Hello everyone, this is Ray here and I'm going to present you a story that uses Ash and my OCs as the characters of the story, but the story is based on the games instead of the anime. Everything is game plot and I hope you like it.
Chapter 1 Into the Game
If there's one thing I've always believed, it's that being a Pokémon Trainer is the greatest adventure in the world.
But… what if that adventure could go beyond reality itself?
Professor Oak always said that Pokémon training was constantly evolving, but I never expected him to mean it literally.
It all started when he introduced me to Ray, a scientist from Hoenn with a passion for technology. Together, they had created something revolutionary:
Pokémon World Online.
Not just a game. Not just some VR simulator.
A fully immersive Pokémon experience where trainers could live their journey like never before. Every battle, every route, every town—it was all built from real-world data, including my own adventures.
And they needed test players.
Who better than me?
"Ash, you've traveled through so many regions," Professor Oak said, eyes gleaming with excitement. "With your experience, you'll know exactly what makes a Pokémon journey feel real. That's why we need you."
Me? A beta tester for the most advanced Pokémon game ever?
How could I say no?
I wasn't alone, either. 2,000 trainers from all over the world were chosen—some famous, others just lucky. Each of us would step into this world and help shape what could become the future of Pokémon training.
The day finally came. I slipped on the sleek, high-tech visor, my heart pounding with anticipation.
System activated.
The world around me vanished into darkness.
Then—
Light exploded before my eyes.
I wasn't just playing a game.
I was inside it.
A bright light filled my vision.
Then—
Professor Oak appeared.
"Hello, there! Glad to meet you! Welcome to the world of Pokémon!"
Wait. Hold on.
I knew those words.
"My name is Oak. People affectionately refer to me as the Pokémon Professor."
Was this… the intro sequence?
Before I could even process what was happening, Oak continued, his voice just as familiar as I remembered from my childhood.
"This world… is inhabited far and wide by creatures called Pokémon! For some people, Pokémon are pets. Others use them for battling. As for myself… I study Pokémon as a profession."
Okay, yeah. This was definitely the classic opening. The one every new trainer saw at the start of their journey. But something felt different. More… real.
Then, Oak turned directly to me.
"But first, tell me a little about yourself."
A floating character selection screen appeared in front of me.
Are you a boy? Or are you a girl?
…I blinked. Was this seriously happening?
Let's begin with your name. What is it?
I stared at the input box.
My name?
I hesitated for a moment. Should I just go with "Ash" like always? Or should I mess around with it? Maybe something cool like "Red" or "Champion"—
No. What was I thinking?
With a grin, I confidently typed in:
A-S-H
Right. No need to overthink it. I'm always Ash Ketchum.
"Right… So your name is Ash."
Oak nodded approvingly before moving on to the next part.
"This is my grandson. He's been your rival since you both were babies."
The screen changed, now showing a second input field.
…Erm, what was his name now?
I nearly laughed. So even in this ultra-advanced VR game, Oak still couldn't remember his own grandson's name?
The options flashed before me:
Gary, Blue, John, Enter a custom name
I considered my choices. Gary was the obvious pick. He'd been my rival in real life, after all.
"That's right! I remember now! His name is Gary!"
Oak smiled and turned to me again.
"Ash! Your own very Pokémon legend is about to unfold! A world of dreams and adventures with Pokémon awaits! Let's go!"
Suddenly—
The screen shattered like glass, and my body dropped.
A rush of wind hit me as I plummeted straight into the world of Pokémon.
I opened my eyes.
The feeling of solid ground beneath me, the warmth of the morning sun streaming through the window—everything felt too real for a game.
Slowly, I pushed myself up and looked around.
My bedroom.
The same small room I had always known. My Poké Ball-patterned clock ticked quietly on the wall. My desk, my TV, even the old SNES console I barely used anymore—everything was exactly how I remembered it.
But was it really my room?
I walked over to the window and pulled back the curtains.
Pallet Town stretched before me.
The rooftops of houses, the dirt paths winding through town, the tall grass swaying in the breeze—it was all there. I could even see Professor Oak's Lab in the distance, standing like a familiar landmark.
A gust of wind rustled through the trees, carrying the scent of fresh grass and morning dew.
