I know I shouldn't be walking here—really, I shouldn't. This time last year, I barely escaped when those aliens invaded, saved by the Teen Team showing up just in time to let me escape with my daughter.
Now, it looks like my paranoia is being proven correct, as another portal opens right in the middle of the road.
Another portal, smaller, but you can't tell me it's not bad when a fucking spectre comes through it. Some black cloak-wearing thing with no face. Right alongside a dead tiger. Fangs and paws glowing with purple fire and growling like a beast cornered.
The Ghost and the Tiger encircle a third figure to jump through that portal. I think she's a superhero with white armour and a mask covering the bottom half of her face.
Most everyone else is already running, but I'm frozen. In my mind, I see the aliens coming at me even as the phantom starts throwing daggers at the superheroine. Blocking them with a shield of some kind and then ducking around a pounce from the tiger.
The wraith throws something from her hand, and then suddenly... a grim reaper, a giant 20-foot-tall reaper in a black cloak with a skull face, and a scythe come right at the heroine. Once more, the attack is blocked, only to send the construct headed right to the building above me.
By the time I even realize what's happening, a large piece of rubble is coming down right on my head. I try running, but it's too big. I'm going to get…
What is this…. Around my chest and.
I'm wrapped in fabric, and the next thing I know, I'm out of harm's way. I look up only to panic as I see that the Wraith has just saved me.
Panic sets in even more, seeing that empty hole where a head under a cloak should be. I scream and run, praying as I go this monster won't do anything on the way.
Unfortunately for this dark fighter, a superhero is nearby. Rex Splode was already in uniform and ready. He jumps onto the scene and throws one of his explosives, hitting the spectre-looking woman right in the back. This sends her flying forward, and a small light engulfs her like an energy engulfing her is being torn off. The cloak is now just a regular cloak, revealing a tan-skinned woman's face.
The Tiger growls and pounces, but Rex's ever-cocky self quickly slings another right into the mouth of the roaring tiger. Instead of exploding into some bloody mess, the beast turns into pure light and then shrinks into a small cube the size of a playing die.
The villain quickly grabs it as she gets to her feet, throwing three more dice at Rex and yelling something about darkness. The dice disappear, forming a symbol in the air before Rex is accosted by a creature made of black smoke.
Mentally, the Superhero thanked his goggles for keeping whatever this fog was out of his eyes as he waded through it, igniting another of his explosive disks.
The Villianess turned her back to Rex, looking for the Superheroine she had been fighting initially, but the white-adorned woman is nowhere to be seen.
When Rex throws a larger explosive at her, she is quick to move and throws two more dice, bright blue ones, which form a translucent barrier in front of her.
"Hiding, how very villainous of you," Rex said with a cheeky smirk as he closed the distance. He placed the flat of his palm against the barrier, and just like his own projectiles, he primed it for explosion.
Eyes wide, the woman he was fighting pushed the item away again before it exploded.
Once more, reaching for the sachel at her side for more of these stones. Rex is quicker, throwing an explosive that goes off at her feet, sending her off balance, and then landing one sucker punch right to the side of the head. The dark-themed villain lands on her stomach and drops the stones she was about to throw.
"Neat tricks, but you're coming with us now," Rex smirked. "Uh, HEY, Cecil. Don't have any cuffs on me; get out here and earn your paycheque, why don't you." Rex yelled at the top of his lungs.
As if he had literally summoned them, several men and women in full gear appeared, weapons drawn, and power-inhibiting cuffs put on whoever this is.
"Good work, Rex." Rex hears, simple and to the point, through his earpiece.
"Uh-huh, as always!" he said before turning to the girl who was being cuffed. So short, edgy, and evil, I hope you enjoy the slammer." He said mockingly, even if the defeated foe is too dizzy from that punch to offer up a retort.
On a building several dozen stories above, where the whole scene occurs, that white-adorned figure looks down. She glances at something in her satchel: a black die with a dark purple symbol on each side and another green one glowing with immense power. "One little hiccup so far." She said before glancing at a camera she sees across the street. "I'll have good news for you soon," She said before vanishing into thin air.
