Hello and welcome to this fight between two rock hard monsters!
Steelix the Iron Snake pokemon.
Gravios the Armor Wyvern.
Steelix
When it comes to size, most pokemon aren't that big, with most being the size of a person and nothing really too huge. But some pokemon are huge just like the evolution of Onix, Steelix the giant iron snake pokemon. Steelixs are one of the biggest pokemon, being over 30 feet in height. They are steel and ground type, which are types known for great defense. Steelixs live deep underground at a depth of six-tenth of a mile, which is about 3,168 feet deep underground. It has also been stated that if an Onix reaches the age of 100 years, then they become a Steelix on their own.
Attack Potency
Steelix are huge, and they use their size to their advantage, they can swing their huge body around like using their tail to use the move Iron Tail. They can also crunch down on their enemies with, well, Crunch, but also with moves like Fire Fang, Ice Fang, and Thunder Fang. Binding enemies with Bind, as well with a lot of powerful moves like Rock Slide to summon boulders to crush its enemies, Sand Tomb to trap them, Stone Edge to create a line of powerful stones to attack them, Double-Edge to charge at their opponents but can damage itself, Dig to dig underground and even Dragon Breath which can paralyze them.
It has a lot of moves for attack, but also moves to help increase its power, like Curse which increases its attack and defense at the cost of speed. Or Screech to lower the target's defense.
Feats
— Steelix has a lot of options for attacking.
— Steelix can chew their way through boulders with its sturdy jaw.
Durability
But Steelixs aren't known for their wide range of attack or raw power, no. They are really known for is their ridiculous levels of defense. They have some of the highest defense pokemon not including legendaries. Their bodies are covered in steel like armor, so strong that not even diamond can scratch. They can take hits from fully evolved pokemon without a scratch. They can take hits from pokemon like Charizard and Aggron. They really are a wall of defense and taking down a Steelix isn't going to be easy.
Feats
—Is one of the most defensive pokemon outside of legendaries.
—It's body is harder than a diamond.
Speed
While Steelix has great attack and even better defense it's lacking in the speed department. Having a massive body like this makes it an easy target to hit and since Steelix isn't very fast, it's going to get hit a lot, thankfully it is still fast when it comes to digging underground. And even has moves like Rock Polish and Autotomize to increase its speed greatly. It also has a move called Magnet Rise that gives Steelix the ability to levitate, while this doesn't make it faster, it does give it the ability to fly for a short time.
Feats
—Is still fast when it comes to digging underground.
—It has moves to increase its speed.
Weakness
Outside of having horrible speed, its weaknesses are fire, water, fighting and ground type attacks. Plus it is also lacking any range attacks. With Dragon Breath being really its only ranged attack. It also has a weak special attack meaning that its Dragon Breath isn't a powerful range attack either.
—Is weak to fire, water, fighting and ground attacks.
—Has limited range attacks with a horrible special attack.
Gravios
Most monsters in the monster hunter world are protected by layers of hard scales. Don't have that? Well, some still found ways to protect themselves. Just like the armor wyvern Gravios. The Gravios is a big flying wyvern that is strangely covered in rock armor. They mainly live in volcanic areas where they eat rocks and ores.
Attack Potency
Gravios has a lot of attacks it can use, outside of throwing around its massive and hard body around it uses the fire element. It can fire globs of melt rock or a concentrated laser of fire, which is capable of melting rock and disintegrating smaller monsters. They can also expel a fiery gas that can explode to create fiery explosions around itself. And if fire isn't a good enough weapon, it can expel a gas of sleep, leaving their targets open to attacks.
Even without all of these weapons, they can beat most monsters alone with just their bulk. Having a massive body and being covered in rock like armor, gives them a lot of strength to use to kill their prey.
Feats
—Its size and rocky shell gives it great bulk.
—It uses the fire element to fire melton rock, create explosions of fire or fire lasers of fire.
—It has sleep gas to put others to sleep.
Durability
Gravios as you can tell just by looking at it has great durability, outside of elder dragons its rocky shell is one of the toughest shells around, easily being tougher than other flying monsters with great armor like the Rathalos and other flying wyverns. Its rocky shell makes sharp weapons like swords bounce off it. There is a reason why its called the Armor Wyvern.
Feats
—It is one of the toughest shells outside of elder dragons.
—Its armor is so strong that it was given the name the Armor Wyvern.
Speed
Gravios may have good attacks and great armor, but just like Steelix it's slow too. It definitely isn't a fast monster and its massive bulk and rocky armor makes it almost unable to fly. It can fly but not for very long or very high.
