Hayate was not sure what he expected Ren to do when they took on their first D rank mission, a simple river cleaning, but creating an six Shadow clones to strip the water clean was not one of them. He also did not expect the chakra released to be perfectly tight, no wasted chakra at all. Nor did he expect the boy's chakra to feel stronger already. Why that was, he had no clue... The mission was done in half an hour, Ren got the full pay of three genin, and they hurried to their training ground with the clones following behind.

"Clones, " Ren started. "I want three of you working on the Leaf sticking exercise, move onto pebbles if you master it. Three will work on the Leaf Splitting exercise."

"Leaf Splitting?"

"I am a wind nature user, I tested myself last night and had my clones reading all night. I learned a ton." The he made twelve more clones before Hayate could say a word. "I want three working on the Advanced Leaf Taijutsu, three on the Leaf Kenjutsu, the last six on The Dancing Moon Kenjutsu that Hayate sensei taught me." He turned to Hayate. "It won't help my body, but it will give me better muscle memory. Right?"

Smirking, he nodded at the eager boy. "We are so going to dominate the Chunin exams." He pulled out his blade. "Let's spar, kid, and I'll see what you learned yesterday. Then I want your clones working on the genjutsu breaking technique, deal?"

"Deal!"

"Then I want you to learn the Body Flicker, really well. It is key to many of my kenjutsu moves."

One Month Later

Ren easily blocked his mentor's blade, pushing back with a blast of chakra before using his small size to duck under the man's blade and carve through his chest. POOF! The man proved to be a shadow clone. Whipping around, he barely managed to slash away the dozens of kunai rushing at his body. Hayate appeared a few feet from him, a challenge on his face.

Rising up, Ren Channeled his chakra into his body, sheathing his blade. "MOON STEP SLICE!" And he moved, with extreme speeds, slicing not through Hayate but the log he left in his place a moment later. A wave of force behind the blade carved through the ground as well, six inches long and two inches deep. Gaterhing more chakra, he ducked under a strike. "GALE PALM!"

The force of wind slammed into his sensei, sending him flying back. The man kneeled, holding his chest. "You got me good, kid... now... I think we rest, for a bit." he smiled, coughing harshly for a long moment. "You are easily chunin level now, and with the Shadow Clones you could reach Special Jonin in a few months. Be proud, kid."

Ren beamed. "I am trying so hard, I am no genius... but I hope to be great, you know?"

"And you will be..." He froze, they both did as a hawk cawed above them. "We have to go to the Hokage's office, are you ready kid?"

"Born ready." Though, in truth, he was nervous, entirely unaware that this was the day when his legend started in the public eye.

Soon, very soon, they were at the Hokage's office, kneeling. "Ren, you have shown remarkable progress over the last month. In that month, you've shown you can handle your own and you can handle orders. To that end, I believe you can join in your first C rank mission. Team Seven is currently on a C rank turned A ranked mission to Wave. We have recently discovered, through the capture and interrogation of Two Missing ninja that there is a powerful jonin after that team. I will be sending your team as backup to Wave. Yoiu leave immediately. Please, do your best."

Ren bowed, a little frustrsated to be saving Naruto's ass but pleased it was such a powerful mission. "I am honored, Lord Hokage. We will do our duty."

"Good... now go, hurry."

And off they went, to save Naruto and his team from what he would find out was their own stupidity.
