Act 1: A City of Secrets

The streets of Soleanna stretched before them, golden spires catching the midday sun. The canals glistened, and gondolas drifted lazily through the water, carrying civilians unaware of the tension brewing beneath the surface.

Sonic, Tails, and Amy stood at the edge of the city square, scanning the skyline.

"No Eggman activity yet," Tails murmured, adjusting his Miles Electric. "But we can't be sure."

Amy frowned. "It's too quiet. If Eggman was really here, we'd have seen something by now."

Sonic crossed his arms. "Guess that means it's time to talk to your mysterious lead, Rouge."

Behind them, Rouge leaned against a marble pillar, arms folded, looking uncharacteristically tense. She pulled a sleek black card from her glove and flicked it to Sonic. "Ask for The Tunneler."

Amy caught it before Sonic could react. The front was blank except for a single embossed symbol: a rat's silhouette.

"Wait," Tails muttered. "You mean those guys?"

Rouge sighed, adjusting her sunglasses. "If anyone knows the underground of Soleanna, it's them. But don't say I didn't warn you."

She turned, walking away without another word.

Sonic arched a brow. "What's got her rattled?"

Amy pocketed the card. "Only one way to find out."

Act 2: The Tunneler

The trio found themselves in the Undermarket, a series of dimly lit tunnels beneath Soleanna's main district. The air was thick with the scent of damp stone and the faint aroma of street food. Vendors lined the walls, selling everything from black-market gadgets to rare gemstones.

At the far end, past a flickering neon sign, sat a low-lit tavern. The sign above the door read: THE BURROW.

Sonic pushed the door open.

Inside, Rat Mobians filled the space—some counting stacks of cash, others swapping blueprints, a few sharpening switchblades in the corner. The room fell silent as they entered.

At the center of it all sat The Don.

An elderly rat Mobian, dressed in a crisp pinstripe suit, calmly sipped from a porcelain teacup. His fur was silvered with age, but his eyes—sharp, calculating—never wavered.

Beside him stood his consigliere, a younger rat with a scar across his snout, who tapped his claws rhythmically against the table.

Sonic strolled forward, resting his hands on the Don's table. "So, you're the Tunneler, huh?"

The Don didn't react. Instead, the consigliere spoke. "The Don doesn't waste time with introductions. You want information, you pay."

Sonic raised an eyebrow, glancing at Tails. The fox sighed, pulling a pouch of gold Soleanna Rings from his belt and placing them on the table.

The Don sipped his tea, then slowly nodded.

"Speak," Sonic urged.

The Don remained silent.

Instead, the consigliere chuckled. "That's not enough."

Amy scowled. "Excuse me?"

The consigliere gestured around. "See, we know things. We know where Eggman moves, where Soleanna's defenses are weakest… where Restoration HQ keeps its most valuable assets."

Amy's grip tightened on her hammer. "Are you threatening us?"

The consigliere smirked. "No, darling. Just reminding you who you're dealing with."

Tails gritted his teeth, reaching into his toolkit. More gold Rings clattered onto the table.

The Don finally smiled.

He snapped his fingers.

A younger rat stepped forward, pulling out a detailed blueprint of Soleanna.

What followed was an astonishingly thorough rundown.

Every hidden alley. Every defensible rooftop. Every tunnel leading in and out of the city.

By the time they were finished, even Sonic looked impressed.

"Geez," he muttered. "You guys really do know everything."

Amy crossed her arms. "Would've been nice if you were upfront about it."

The Don chuckled softly, finally speaking. "Where's the fun in that?"

As the trio turned to leave, the Don called out one last remark.

"Tell Rouge she owes me a visit."

Sonic stopped in his tracks.

Amy glanced over her shoulder. "Why?"

The Don exhaled slowly, taking another sip of tea.

"She's my number one client."

The door shut behind them.

Epilogue: Above Ground

Back on the streets of Soleanna, Sonic looked at the map in his hands, then at Rouge's disappearing figure in the distance.

"Okay," he said. "Now I'm curious."

Tails sighed. "Let's just focus on Eggman first."

Amy nodded, but her mind was elsewhere.

Rouge had secrets.

And this one?

This one felt big.