Feats
—While slow and heavy, it is still capable of flying.
Weakness
Gravios, while having great defense it is weak to water and slow, so hitting it is an easy thing to do. And while it can fly, it can't fly very high or very long.
—Is weak to water.
—Is very slow.
—Can't fly for long or very high.
Ok let's see which rock will break first, let's start this death battle!
In a wide volcanic land where seas of lava could be seen and volcanoes nearby, giant pillars of rocks could be seen right in the middle of the land, as if it didn't belong there. Suddenly the ground shook, as a Steelix came up from the ground near the pillars of rock.
Steelix looked around its surroundings and didn't find anything of interest. Just as Steelix was about to turn around, the giant pillars of rock suddenly started to rise. Out came Gravios who was sleeping, but now awake thanks to Steelix coming from the ground.
Gravios saw Steelix and let out a roar, while Steelix took that as a challenge and roared back.
Fight!
Gravios ran at Steelix as fast as it can, Steelix however was able to dodge the charge by quickly slithering to the side. Now that Gravios was vulnerable, Steelix hit Gravios's side with an Iron Tail. Despite Gravios being bigger, the attack was powerful enough to push Gravios back. Gravios almost lost its footing but stood strong. Roaring, Gravios fired its fire like a laser.
Steelix was very surprised by this and couldn't dodge it. The beam of fire hit Steelix's face and Steelix cried in pain and quickly moved out of the way of the fire beam. Steelix's face had a burn mark on it, but it was still far from dead.
Now knowing that his opponent could use fire, Steelix decided to be a bit more careful. Steelix slammed its tail on the ground and a row of glowing rocks appeared heading towards Gravios. Now it was Gravios's turn to be surprised, and it wasn't able to move out of the way of Steelix's Stone Edge.
The Stone Edge hit Gravios's chest causing it to move back in pain. The two of them were now circling each other, waiting for the right moment to strike. Steelix decided to go first and fired a Dragon Breath at Gravios. Gravios responded with its fire lasers. The two beams clash against each other before Gravios's beam won the battle, hitting Steelix in the face again. Steelix quickly slither to the side to get away from the beam and used Rock Throw. The glowing chunk of rock hit Gravios at the side of its face, stopping its beam and momentarily dazed it.
Seeing the Steelix's opponent was dazed, Steelix used Rock Polish to increase its speed greatly. Gravios was now no longer dazed and fired a chunk of molten rock at Steelix. But Steelix was able to dodge and with its new speed it was able to appear behind Gravios.
Gravios was very shocked at Steelix's new speed but before it could even react, an Iron Tail hit its back, Gravios was able to handle the attack, and respond by swiping its own tail. The tail hit Steelix knocking it away from Gravios, but the tail attack barely did any real damage to Steelix's strong body.
Steelix slammed its tail on the ground again and just like before a row of Stone Edge came at Gravios. Rather than try to move out of the way, Gravios rushed ahead at the Stone Edges tanking the attack. Steelix was surprised by this and because of that Gravios was able to hit Steelix with its charge.
Gravios hit Steelix, headfirst and carried Steelix with it as it kept going, before crashing Steelix hard into a rocky cliff. While the attack hurt, it wasn't anything Steelix couldn't tank. Steelix's teeth glowed black, before it bit down on Gravios's head with its Crunch.
Gravios actually cried in pain, as it felt the powerful jaws of Steelix's Crunch and back away from the cliff. But Steelix still held on to its head with its Crunch. Gravios was now flailing around trying to get Steelix off of it. Gravios tried jumping up and down, tried rolling around on the ground, even tried slamming Steelix into big rocks. But all of it didn't nothing to Steelix, and Steelix only bit down harder on Gravios's head. Some parts of Gravios's rocky armored head were starting to break and lines of it cracking were forming.
Stopping its flailing, it fired a small shot of its fire beam on the middle of Steelix's body that was hanging over its face. Steelix flinched from the attack and quickly let go of Gravios, to avoid it from taking any more fire. Steelix's speed however had returned back to normal, so it wasn't fast enough to escape Gravios's bite.
Gravios bit into Steelix's body, while its teeth weren't strong enough to bite through Steelix's metal body. It was still strong enough to lift Steelix up and throw it high into the air. Steelix landed in a nearby pool of magma.
"STEELIX!" Steelix screamed in pain, as it quickly rose from the magma and quickly made its way back to land. Steelix's body was steaming and a part of it was burned. But it was fine overall. While fire was one of its weaknesses, it would take more than that to kill it.
