Chapter 9: The Manicures and Makeovers Sleepover

One cold and wet second Saturday of February 2025, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri along with some of my other best friends Alex Russo, Justin Evans, Max Greenwald, Carly Shay, and Spencer Puckett, as well as Carly's stepdad, Freddie Benson, at Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties client Abigail Carson's apartment in Point Breeze for her Manicures and Makeovers Sleepover. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. While jamming out to Kate Bush and Lizzo, we composed a Childhood Chat in which Ashley Cassoin discussed going to bed early in kindergarten in Bloomfield, Isabella Black discussed laying on her fuzzy pillow in kindergarten in Highland Park, Nicole Ellis discussed sporting her new socks in 7th grade in Lawrenceville, Victoria Spurnick discussed making a craft in 8th grade in Morningside, Hannah Mifflin discussed drinking fruit punch in 4th grade in Point Breeze, Sarah Ching discussed getting manicures for her 15th birthday in Regent Square, Grace Luster discussed sporting her new nightgown at 12 years old in Squirrel Hill, and Madison Dayley discussed telling a silly story at 15 years old in Stanton Heights. Then, while jamming out to NSYNC and 98 Degrees, we composed another Childhood Chat in which Brooke Leesaw discussed doing different activities in the spring and summer of 2011 at 13 years old in the city of Pittsburgh, Jessica Linden discussed doing different activities in the spring and summer of 2012 at 11 years old in the southern suburbs, Sophia Cleng discussed doing different activities in the spring and summer of 2015 at 8 years old in the northern suburbs, Rachel Luster discussed doing different activities in the spring and summer of 2019 at 9 years old in the eastern suburbs, and Abigail Mifflin discussed doing different activities in the spring and summer of 2020 at 19 years old in the western suburbs. The room was decorated with lots of mirrors, silver and gold streamers, and a red carpet. We started off with outdoor games like Hairy Races and a Beauty Salon Relay and indoor games like an evening gown competition, Wigworks, and Before the Makeover. Activities included the White Glove Treatment, Polish Pointers, Bright Barrettes, and Makeover Moments. Close to bedtime, we played a game called Pass the Microphone. For food, we had rich tea to drink, all different kind of party finger sandwiches, and lady fingers for dessert along with bad hair day open-faced ham biscuits for breakfast. "Since Abigail is turning sweet 16 on Tuesday, this is kind of considered to be her birthday party and I am glad that it is not a crazy party like Molly's was as a teenager," I pointed out. "Why did you girls even bother going if it was not for middle schoolers?" James asked. "We were just curious to see what high school birthday parties would be like since we would eventually be in high school," Sarah stated. "You know what they say. Practice makes perfect!" "The wigs and candy remind me of Halloween," Henri stated. "I liked when we handed out candies to younger kids back in high school," James stated. "I may not like these girly slumber parties as much, but tonight's one was really good!" "This is a great sleepover," Carly happily stated. "It reminds me of the time when my mom remarried my stepdad." "I miss your mother already," Mr. Benson stated. "I am a huge fan of the lady finger cookies," Spencer stated. "How are you doing with college choices, Abigail?" Alex asked. "I am still a sophomore, Alex," Abigail stated. "Sorry, but I thought that you were a junior," Alex stated. "I was a junior when I took my SAT tests." "Those determined what college you went into," Max explained. "Yes, junior year was a fun year overall except for the SATs," Justin agreed. "I got into Pitt which I still visit and watch their events from time to time since I live pretty close!" Pretty soon, it was time for all of us to go to bed. "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