I placed a hand against the glass.
This was beyond anything I had imagined.
And my adventure was just beginning.
I took a deep breath and turned away from the window. Time to head downstairs.
As I descended the wooden staircase, a familiar voice greeted me.
"Good morning, Ash! Are you ready for your adventure?"
I stopped at the bottom of the stairs.
My mom stood in the kitchen, smiling warmly as she prepared breakfast—just like she always did. The scent of freshly cooked food filled the air.
But something felt… off.
The way she moved, the way she spoke—it wasn't natural.
It was like she was reading from a script.
An NPC.
I waved a hand, trying to shake off the weird feeling—
And suddenly, a glowing blue menu appeared in front of me.
[Main Menu]
▶ Inventory
▶ Pokémon Box
▶ Trainer Stats
▶ Settings
I hesitated, then tapped Settings out of curiosity.
Two options appeared:
Red Version
Green Version
I frowned. What was this for?
I pressed Red Version.
Nothing changed.
I tapped Green Version next.
Still nothing.
What was the point of this?
Before I could figure it out, my mom spoke again.
"Professor Oak was looking for you, dear! You should head over to his lab."
Her words snapped me back to reality—or whatever this was.
Right. No time to get distracted.
I closed the menu, took a deep breath, and stepped outside.
Pallet Town awaited.
Stepping outside, the sun felt warm against my skin. A gentle breeze rustled the trees, carrying the familiar scent of fresh-cut grass and the nearby river.
My heart pounded with excitement.
Even if this was a game, it was still an adventure!
Without hesitation, I dashed toward the tall grass—
Big mistake.
"Hey! Wait! Don't go out!"
A sharp voice rang out behind me.
I skidded to a stop, just as a figure rushed toward me.
"It's unsafe! Wild Pokémon live in tall grass!"
The familiar white lab coat, gray hair, and kind but firm expression—I knew exactly who it was before he even finished his sentence.
Professor Oak.
"You need your own Pokémon for protection. I know! Here, come with me!"
I grinned.
Some things never changed.
The lab doors slid open with a soft whoosh, revealing rows of bookshelves, research equipment, and high-tech computers. The place smelled like old parchment and metal, a mix of tradition and innovation.
And standing right in the middle, arms crossed and tapping his foot impatiently, was—
"Gramps! I'm fed up with waiting!"
I immediately recognized that voice.
Gary Oak. My childhood rival, grandson of Professor Oak, and self-proclaimed Pokémon genius. He was just as arrogant as ever, wearing that smug grin like he already owned the place.
Professor Oak blinked in realization. "Gary? Let me think… Oh, that's right, I told you to come! Just wait!"
Typical. Even in a high-tech VR world, the Professor's memory was still hit-or-miss.
Then, Oak turned to me.
"Here, Ash! There are three Pokémon here."
I followed his gaze to the table in the center of the lab.
Sitting neatly on a velvet-covered surface were three Poké Balls.
"Haha! The Pokémon are held inside these Poké Balls," Oak continued, chuckling. "When I was young, I was a serious Pokémon Trainer. But now, in my old age, I have only these three left. You can have one. Go on, choose!"
Before I could even step forward—
"Hey! Gramps! No fair! What about me?"
I barely resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
"Be patient, Gary," Oak sighed. "You can have one too!"
Gary huffed, but I tuned him out. My focus was on the three Poké Balls in front of me.
For the first time in my life, I actually got to choose a starter Pokémon.
Back when I first became a Trainer, I never had this choice. By the time I arrived, all the starters were gone, and Professor Oak had to give me Pikachu instead.
But this time?
I wasn't late.
I wasn't the last pick.
I reached out, my hand hovering over the Poké Balls. Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander.
I had seen countless trainers start their journeys with these Pokémon, but I had never actually held one myself.
This was my chance.
My fingers tightened around the rightmost Poké Ball. The moment I touched it, a soft glow pulsed through the capsule.
Charmander.
I felt a rush—not of nostalgia, but of excitement. This was new. This was my first real choice.
I took a deep breath, lifting the Poké Ball up to eye level.
This time, I was starting my journey properly.
As soon as I stepped back from the table, Poké Ball in hand, Gary smirked and reached for his choice.