Steelix heard the heavy footsteps of Gravios coming its way. Steelix was pissed now, rather than trying to dodge it, Steelix opened its mouth and screamed loudly. The Screech that came out of Steelix's mouth was so loud that Gravios stopped its charge and roared in pain as it felt like its ear drums were going to burst.
A blue aura covered Gravios and Gravios felt something strange happening to its body. When the Screech was over, it turned its head to face Steelix. Only to get an Iron Tail to the face.
"AAAAAAAAAAAA!" Gravios roared in pain, as a part of its face broke off. Thanks to the Screech Gravios's physical defense were reduced greatly and with its head already damaged, the Iron Tail was more than even to break a part of Gravios's head.
Gravios not only had a part of its head broken, but was also sent tumbling away, before stopping on its side. Getting up, Gravios glared at Steelix with murderous eyes, before roaring in anger.
Gravios was enraged.
Gravios started to fired small shots of its fire beam all over the place. Steelix was able to dodge most of them, but some of the shots hit it. Thankfully the small fire shots barely did anything. Steelix returned fire with its Dragon Breath. The Dragon Breath hit Gravios, but all it did was annoy it.
Gravios stopped firing and charged towards Steelix faster than it did before. Steelix used Stone Edge to try to stop the charge, but Gravios kept charging and tackled Steelix. Steelix fell to the ground from the much bigger monster. Before it had a chance to get up, Gravios rolled on top of Steelix, using its massive and heavy body to crush Steelix.
Steelix cried in pain, as it felt the immense weight on it. Steelix couldn't move with Gravios atop of it, so it bit at Gravios with a Crunch. The Crunch bit into a part of its side, but wasn't enough to break through Gravios's armor.
Steelix could feel the weight of the massive and heavily wyvern starting to slowly crush it, and it needed to do something fast, or it was done for. Letting go of its Crunch, Steelix started to use a different move, Curse. Steelix could feel itself getting slower, but also getting stronger physically, after using that it then used Screech again, lowering Gravios defenses. And to end this combo, it roared and suddenly a Sand Tomb formed around them.
The Sand Tomb started damaging Gravios bit by bit, made stronger but Steelix's Curse. Steelix then bit into Gravios side again with Crunch, this time the attack was able to break through Gravios's armor. Gravios screamed in pain as it felt Steelix ripping a chunk of its flesh off causing Gravios to get off of it.
The moment Gravios was off of Steelix, Steelix immediately got up and swung an Iron Tail at Gravios which was also made stronger by the Curse. The Iron Tail was enough to knock Gravios away. Before Gravios could retaliate, a Stone Edge hit it, knocking it on its side. While Gravios was down, rather than continue to attack, Steelix used Curse again, further increasing its strength again. Before leaping into the air, and going underground with Dig.
Gravios got up but found that Steelix was gone, Gravios looked around for Steelix, but it didn't notice the ground behind it was breaking. Steelix came out of the ground behind Gravios and bit its tail. Gravios cried in pain, not only from the bite, but also it felt something cold covering it. Turning its head it was surprised to see its tail and more parts of its body, being covered in a layer of ice. Before Gravios could do anything, Steelix lifted Gravios in the air. Thanks to the increased strength with Curse, Steelix was now strong enough to lift the massive and heavily wyvern.
Steelix lifted it over its head and slammed it down on the ground hard. Gravios tried to get up but its legs were covered in ice, making it unable to move them. Steelix then used Screech to weaken Gravios's armor and bit into its belly with Ice Fang. Gravios could feel its shell breaking as well as its body starting to be covered in ice.
Gravios in a panic did the only thing it could do. It started to release some kind of gas from its body and a second later an explosion of fire suddenly engulfed the two of them. Steelix was sent flying away from Gravios, before hitting a rocky wall, its body having more burn marks now.
Gravios was now getting back on its feet, as the fiery explosion destroyed the ice that was covering it. Gravios then fired its fire laser at Steelix, who used Stone Edge, to have the big glowing rocks block the laser. When the laser hit the Stone Edge, it caused an explosion and created a big dust cloud. Gravios couldn't see where Steelix was thanks to the dust cloud, but it did notice something glowing white, and it was coming straight towards it.
Before Gravios could fire its laser again, Steelix came rushing it with a Double-Edge. Steelix slammed into Gravios hard and Gravios was sent tumbling over. Steelix used Double-Edge again since its ability Rock Head would prevent recoil damage. The second Double-Edge knocked Gravios away further, and sent a Stone Edge at the downed Gravios.
