Haruhi held onto Hikaru's hand tightly as they ran into the hospital. She had rushed to put on a pair of shoes that she didn't notice from how dark it was, that she had put on two separate pairs, and she was stumbling from the slight size difference. Once they reached the desk, they told them Kyoya's name, and the nurse immediately took them to the private room where Kyoya was staying.
Once they opened the door, they saw that Renge and the other former club members were already there. Toru was sitting on a chair in the room as well, his wounds bandaged but other than that he was in good health. Haruhi's eyes immediately caught Tamaki's and his eyes seemed to travel to her hand that was grasping Hikaru's. Out of instinct, she let go of his hand and put it to her side, but she could tell that both Hikaru and Tamaki seemed to notice. She refused to look back at Tamaki because this wasn't about him, but she knew he was looking at her with pain in his eyes. While Hikaru just ignored it, not wanting to make a scene.
Haruhi looked at Kyoya in his hospital bed and saw that he was already awake. He was propped up in his bed with his left arm in a cast. Since he didn't have his glasses on, he squinted at the trio to see who was there. He must've just woken up from his glasses being off and his hair being a mess.
"Oh my god Kyoya." Haruhi gasped and she and the twins went over to his bedside. "How could this have happened? You had your police force…"
She noticed Kyoya looked down at the mention of his police force and saw his eyes begin to grow wet with what she assumed were tears. In all her years of knowing him, she had never seen Kyoya like this. Something tragic must've happened.
"It was a trap." Kyoya was able to choke out. His voice hoarse from just waking up.
"A trap? How would he be able to do that with such a short amount of time. He was at the party."
"He planted Toru to distract us. He had kidnapped him to lure us and that's when…" Kyoya let out a small cough, but a few tears fell down his cheeks. That's when Haruhi noticed that none of Kyoya's bodyguards were around, and it clicked for her.
"Oh my god…"
"What?" Hikaru and Karou asked.
"Kyoya…he didn't…your guards…"
Kyoya nodded and wiped his eyes. He let out a sigh, to try and stop the tears from falling. "He lured my whole police force and trapped us. Toru and I were only able to get out because of them. But we had no time to save any of them." He blankly stared at his broken arm. "I feel like I failed them as a boss."
"You didn't fail them Ootori." Toru tried to reassure him. "Out of all the rich snobs that we grew up with, you treated your private security like actual people and not just as the 'help'. They were family to you and they knew that. They cared about you so much that they died for you. I don't consider that a failure."
Kyoya's jaw clenched as he listened to Toru and he took a deep breath, but a few more tears escaped his eyes. He looked up for a bit, to try and dry his eyes before looking back over to Toru.
"You have to leave." Kyoya said in a brittle voice."
Toru looked shocked, but hurt. "What?"
"The killer, it is most likely that you'll be his next target after you shot him."
"Wait, Toru shot the killer?" The twins were surprised as if they couldn't comprehend that he would actually be able to do something like that. "Really?"
Haruhi remembered when she first joined the Host Club, the twins and Kyoya had insulted Toru for being weak and boring, so hearing that he shot the killer must've been a huge surprise. It certainly was for her.
"Take Kanako with you as well. If he can't find you, he'll go after her just to torture you."
"You really think he would do that?" After Toru asked that, he knew it was a dumb question. He let out a stressed sigh. "I guess I can take her to my family's cottage in England until the killer is finally caught. I can pack some things and leave tomorrow night."
"Use my family's private plane. My family will provide some security as well. I want you to get there as safe as possible. However, from how…low staff we are at the moment, you'll have to make your way to the airport on your own."
"That's quite all right Ootori, I'll find a way."
Kyoya just gave Toru a nod and looked back over towards his friends. His eyelids were starting to droop from how tired the medicine was making him, but he fought to stay awake.
"How long did they say you had to be in the hospital?" Tamaki asked.
"My father wants them to monitor me for at least a few days. He also thinks I'll be safe here since it's a hospital and doesn't think the killer will come to a heavily populated area. But I should be home no later than the end of this week."
"That's good…I'm…we're glad that you're ok Kyoya."
Kyoya smiled tiredly at him. "We did get something though. Something that might help us identify the killer."
"Like what?" Honey asked. "Were you able to get a picture of him or something?"
Kyoya shook his head. "Not a picture, but while the killer and I were fighting, Toru was able to shoot the knife out of the killer's hand."
"Really, you got the knife?!" The twins gawked. Everyone in the room sat up straight at what Kyoya had said.