"I'll take this one, then!"
He grabbed the middle Poké Ball, holding it up like he had just won a trophy.
Squirtle.
I wasn't surprised. If I had picked Bulbasaur, he probably would've gone for Charmander. He always wanted the advantage.
With a flick of his wrist, he pocketed the Poké Ball and turned to me.
"Wait, Ash!" Gary called out just as I was heading toward the exit. "Let's check out our Pokémon! Come on, I'll take you on!"
I barely had time to react before a glowing battle interface materialized in front of me.
[Trainer Battle Start!]
A rush of excitement shot through me as I grabbed Charmander's Poké Ball. So this is how battles work in here, huh?
I took a deep breath and threw my Poké Ball forward.
"Charmander! Let's do this!"
A burst of white light flashed as my very first Pokémon materialized before me. Charmander shook itself off, its tail flame flickering brightly.
Gary grinned. "Go! Squirtle!"
Squirtle landed with a soft thud, flashing its tiny fangs with determination.
The battle had officially begun.
Before I could even call out a move, Professor Oak sighed dramatically from the sidelines.
"Oh, for Pete's sake… So pushy, as always."
He turned to me.
"Ash, you've never had a Pokémon battle before, have you?"
I blinked. That… wasn't exactly true. But if this game treated me like a new Trainer, I had no choice but to go along with it.
Oak continued, gesturing toward our Pokémon.
"A Pokémon battle is when Trainers pit their Pokémon against each other. The Trainer that makes the opponent's Pokémon faint by lowering their HP to 0, wins. But rather than explaining everything, you'll learn best from experience. Try battling and see for yourself."
A blue menu appeared in front of me, displaying my options:
▶ Fight
▶ Bag
▶ Pokémon
▶ Run
I instinctively reached for Fight, and a new menu popped up.
▶ Scratch
▶ Growl
Alright. Let's see what this game can do.
"Charmander, use Scratch!"
Charmander lunged forward, slashing at Squirtle with its claws. The attack connected, and a bright -4 appeared above Squirtle's head before fading.
"Inflicting damage on the foe is the key to any battle," Oak commented.
Gary smirked. "Not bad, but let's see how you handle this! Squirtle, Tackle!"
Squirtle charged forward and slammed into Charmander, knocking it back slightly.
A glowing -5 hovered over Charmander before disappearing.
So Gary had the upper hand. Figures.
I glanced at my menu. Growl wouldn't deal damage, but…
"Charmander, use Growl!"
Charmander let out a small snarl, and Squirtle flinched slightly. Above its head, a tiny blue ⬇ Attack icon appeared.
"Lowering the foe's stats will put you at an advantage," Oak explained.
Gary scoffed. "Tch, so you're gonna play like that? Fine! Squirtle, Tackle again!"
Another hit landed, but this time, it did less damage.
I grinned. Alright. So stat drops really work here.
As the battle went on, I tapped Pokémon out of curiosity. A new party menu appeared, showing Charmander's HP bar, stats, and moves.
"It's important to get to know your Pokémon thoroughly," Oak chimed in. "This is a list of your Pokémon, Ash. You can check their moves, stats, or use items here."
Made sense. But right now, I just needed to win.
After a few more hits, Charmander's HP dropped into the red. My instincts kicked in—I reached for Bag and selected a Potion.
A glowing light surrounded Charmander as +20 HP appeared above it.
"Keep your eyes on your Pokémon's HP," Oak advised. "It will faint if it drops to 0."
Gary groaned. "Ugh, using Potions already? Seriously?"
I smirked. "Hey, you said it yourself—this is a battle."
Out of curiosity, I tapped Run—just to see what would happen.
"No! There's no running away from a Trainer Pokémon battle!"
I chuckled. Worth a shot.
It all came down to one final attack.
Charmander's final Scratch landed, and Squirtle let out a weak cry before collapsing onto the floor.
[Squirtle Fainted!]
Gary's eyes widened as his Pokémon disappeared back into its Poké Ball.
"WHAT?! Unbelievable! I picked the wrong Pokémon!"
I smirked. "Or maybe I just outplayed you."
Professor Oak chuckled. "Hm! Excellent! If you win, you earn prize money, and your Pokémon will grow! Battle other Trainers and make your Pokémon strong!"