When the attack connected Gravios screamed in pain, before getting up and doing something that surprised Steelix. Gravios opened its wing and took to the air. Steelix could only stare in disbelief as Gravios was now airborne, although it wasn't very high in the air and was visibly struggling to stay in the air. But it was flying nonetheless.
Gravios fired molten rocks while still in the air, which rain down on Steelix. Steelix tried to dodge them, but a few of them hit it causing it to flinch. When the rain of molten rock stopped, Steelix looked up into the air, only to see Gravios crashing down on it.
Once again Steelix was being crushed but Gravios again, before Steelix could try to do anything, Gravios body released a new gas, rather than the fire gas it released before that exploded, this was one that was putting Steelix to sleep.
While Steelix was asleep Gravios got off of Steelix so that it wouldn't wake Steelix up by trying to crush it. Moving to Steelix's face Gravios started to charge its fire laser to its full power. The fully charged fire laser hit Steelix's face and of course waking up Steelix.
"STEEELIIIXXX!"
Steelix roared in pain as it awakened to a beam of fire hitting its face, Steelix tried to move away, but Gravios kept the beam going, and even moved the beam down to Steelix's mid-section. Steelix was being pushed back by the fire beam before being pushed into a rocky cliff hard, which started to break the cliff and having giant rocks falling on top of it.
The rocks buried Steelix and Gravios roared in victory before moving toward the pile of rocks that Steelix was under.
Suddenly Steelix came flying out of the rock pile.
Yes flying, that's thanks to its Magnet Rise, which gave it the ability to levitate into the air. Steelix's face was now partially melted with one of its eyes being destroyed by the fire beam. Steelix fired its Dragon Breath, hitting the top of Gravios. Gravios just like before was able to tank the weak dragon type attack without any problem and returned fire with its laser. Steelix was able to fly out of the way and continued firing its Dragon Breath. While being bathed in the attack, Gravios tried to fire its beam again, only for it to suddenly be unable to move.
The effects of Dragon Breath had happened, which was paralyzing the opponent. Seeing that its plan had worked, Steelix let itself fall to the ground, once it landed, it used Screech, then Curse, before ending it with Rock Polish. When it was done buffing itself, it slither toward Gravios with an Iron Tail ready.
Gravios had just overcome its paralysis when Steelix came with a powered Iron Tail right under its damaged belly.
Crack.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"! Gravios cried out as its armor belly broke and exposed the soft pinkish skin underneath. Gravios was then lifted up by Steelix's tail and tossed over Steelix's head and landed on its sides.
Getting up Gravios started firing beams at random, as well as spitting out molten rocks everywhere, as Gravios was going mad with rage and pain, Steelix tried to avoid the beams and molten rocks. Steelix tried to fire a Dragon Breath, hoping that it would at least paralyze it again. But Gravios was firing so many small beams and chunks of molten rock that Steelix could barely get enough time to charge and aim without being hit. Deciding that Steelix wasn't going to be able to hit Gravios with Dragon Breath. Steelix took a second to stand still, which got it hit by a few small beams. Steelix ignored them and focused on using Rock Polish, increasing its speed again.
Steelix with its new speed was able to slither around the beams and molten rock avoiding them. Steelix made it way behind Gravios before leaping into the air and wrapping itself around Gravios's neck. Gravios stopped firing beams and molten rock and started failing around again, as Steelix binds itself around Gravios's neck trying to crush its neck, Steelix then once again bit down on Gravios's head with Crunch, causing Gravios to fail around even more.
Eventually Gravios stops failing and releases its fire gas causing a fiery explosion, which was enough to get Steelix off it. Steelix let go of Gravios and quickly used Rock Throw before Gravios could attack.
The Rock Throw hit Gravios's face and Gravios responded by swinging its tail, hitting away Steelix. Gravios charged at Steelix, but Steelix roared to the sky and suddenly giant boulders were raining down from the sky. Gravios stopped its charge as the boulders created by Rock Slide landed between them creating a wall of rock between them.
Gravios, not letting a wall of rock stop it, charged its fire laser and used it to cut the wall to pieces. As the wall fell apart. Steelix was gone. Before Gravios could start to look for Steelix, Steelix came out of the ground beneath it like a bullet. Steelix by chance had hit Gravios's soft exposed belly hard with its head and Gravios felt like its inside were going to cave in for the attack.
