Sweet and Dark Heart: Chapter 10

John thought for about five seconds, though to Natsuki who was with a lot of anticipation, it may as well have been five hours. Considering Sayori only really needed to design one flyer and then just makes copies of the rest, her task was easiest. Yuri, doing about 20 banners wouldn't take long given Yuri's intellectual mind, plus given how quiet she is, John figured she wouldn't want any company anyways and would prefer to work alone, since she tends to be by herself reading before the Literature Club meeting starts.

"I'll work with Natsuki; I mean I like to bake sometimes so it'll be cool to help out!" John said with his usual quiet voice.

Meanwhile, Natsuki felt inwardly like she was about to explode from happiness and she had to try hard to avoid freaking out like she really, really wanted to do.

'Yes…yes…a whole Saturday and Sunday with John! YES! Finally, me and him alone…but…I don't want to act too intense and chase him off or scare him…gotta act nonchalant…' Natsuki thought to herself as she reeled in her composure, opting to stay aloof even though she wanted to hug John and thank him.

'Yes…yes…spending time with John! YES! Finally, me and him alone…but…I don't want to act too intense and chase him off or scare him…gotta act nonchalant…' Natsuki thought to herself as she reeled in her composure, opting to stay aloof even though she wanted to hug John and thank him.

"Yeah, yeah; sounds good but don't get in my way too much, alright?" Natsuki asked as she looked down at him, making John smile.
"I'll do my best…" John said as Monika grinned.

"Then it's settled! Since the school club festival is Friday, you two might meet up on Thursday after the club meeting finishes since that'll mean the cupcakes will be nice and fresh!" Monika said as Natsuki huffed.

"Well duh! It's not like we'll bake the cupcakes on Saturday or Sunday since it'll be five to six days old! I'm the best baker ever, I don't do things like that! Besides, Sunday will be the day we get the ingredients, right John?" Natsuki asked.

"Sure, we can do that!" John said.

"Good, since you're in our little group chat…I'll message you privately to meet me at a couple of places to get the best ingredients starting at Sunday at 9 A.M. sharp, okay?" Natsuki asked as John nodded.

"Yeah, that's okay but, a few places? Why not just the supermarket and then that's that?" John asked as Natsuki scoffed while Monika informed Yuri that she'll be helping the introverted woman out while Sayori doodled in her notebook.

"Hah, the supermarket is good for most things with baking, sure…but when it comes to me getting eggs and butter, I prefer places that're local, it's just better quality, at least to me it is!" Natsuki said as Monika chuckled.

"Yeah, that's Natsuki for you, she certainly doesn't skimp on quality with her baking!" Monika said as Natsuki pouted.

After some more chatting and bantering, the Literature Club meeting was finished. Since it was Friday afternoon and the first week that John has been in the Literature Club, Sayori was extra talkative as John figured.

"Well John, you survived your first week in the Literature Club! How'd you like it? Are you ready to get all lovey-dovey with Natsuki?" Sayori asked as John had a blush as he groaned.

"Come on Sayori, it's not like that…! We'll just be making cupcakes…" John said as Sayori leaned close to him and giggled.

"Cupcakes…with a side of kissing!" Sayori teased as John's blush deepened.

"S-shut up Sayori!" John said as Sayori giggled happily.

After some more bantering and teasing, the two headed to their respective houses and said goodbye, with Sayori entering her house while John headed into his place. Once he kicked off his shoes and headed upstairs with a snack, John began to wonder how Sunday would go with Natsuki and what to expect.

'It'll be interesting to be with Natsuki to see what she'll be like outside of school. Will she still be intense or will she be more relaxed?' John thought to himself as he pulled the covers over him, heading to sleep soon afterwards.

- Meanwhile at Natsuki's house –

Natsuki was in her bedroom, her father was asleep downstairs in his room, after they had a dinner of silence…or rather, a dinner where Natsuki intimidated her abusive father to be quiet the entire time.

'Tch, what a useless man he is…such a coward. Always using intimidation against me and the ONE time I stand up for myself, he acts like a sad, sad wuss. Oh well, enough about him. I need to focus on what REALLY matters…John. We'll be getting ingredients from a few places on Sunday…I'm really thrilled about it since it'll be just him and I…none of the other distractions like that upbeat ditz Sayori, that know-it-all Monika or that anxious Yuri. Just John and me.' Natsuki thoughts to herself as she pulled the covers up and soon headed to sleep.

- Sunday at 9 A.M.-

Saturday went by quickly for John, and after Natsuki texted John the first place they'd be heading to, John saw Natsuki at the local supermarket. She was wearing something totally different from her school uniform – a white T-shirt that goes down to her waist complimented by a pink skirt that went to her mid-thigh. Natsuki looks uninterested at first but when she scanned the crowd that she towered head and shoulders and saw John, she looks elated before masking it with her usual guarded expression, walking over and looking down at John, giving him a small smile.
