The next morning, the whole team was waiting outside the apartment. They were all loaded up with camping gear, ready to head out to the campsite they had booked as a team bonding trip.

They waited for Jay, but he was taking his time. He finally emerged from the apartment, looking haggard and exhausted. He had dark bags under his eyes and his face was pale.

Jay nodded, zipping up his leather jacket. "Yeah, Scarlett kept me up all night."

Scarlett looked up. "No, I didn't?"

Adam chuckled. "Kid, you're like three. You could sleep through a nuclear explosion."

Scarlett nodded, hugging her teddy. "Got it, dude!"

Hailey secured Scarlett onto her hip, ruffling her hair.

"Alright, is everyone ready to hit the road?" Voight called out, grabbing his keys.

The team nodded, loading their bags into the back of the SUVs.

Hours passed. The energy drink did its job, and soon Jay was feeling more like his usual self. He looked out the window, watching as the city gave way to the countryside.

"It's gonna be a long day," Jay said, rolling down his window to get some fresh air.

"Tell me about it," Hailey groaned. "I don't know how you guys talked me into this."

Scarlett piped up. "Got it, dude!"

Hailey rolled her eyes. "She's gonna be saying that all weekend, isn't she?"

"Yep," Kevin said, chuckling. "We'll be hearing it in our sleep later."

"We should make it there by lunchtime." Voight grunted.

Hailey and Jay both groaned, banging their heads against the seat.

Hailey went on her phone, opening up her app. "I only got two days till my period, and I wanna make a baby..."

Jay nearly choked on the sip of water he was drinking. "Jesus, Hailey... can you not say that in a truck full of people?"

"Yeah, please keep the baby talk out of the car. No one wants to hear that." Adam covered his ears.

"I didn't mean it like that, you pervs," Hailey said, rolling her eyes.

. "You want to make a baby, Mama?"

"No, sweetie. It's not like that. I mean, I want to make a baby eventually, just... not right now."

Scarlett looked at her father, who was closing his eyes. "Daddy? Mama wants a baby."

Jay opened his eyes, looking at Scarlett, then at Hailey. "No, baby. Mama wants a baby someday, not right now."

"But why? I want a baby sibling!"

Jay sat forward, grabbing his dad's shoulder. "Please, step on it!"

Voight chuckled, rolling his eyes. "We're already going the speed limit, Halstead."

"Yes, but we could go faster." Jay groaned, resting his head against the seat.

Hailey put a hand on his head, gently stroking his hair. "Okay, let's relax, baby. There's no need to rush. It's a three-hour drive, so plenty of time for this conversation."

Jay groaned, burying his face into the seat. "Three hours, stuck in a car full of people. Three... whole... hours."

Hailey chuckled, continuing to stroke his hair. "Yeah, and all those people wanna hear you whine for the entire drive. I'm sure everyone is looking forward to that."

Jay raised his head, peeking up at her with one eye open. "I'm just looking forward to getting you all to myself later," he whispered, his voice low enough that the team wouldn't hear.

Hailey chuckled, trying not to laugh out loud. "You're gonna have to wait patiently, cowboy. We've got a long drive ahead of us."

The team had settled in for the evening, all of them spread out in the common area. They had agreed to watch a movie and were all focused on the film.

Hailey and Jay had claimed the couch, and Jay had his head resting in her lap, his eyes closed, fast asleep. Hailey had her eyes on the movie but her hands were gently running through his hair, like she often did.

Voight glanced over at them and chuckled quietly. "Out like a light."

Adam nodded, keeping his voice low so as not to wake Jay. "He's a goner."

Voight spoke up, guiding back the attention. "Upton, when's your parents flying in? We need to get this wedding sorted!"

Hailey nodded. "Yup. We've already booked the DJ, but my parents have particular tastes in music, so they want to look at the playlist. And the cake? That's gonna be a whole thing. My mom has a bunch of ideas, and she said she'd bring a whole Pinterest board.

Scarlett, who was settled on Hailey's other side, spoke up in a quiet voice. "When are Grammie and Pops coming to town?"

Hailey smiled, pulling one of her hands away from Jay's hair to run it through Scarlett's. "Tomorrow, sweetheart. They'll be here first thing in the morning."

Jay groaned, frustrated. "You're parents... They do not like me..."

Hailey ran her hand through his hair again, soothing him. "They like you, it's just... they're protective."

"Yeah, they're overprotective," Jay muttered. "They still have this image of the young idiot detective I used to be."

"They're just happy that you've grown up a lot in the past few years," Hailey reassured him. "And they're happy that we finally got engaged."

Jay chuckled, opening one eye to look up at her. "It took me long enough to propose, huh?"
