Hello everybody, I'm back with another chapter. Sorry I didn't post sooner, school's been busy, but I'm here now so please enjoy Chapter six of PAW Patrol: The Wellermen.
Chapter 6
Over the course of the next week and a half we caught four more whales. Whaling season runs from February to November, so we finished out the season with a total of 5 whales.
"Whew, that was a busy week and a half. Now we've got 4 whales to tongue," I said.
"Aye, that's a lot of reales though," Jack said.
"Reales? You guys are paid in reales," I said.
"Most companies that buy whale oil pay in reales because of how rare it is," Jack said.
"Wow, where do you sell whale oil at?" I asked.
"There are only a few companies that buy whale oil now days, there's three in the U.S, 1 In England, 1 in Barcelona Spain and 1 in Shanghia China," Jack said.
"What do you do in the off season?"
"Oh, sell our oil, repair the ship, sometimes we ship cargo for other companies."
"That all sounds so fun, I'm excited for all the adventures to come," I said.
"Were too now cap?" Max asked.
"Set a course for Barcelona port Max," I said.
"Yes Captain."
"Jack, you take the helm. It's been a few months since I've seen my friends so I'm going to give them a call," I said.
"Aye Captain," Responded Jack.
I walked down to the captain's quarters. I then found the pup pad that Ryder gave me and called Ryder on face time.
"Hello?" Ryder said answering his pup pad.
"Hey Ryder dude," I said with a smile.
"Zuma Dude, it's so good to see you again. Oh what one second, hey pups come up and say hi to Zuma," Ryder said.
At the mention of my name the pups rushed to the elevator. And as usual Marshal crashed into everybody.
"Zuma… Hey dude… it's been a while…. Good to see you," said the pups all at once.
"Hey pups, it's so good to see you guys again," I said.
"How's life at sea?" Chase asked.
"It's great, the salty air in my lungs and the cool wind in my fur is so nice."
"Was it everything you ever hoped it would be?" Marshal asked.
"Oh yeah, in fact its better then I imagined," I said.
"Where are you right now?" Rocky asked.
"Oh, somewhere of the coast of Norway, heading down to Barcelona Spain," I said.
"What will you do down there," Marshal asked.
"Barcelona is home to one of the very few companies that buy whale oil, so we'll sell our whale fat for a butt load of Spanish reales," I said.
"Wow, how many whales did you get," Rubble asked.
"5, we were able to finish out the whaling season with 5 whales," I said.
"That all sounds very fun Zuma; well we'd better let you get back to work. We've got our own training to do," Ryder said.
"Yeah, it was good to talk with you guys," I said.
"Yeah… it was good talking with you…. Call again soon….. Bye," Responded the pups all at once.
"Yeah bye you guys," I said as Ryder hung up.
Afterwards I walked back up to the helm of the ship. 2 and a half weeks later we arrived at Barcelona port. Once we docked we started to work on tonguing the whales.
"Aye, Jack, have you ever thought about hiring more crew?" I said.
"Aye, we don't have a lot of crew. It would be nice to have some extra paws on deck," Jack said.
"We'll keep that in mind. Keep an eye out for any pup we could hire," I said to the crew.
We continued to work with the whales. One day we were eating lunch at a canine pub in downtown Barcelona when Jack spotted something.
"Hey, Captain look those two young pups are looking for a job," Jack said.
I looked to where Jack was pointing. And sure enough there were two young Spanish Water dog pups. They had a small sign with something written in Spanish on it.
"What exactly does the sign say Jack," I asked, since Jack could speak Spanish.
"Uh, it says, from a poor family, willing to do anything for work," Jack said.
"You thinking what I'm thinking Jack," I said with a smile.
Jack and I walked out of the pub and up to the two young dogs.
"Ustedes dos jóvenes en busca de trabajo" (You two youngsters looking for a job,) Jack said in Spanish.
"Sí señor, por favor, si tiene un trabajo, haremos cualquier cosa por trabajo. Llevamos meses buscando trabajo". (Yes sir, please if you have a job, we will do anything for work. We've been searching for a job for months now,) Responded the oldest pup.
"Veo que realmente necesitáis un trabajo, ¿cómo os llamáis?" (I can see you're really need a job, what are your names,)Jack asked.