Kyoya nodded, a smirk on his face. "Yes, the police are looking for fingerprints to see if they can find a match on anyone. However, there is a chance nothing will come up since the killer wore gloves."
Kaoru made a hum sound and leaned back in his chair. "Hopefully he made a mistake and touched it with his bare hands or something. He couldn't have worn gloves the entire time while handling the knife."
"That's true, but he could've wiped away his fingerprints after each use," Mori informed. "Or, even worse, planted another person's prints onto it. We still have to be careful on who prints they are if any show up."
"My police force is aware of that situation and will look closely into it." Kyoya's eyes began to droop more and his words were starting to grow slow. The nurse in the room began checking his vitals.
"I think it's time for Mr. Ootori to get some rest." She informed the group as she wrote down on her clipboard. "You can visit him during visiting hours later today."
The groups said their goodbyes to Kyoya before all leaving to let him sleep. Toru apologized to them, saying he needed to get home to Kanako to prepare for them leaving but would keep them all updated once he was safe in England. Once Toru left, Mori had suggested that the group start doing self-defense training again. They have not been doing as many classes as he would've liked since their class schedules conflicted, as well as Haruhi and Tamaki's break up. But from how aggressive the killer's attacks are getting, they will just have to ignore each other's presence for the time being. Haruhi didn't really want to be in the same room as Tamaki, but agreed to the training. Mori was right, their safety was far more important than her wanting to avoid Tamaki. She hated him, but didn't want him to die. Since everyone's schedule was different, Mori said that he'll schedule two separate groups within the week, and he looked over at Haruhi, and she knew he was actually doing this for her, not to be around Tamaki, and she was grateful for that. However, what he said next truly terrified her.
"Are you saying…the killer is someone connected to us..?"
Mori gave her a nod.
"From what Kyou-Chan had told us, the killer knew information that people outside our circle wouldn't have known."
"That's correct, Kyoya told Mitsukuni and me about how the killer knew about his character in the Host club. Which wouldn't be alarming since we were well known throughout high school. However, he also knew about the self-defense classes."
"Has anyone told anyone outside our circle about the classes?" Tamaki asked.
"The only person I told was Reiko-chan." Honey answered.
"I told Satoshi, who most likely told Yasuchika. I wanted him to be prepared just in case something happened," Mori said.
"I told Mei and Kasanoda, only because they are close to me. Along with my dad and the landlady."
"We told our parents through a voicemail." The twins replied a little melancholy. "But we doubt they listened to it."
"I told my parents and Shima. I didn't want to worry my grandmother with her old age."
"Well, I doubt it's Shima." Hikaru huffed out. Hearing all the names didn't help their case since either they were too old, or too physically weak to do anything. "The only people who I can think of on the list who could hurt us would be Satoshi and Chika, but their hearts are too pure to kill someone."
"And Kasanoda wouldn't hurt a fly…right?" Kaoru added.
"I want to say no, but at this point I'm not crossing anyone off my list. Even my own family." It pained Mori to say this, but he knew he had to think logically, and if he crossed out people because they were close to him, he could be attacked by surprise when his guard is down. "Classes will start on Monday. I'll text you guys which group you are in from how our class schedules line up. No excuses on not attending unless there is no way for you to get out of your prior commitment. We can't risk one of us getting killed."
The group agreed and gave Mori their class schedules for him to make a training schedule once he got home. As the group was saying their goodbyes, Haruhi heard Tamaki quietly call out her name as she walked with the twins down the hall. Hikaru whispered to her to just ignore him, and put a hand on her back in a comforting way. She smiled at him, because being with him, she didn't want to look back at Tamaki anymore.
…
The next night came upon him too quickly. He thought that almost a full two days would be enough time to get everything packed up for their big move to England, but he had just barely gotten everything shipped off a few minutes before leaving for the airport.
Once he came home from the hospital early yesterday morning, Kanako ran to him crying, grateful that he was alive. He had to cut their small reunion short by telling her that they had to move to England for their safety, and to his surprise she was willing to go. School wasn't an issue since they could take online classes at Ouran, but also their family could easily visit them. She just wanted to make sure Toru was safe. He had already told her everything about the attack while at the hospital, and she was astonished by how brave he was to stand up against the killer to save Kyoya, and she gave him his reward for being so brave that night, but that is besides the point.
Toru finished shipping off the last of their items before heading back to Kanako, who was waiting outside. She smiled at him as he approached her and grabbed ahold of his hand.
