifblim submerged from the void and struck Kadabra on the mark. Gabite then came out and lands a hit onto Magneton, resulting in a double knockout. The twins called back their fallen Pokémon and smiled.
"That was awesome, you two," Sebastian said.
"You two make quite a team, so how about we give it our best in the last match," Natalia said, taking out another Pokéball.
"I'm right with you, big sis!" Sebastian said, taking out another Pokéball and threw it. "Okay, Annihilape! Go!" His Pokéball opened and an Annihilape emerged from inside.
"Hariyama! I choose you!" Natalia called out. Her Hariyama came out to battle. Sora and Kairi called back Gabite and Drifblim and they took out their Pokéballs and threw them.
"Staravia! Go!" Sora and Kairi called out as the two Staravia came out to battle. "Aerial Ace!"
"Hariyama! Start up with Bulk Up and then, use Force Palm!" Hariyama began to tighten its muscles and then came right at the two Starling Pokémon, blocking their Aerial Ace.
"Acrobatics on Annihilape!" Sora ordered.
"Use Wing Attack on Hariyama!" Kairi ordered. Sora's Staravia uses Acrobatics while Kairi's Staravia flew in with a Wing Attack.
"Annihilape! Use Cross Chop on the one that just hit you!" Sebastian ordered. Annihilape crosses its arms together and lands a hit onto Sora's Staravia. "Rock Tomb!"
"Use Stone Edge!" Natalia ordered. Annihilape summoned rock pillars from the earth and struck Sora's Staravia while Hariyama hurls rocks at Kairi's Staravia, landing a heavy blow. Both Staravia were knocked out from the Rock-type attacks. Sora and Kairi called back their Staravia.
"Looks like they're making quite a comeback," Sora said.
"Sure looks like it to me, too," Kairi said. Kairi took out Driblim's Pokéball and threw it. "Drifblim! Go!" Sora took out Gabite's Pokéball and threw it.
"Gabite! Back to action!" Sora called out. His Pokéball opened and Gabite came back out to battle. "Gabite! Use Dragon Rush on Annihilape!"
"Drifblim! Use Shadow Ball on Hariyama!" Kairi ordered. Drifblim fired a Shadow Ball right at Hariyama as Gabite charges right at Annihilape.
"Dodge that and use Rage Fist on Drifblim!" Sebastian ordered.
"Hariyama! Use Seismic Toss on Gabite!" Natalia ordered. Annihilape dodged Gabite's Dragon Rush and lands a ghostly punch onto the Blimp Pokémon, dealing some heavy damage on her. Hariyama grabbed Gabite and rolls into the air before throwing Gabite straight down to the ground. Gabite was down for the count.
"Annihilape! Use Rock Tomb!" Sebastian ordered. Drifblim is struck by the rock pillars the Rage Monkey Pokémon has summoned. Drifblim had been knocked out. Sora and Kairi called back their fallen Pokémon.
"It looks like it's up to the two of you," Sora said.
"Pikachu," Pikachu nodded.
"Do your best, Angel," Kairi said.
"Vee," Angel said as they stepped back in to battle.
"Okay, Annihilape! Use Rage Fist on Pikachu!" Annihilape came right for Pikachu with a Rage Fist.
"Angel! Get in front of Pikachu!" Kairi called out. Angel does exactly that and took the hit from Annihilape's Rage Fist, so thankfully, Angel's immunity to Ghost-type moves paid off.
"Nice save, Kairi," Sora said.
"Just repaying you for earlier, Sora. Now, we're even," Kairi said.
"Thanks again," Sora said.
"They're more of a team than I thought they are. And that's the whole reason I wanted to hae this battle with you to begin with. I wanted to see how strong the bond the two of you have is, and I got my answer," Natalia said in her thoughts.
"Annihilape! Use Rock Tomb!" Sebastian ordered.
"Hariyama! Force Palm!" Natalia ordered.
"Angel! Use Headbutt on Hariyama!" Kairi ordered. Angel ran and lands a Headbutt onto Haiyama, making the Arm Thrust Pokémon flinch.
"Pikachu! Volt Tackle!" Sora ordered. Pikachu charges at Annihilape with electricity coming from his body and lands a heavy, electrical tackle onto Annihilape, taking some recoil damage from Volt Tackle. Annihilape was taken down.
"Annihilape!" Sebastian gasped.
"Angel! Use Swift!" Kairi ordered.
"Hariyama! Use Bulk Up!" Natalia ordered. Hariyama tightens its muscles as Swift does little damage due to Hariyama's increased defense. "Force Palm!"
"Pikachu! Thunderbolt! Full Power!" Sora ordered. Pikachu fired Thunderbolt, shocking Hariyama and dealing some heavy damage.
"Angel! Use Swift again!" Kairi ordered. Angel fired Swift once again as Hariyama is pelted by the stars while being shocked. It kept on until Pikachu has stopped using Thunderbolt and Angel stopped using Swift. Hariyama was down for the count. The twins have lost the battle.
"Way to go!" Sora and Kairi both exclaimed. Natalia and Sebastian called back their fallen Pokémon and smiled.
"That was a great match. You definitely deserved to win that one," Sebastian said.
"Yeah, you did," Natalia agreed as she smiled. "You make an amazing team as well as a couple." Sora and Kairi smiled at that.
"That's really nice of you to say," Sora said.
"Anyway, Sora, there's one more thing I think you should know. I wanted to say this just to get it off my chest," Natalia said.
"What?" Sora asked. Natalia blushed a bit as she was about to speak.
"Well, the truth is, I kinda had a crush on you when we were little. It was all because of how nice you were to me. Most of the other kids weren't very nice to me, unlike you. But a lot of girls in our class, and in different classes had a crush on you, because you're a cute boy, and you grew really handsome since the last time we saw you," Natalia said. Kairi felt a little jealous as Sora blushed at that.
"Uh, I' flattered that you felt that way about me, bu-" Sora was cut off.
"I know, Sora. I know you don't have the same kind of feelings for me, and I'm okay with it. And you two look so happy together, so I know you're happy with her," Natalia said. Kairi didn't feel jealous anymore since Natalia knows Sora is loyal only to Kairi as a significant other. "Besides, we're just happy to see you."
"Well, thank you," Sora said.
"No, Sora. Thank you for that awesome battle. We're with you in spirit," Sebastian said.
"So, we'll wish you luck in the Sinnoh Pokémon League," Natalia said.
"Well, we should be going, so we'll keep in touch, and I'll let Ash, Leaf, Chase, and Elaine know you said hi," Sora said.
"Thanks for that," Natalia said.
So Sora, Kairi, Pikachu, and Angel have taken their leave as they continue on toward Lake Valor before heading for Pastoria City. Natalia and Sebastian knew they were going to see Sora again at some point.
Meanwhile, in a bedrroom, a woman with Natalia's appearance lays in bed, in her coma as a man watches over her. This woman is Natalia and Sebastian's mother.

As it turns out, Insidious was responsible for what had happened to her, intending to kill her and her two children, but he failed to do so, much to his disappointment.