"Uh, mi nombre es Diego, y este es mi hermano menor Antonio,"(Uh, my name is Diego, and this is my younger brother Antonio,) Diego said.
"Bueno, es un placer conocerlos a ustedes dos. Mi nombre es Jack Retriever, y este es mi amigo el Capitán Zuma. Zuma no habla español, así que tengo que traducir. Zuma es el capitán del USS Wellermen, uno de los últimos veleros de madera del planeta, y nos vendrían bien algunas patas extra en cubierta" (well it is nice to meet you two. My name is Jack Retriever, and this is my friend Captain Zuma. Zuma doesn't speak Spanish so I have to translate. Zuma is the Captain of the USS Wellermen, one of the last wooden whaling ship on the planet and we could use a few extra paws on deck,) Jack said.
"Entonces, ¿cuánto estamos hablando en lo que respecta a la paga?"(So how much we talking as far as pay goes,) Diego asked.
"Así que el pago se basa en el rango en nuestro barco. Así que para ustedes dos que recién comienzan serían unos 50 reales al mes para cada uno de ustedes". (So Pay is based on rank on our ship. So for you two just starting out it would be about 50 reales per month for each of you,) Jack said.
The pup's eyes widened.
"Reales, como en los reales españoles que se usaban entre los siglos XVI y XIX, no sabía que todavía los usaban" (Reales, as in Spanish reales used between the 16th and 19th century, I didn't know they still used those,) Antonio said.
"Somos uno de los últimos barcos balleneros a los que se les paga en reales" (We're one of the last whaling ships that get paid in reales,) Jack said.
"Nos encantaría el trabajo, Jack, señor; solo tenemos que pasar por nuestros padres" (We'd love the job, Jack sir; we just need to get through our parents,) Diego said.
"Bueno, te diré una cosa; estaremos aquí en el puerto de Barcelona durante el próximo mes más o menos. Así que te vas a casa y aclaras las cosas con tus padres y te pones en contacto con nosotros cuando recibas una respuesta". (Well tell you what; we'll be here in Barcelona port for the next month or so. So you go home and clear things up with you parents and contact us when you get an answer,) Jack said.
The pups went home exited as a ferret. A few days later we were down on the ship working on our whales when we saw the pups walking down the board walk. Jack and I walked down to meet them.
"Aceptaremos el trabajo, Jack Sir," (We'll take the Job, Jack Sir,) Diego said.
"Muy bien, bienvenidos a la tripulación ustedes dos," (Alright, welcome to the crew you two,) Jack said.
Suddenly two older dogs came running down the boardwalk shouting something in Spanish. Diego and his brother started to argue with the two dogs in Spanish.
"Absolutamente no, no permitiré que mis bebés trabajen en un barco sucio y peligroso" (Absolutely not, I will not have my babies working on a dirty, dangerous ship,) argued one of the older dogs.
"Ugh mamá, ya no somos cachorros" (ugh Mom we're not puppies anymore,) Diego said.
"Sí, ahora tenemos nuestras propias vidas; puedes dejar de preocuparte por nosotros" (Yeah we have our own lives now; you can stop worrying about us,) Antonio said.
"No, ustedes dos encontrarán un trabajo más cerca de casa que sea menos peligroso" (No you two will find a job closer to home that is less dangerous,) Diego's mom said.
"Mamá, hemos estado buscando trabajo durante meses y necesitas el dinero que ganaremos. Mire mamá nos van a pagar 50 reales al mes cada uno, 50 reales mamá". (Mom we've been searching for a job for months now, and you need the money we'll make. Look mom their going to pay us 50 reales a month each, 50 reales mom,) Diego said.
"No me importa cuánto dinero te paguen, si no trabajas en un velero, cariño, hablarás un poco desde entonces en el de tu hijo". (I don't care how much money they'll pay you, your' not working on a sailing ship, honey will you talk some since into your son's.)
"Desearía poder comer pan de miel, pero tienen razón, ahora tienen sus propias vidas" (I wish I could honey bun, but they're right, they have their own lives now,) Diego's dad said.
The pup's mom frowned and began to cry a little bit.
"No se preocupe señora, sus hijos esta (Don't worry Ma'me, your boys will be well cared for," Jack reassured.)
After a little bit of crying and a little bit of comforting and reassuring, the pup's mom finally let them go. Jack and I gave the pups a tour of the ship and introduced them to the crew. After words I put them to work at the tonguing station.