"Was that the last of everything, sweetheart?"
Toru nodded. "Yes, most of our things should arrive a few days after we get to the cottage since everything was last minute, but we should be fine. The cottage has most of the stuff we need to live comfortably."
"That's great, I just hope that all my good pillows get there soon. I wake up with my back killing me without them."
"I made sure those will arrive once we get there, honey." He smiled at her.
"My hero." She gave him a quick peck before he pulled out his phone.
He dialed his driver and listened to the ringing go on and on until it hit voicemail.
"That's strange."
"What is it?"
"My driver isn't picking up." He looked at his phone, checking the signal. "He told me he had to get gas, but he should've been back by now. Hopefully everything with the car is alright."
Toru tried calling again, but this time after the second ring, the phone went to voicemail again.
"The hell?"
"Is he still not picking u-"
Kanako was then cut off by Toru's phone loudly ringing and he smiled relieved when he saw it was the driver. He answered his phone and placed it to his ear.
"Hey Minato, where are you? Did you get gas for the car?"
"Hello Toru." The smile immediately dropped from Toru's face and he felt his body grow cold as the all too familiar sinister voice hit his ears. No, it couldn't be. He had just changed his number to a UK one. How the fick did he get this number? "Did you miss me?"
Kanako noticed her fiancé's expression and grew worried. "Is everything alright darling? It looks like you just saw a ghost?"
"How the fuck did you get this number?" Toru ignored her question.
"Wouldn't you like to know." Toru noticed a hooded figure turn the corner and began walking towards them, a phone to their ear. He grabbed Kanako and held her behind him as the person came closer. "Toru, you should really be thanking me. I made it seem like you were this huge hero and even got you lucky last night."
Toru continued to watch the person walk up to them, however, as they made eye contact he realized it was just a random stranger on the phone and walked by them. Toru then began scanning the area around him for anything suspicious.
"What the fuck do you want?"
"You know, I was going to let you go last night. I was just going to use you to lure Kyoya into that bunker but you just had to ruin everything. You even shot me, and I didn't like that."
"And I'll do it again if I see your face around me or the people I care about, and this time I'll aim for the head."
"Hmm, such strong words from a little welp like yourself. I'm going to show that fiancé of yours who you really are, a little fucking cry baby bitch who barely has a spine to support his scrawny ass. I'm going to punish you."
"Says the guy I was almost able to take down last night. You were the one who retreated with his tail between his legs."
"Don't be cute! You're going to pay for what you fucking did." The killer hissed over the phone. "And I'm not going to stop until I butcher you! You and everyone else that tries to get in my fucking way! You and Kanako better watch your backs."
"You better watch yours! Now fuck off!"
Toru hung up the phone and got a tight grip on Kanako's wrist.
"Baby, you're scaring me. Was that the-"
Suddenly, Toru heard Kanako scream and turned to see that the killer had rushed up behind her and had her in a choke hold. A new hunting knife in his hand, ready to stab her.
"No!" Toru screamed.
Luckily, since the killer had a wide opening, Kanako was able to elbow him in the gut and get away before Toru punched him in the face. Causing him to fall into a row of parked bikes.
Toru grabbed his fiancé's hand again. "Come on, let's go!"
They quickly rushed down the street, not looking back at the killer, but knew that he was chasing them from the sound of his heavy footfall behind them. Kanako yelled for help as they ran, trying to grab anyone's attention but there was no one around. They quickly turned the corner, where there was a convenience store with a decent amount of people in it. People that can protect them while they wait for the cops. Just like Kyoya said, the killer wouldn't be in a populated area because he knew he'd have a high chance of being caught.
Toru quickly led them into the store and ran to the store clerk, pushing past the people in line.
"Please, please help us." Kanako cried. "Call the police!"
"Excuse me! There's a fucking line!" A customer in line griped.
"Please, they're trying to kill us!" Toru and Kanako were talking over each other, so the clerk was having a hard time trying to understand them.
The chimes of the door opening caught the attention of everyone, and Toru felt his stomach drop when he saw the killer walk in. He actually came into a populated area. He wasn't supposed to fucking do that! He quickly grabbed Kanako and backed away as the hardass customer didn't move as the killer came towards them.
"Do we have a problem here, guy?" The customer confronted the killer.