As Gravios fell on its side again, in a panic it released its fire gas hoping to keep Steelix away. The fire gas exploded and Steelix was hit, but this time it was able to get away from most of it. As Steelix got away it fired its Dragon Breath hoping to paralyze it again. Gravios however got up quickly and returned fire with its fire laser, pushing back the Dragon Breath and hit Steelix in the face again.
Steelix's face was starting to melt more at this point from all the fire it had taken from this fight. Quickly slither out of the way of another beam, Steelix used Rock Throw which was destroyed by another beam, but saved Steelix from being hit by it.
Steelix then used Stone Edge, sending a row of glowing rock at Gravios. Before Gravios could charge up its beam the Stone Edge hit it, right at its soft underbelly. The attack hurt so much that Gravios fell on its side in pain. Which gave Steelix a clear view of Gravios's soft innards. Steelix's remaining eye widened as it saw an exposed part of Gravios's tough armor.
Seeing this Steelix fired a Dragon Breath right at it, this time for once the Dragon Breath actually caused Gravios pain, as it fought through the pain and got up. Gravios fired more of its beams in desperation trying to keep Steelix away. Steelix used Rock Polish again, before using Magnet Rise to get into the air again.
Steelix flew out of the way of Gravios's beam and fired Dragon Breath repeatedly, Gravios didn't even try to avoid them as it seemed more concerned with covering its exposed belly by crouching down. This would prove to be a mistake as after all the Dragon Breath it took. It was paralyzed again.
Seeing that Gravios was paralyzed, Steelix let itself crush headfirst into the ground and started using Dig. Gravios watched as Steelix disappeared into the earth, unable to move or try to stop it. After a few more seconds Gravios was able to fight off the paralysis.
But it was too late.
A second later Steelix's Iron Tail came out of the ground right under Gravios. And stabbed into Gravios's soft underbelly.
Gravios was as still as a statue, before Steelix came out of the ground fully, with its tail still in Gravios's underbelly. With a powerful throw, Steelix threw Gravios off its tail, leaving Gravios to lay on its side.
Gravios still wasn't moving, looking at its face, its eyes were devoid of life, and it was still like an actual statue. Steelix's Iron Tail had pierce right through Gravios's soft skin and straight into its heart, killing it instantly. Steelix looked at its dead face one more time, with its one eye before roaring in the sky, letting everyone know it was the winner in this fight and that it was a force that shouldn't be messed with.
KO!
Well, that was that rocky battle. (Sorry for the bad pun.)
Anyways, why does Steelix win?
While it's true that Gravios can expose Steelix weakness to fire, that's the only advantage it had. As pokemon proves, type advantages aren't everything. When it came to all other things Steelix just outclass Gravios in almost every other category. While Gravios might have greater strength than Steelix, Steelix's wide move pool is more than enough to make up for it. Moves like Curse would help close the strength gap, moves like Iron Tail and Stone Edge were definitely to do some damage, especially with Curse making them stronger.
When it comes to speed this one's a no brainer. Gravios is very slow compared to other flying monsters, and is basically a slow tank, while the same could be said for Steelix. Steelix has been shown to keep up with other fast pokemon, like Charizard. And even if it was slower, its Rock Polish and Autotomize with give it the speed to dodge Gravios's attacks. Especially its fire ones.
And finally, durability. It may surprise you, but this one goes to Steelix as well. Steelix's durability is far above Gravios's durability. While Gravios rocky shell is definitely one of the strongest shells outside of elder dragons. Steelix's shell was just so much tougher, being able to fight against some very powerful pokemon. In fact, outside of Gravios's fire attacks, Gravios didn't really have a way to do any real lasting damage to Steelix. And like before even if Gravios had the tougher shell, Steelix could weaken it with Screech and make itself stronger with Curse.
And once there was an opening to Gravios's armor, Steelix would be able to finish it. And while its fire would keep Steelix on its toes, Steelix has taken fire type attacks before from powerful pokemon like Charizard, so it wasn't like Steelix was going to die from one fire attack.
The winner is Steelix.
Winner: Steelix
+ Is much stronger.
+ Is much tougher.
+ Is much faster.
+ It moves would make sure it was above Gravios in every category.
+ It moves could also weaken Gravios.
— Was weak to fire.
— Couldn't expose Gravios weakness to water.
Loser: Gravios
+ Could expose Steelix's weakness to fire.
+ Its sleeping gas could put Steelix to sleep.
— Is much weaker
— Is much less durable.
— Is much slower.
— Had no way to deal with Steelix weakening it.
And that's the battle, hope you guys liked it!
