Another 2 Months Later…
"Hey, have you seen the bows? I need a couple for these last couple gifts I just wrapped." Mia asked.
"I put them back in the paper bag in the closet on the top shelf." Aerin replied.

"We'll put these all under the tree over there." Tess gestured to the large, decorated fir tree in the back left corner of the living room.

"And they are staying the whole day this year because they already went and visited my brother and his family over in Harrisburg P.A. a few days ago and celebrated Christmas with them then." Tess added.
"That's nice, and probably an easier arrangement for them to do so, they don't have to have a short stay here, then leave early and head all the way out there in the same day to visit." Mia stated.
"Yeah, I think they are still annoyed at Max for moving all the way out there. They much preferred he had stayed here. But most of his wife's family is out that way, so, they wanted to stay more local." Her sister-in-law informed her.
"Is where he lives really that far from here?" Aerin asked.
"From here in Cape May, it's a good three hours and fifteen minutes. But from where my parents live in Bergen County, it's a little closer, around two hours and fifty-one minutes. Either way, it's a bit of drive for them. But then it's a two hour and thirty-five-minute drive from Bergen County to here in Cape May." Tess explained.
"Didn't they mention plans about moving down to Villa, New Jersey though? If so, that be good, because they would be a hell of a lot closer." John mentioned.
"They were thinking about it, yeah. They just don't know when." His wife says, with a shrug.
They all chatted a little longer before John asked Mia and Aerin if they wanted anything to drink.

Mia got a really nice picture frame from her brother and sister-in-law. It was a nice flat silver frame that had words engrained across the top of the frame that said, 'Baby's First Picture' and there were these cut little baby handprints and footprints going up the sides of the frame and across the bottom.
Aerin got a hat along with a pair of Isotoner gloves from them.
Then Mia got a couple of nice new maternity tops from Tess's parents, while they gifted Aerin with a fleece inline sweatshirt.
Aerin really liked the gift he got from Mia's dad. It was another one of Hemingway's books, The Sun Also Rises. Supposedly one of Hemingway's masterpieces.
Lastly, he and Mia exchanged gifts with each other. He could tell by the shape and size of her present, that it was a book.
"No, of course, I cannot tell that this is a book." He teased.
She rolled her eyes but smiled.
"Just open it." She says.
Aerin carefully unwrapped it and saw the title and picture on the front as well. It was a title he recognized and the author's name at the bottom was a dead giveaway.
He shifted his gaze to her with a smile.
"It's your latest book. The one you finished this past summer." He pointed out.
"Yeah, and as promised, that is the very first copy. The reason why it took a little longer is because a couple months ago, I sent in one small change to one of the beginning pages to my publisher. See for yourself, it's the second page in there." Mia told him.
Aerin went ahead and opened the book to the second page as she said. There was a little note inside, and he began to read it.

On the front there were some words, they said; 'Dancing is Life' in elegant cursive. Next to the words, was this decal pic of ballet shoes hiked up on the tippy toes.
Mia turned to him with a smile and gave him a small hug.
"Thank you, I love it. It's a very thoughtful gift. I would definitely love to wear it while teaching my ballet class. I know the girls will think it is cute and get a kick out of it." She said.
"Glad you like it. Especially, seeing at first, I was unsure on what to gift you with." He admitted, with a slightly embarrassed smile.
"Hey guys, found two more presents here under the tree. One from Mia to Aerin and the other from Aerin to Mia." John said as he came walking over to them with the two small gifts.
Remembering what the second gift was, she handed the tiny gift bag over to Aerin with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Thankfully, he didn't seem to notice the amused look in her eyes, and small smirk as she handed it to him.
"Thank you." He says.
Whatever it was, it was very light.
He stuck his fingers in the small gift bag and fished around for it beneath the tissue paper, until he felt what appeared to be a piece of fabric. Then he slowly pulled it out.
His brows furrowed in slight confusion at first as to what it was.
Then he grabbed the other end of the light blue, lacey strip in his other hand and held both sides up in front of him.
Aerin's eyes slowly widened, and his smile faltered when he realized what it was. Apparently, all the other adults in the room knew what it was too and were trying not to laugh.

His gaze shifted to Mia, who was sitting next to him on the couch, trying not to laugh.

He then heard someone trying to stifle a laugh, and saw it was John.

That's when the confusion and awkwardness at receiving such a strange gift dissipated and he was hit with realization.

She can already tell by the shape and size that it was a small jewelry gift box. The kind you buy jewelry from a jewelry store.
Mia unwrapped it and as confirmed, it was a small jewelry gift box. It was soft and black in color. Then she lifted the lid, and she gazed in awe at the beautiful ring inside.
It was a silver band that was shaped like a couple of vines or flower stems that twisted together forming the band and, in the center, was a small, beautiful diamond.
She caught movement out of the corner of her eye and saw Aerin had got up and then kneeled in front of her.
"You know how much you mean to me. I don't know what I did to have someone as special as you come into my life. But nonetheless, I am grateful. And I wish nothing more than to show you how grateful I am while spending the rest of my life by your side. But before I then I must ask…Will you marry me, Mia?" He asked her.
Her heart thudded in her chest, as her eyes began to mist over. Then a bright, teary smile slowly crept up onto her face.
"Yes." She said, as a tear escaped her eye and rolled down her cheek.
Aerin gave her a bright smile, before he stood up and leaned in to kiss her.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and happily kissed him back, while everyone around them applauded and cheered.
The kiss was filled with love and promise.
When they pulled back, he reached up and gently wiped the tears from her cheeks. As she met his gaze, a warm smile filled her face.
Then a small chuckle left her.
"I guess…you weren't kidding when you said your gift would top mine a thousand times over." She pointed out, with some laughter in her tone.
He smiled back, "No, I really wasn't."
This was certainly one Christmas that will be a memorable one for them, that was for sure.
They eventually went on to enjoy the rest of the day as they sat down to a nice Christmas dinner of ham and stuffed shells with various side dishes.
Mia now currently donned her lovely new engagement ring, as she sat next to her boyfriend, now fiancé. The whole time, the couple were all smiles, as they sat down to dinner and dessert, while chatting with the rest of the family and having a great time.
During one conversation, she had eventually learned that her brother John was actually in on it. Having admitted to helping Aerin pick out the ring. Tess also was aware of the proposal too, because her husband clued her in on it.
Though neither she nor her husband knew exactly when Aerin was going to ask Mia. That was one detail he refused to share with them.
Despite it being a holiday, they thought he timed it right. Seeing as everyone was here to witness it. Something that their parents really appreciated being around for.
Once the day ended and the newly engaged couple arrived back home, they were already looking forward to this next chapter in their lives. One that not only included the impending birth of their baby, but marriage as well.