The killer just looked at him, tilted his head as if he was silently asking if the guy really had said that to him before quickly stabbing him in the stomach a few times and the chest before throwing him to the side like a dead animal. Another customer grabbed the killer's shoulder to try and stop him, but the killer retaliated by stabbing the man in the neck before pushing him away. The rest of the customers rushed out of the store and the killer began slowly making his way towards the couple, backing them into a corner. Then there was the sound of a rifle cocking accompanied with,
"Hey!"
The killer quickly looked behind him and immediately saw the rifle and jumped out of the way just at the right time as the clerk shot at him. Chip bags and drinks exploded from the high intensity, and Toru and Kanako ducked so they wouldn't be hit by anything. The clerk came out from behind the counter and looked at where the killer had jumped to, but he wasn't there. He was fast and knew the clerk knew he could pop out at any second. But he needed to get the couple out and to safety.
"Go out the back!" He commanded them.
"Thank you!" Kanako cried and they quickly rushed to the back door as the clerk kept an eye out for the killer. However, once they arrived at the door it was locked. Just their fucking luck!
"The keys! Give us your keys!" Toru begged.
The clerk nodded and reached to his belt loop where he kept the keys and tried to get them off but they were stuck. He looked up at the security mirror and grew horrified as he saw the killer starting to walk towards him from behind.
"Look out!"
"Watch out!" The couple warned him.
The clerk got a firm hold on his gun again and turned to aim it at the killer, however, before he could fully turn, the killer got ahold of the gun and tried to yank it out of his grip. When that didn't work, he used his knife and stabbed the clerk in the shoulder, causing him to scream and let go of the rifle before falling to the ground. Kanako gasped loudly and Toru quickly led her away from them to hide, knowing what was going to happen next and didn't want her to see it.
The killer walked up to the clerk and stared at him for a few seconds before pointing the rifle at him. The clerk raised their hand to try to de-escalate the situation, but it was futile.
"Wait, wait, wait! No, please!"
Toru flinched as the loud sound of the gunshot boomed through the store and Kanako had to cover her mouth to keep the loud sobs from escaping her mouth. They heard the sound of the rifle cocking again and they remained silent, unmoving from behind the shelf as they heard the heavy boots of the killer taking slow steps around the store. Searching…no...hunting for them. The only sound in the store was the soft classical music playing from the speakers ahead and the crunching of the open snacks the killer boots were stepping on spread throughout the floor.
"Just come out, Toru. If you give up, I might let your sweet fiancé go without a scratch."
Toru knew that was fucking lie. He was planning on killing both of them that night. For revenge, and he knew he would kill Kanako first just to spite him, and he wasn't going to allow that to happen.
"I'm getting tired of waiting!" The killer shot at the shelf just above them and they covered their heads as the broken glass and metal hit them.
"Not there? How about over here?" He shot at a shelf from across the room. "Or here." Then at one in the center.
The killer grumbled as Toru or Kanako hadn't revealed themselves yet and began making his rounds around the shelves. Toru grabbed Kanako and quickly got her to the end cap of the shelf and had their backs against it so they were hidden as the killer turned on the aisle they had been on. He slowly began making his way down the aisle, getting closer to them.
"How about we play a game? Just like when we were kids. How about Marco Polo? I think that'll be a fun game to play. What do you guys think? The killer said as he grew closer to them. "I'll go first. Marco."
Toru noticed a crushed can of beer next to him and an idea popped into his head. They needed a distraction to draw the killer away from this aisle and slowly, but surely they could make it to the door if they were silent enough. Kanako had a death grip on Toru's arm and watched him as he slowly and carefully picked up the beer can with light fingers, to make sure the metal wouldn't crackle from his touch, and quickly tossed it to the other end of the store. The killer's footsteps paused and he heard him make a hum sound before back tracking and making his way towards the sound. Toru motioned with his head at Kanako to move and she listened. Quietly going on all fours and slowly making her way down the aisle, trying not to have the glass crunch from underneath her. Toru right beside her.
"Marco…" The killer said again. His footsteps were coming closer to them on the other side of the aisle.
They moved quietly down the aisle, however, paused when Kanako accidentally went over some glass, causing a loud crunch sound from underneath her knee. The killer stopped and Toru watched him from a crack in the shelf, praying he didn't hear it. The killer stood there for a bit before crouching down to the same level they were on. His profile right in the eyeline where Toru could see him.
"You're supposed to say Polo."
The killer then turned in a swift motion and pointed the barrel of the rifle at the crack where Toru was, but he acted fast and quickly pushed the shelf. Making it fall right on top of the killer and causing him to fall hard onto some of the crates near the counter.