A familiar jingle played, and a glowing notification appeared in front of me:
+300 Pokédollars
Alright. First battle? Won.
Gary scoffed, still clearly annoyed.
"Okay! I'll make my Pokémon battle to toughen it up!"** He shot me a glare before turning toward the exit. "Ash! Gramps! Smell ya later!"**
And just like that, he stormed out of the lab.
I watched him go, shaking my head with a grin. Some things never change.
I looked down at Charmander, who was still standing tall, tail flame flickering with pride.
This was just the beginning.
And I couldn't wait to see what was next.
I stepped out of the lab, the warm sun shining down on Pallet Town. The fresh scent of the open road filled my lungs as I made my way toward Route 1—the first real step of any Trainer's journey.
Excitement bubbled inside me. A whole new adventure was waiting.
The moment I took my first step into the tall grass, something rustled nearby.
Then—
"Coo!"
A Pidgey popped out, its tiny wings flapping as it landed in front of me.
A battle interface materialized before my eyes.
[Wild Pidgey appeared!]
Alright! First wild battle!
I grabbed Charmander's Poké Ball and threw it forward. "Let's go, Charmander!"
The small Fire-type landed gracefully, tail flame flickering.
I quickly tapped Fight and selected Scratch.
Charmander lunged, claws flashing. The attack connected!
Pidgey let out a cry of pain before collapsing.
[Pidgey Defeated!]
A bright notification appeared in front of me.
+45 EXP
I grinned. If this was what battling felt like in this game, I could get used to it.
I continued moving through the route, the rustling grass making it clear that I wasn't alone.
Another Pidgey appeared. Then a Rattata.
Charmander handled them with ease, its Scratch attack making quick work of the weaker wild Pokémon.
But there was one problem.
Every time a Pokémon fainted, I instinctively reached for my bag—only to remember that I didn't have any Poké Balls.
No matter how many Pokémon I found, I couldn't catch anything yet.
I sighed, shaking my head. Guess I'd have to visit a Poké Mart before my team could grow.
Still, that didn't mean I couldn't train.
With a determined smile, I stepped forward. More battles meant more strength.
And I was just getting started.
As I walked past the Route 1 signpost, a man in a blue apron waved me down.
"Hey there, Trainer! I work at the Viridian City Poké Mart. Here, take this—it's a free sample!"
He handed me a Potion.
"Use it when your Pokémon needs healing!"
Nice! Free stuff!
After battling my way through Route 1, I finally arrived at Viridian City.
A small, nature-filled town, surrounded by lush green trees year-round. It felt peaceful yet alive, like a true gateway to adventure.
To the south, the path led back to Pallet Town.
To the north, Route 2 awaited, leading toward the mysterious Viridian Forest.
And to the west, Route 22 stretched out—a road I'd be taking later.
For now, I had two main stops:
The first building I saw was the Pokémon Center, its red roof standing out against the greenery.
Stepping inside, a familiar healing machine hummed softly in the background. Nurse Joy, with her usual warm smile, greeted me.
"Welcome to the Pokémon Center! We restore your Pokémon to full health."
I handed over Charmander's Poké Ball. Within seconds, it was fully healed and ready for battle.
Pokémon Centers were more than just healing stations. They had PCs where Trainers could store extra Pokémon and items—a necessity since a team was limited to six Pokémon at a time.
I took a deep breath, letting the reality sink in.
This wasn't just a game.
This was my journey.
To the northeast of the Pokémon Center stood the Poké Mart, its blue sign easy to spot.
Finally! Time to stock up on Poké Balls.
I stepped inside, ready to spend my hard-earned Pokédollars—
Only for the shopkeeper to call me over before I could even browse.
"Hey, aren't you from Pallet Town?"
I blinked. "Uh… yeah?"
The man grinned. "Perfect timing! Professor Oak ordered something, and it just arrived. Could you take this to him?"
Before I could protest, he shoved a small package into my hands.
[Obtained Oak's Parcel!]
I sighed. Guess I had no choice but to head back.
Before leaving, I took a quick detour to the Pokémon Academy, located in the center of town.