We would stay in Barcelona for the next few months. We worked on our whales and repairing the ship. But we were completely unaware of the innocent blood that was being spilt on the open ocean.
Out on the high seas of the Atlantic Ocean sailed a U. S container ship. The ship was carrying sugar, tea; Rum est. Sarah was a young Australian shepherd who worked on the ship. Sarah was making her rounds checking the cargo and making sure they were all locked down, when she spotted a large wooden galleon sailing towards them.
But what was odd to Sarah was that the Gally wasn't flying a flag. She immediately rushed up to tell the captain of the container ship.
"Captain, sailing vessel of port bow," Sarah said.
"What color?" Asked the captain.
"She isn't flying any sir," Sarah said.
The captain gave her a puzzled look. He looked through a pair of binoculars at the ship. And standing on the bow of the galleon was that same Doberman pincher from that bar in Nassau.
"Captain, American container ship dead ahead," shouted a rough looking pit bull.
"Aye, all paws to cannons, the golden age of piracy starts now," Shouted the Doberman.
All the pirate pups howled with excitement. They quickly rushed to the bronze cannons that lined
"Bones hoist the colors, show these Americans who we are," the Doberman said.
"Aye, aye captain Black Fur," Bones said with an evil smile.
The captain of the container ship watched as a flag with a black paw print with crossbones underneath it was raised on the enemy ship.
"OH ships wheel, PIRATES ALL HANDS ON DECK," Shouted the Captain.
The container ship tried to outrun the pirates, but Black Fur's ship, named the Black Paw, was the fastest ship in the sea. Black Fur's crew pulled up alongside the container ship.
"FIRE, FIRE ALL," shouted Black Fur.
The boom of the bronze cannons rant out through the quite ocean air, breaking all silence and hope for survival. The first blast killed multiple crew members and tore through the side of the container ship. The same results came with the second and third blast. Black Fur's crew boarded the ship and rounded up all the crew members. Black Fur stepped towards his first pirate captives.
"Greetings citizens of America, we are sailors, much like yourselves but with completely different motives," Black Fur said.
"What do you want with us," Asked the trembling Captain.
"Well I want all your valuable cargo, so you have a choice here. One: load your cargo onto my ship and you'll live. Or two: we kill you and take the cargo anyway, your choice," Black Fur said.
Having no Choice the container ship crew moved all the most valuable cargo onto the Black Paw. Afterwards they were rounded up again.
"Thank you all for your cooperation, slit their throats," Black Fur said.
"WHAT, you said that you'd let us live," Screamed the captain.
"Um hello, pirate," Black Fur said rolling his eyes.
One by one the crew's throats were slit and their blood drained into the ocean. Sarah sat with her eyes closed and her head between her legs. She trembled uncontrollably as a big boxer mastiff approached her and put his saber up against her neck. She kept her eyes closed tight and waited for the blow.
"WAIT, not her," Black Fur said.
The mastiff hesitated but kept the blade near her neck. She kept her eyes closed and prayed that God would save her.
"Let her go," Black Fur said.
But the mastiff still hesitated to take the blade of her neck.
"That's an order DOG," Black Fur yelled.
The mastiff relesed her and she fell to the ground gasping for breath. She tucked her head back under her legs and kept her eyes closed. Black Fur walked up and gently lifted her head up.
"What's your name little pup," Black Fur said in a surprisingly sweet tone.
"Uh, S…Sarah, S….Sarah Rose Sh….Shepherd, sir," Sarah stuttered.
"Hm, that's a sweet name. Don't worry lass, I always leave one alive to tell the tale," Black Fur said.
"You'll be killed for this pirate, the navy will find you," Sarah said.
"They'll have to catch me first. Go ahead, tell them, tell the world that the seas belong to me, Captain Black Fur," Black Fur said with a blood curdling laugh.
Black fur left Sarah alone on the sinking ship. The crew that Black Fur killed were just a few of the many throats that would be slit by Black Fur's crew. And I was unaware that he was coming for me. Boy was I in for an adventure.
Oh, things are heating up with Captain Black Fur now starting his reign of terror. What will happen, why does Black Fur want to kill Zuma, come back next time and find out more on PAW Patrol: The Wellemen.