Toru grabbed onto Kanako's hand again and began leading her out. "Come on! Let's go!"
They raced out of the store, the sounds of police sirens in the distance. They couldn't stay, the police were still too far away, and by the time they got there, the killer could kill them. They needed to get to somewhere safe before trying to get a car to the airport to fly to their safe house in England. He had to make their escape like a maze for the killer to lose track of them once he ran after them, and the only way for that was to run through the alleys.
Toru made a quick right, turning into the closest alleyway and began running down it.
"Toru, what the fuck are you doing?!"
"Just trust me!"
He made a few more turns and once he knew they must've lost him, he stopped so the two of them could catch their breaths. Kanako put a hand over her mouth and rushed over to a nearby trash can before vomiting into it. Everything tonight must've been too much for her to handle. Toru was surprised he's still able to stand on his two feet at this point. He came up from behind her and began patting her back as she coughed.
"Thank you hun…" She said as she wiped her mouth.
"Anything for you."
She turned around and gave him a big hug and put her head in his chest as she sobbed. So much has happened in the last thirty minutes than she had ever experienced in her entire life. Toru will never have her feeling like this ever again. Even if he has to die to make that happen.
"Let me call another driver and we can hide out here until-"
He was cut off by Kanako's scream and before he could even turn around, he felt someone grab him by the neck and roughly pin him against the brick wall.
"Let him go!" Kanako lashed out at the killer, but he was easily able to push her away and fall onto the asphalt.
"Don't you fucking touch her!" Toru growled at the killer, who responded by tightening his grip around his neck.
"I am tired of playing this stupid cat and mouse game, Toru. You fucked up big time and got a whole bunch of innocent people killed because you just had to be the fucking hero, didn't you?!"
"I didn't…kill anybody!" Toru choked out, but even though he knew he was right. He also felt guilty that people did die because the killer was after him.
"I hope that pussy was fucking worth it because I'm finishing this!" He pulled out his knife from underneath his cloak. "I was going to have fun touturing you for a bit, but I'm getting really fucking sick of you!"
The killer raised his knife and Toru closed his eyes, not wanting to see the knife when it plunged into him.
"Wait! Please Wait!" Kanako pleaded, but it fell on deaf ears.
The killer went to stab Toru, however, as the blade was just about to pierce Toru's skin, the killer suddenly stopped as Kanako yelled out,
"I'm pregnant!" Kanako sobbed. "I'm pregnant please don't kill him!"
Toru's eyes opened wide as he stared at his fiancé in awe. "Wait…Kanako…is this true?"
"Bull shit!" The killer seethed. "You're just saying this to try and persuade me to not kill your precious fiancé, and I'm sorry to break it to you, sweetie. It's not going to fucking happen."
The killer was about to raise his knife again, but Kanako got him to stop again.
"I have a sonogram photo! With yesterday's date and my name on it!" She pulled it out of her purse to show the killer in the dim light. "Look!"
The killer looked at Kanako, to Toru, then back to her before grumbling and snatching the photo from her. It took him a few seconds to read everything with such bad lighting, but he knew the photo was real. Kanako was pregnant…with Toru's baby. If they had been in a different situation, Toru would be overjoyed and crying and giving her a big hug. However, even where they were now, he was still ecstatic.
"I was planning on telling you once we settled in the cottage. I didn't want more on your plate after last night." She cried.
"Kanako…"
He gasped as he felt the killer's grip tighten around his neck and began yelling out. "Fuck! Fuck! FUCK!"
He then threw Toru harshly down on the ground in front of Kanako, who quickly rushed over to him to make sure he was alright. He coughed as he tried to regain his breath and rubbed his neck where the killer had a vise-like grip on him. The killer loomed over them, and Kanako protectively held onto Toru. However, instead of attacking them, he flicked the sonogram photo back at her.
"Just fucking leave." The two of them just stared at him in complete shock and he motioned them aggressively to go. "Are you guys really that fucking stupid?! Leave before I change my mind and rip your fucking insides out! NOW GO!"
The two of them quickly scrambled up to their feet, but not before Kanako put the sonogram photo back in her purse. However, as they turn to run down the alleyway. The killer grabbed onto Kanako's purse, stopping her.
"If I find out that this was all a lie. I will fly out to England myself and kill you…and only you. You got that?"
She looked at him with horrified eyes and gulped before giving him a nod. He then let her go and just watched as the couple ran away together. To start a new life in England.