Inside, a blackboard detailed the five major status conditions that could affect Pokémon:
Poison Burn Paralysis Sleep Freeze
I already knew all this, but hey—it didn't hurt to refresh my knowledge.
With my business here done, I took a deep breath and turned south.
Next stop: Back to Pallet Town!
With Oak's Parcel in hand, I made my way back to Pallet Town. The return trip was much quicker, now that I wasn't stopping for battles. Soon enough, I found myself standing in front of Professor Oak's Lab once again.
Stepping inside, I approached Oak and held out the package.
His eyes lit up the moment he saw me.
"Oh, Ash! How is my old Pokémon?" Oak asked, glancing at Charmander's Poké Ball. "Well, it seems to be growing more attached to you. You must be talented as a Pokémon Trainer."
I couldn't help but grin. "Heh, you think so?"
Then, Oak's gaze fell on the package in my hands.
"What's that? You have something for me?"
I handed it over, and he carefully unwrapped the parcel. The moment he saw what was inside, his face brightened.
"Ah! It's the custom Poké Ball! I had it on order. Thank you!"
Before I could ask what was special about it, the doors swung open behind me.
"Gramps! I almost forgot! What did you call me for?"
I turned around just in time to see Gary saunter in, arms crossed, looking as impatient as ever.
Oak nodded, as if he had just remembered something important.
"Oh, right! I have a request for you two."
He walked over to the table, where two small, red devices sat side by side.
"On the desk there is my invention, the Pokédex!" he explained, picking them up. "It automatically records data on Pokémon you've seen or caught. It's a high-tech encyclopedia!"
He handed one to me, then one to Gary.
"Ash, Gary. Take these with you."
I turned the device over in my hands. A high-tech encyclopedia that could log Pokémon data?
Oak continued, his voice filled with excitement.
"You can't get detailed data on Pokémon by just seeing them. You must catch them to obtain complete data. So, here are some tools for catching wild Pokémon."
Reaching into his coat pocket, he pulled out five Poké Balls and handed them to each of us.
"When a wild Pokémon appears, it's fair game," he explained. "Just throw a Poké Ball at it and try to catch it! This won't always work, however. A healthy Pokémon can escape. You have to be lucky!"
I nodded, gripping the Poké Balls tightly. So this was how my journey truly began.
Then, Oak's tone softened slightly, a hint of nostalgia in his voice.
"To make a complete guide on all the Pokémon in the world… That was my dream!" He sighed. "But, I'm too old! I can't get the job done. So, I want you two to fulfill my dream for me. Get moving, you two. This is a great undertaking in Pokémon history!"
My heart pounded with excitement.
I had always dreamed of becoming a Pokémon Master, but this? This was something even bigger.
Then, Gary scoffed.
"Alright, Gramps! Leave it all to me!"
He turned to me with a smug grin.
"Ash, I hate to say it, but you won't be necessary for this."
I narrowed my eyes. "Oh yeah? We'll see about that."
But Gary wasn't done. His smirk widened.
"I know! I'll borrow a Town Map from my sis!" He chuckled. "I'll tell her not to lend you one, Ash! Hahaha! Don't bother coming around to my place after this!"
With that, he spun around and stormed out of the lab.
I shook my head. Typical Gary.
Oak chuckled. "Don't worry about him, Ash. Just focus on your journey."
I gave a firm nod. "Right."
With the Pokédex in hand and Poké Balls at my side, I was finally ready.
But before leaving town, I had one last stop to make.
Ignoring Gary's warning, I made my way to his house.
His older sister, Daisy, was sitting at the table, flipping through a book. She glanced up as I walked in.
"Heading out on your journey, Ash?" she asked with a smile.
I nodded. "Yep. Just got my Pokédex from the Professor."
She reached over to the table and picked up something.
"Here, take this. It'll help you find your way."
[Obtained the Town Map!]
I grinned. "Thanks, Daisy! You're way nicer than your brother."
She giggled. "He can be a bit much, huh?"
I pocketed the Town Map and took one last look around Pallet Town.
I had my Pokédex, my starter Pokémon, and my first Poké Balls.
Everything I needed was finally in place.
Here is the first chapter of the Ash's Cyber Story, and this is just the beginning of the game. I hope you like it and we're going to be diving into more in the next one.
